  • This course is designed to teach you how to train your dog to walk politely on a loose-leash. Many dogs pull when on leash, which makes walking both unpleasant, dangerous, and harmful for both the dog and their owner.
    Included in this course are lectures and video demonstrations that cover topics such as why your dog pulls, what type of equipment we should use, and specific techniques and exercises to use as you train your dog.
    Dogs that learn polite leash walking are a pleasure to take out, and as a result, they enjoy exercise, freedom, and socialization. This helps prevent both medical issues caused by lack of exercise, and behavior problems caused by not getting out for a daily walk.
    This class teaches polite leash walking using positive reinforcement and force-free training.

    This is a terrible method. The dog was walking and expecting a treat every second.

    I appreciate this video. The comment section seems to have some self proclaimed dog trainers that think yanking your dog's lead until it figures it out for themselves is an acceptable method of dog training. Another person thinks simply "exercising" the dog solves all problems. Truth is, dogs are a case by case basis. Using treats is not the only method however, what it teaches your dog is to keep the focus ON YOU and not the world around. You need to be the most interesting thing to your dog. Otherwise another person/ animal happening by might trigger a lunge from your dog because it doesn't need to focus on you. Other methods would include walking and stop walking as soon as the lead gets tight. Or hold their favorite toy in the hand the lead is in as you walk together. To keep the focus on you. Yanking the lead creates a fear in your dog which creates aggression towards people outside of the home because it is obedient out of fear and will sometimes attack strangers because of its fear of humans at that point. In really bad cases of overall abuse. Positive reinforcement helps the quicker progression of knowledge vs waiting for the dog to eventually get it.

    We personally like having dogs that walk with their head up an often offering eye contact and attention. It is not quite a heel, but somewhere in between looking ahead and walking at heel. Perhaps you can post a video of your dog walking the way you like so we can compare?

    Our training is heavily biased toward positive reinforcement.
    We do not use punishment that involves pain or fear.

    Hey for the haters that say this is a "waste of time". The video is called "Polite Leash Walking Class". Do you really think a video that is 1 minute long is an entire class? Of course it's our marketing video for our paid online class. Folks gotta eat!!! We have plenty of free tutorials on this channel too. So enjoy those, cheapskates. :)

      +Treatpouch.com I love how you always reply to the "haters" with a "i dont give a shit if you dont like this video" attitude! you are a business and you provide plenty of free videos online. And you are not the only ones who have "demo" videos for your school either. People just constantly want stuff for free. I say, try the stuff in the videos and if it works great, consider purchasing a lesson. if not, try another video or do obedience class in person. it's that simple.

    My yellow lab pulled because she wanted to sniff at every spot. She would sometimes stop at a particular spot and sniff for at least 10 mins! Even after that I tried to drag her away from the spot but she simply pulled me back! Sometimes, I thought, what could be so wrong for them to sniff when it is their nature to sniff but then on the other hand it can be quite aggravating for me as she would drag me to the spot!

      Also, try different or higher value food. Kibble and dog treats may not be enough. What about small pieces of cooked beef or chicken, or diced hot dogs, as an example.

    So the dog will walk outside staring at your hand waiting for a treat. I want my dog to walk with me on my side and act normaly, not waiting for a treat...

    It's also crazy to me that someone who's trying to help others train their dog is getting such nasty comments. It's funny because the comment section are people who intentionally came to this video or page to seek help or were just bored. Nevertheless, came to this video and became self proclaimed dog trainers watching a how to video on dog training and commenting that the Trainer is I correct or a waste of time. Anyone see how awkwardly idiotic that is? There are other methods yes not every dog reacts the same for one method. Dog owners should know this by now but, id be wrong.

    From pulling to begging?

    • @manglemot
      @manglemot 3 года назад

      Begging? No. You eventually stop giving the treats and the behavior will stay consistent as long as YOU are consistent with the target behavior. You don't need to use food as a treat. You can use their toy as well. But the object of the training is to keep their focus on YOU. And this method has been proven to be an affective training method and MANY trainers practice this.

  • @14Raine14

    Start by exersizing your dog regularly and she wont feel the need to pull you around. Most of the clients I see think that training is the one and only answer, when in reality the problem is that there is no exersize.

    • @manglemot
      @manglemot 3 года назад

      When you say exercising your dog, I hope you don't mean letting them off a leash to run around outside with the freedom to do and go wherever they want. If so, that teaches them nothing. You have to teach certain games and interact with your dog for them to trust you and listen to you. but yes exercise IS important for some behavioral issues that is caused by boredom but exercise alone will do nothing for certain dog breeds with high energy levels. Some dogs can go outside for 15 minutes of just running and be totally fine. Where others actually need interacting, positive reinforcement, behavior correction training, etc.

    • @14Raine14
      @14Raine14 3 года назад

      @@manglemot not unless that place is fully fenced and the dog has a proper recall! Exercise doesn't have to be playing off leash, it can be jogging next to a bike, swimming, it could be scent work in the grass, or a walk with a loaded backpack. The point I was making (8 years ago, I might add 🙈) was that you can try to train a dog for days, but if that dog is so pent up that they can't focus, it's not going to do much. I used to see it when I groomed in a salon, people who would say "if you're good, we'll go for a walk after!" and my toes would curl because I now have to have a dog who's been stuck inside all day with no exercise stand still enough that I can groom them without injuring them, when if they had planned that same walk for before drop off the dog would be much more content.
      I tell people it's like having a bottle of pop with the lid screwed down tight. Some dogs, no matter how long the top stays on, will never explode or bubble over when the top is taken off, and others need time every day to release the pressure build up. And for every dog, that can look different, and it's important to know how each dog as an individual needs that need met. Some dogs need a 5km run every day, some are happy to go around the block. But to me, that should come before any attempt at training

    Treats don't intrigue my dog in the outside :(

    • @manglemot
      @manglemot 3 года назад

      There are other methods. First the dog needs this action taught INSIDE. Or in the backyard. And even just in the front yard before graduating to full.on outside. Walk around the house and give treats. When you have accomplished that, go to the back yard. When you have accomplished that. Find a large empty field. There is no stimulants available. Then introduce another person. Then another person with a dog from very far away and slowly close the gap between one another. This is a secondary training on how to stop lunging at other people or dogs as well. It may take a while for some dogs but eventually it'll catch on. But other than treats, use the dogs favorite toy and hold it in the hand you are holding the lead in so the dog can focus on you. Or simply stop walking the moment the lead gets tight. Once the lead loosens up then you continue the walk.

    yeah sure, bribe the dog why don't we?

    • @manglemot
      @manglemot 3 года назад

      Bribe? Have you ever trained an animal? Treats are a universal gesture of good behavior. And it is far from the only method. Treats are not always food either. Simply playing with your dog is a treat and if they give you the behavior you want, you reward with play. Like playing catch. Wait for the dog to sit, when they sit, you throw the ball. Positive reinforcement for target behavior. Birds, cats, and even humans are conditioned this way. Where the hell have you been son?

    • @manglemot

      Pulling on the leash not only hurts your dog physically but emotionally as well. Makes them fear you vs trust and love you. Having a dog I a companionship. Treating your dog like that is as if you have a slave that needs to bend to your will. That mindset creates aggression.
