Sämtisersee Wanderung (Hoher Kasten - Appenzell, Switzerland)

Brülisau - Sämtisersee - Staubern - Ruhsitz - Brülisau
Mit ÖV oder Auto beginnt diese Rundwanderung bei der Talstation der Bergbahn vom Hohen Kasten in Brülisau (Appenzell).
Die Wanderungen im Alpstein sind steil und die Täler sind tief eingeschnitten. Der kleine Gebirgszug an der Grenze zu Deutschland und Österreich wirkt trotz seiner geringen Höhe - höchster Berg ist der Säntis mit 2501 m - sehr mächtig.
Der Alpstein ist recht frequentiert, vor allem der Aescher und die Ebenalp und der Seealpsee wird in verschiedenen internationalen Reiseführern angepriesen. Bei der hier vorgeschlagenen Route ist vor allem auf dem Teilstück der Gratwanderung vom Berggasthaus Staubern bis zum Abstieg zur Alp Soll mit weiteren Wanderern zu rechnen.
Der Aufstieg beginnt auf einem Fuhrweg und führt vorbei an grünen Matten und Wäldern recht steil hinauf zum Sämtisersee. Die Bergstation vom Hohen Kasten mit seinem Drehrestaurant ist unverkennbar. Der Weg hinauf zur Staubern ist steil und steinig, aber gut gesichert und belohnt mit wunderschönem Weitblick und im Frühsommer mit üppiger Blumenpracht.
In ständigem Auf- und Ab geht es dann auf dem Grat mit Blick vom Bodensee auf der einen Seite zum Rheintal und Arlberg auf der anderen Seite Richtung Hoher Kasten. Diese Route führt dann hinunter zur Alp Soll, es ist aber auch möglich weiter zum Hohen Kasten zu wandern und dort mit der Seilbahn wieder nach Brülisau hinunter zu fahren.
Der Blick geht weit und idyllisch ins typische hügelige Appenzellerland mit seinen verstreut liegenden Höfen.
Mit der Höhendifferenz von fast 1000 Metern und einer Streck von 14 km ist es eine eher strenge Wanderung. Es hat steile und steinige Passagen unterwegs, aber keine wirklich gefährliche Strecken. Mit vielen Berggasthöfen und -hütten unterwegs ist für Verpflegung gesorgt.

This circular hike begins by public transport or car at the valley station of the Hoher Kasten cable car in Brülisau (Appenzell).
The hikes in the Alpstein are steep and the valleys are deeply cut. The small mountain range on the border to Germany and Austria looks very powerful despite its low height - the highest mountain is the Säntis at 2501 m.
The Alpstein is quite busy, especially the Aescher and the Ebenalp and the Seealpsee are advertised in various international travel guides. On the route suggested here primarily the section of the ridge walk from the Staubern to Alp Soll is rather busy.
The ascent begins on a small forest road and leads past green meadows and trees quite steeply up to the Sämtisersee. The mountain station of the Hoher Kasten with its revolving restaurant is nicely visible. The way up to the Staubern is steep and rocky, but well secured and rewarded with a beautiful view and in early summer with lush flowers.
In constant ups and downs it then goes on the ridge with a view of Lake Constance on one side to the Rhine Valley and Arlberg on the other side in the direction of Hoher Kasten. This route then leads down to Alp Soll, but it is also possible to continue hiking to Hoher Kasten and then take the cable car back down to Brülisau.
The view goes far and idyllic into the typical hilly Appenzellerland with its scattered farms.
With the elevation gain of a quick 1000 meters and a distance of 14 km, it is a rather tough hike. It has steep and rocky passages along the way, but no really dangerous stretches. With a couple of restaurants and huts along the way, food is provided.
