If not for this man there would be a lot less artist in music field ! He has help out so many and played on there records by the hundreds and always have been happy to help them out . I know at any show he lets some local new artist play before he coms on to help them get there name out there . HE IS THE MASTER OF SPACE AND TIME !!!! THERE NEVER WILL BE ANOTHER MASTER AS HE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 GOD BLESS YOU MR. LEON !
LEON RUSSELL - you just got to love this man and his music. I can listen to his best songs over and over - never get tired of him. His music is so enduring - so timeless and beautiful. I'm 60, but I feel like a child that just want to sit in his lap and listen. He has brightened up my day so many times - I feel I owe him something back ! Leon, your songs will live long into the future !
"Somebody I'm sure you all know by now, on piano Leon. Stand up Leon". A humble and giving human being and great performer. RIP Leon. Much appreciation for all the work you've contributed.
Leon is the true master of space and time. From great session player, to headline performer. An amazing singer, songwriter and musician! Keep on keepin' on Leon. Thanks for all the smiles and enjoyment!
Leon I love you , you were my first concert $5.00 @ the fairgrounds in oklahoma city i had older sisters that ttook me i already had your album Leon Russell & the Shelter People still one of my very favorites the older I've gotten the more I understand I guess wisdom really does come with age :) i also seen your induction into the r&r hall of fame and they mentioned you had some health problems I hope your doing well your just as handsome as ever!!! ♡ I send my love and best wishes to you and your Family you will always hold a place in my heart ♡love you man
That song has always been one of my favorites of all times ! It is a Magical tune with wonderful lyrics ! Heart felt tunes if you will thanks Leon Your music is etched somewhere inside me .
There is a reason why everybody wants to cut your songs, because you wrote some of the best songs of all time Mr. Leon Russell , and we wish you were still around 🎹
That Woman he is talking about is Bonnie Bramlet, has a good set of pipes, she is a hell of singer and a fine, fine human being, gold rings on ya Bonnie my love !😎!
Leon, God bless you! In my opinion, two of the most heartfelt songs ever written by Leon: A song for you and Superstar! Stranger in a strange land too!
"it was all off the top of my head"...yes, Leon, but backed by your years of playing, singing, exploring, working....all that hard work made it seem easy and natural. All that hard work. Well done to you. Love "Delta Lady" and prefer yours to Joe's, which here in the UK was a breakthrough song.
Leon did write standards though. "This Masquerade" and "Superstar" are standards in my book. The only reason more people didn't record them, though plenty did, was because Karen Carpenter's vocals couldn't be bettered. A lot of singers wouldn't touch those songs in particular because of her distinctive delivery . But the songs are unforgettable.
I'd never heard of Leon until the Bangladesh concert, but after he did Jumping Jack Flash I started buying everything I could find from him. Saw him for the last time in a small concert in Chicago not long before he passed and so glad I did. I hope he realizes how many people he touched with his music and how much we miss him today. His music will live forever.
What a Master! Saw Leon in several different formations back in the 60's and early 70's back in Denver. Always left the Venue with the widest grin ever...... Today, i look back, weep a bit, and know i was a witness to some of the greatest music we are gonna hear. Bless ya Leon...this one's for you.....
hopefully one day someone like Peter Guralnick or David Ritz will write the DEFINATIVE book on one of America's greatest treasures Claude Russell Bridges . Great post Denny and the DVD with the extra hours of footage is magnificent.
Leon lived a life! So talented, knew and helped so many other artists, his life would make a great book and I hope one gets written. Started out at 14! Played until a few months before he left us. Love Leon and his music.
Leon just suffered a heart attack within the past week. He had to cancel his tour through November. I wish him a full recovery and hopefully the opportunity to see him again in Northern California.
honest - he speaks honestly... I first learned about him way back in the 60s - I do believe that the music business weeds out the dreamers - you gots to have guts...
Leon is an amazing and enduring artist. And he's got a unique vocal style that's instantly identifiable. He's the only white dude that can give Jagger a run for his money singing "jumpin' Jack flash" :P
''Are there not artists, who can lift us up, & place us into themselves? And in turn, are they not the only 'One's' who will continue to lift us up... Even beyond their rests in peace?'' gilpin 22819
Think of all of the records he's played on. And EVERY one of those artists from Eric Clapton to Brian Wilson to Willie Nelson to Aretha Franklin ..... would tell you it was a better record because of the musical expertise that Leon brings to the project. The most important player since Louis Armstrong! ( OK, I was born in Muskogee- I'm a little bit partial.)
Leon is very underrated. Many folks hear his songs from others and never known him. I am glad I do.
Those songs will never get old. Seriously. Well done Leon. Well done.

What a beautiful, creative and humble man he was. Unless you pissed him off.

Will O the Wisp best album for me
Loved the man and his music. If I ever have a son, I'm naming him Leon. (PS: I'm also a blues/boogie/jazz piano player! ) :D
koolest man on the planet
Wow, his advice at the beginning for young musicians was quite discouraging, although perhaps very true for those seeking stardom.
A question: what is the difference between standards and hits?
Timeless music always will be remembered ....will you remember lil Wayne?
Who's Lil Wayne?
Oh man...

Wished they would have finished the song, now I have to search for it because that's a song you can't just hear a tiny bit of.
The Donny Hathaway version still my favourite of A Song For You

The song is called "A Song For You". It's the first song on his self-titled album. That album is freaking amazing!
The master
A shame Sinatra didn’t have an entire album of LR covers.
