I love this poem. Simon started with this at the Hay Festival a few years ago ... and you started to think he was being polite ... then realised it was this poem 😊
"Passengers either partially or wholly dependent on kindness, please have your travel coupons validated at the Quarantine Desk." This is the saddest sentence I've read in a long time.
True. And I think it's better to sit back, relax and board last when everyone else has settled down and stopped fussing in the overhead lockers. But that would be another poem!
Funny how this stands true for the world in general at most times in concert plane and travel and much more , found this because i was looking for Odyssey the BBC program that Simon armitage did
If I ever meet you on the Camino. please talk to me in these tones, I am seriously cracked up, totally feeling the bullshit. all the very best from Ozstraylia...K.
Hahaha! Sad but true. We stood in the priority lane once, and laughed (internally) as the nasty little self-important people who had booked priority boarding became cross that there were so many people in the lane. Perhaps the airlines do this so they can tell who the jerks are and who the cabin crew need to avoid in flight.
Wow! My first time hearing a poem by him. His voice and acting add so very much to this powerful statement. Thanks!

Another cracking poem to dive deeper into ...... 🤔

The last part (which has words relating to trash and scum) is the most sobering part of the poem for me.
Tragic, true, hilarious. I laughed even harder the second time.
an excellent video, thank you for waiting
This is a truly great poem.
Ahhhh, they finally called us up! Hope there's room for my carry on.
hahahaa
And all will land at the same time ....

Well said. Thankyou. I enjoyed it.
Very good. Looking forward to reading the new collection.
Love it
I love this -- it kind of reminds me of something Steve Martin would write.
This is why I only travel Socialist Airlines.
Fantastic

It's almost as if he's trying to tell us something
Powerful.

That Richard lost 5lbs poster is still there, I was there three weeks ago
I guess "poets" would have been too easy as a last class. Smiles.
Did anyone get this for homework
yup.
Yup
Eeyup
Must say I thought it a tad obvious
By his standards yes. But I think that's the point, that these types of class signalling stratifications are becoming too obvious and exhaustive.
