Man I wish you guys had gotten Chris Stuckmann to do a scene where you guys call him and ask, "Hey Chris! You're a fan of Dragon Ball right? Wanna review the live action-" and then he ends the call and looks in the distance sorrowfully.
It might just be me, but because of their affiliation with Team Four Star, I'd kinda like to see Doug or Rob do voice acting with Sound Cadence Studios, which does recording for indie games, anime, webshows, such as Death Battle and RWBY. I mean, Malcolm's voiced for them in a few projects, so I can imagine the Walker Bros. Would get along well with Marissa Lenti or Amber Lee Conners if either were to direct them.
You made me realize ANOTHER thing that insults me as a fan and the source material! Dragonball never really had that "old mentor dies" cliche. Grandpa Gohan was dead before the series started. He was more like a "dead parents" stereotype and even that is not 100% the case. And Muten Roshi, Goku's first real mentor in the anime still lives in the current episodes! So here is another bullshit-cherry on top for you...
They had to set up the sequel that they though was certain to happen. They thought this because they didn't watch their own movie or even read the script.
wait, WHO's mom now? neither Goku or Chichi had mothers in the anime, good god they fuck it up THAT badly to insert originally absent parents?? so many sins that movie commits, it belongs in the center of Movie Hell, or HFIL if that's too harsh.
A Otaku On The Internet Of course. Gt has problems but there were still good shit to watch from it. I need the TFS riff track in order to watch this crap.
This was great!!! Please try to review the Death Note movie sometime!! I'm a huge fan of the show, and this movie beyond passed me off. I just want to see what you'd have to say about it!!
Goku was something like 4 years old in DB lol He met Chi-chi and Bulma at that age. Grandpa Gohan was killed by great ape goku before DB started. King Piccolo arrived when Goku was also still a very young child.
actually Goku was probably 11 at the beginning of DB, then when he meets Krillin he turned 12. EDIT: oh wait, or was he 12? bah, i havent watched Dragonball in months, so i forget.
In the manga Goku was 11 when he met bulma. He only thought he was 14 due him not being able to count correctly. When he was training with Krillin he eventually turn 12 after Roshi taught him how to count properly. Also his training took over the course of 7 months so there's that. This is me being nick picky so this part you don't have to read. After Goku defeated the Red Ribbon army, met his dead grandpa after beating him, he explore the world for 3 years for the next tournament. When he meet Tien he was 15 at the time. After killing King Piccolo 3 years past again and he was 18 at the time. 5 years later (cause DBZ took place 5 years after he defeated Piccolo's son) he's about 23 when Raditz came around. 1 year later he is 24, went to Namek, spent a year and a half in space now 25, 3 years later during the android saga 28 (29 after he got out of the time chamber), 7 years later when the Majin Buu saga started he was 36 ( I know he was dead at the time so he didn't age but I don't care). Now in DBS which took lace a few years after Majin Buu's defeat he's about 39-early forties as of now. Like I said you don't need to read that last paragraph I was just putting it out there cause I felt like it. If I miss a detail or two let me know.
They got Bulma and Chichi’s personalities mixed up, Goku can’t shift into the monkey form because his tail was wished off in the original, bad Piccolo was killed in the original Dragon Ball and the new one trains Goku’s son and sort of alliances with the world to fight back the new Saiyan invaders. If they wanted to go with the transformation and evil Piccolo, Goku would 1) need a tail and 2) be a child.
"wished off"? when the hell did that happen? i thought between DB and DBZ they surgically removed the root of his tail, which kept it from coming back. does that mean they wished off Vegeta's too after the Frieza Saga?
...I thought it could just only regrow when he was a child, so after a while it stopped regrowing... like how it takes longer to recover from certain injuries as you get older. I don't remember it being wished off?
It would be funny but not worth it. Even if Nozawa or the Funimation cast (if they gave a damn about this shit unless it was to make it... tolerable) dubbed this movie, it wouldn't save this film plus it'd be a waste of her vocal talent IMHO.
well, the mexican dub did have both goku adn piccolo's original VAs to return to their character because.... fans demanded it..... and it made it .001% less painful to watch
I only accept this movie if it was directed, written, produced and financed by Mr. Popo just so he could add to the pecking order. Mr.Popo: "Ok, maggots Popo is going to tell you the pecking order. There's you, DBE, the dirt, the worms in the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami and Popo. Any questions."
"Shit, I hope he doesn't know I was trying to blow that up..." I really wish that joke made the review. It probably didn't fit anywhere in the script, but it was still funny as hell.
My favorite thing in Dragonball Evolution is that the kids who bully Goku bully him BECAUSE HE SPENDS ALL HIS TIME TRAINING AT MARTIAL ARTS. Even without show knowledge that's fucking stupid.
You complain about how the bike appeared out of nowhere from a little device, but in the anime they have little capsules that can turn into full hover cars. So yes it makes sense in the DBZ world. Tho it is indeed ridiculous it is something they did get right....sorta.
It's because of the lack of world building...they got it right, but in an adaptation it still requires explanations. Dragon Ball just had a way to transport stuff via capsules...
one of the bigger problem of the film is that for the most part look like our world, whitout nothing out of the ordinary, so the capsule thing looks totaly out of place while DragonBall was clear that was a fantasy world, with dinosaurs, monster, flying car ecc.
They're not reviewing the Anime, just the movie. Even if the Anime explains things better, the movie is clearly not supposed to be a product that is based on the source material's canon/continuity, so it shouldn't be required to watch Dragon Ball/DBZ to understand the movie if the movie was written well.
I find it funny that Rob and Doug hadn’t seen anything about the show, and they found a way to make something more faithful to the anime. Then compare what they managed to make to the giant group of people who made this movie with a budget!!! Overall, it’s really impressive.
steven walker Original Dragonball. I think they might get bored of Z at their age because there isn't much story involved, it's mostly fighting. At least not until the Cell saga. The original Dragonball is more comedic and story driven.
This movie was atrocious, they changed all the lore. Goku is not Japaneses, he is an alien from planet Vegita, he was never a dork or in school, he was only interested in training and getting better, also Chichi was the one that was after him, not the other way around.
@@UltimateGamerCC well, Goku did get brain damage as a baby, which is why he's like this. If he hadn't fallen on his head, he wouldn't be the character we all know and love!
Seriously, that’s part of what made Dragonball interesting is that Chichi just kinda decided, you’re my boyfriend now, and Goku went, ummm, ok, whatever I guess XD
Ohhhhhh! She was supposed to be *Chichi*! I honestly was wondering who she was. I havn't watched the movie and it's been a while since I saw the review. None of the characters were remotely like the anime/manga, so I was having trouble. Goku and Piccolo were obvious, but that was it.
@@mentaya11 I really don't know what's going on with Bulma's hair in this. If you look back at the show, she's had so many interesting looks, yet they went with...a top knot? That's supposed to be Chi-Chi's look. But the knot just spills out after that, what were they going for with this style?
The funny thing is, in the original Dragon Ball story his grandfather was already dead for some months before the story starts (Goku's killed him, while he became an giant ape and he didn't know about it). So even the original story the artist had a small twist on this trope. Goku also didn't wish him back, since his grandfather told him (long story), he didn't wanted to go back. Goku's second mentor (Master Roshi) died in the third arc (he isn't even the first friend of Goku to die).
Too bad the original plot of this show was literally Goku going on adventures and had no real overarching theme. Sometimes he was training, sometimes it was going to get dragonballs just because, sometimes it was fight the red ribbon army, sometimes it was travel the world and learn training things. Piccolo took such a small portion of the orginal anime (Dragonball not Z) and Piccolo's goal was to regain his youth. That was it.
The sad thing is: they could have done something new with the "sensing the real person" cliché: in the anime and in this pile of garbage they call a movie, Goku has the ability to sense person's lifeforces, he even could sense his grandfather and Master Roshi. So it made no sense, that he couldn't sense the real ChiChi and the writers even abused the Kamehameha for this: it's a deadly attack, not a reviving attack.
The strangest part of this shit...DragonBall actually has nothing to do with the old mentor dying thing. You know the grandpa in this movie? At the first episode of DB, he was already dead. And was not the inspiration for Goku`s journey or any of that...Goku seemed pretty fine and resolved in that department. This characters are just share the same names as the ones in the anime. The story? More like a shitty spiderman than dragonball really.
To be honest, it's kinda good you guys don't know much about dragonball. I love it, grew up with it and watched/read every piece of media from it....I CANNOT FAIRLY JUDGE THIS MOVIE xD i'm normally not to bad at separating an adaptation from the source material and will judge it on it's own merit...I can't do with this, i just can't, it is SO distant from it's source it's painful. Also so glad you got Martin and Lawrence (lol martin lawrence) to help write the script aswell, it worked well having the inside and outside perspectives. And HOLY SH*T!!!!!!!! 997 K subs, sooo close, you guys bloody well deserve that gold play button (well diamond really, but one step at a time), CONGRATS!!
I rented Dragon Evolution from redbox but before I got a chance to see it I heard the reviews, I still have that rental from 9 years ago. The fact that I prevented others from watching that is my greatest achievement.
I actually started watching Dragon Ball for the first time a couple months ago, and intend to follow it all the way through Super (yes, even GT. Even though I hear it's terrible, I figure I may as well see WHY it's terrible).
Skippy the Magnificent I like GT. It's a mix of DB and DBZ. DB was mostly about adventure and DBZ was all mostly about the fighting. GT is probably equally about both.
Cool, I'm actually really liking the adventure aspect of DB, and the world-building. It really feels like a huge expansive world, a quality a lot of shows and books don't have.
Depends on whether you want to see the version of Z with lots of filler but more violence/gore or Kai with the filler taken out but also a lot of violence toned down.
Every time I see that kiss all I can think is "Goku has never kissed Chichi!!!" Why oh why must they get everything wrong?" He doesn't even know what kissing is.
I honestly feel its impossible to make a solid live action shonen. You can probably get away with something like MHA since its basically "japanese super heroes" but American filmaking cant really make a story of a "annoyingly chipper space monkey fights literally everything the universe throws at him while screaming to make his hair grow and change colors while 50% is filler/drawn out misadventures 25%is heavy grunting and breathing and the 20% is fighting and the other 5% is sex jokes". Edit: Don't worry, reader, I watch and enjoy DBZ. Hell my first game on the One was Xenoverse.
The only good thing that came out of the movie is that it pissed off the creator of dragon ball into making super
Got Beerus out of it. All is good.

They also skip the part about Goku killing his Grandfather
4:25: "if I have to see another old mentor die in a Goddamn movie"
Pretty much sums up uncle Ben
I can see Chris Stuckman be like, "How DARE you find it laughably bad!!!" I did the same thing tbh :/
Ya poeple are really bad at sealing thing the seal either weakens over time or out right brakes over time.
"I know this might be hard to believe, but-"
"I'm actually asian, in this movie"

It’s about time nostalgia critic is gold
Finally
And its about damn time
seriously how come they dont!
Piccolo turns his head at the end like, "What did we do last night?"
I just realized, the freaking opening is closer to freaking Legend of Zelda than it is to Dragonball!!!
Man I wish you guys had gotten Chris Stuckmann to do a scene where you guys call him and ask, "Hey Chris! You're a fan of Dragon Ball right? Wanna review the live action-" and then he ends the call and looks in the distance sorrowfully.
With the music from the Cat in the Hat review when Critic is looking to the sunset.
That would be perfect.
"Help me Goku"
*Kicks the one who spoke*
Real one: How did you know?!
Goku: YOU NEVER ASK FOR HELP!
I died at the end when you said Piccolo's face was like "You're still here?" Lmfaaaao
Close to 1 million. :)
When the bike scene popped out and Rob's suspension of disbelief flew out of the window and he was just like:
"Sure!"
Not much differences with hit button on tiny capsule and puff full size.
wait, there was an after credits scene?!
Daniel García Yeah, there actually was a post-credit scene in this god-awful movie.
Daniel García It features his mom. As a corpse
Third time I've watched this and I still die at "bless this lemonade"! XD
2:10 Rob, You literally just described fifty percent of every plots.
I wonder if the Emoji movie will be up for it next. Definitely needs it.
critic abuse! no one should be subjected to that filthburger
Dragon Ball GT is better than Evolution-
A Otaku On The Internet Of course. Gt has problems but there were still good shit to watch from it. I need the TFS riff track in order to watch this crap.
That’s the one good thing to come from this movie. GT is no longer the joke of the franchise.
Not a high ceiling to break through. Most fan pieces are more true to Dragon Ball then DBE was.
A Otaku On The Internet Dragon Ball Super is better than Evolution.
leonardo rodriguez Super isn't even close to being that bad of a series, but whatever. 😒😒
This was great!!! Please try to review the Death Note movie sometime!! I'm a huge fan of the show, and this movie beyond passed me off. I just want to see what you'd have to say about it!!
I binged these 1st Viewing episodes in an afternoon. Love seeing their initial reactions
9:36 to be fair, in the original the very first wish made was for the most comfortable underwear in the universe
Lol, that ending going into the credits and their commentary, hilarious.
Just noticed 3k more subscribers until you hit the Big 1 MILLION! :D Congrats!
-Piccolo in the bed, turning to see the woman.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Launch."
Nah, but could you imagine?
only Guy that Launch showed any interest in was Tien, but i suppose i could see it.
And the Internet shippers go wild...
Goku was something like 4 years old in DB lol He met Chi-chi and Bulma at that age.
Grandpa Gohan was killed by great ape goku before DB started.
King Piccolo arrived when Goku was also still a very young child.
He was 12 at the start of DB. He though he was 13 until Roshie taught him to count properly
NobodyImportant I never remember his age lol
actually Goku was probably 11 at the beginning of DB, then when he meets Krillin he turned 12.
EDIT: oh wait, or was he 12? bah, i havent watched Dragonball in months, so i forget.
Gamesta100 he was 14
In the manga Goku was 11 when he met bulma.
The Gaming Paladin a robot Ripped it off like nobody's buisness
It would be funny in the Japanese dub of Evolution if Goku was voiced by Masako Nozawa.
Just the original anime cast as their... *ahem*... "counterparts. That'd probably make it way more tolerable.
If TFS re wrote the dialogue and dubbed it, that'd be great.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! ~_~
5:14 sums up my reaction to everything once I’m just too pissed off to be pissed off. “-Sure.”
3:54 "I know this may be hard to believe, but ..." "- I'm actually Asian in this movie!"
Click like.
The original director: uh, yeah, how about.....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Mr. Popo: Any more questions? Good. Then we can begin.
Rob making Doug laugh will never not be enduring.
"Shit, I hope he doesn't know I was trying to blow that up..."
I really wish that joke made the review.
Yea but its the same thing essentially
one of the bigger problem of the film is that for the most part look like our world, whitout nothing out of the ordinary, so the capsule thing looks totaly out of place
while DragonBall was clear that was a fantasy world, with dinosaurs, monster, flying car ecc.
They're not reviewing the Anime, just the movie. Even if the Anime explains things better, the movie is clearly not supposed to be a product that is based on the source material's canon/continuity, so it shouldn't be required to watch Dragon Ball/DBZ to understand the movie if the movie was written well.
Keep in mind they said they never watched the show.
You could make a video of Doug sneezing and you'd reach 1,000,000 subs
I actually fell asleep during this movie and woke up to the final "fight" scene... My body literally saved me.
You know an adaptation is bad when non-fans of the source material know that if they were fans that they would be a LOT more pissed.
I just realized it sounds like Rob described the new Power Ranger movie when he summing up the movie at 1:46
I find it funny that Rob and Doug hadn’t seen anything about the show, and they found a way to make something more faithful to the anime. Then compare what they managed to make to the giant group of people who made this movie with a budget!!!
Overall, it’s really impressive.
Crazy to me how both Doug and Rob completely missed Dragon Ball
You guys should do vlogs on the dragon ball series.
steven walker Original Dragonball. I think they might get bored of Z at their age because there isn't much story involved, it's mostly fighting. At least not until the Cell saga. The original Dragonball is more comedic and story driven.
the beaten-dog 'sure.' from rob during the bike-making-unfolding nonsense is the best thing i've ever seen on this channel, i think.
*BEFORE YOU MASTER YOUR KI, YOU MUST MASTER YOUR SCHLONG.*
10:40 Maybe you should’ve gone with the Music Man version:
“Piccolo Piccolo
Piccolo Piccolo
CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!
That’s exactly what this movie is.”
A channel awesome video before 1K views?! THIS IS TRULY AN HONOUR!!
I wonder if the walker bros knew they were also talking about the Justice League plot at the beginning...
I remember seeing this and the last airbender in the theater. I’ve shut out most of what I saw those days
The sad thing is: they could have done something new with the "sensing the real person" cliché: in the anime and in this pile of garbage they call a movie, Goku has the ability to sense person's lifeforces, he even could sense his grandfather and Master Roshi. So it made no sense, that he couldn't sense the real ChiChi and the writers even abused the Kamehameha for this: it's a deadly attack, not a reviving attack.
you should review the disaster artist, it would be interesting, your "the room" review was great.
All you need to know about "Real Goku" is.. He likes fighting, but doesn't like hurting people.
1:13 you had me at FMA Doug 😁
I fucking LOVE Fullmetal Alchemist
You need to do your next 1st Viewing on helium! While drunk!
The first viewing is when Rob and Doug make essential notes that ultimately shape the NC review, so...
"old mentor's having a meeting place" in heaven is an amazing sentiment
The strangest part of this shit...DragonBall actually has nothing to do with the old mentor dying thing. You know the grandpa in this movie? At the first episode of DB, he was already dead. And was not the inspiration for Goku`s journey or any of that...Goku seemed pretty fine and resolved in that department. This characters are just share the same names as the ones in the anime. The story? More like a shitty spiderman than dragonball really.
I love how the filmmakers take Piccolo Jr., the most lonely character in Dragon Ball when he was a villain, and give him a sidekick and minions.
4:52
Grandma Gohan laughs in the afterlife
The theme song of this 'First Viewing' show feels like it belongs in a Civilisation game
Clearly not drunk enough for this movie
Do more drunk first viewings PLEEEEEAASE!!!
Skippy the Magnificent
When you reach Z, just watch Kai.
Depends on whether you want to see the version of Z with lots of filler but more violence/gore or Kai with the filler taken out but also a lot of violence toned down.
Gt isn't as bad as most people make it out to be. The beginning is pretty meh, but it gets better after that.
3:54
Chi-Chi: I know this maybe hard to believe, but...
Rob: I'm actually Asian in this movie!
LOL!!!
Every time I see that kiss all I can think is "Goku has never kissed Chichi!!!" Why oh why must they get everything wrong?" He doesn't even know what kissing is.
4:30 That’s pretty neat foreshadowing. :-)
This movie hurt so bad to watch that I got a zenkai boost afterwards once I recovered from viewing it. ~_~
8:16 That sounded like Super-Kame-Guru from DBZ Abridged!! xD
Akshay Ravi Kumar Naaaaaiilll!!!
It really boggles my mind thst someone can see 300 anime BEFORE seeing any Dragon Ball. That's basically the industry ambassidor.
