The poem is a first draft. It didn't turn out anything like I first imagined. I imagined something more formed and crafted. Something that resonates more with the direction I wish to head in with my art, however, I kept procrastinating and more and more time passed from the initial idea whilst I stood in the shower and decided that I needed to just get something down that I could return to and edit. This is the first draft which was just a pure stream of consciousness onto the page.
It was inspired by a thought I had in the shower about how people don't even like to make eye contact with each other and say good morning on the street. Or how people put their foot down when driving to make it to a gap before someone else, just so they don't have to be inconvenienced. How people are so locked to their phones, and streaming services, that they don't want to go out and socialise anymore. How the cost of living crisis here in the UK is well underway and yet taxes continue to rise, house prices are soaring... and we just live in a crazy time!
    Thanks for watching.

This poem navigates the terrain of our modern disconnection. It reflects on the fleeting moments of eye contact that we dodge, the hurried steps we take to avoid a simple "good morning," and our collective race against time, space, and each other. It delves into our fixation with screens and digital escapes, our reluctance to engage in the rawness of real-world interactions, the decline of lasting partnerships, swallowed by the rise of a hookup culture that prioritises temporary connections over meaningful, enduring relationships, and how, amidst a burgeoning cost of living crisis in the UK, with taxes climbing and house prices soaring, we find ourselves caught in the whirlwind of these times.

This reminds me of how lonely the world has become. Where it feels offensive to share eye contact or a smile with others. Gives me Simon and Garfunkel "The Sound of Silence" vibes. Love it!

This was so good to read! I am glad that you were able to connect with the piece in this way, that was the initial intention - though the execution and the poem that made its way to the page wasn’t quite how I envisioned it, but this version is growing on me! 🙏🖤

Why is this not on the Cove so we can help develop this kernal? I agree with your observations. This needs to be a longer price that ends with the beginnings of breaking free
