I'm 1953 vintage. Started playing 64'/65... I can still get through Wind cries Mary, Little wing etc, but I can't play for hours now. Still doing gigs, but I have to have backup from my sons and nephews. Old age is a pain, but better than the alternative!
Ta.
Dang Mark! You totally kick ass playing Hendrix style, and you're the Bob Ross of guitar teachers. I play Hendrix with my thumb wrapped over, because I have long skinny fingers, but your playing is way more articulate and smooth. I'm gonna have to try this. Thanks for all the great lessons, and I hope you're having an awesome Easter!
Thanks buddy! Happy Easter to you too!
Great lesson...In my top 10 favorite guitarists Jimi is still the number one champ. Every time I hear Hendrix I am instantly happy..not too many guitarist have that effect 😊
Thanks! I feel the same about Jimi.
Wow this is one of your best instructional vid...very practical.
Wow, thanks!
This is wonderful! I’ve always been bummed that I can’t do the Hendrix/ Mayer thumb wrap thing so this was very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
@@MarkZabel Ditto! I've been playing for over 60 years but never learned Rockabilly, Rock&Roll, etc. because of small hands. No Thumb Required! Fantastic! This video and the JCFogerty one have opened up great possibilities for me. thanks Mark.
Mark
There is a RUclips guitar player called "Little Arm" that has no fretting hand at all and uses his arm to fret notes. He plays much better than I do with no fretting hand. He has great timing skills and excellent right hand technique.
Interesting.
Thanks Mark! working w/tiny hands here!
Glad to help!
Nice Easter video something to really get practicing on...nice job..ty
Thanks 👍 Happy Easter!
Thanks Mark love Hendrix Awesome LessonForsure !
My pleasure. Thanks for watching Laurie!
Great video, Mark!
Thanks!
Another fun, great lesson Mark! Thanks!
My pleasure!
Thank you for this lesson. I've watched other videos on Jimi's style and I could never get comfortable with playing with my thumb over the neck and could not figure out how to do it otherwise. Your video has given me hope. A lot to practice, but it will be worth it.
Awesome! Glad it was helpful for you.
This is a great video. you make it look so easy.
Thank you!
Nice. Concise. Thanks.
You're welcome. I work pretty hard to keep my videos short. Thanks for watching.
Yeah thank you for sharing this tricks! 😊
Any time!
Hey Mark, just want to say thank U for Ur work. I´ve just downloaded the PDF-Files and man: This is the stuff I was looking for. Thank you!
Awesome. Glad to help!
Great lesson Mark! I'm Hendrix inspired
Rock on buddy!!
very interesting lesson ! I've learned a lot.Thank you !😊
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Yup Yup, That is the sound. Thanks Boss.. .. You are appreciated.
Thanks brother!
Great lesson.😎
Thanks!
Great sound,Nice playing. Thanks for your time.
Peace*
Thanks.
Hi Mark
I'm late 50's and starting with a bit of thumb arthritis and I think some pain from Carpel tunnel although not confirmed yet. I've kind of resolved to continue playing as much as I can but keeping things within limits. There's no point in pushing too hard and causing more problems. I think the 'use it or loose it' approach applies here, but you have to be realistic at the same time.
Thanks for the great video.
You're an amazing player, and I think your lessons are within my capability even with a bit of ongoing pain.
Thanks..
Thank you! I can relate. I also have arthritis in my left hand. I find I need to avoid big stretches and over-using barre chords (that's bad for your play anyway!). Of course, playing too much is an issue too.
Thanks for watching. Glad my videos help - even if only a little bit.
Thanks Mark great lesson the tiny Triads & movement really bring out JH style! Great advice!! ❤👍👋🖤🦋🖤
Glad you liked it Kris! BTW, thanks for the requests earlier today. I don't have any Chris Stapleton in the studio. I'll listen to what I've got at home, and burn some if it's appropriate for the blues show. Hope you enjoyed the Bonnie Raitt song I played. Thanks!
@@MarkZabel I figured you'd say he's Country, lol, love his music! 👋
@@krisstieghorst7415 Yes, but the main thing is that there's no music of his in the studio. If it's bluesy, I'll buy it, burn it and play it - but I've got to bring it in myself.
WOW aha moment! When you play the 1st inversion of the A string chords you are are the base of pattern 1 scale for that chord and can pick any of those notes and sound great! Opens up a whole new world!
Exactly!
This is the video I needed to see, I’ve got small hands and sausage fingers, there’s no way I can use my thumb like Hendrix did, I play the guitar and have been playing for 33 years now,
Great video thank you for posting it
Glad it was helpful!
Wow! Very Hendrix-y! :)
Glad you like it!
The title of the video is perfect. Hatzov.
Keep these coming, Mark; we're depending on you.
Thanks!
sounds good bro.
Thanks!
I have the same problem.Small Hands. You right on Mark with this. Thank you
Right on! No need to hurt yourself when you can get the sound even without it.
Not only do I have tiny hands Mark but I have sausage fingers as well.
I find triads really help me.
I’m right there with you....I have small hands to, I’ve been playing the guitar for 33 years
Segovia. Look him up if ya haven’t heard of him. He had short sausage fingers and was the Hendrix of his time.
Hey there-bro, did you ever look closely at Roy Clark's hands? He had big sausage fingers, and he could play the hell out of anything with strings! You can do it if you stick with it 😊
@@almcclung2783 yes I’ve seen Roy Clark play it’s just been a really long time since I’ve seen him play
Any help for my beat up Hands is greatly appreciated..
Sure thing. Thanks for watching!
Maybe a bonus one would be counting. One of the best things I ever picked up from Eric Johnson is playing 5 notes over 4 beats. A game changer for this style.
Cool!
Mr. Mark, maybe small hands, but a big heart ❤️!
Thanks so much Gary!
My stubby fingers have really been holding me back on learning some of his songs. Im 40, and just took up the guitar again last year, for the first time since high school. Thanks for this! Ill give it a try...after my nap 😅
My pleasure. Good luck with this. You can do it!
Gonna have to watch this a hundred times. Just going through this too fast. Grrrrr
as a drummer, you have greatly enriched my guitar playing enjoyment, invaluable knowledge...if you're a Floyd/Who fan I'd love to see some breakdowns on their tricks of the trade. thx.
Thanks ... and great suggestion!!
Hendrix was phenomenal Mark, thanks for sharing. By the way, could you please do a lesson on the 60's psychedelic patterns and sounds of the Jefferson Airplane?
Great suggestion!
Im really astonished with your teaching .

My left index finger has severe trigger finger and any playing is painful for the first 15 minutes or so and even a bit after that...if anyone has any remedy or advice, please help! Played guitar for many decades and it is heart breaking. 2 Cortisone shots helped for a few months but no longer.
Oh man, my heart goes out to you brother. Wish I knew something that could help. Advil helps with my arthritis, but even so, I've got to be careful and not over play. Hope you find something that helps.
Icepack then heat works then add tumeric powder to a soup and repeat daily
@@johndicarlo225 Thanks, I do take turmeric everyday and I think it helps some, but somedays the pain is just too big of a hill to climb and I skip my usual playing times.
❤
Thanks John!
Happy Easter
I have small hands and mutilated my index and middle fingers at work in '78.
Been using Jimi's chords ever since except I use my little finger more and can't use my index for many things.
Good on ya'!
@@MarkZabel thanks m8
😄😎
Thanks!
@@MarkZabel RUclips deleted all my subscriptions for playing along with music with chords and I'm rebuilding my likes
Mark - which of your courses has the most Hendrix-focused instruction, especially along the lines of this video?
Practical Triads 101. Once you see triads everywhere and learn to play "moves" around them, this kind of thing becomes very clear.
@@MarkZabel Thanks Mark. That sounds good, but I decided to just get the whole membership. That 20% coupon made it a no brainer.
Ask Danny Gatton; he didn’t have big hands and he played like a boss….
Beats me how Jimi Hendrix and any large fat fingered guitarists, could manage to play those triads without muting the strings and fluffing the chords.
Most people agree it's easier with long fingers than short or medium length fingers. I understand your point though, and Fenders do have skinny necks.
I think there might be an easy answer to this question. Just play you. Jimi is Jimi. Eric is Eric. Billy Idol said many years ago "Writing songs is easy". "Writing good songs is really hard". / I disagree with this statement. You just have to be a little interesting, with a little something interesting to communicate. If you are a nice, interesting person -this will come out of you. And if you are an idiot - I pray for you...
You first have to be on acid.
Great video Mark thanks for this it seems helpful for my chubby old hands
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Hi Mark,
I tried to get some of the free tabs & chords you'r offering, filled in my name and address, but I don't get the mails. What I'm doing wrong?
Hi Peter, I don't know your email address, so I can't check to see where you are in the cycle, BUT you should check your spam folder to make sure my emails aren't going there. That's most likely the issue.
