I’ve been binge watching every video Leon ever performed on video and listening to his deep tracks. His piano playing was inspirational powerful and brilliantly executed. Thanks Elton for giving the man a hand before he passed. Thankful he was able to receive R&R hall of fame before he left this world. There will never be another Leon, he was a one off!
Yes! Elton did what was in his heart and simultaneously gave Leon the SPOTLIGHT which he richly deserves. May he rest in peace. He'll be forever in my heart as will Elton John!
+Carol Napolitano Good times, good times.. some bad tho, just sayin'. I came up through the 60's, all my 20's during the 70's. Elton...Leon Russell is my idol too...and I can't sing or play a note. Everything about him moves me. His appearance- "Master of Space & Time" indeed. That voice! An arresting growl..like no other. One of the most soulful voices in all of music...with that twang in there. His piano playing? Pure holy roller. Like something straight out of a revival meeting. And then there are his songs....
@@mark1952able I grew up in the 80s and am a fan of R&B music so missed the 70s when Leon Russell was in his prime. The fact that so many singers have covered his songs is testimony to his talent as a songwriter.
I got the surprise of a lifetime - I bought tickets to see Elton John in Chattanooga, Tennessee a few years back. When I got to the venue there were two pianos on stage - I'm thinking - OMG - is Leon going to perform tonight? I was in shock when he came on stage. Nothing was said about Leon being there - no advertisement that I saw - but I'm telling you - to see Leon Russell and Elton John on the same stage was a life changing experience for me that I will never forget! It was a fabulous show! The only regret I have is that I didn't bring my brother with me because he is a huge Leon Russell fan. What a beautiful song and such a humbling thing for Sir Elton John to reach out to the master all these years later. What a blessing to have had both of these masters in my lifetime

I was blessed enough to see Leon at small venues Oct 2015 and then again June 2016! I stood in the rain outside Leon's bus at the 2015 show waiting for his autographs. he had heart issues about 3 weeks after the 2016 show and passed away a few months later. I saw Elton 1 year ago and will again next June. I saw The Union tour in 2010 with these guys and consider my self very lucky but I really LOVE live music
That voice, you just had to stop and listen....especially "A Song for You". An amazing humble entertainer...to this day, I don't believe he knew how good he was. He did what he loved to do most....play and sing.
So Glad Elton brought Leon to the forefront...there would be no Elton if not for Mr. Russell ♥ Elton is finally going back to his great musical roots....the best is yet to come!
There's some footage called The Paradise studios recordings, it is he and JJ , lots of others also but you say more of JJ on this film then you've ever seen of him. Also what makes the whole thing worth watching is JJ showing you his guitar and how he's modified it. I think he was really depressed towards the end he was always kind of a recluse but Mark knopfler pretty much stole his entire style. I think it was kind of angry about that. And I don't know what Eric Clapton would have done without JJ songwriting after midnight etcetera. I believe that he also wrote they call me the breeze. But you probably know that cuz you're a fan.
They kind of missed it on this one. Leon Russell was the number one session player in LA for many years. He was a very important part of the Wrecking Crew witch was over looked. First off, let me say I absolutely adore both these greats. That being said, I think it's ironic that they've come together to collaborate because it's often been said that both can be egotistical and 'difficult'. Leon Russell is one of the greatest of the greats in rock history. I guess they've both mellowed through the years. I've missed Leon

Elton played all of his first two albums and Leon and the Shelter People played the Mad Dogs and Englishmen songs and Leon's other great songs. One of great pleasures of my life.
WOW. Jealous, I was 7 year's old on that day, but it wasn't long after, my older sister introduced me to Mr Leon Russell and I was hooked. Rolling Stone Magazine did an interview with Leon Russel, in the 80's, the writter looks around Leon's Living Room and says I dont see any stereo equip of speakers? What do ya do when you want to listen to good music?? "leon in his classic way said, I play my piano! " Like "Dumb ass"!
I have his Greatest Hits CD autographed by Leon himself in Lake Oswego, Oregon after a concert. He and I went to the same high school. We're alma maters.
Never forgotten by the generation when he was most visible. This show helped get him known by millions of people too young to have known he was so amazing.
I saw Leon and THE SHELTER PEOPLE at Mammouth Gardens in Denver in '70; one of the BEST of the many concerts I've seen. One was higher and higher after each song. RIP, my friend I never met, but I know you anyway.
Leon was originally a session man. He did a lot of keyboards for groups like Gary Lewis and the Playboys! Truth is stranger than fiction. Listen to the song "Count Me In", that must be Leon. His piano solos have a special sound.
Thank you Reg, for remembering Leon and helping him to realize how much he is/was loved and respected. I was blessed to see him 3x in concert, early 70s and last in 2010. Yeah, he was a bit more frail then, needed "a man who's young to walk him around". But the music was still there.
That's a load of tripe about Leon ever being "forgotten." His album sales stayed strong and he kept doing concerts all the while. he didn't need to be "re-discovered."
Mary Barnwell Why do you find it necessary to comment on Elton John's 'lifestyle' in order to comment on his great music ? What does one have to do with the other ? No one really cares what you think of his lifestyle because it's no one's business. Elton John has contributed more to music history than almost anyone around, as has Leon Russell. Just enjoy the music and quit with the judgement call.
Wow, Elton reminds me of the good old days of Elton John. And Leon Russell has a new fan. I've heard of him and a couple of his songs, However, I wasn't into his music at the time. As I hear him sing, his voice takes me back when I did hear him on the radio. After hearing them together head to head on the pianos, I can't wait to hear the whole CD and maybe attend a concert when they perform together again.
Nobody in this world can ever duplicate his voice, I'll always love you Leon Russell, Rest Easy ❤😘🙏
And he was such a sweet man and an extraordinary human being.

This is the one and only time I would ever watch The Vew! Just to see Elton John and Leon Russell.
I saw LEON and Edgar Winter at Mississippi Nights in STL. It was AMAZING. seen Edgar twice. Leon only once😗😗😗
SORRY just crying💔💔💔💔
What a legend . R.I.P. Leon Russell
Elton was very COOL back around the time of Tumbleweed connection, he's wearing the same type glasses, cool.😎
Been saying that for years! lol And Leon wrote one of the best songs ever...."a song for you" Elton has a few good writes too. Love you both
Elton has composed numerous tremendous songs, with many hidden treasures, not just a few good writes.
I'm Glad Everyone Is Enjoying this!! I Wanted to share this moment With you all!!
God bless Leon Russell! We miss you so much. 😞 R.I.P. brother..✌🏼
I have his Greatest Hits CD autographed by Leon himself in Lake Oswego, Oregon after a concert.
He and I went to the same high school. We're alma maters.
Thoses ladies are so dense. Leon was never forgotten and was the master.
Never forgotten by the generation when he was most visible. This show helped get him known by millions of people too young to have known he was so amazing.
R.I.P. Leon Russell
Lisa you are terrific!!
Elton is absolutely correct. I love Tumbleweed Connection. I had it on 8 track. And all of Leon’s albums.
You have a wonderful heart sir Elton thank you for your example of caring.
I saw Leon and THE SHELTER PEOPLE at Mammouth Gardens in Denver in '70; one of the BEST of the many concerts I've seen. One was higher and higher after each song. RIP, my friend I never met, but I know you anyway.
Beautiful👏
Long live Leon.
*Leon Russell* wrote two of my favorite songs: A Song For You and Masquerade
A beautiful Song
Both great performers. Does anyone else think Leon sounds like Willie Nelson?
yeah, sound it
Happy Birthday Leon. God bless him. ❤
That got me. Crying like a baby. 😢❤
Leon Russel, incredible music maker.
Great album, beautiful songs, amazing artists!!

Why do you find it necessary to comment on Elton John's 'lifestyle' in order to comment on his great music ?
