Thanks for explaining the research. Tip for everyone; try to eliminate sugar by creating a plan of action. I did it this way; first day my coffee and tea had to have regular sugar , next day half of the sugar from the day before, the third day half of the half until I eliminated sugar from my espresso and tea. Now I only use a little of Monk sugar in my coffee with half and half and that is only once a day.

Aspartame is evil! I suffered from elevated inflammation (I have RA) and chronic digestive issues for almost two years until my GI doctor told me to stop all artificial sweeteners for a couple of weeks to see if was the culprit. As a diet soda addict this was a lot to ask, but I did it. The change was beyond dramatic! My CRP (inflammation) level dropped from 16+ down to 9, and the chronic diarrhea I suffered from stopped. Just stopped cold. Giving up the diet soda was really tough, but I make do with flavored seltzers and the occasional can of stevia-sweetened Zevia, which is a carbonated beverage with no artificial ingredients. I have also given up all other fake sweeteners, even though they cause less side effects. It is limiting but there are more and more naturally sweetened products in the stores if you search them out.

No, it isn't evil. It's absolutely fine.
The fact that *you* have something different about you that makes you sensitive, does not mean it's evil. It means you shouldn't use it. Nothing more.
People have actually died from many hundreds of our foods. Do you think corn, wheat, tomatoes, etc are evil as well???
Try not to be too melodramatic.

    • @loonyTlu

@@happydays1336 Thanks for the good thoughts! Flavored seltzers have been a lifesaver for me. I just had an A1C test and it came back at 5.2, which is in the normal range! You do have to look on the ingredient list, as some are natural flavorings (citrus) and some aren’t. None of them have coloring added. The only thing to watch for is some brands add sodium. I’m in CT and there is a regional brand called Polar out of MA and they must have 25 flavors. There isn’t a lot of flavoring added so I don’t worry too much about it as I cut way back on the amount of carbonated drinks anyway. For the most part I now drink mostly home brewed iced teas of all varieties, both real teas and herbal, sweetened just a bit with stevia/monkfruit blend.

Doc, you're a joy to watch! I'm usually not so keen to watch long videos but yours make exception. I relate a short story on topic of sugar substitutes..As I find myself in pre diabetic range (barely) I take steps to lower my sugar glucose. The only sweet snack I still keep is dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao. Well I thought being sugar free would definitely be a bonus but now not so sure about that. I've noticed it's being produced with maltitol sugar alcohol and has 16 g carbohydrates per serving of 4 squares. Prior to that about 3 months ago I used a good quality dark chocolate, also 70% with regular sugar added. I've just recently done my blood glucose and noticed increase in fasting from 104 to 116 and in A1C 5.7 up from 5.2! Can't think of other reasons but what you've said at the end of this video. Wow!

I am diabetic and tried using aspertame or the newer version neotame, but I found that it gave me migraine headaches. I did not get the same reaction with other sweeteners like sucralose, stevia,or monk fruit. I have been using sucralose for the most part but am switching over to a newer sweetener whuch is a combination of monk fruit, stevia, and ethrytol. It isn't as sweet as sucralose but has a good flavor. I am surprised you didn't cover monk fruit in your review.

A couple of sweeteners that I have interest in that weren't covered but I would love to know how they stack up against the sweeteners you did cover. Reb M, Allulose, & Trehelose. All appear to be naturally occurring in nature that are now synthesized via fermentation a fermentation process. I believe that the gut microbiome will convert some Trehelose into sucrose, but Reb M and Allulose are not processed by the body. Thank you in advance.

I love it when someone makes sense. I am one of the people that Splenda and other sweeteners do not raise my blood sugar. I wear a Free Style Libre, so I absolutely know. I was diagnosed with severe hypoglycemia at the age of nine. I have used artificial sweeteners all my life. It is miserable to have your blood sugar crash down to 35 and below. My husband is diabetic. Splenda raises his blood sugar. The study with some people being affected and others not makes perfect sense to me.

Hey Doc, this is the first time I've come across one of your videos. Thanks for the content and I've subscribed. I tried doing a search on your channel but came up empty on the non-sugar alternative that I'm interested to hear more about. Allulose seems to be getting more and more popular and from what I've read it is an excellent replacement for sugar even though it only about 70% as sweet as sucrose. I even saw allulose on the shelf at a regular grocery store for the first time recently.
Earlier this year the FDA had a request for comments on how they should alter nutrition labels to declare allulose since as of this moment there isn't really a place for it on the nutrition panel. Most companies are choosing to declare the amount of allulose they are using on another part of the label so consumers can take it into account. I actually read through all of those comments that the FDA got and shockingly I thought that General Mills had the most reasonable and well thought out document.

I am diabetic and I was in the store and saw Jelly Belly's sugar free jelly beans. I was excited and bought a small bag and that evening I ate 3 or 4 of them. I didn't eat more as I didn't like them. That night I started having loud gut sounds and towards morning I started having violent diarrhea. Later that day I was concerned that I had gotten C-Difficil again ( I had this five times) The next morning I went to my VA hospital for a C-Diff test and they took blood and feces samples. They came to me and told me I had to be admitted immediately as both of my kidneys had shut down and I was in renal failure and in danger of losing my kidneys. I spent almost a week there and I told the doc that I suspected the jelly beans as I had read a small warning (after I ate them) warning that they might cause severe diarrhea. They read up on Maltitol and agreed. I was discharged 5 days later and highly recommend against eating anything with Maltitol.

I started getting recurring skin tags. A insulin resistance symptom. I'm am "rugby player" physical build. I have not eaten red meat in my adult life. I avoid processed meats, cheese and cereals and grains. I dont eat pork or deep fried foods. My downfall was I was consuming large amounts of zero calorie drinks. My father's gastroenterology team were extremely negative on consuming real sugar or corn syrup. So I blindly accepted any zero calorie artificial drink. Yet i waz gaining one or two pounds every year for 16 years. This past year after learning the significance of skin tags during these weight gain years I decided to start monitoring my blood sugar with a $30 finger stick kit. My morning or fasting blood sugar level was 80. I went out and ate 2 slices of pizza which I aproximated to be 90 grams of carbohydrates. I then too blood sugar reading one hour after. I was up to 125. I took more readings one hour apart for another 4 hours. I finally returned to my fasting blood sugar level of 80 after 3.5 hours. I calculated that 25-30 grams of carbohydrates was all I could clear by my pancreas per hour. So I set 50% of that 25-30 grams as my limit for any meal. This in my theory would allow me to return to 80 as quickly as possible after a meal. By the way for each blood sugar reading I had to do at least 4 sticks on different hands and fingers to come to a "more or less" number.
So how did I actually change my diet? No more artificial sugars. STEVIA and erythritol only. No more wheat flour carbs. Everything would be made from almond and coconut flour withlots of physilium husk. And lots more plant based fats like avocado, nuts and organic nut butters. Must be organic peanut butter avoid Skippy, Jeiff, Peter Pan, at all cost. And I limited fruit to 2 serving a day so that I was getting minimum 100 vitamin C micrograms. This meant small gala apples, berries and yellow pepper.
Result: I lost approximately 1.5 pounds per week every week until I lost all 30 pounds. The interesting thing was that I did no aerobic or weight lifting during this time nor did I eat more vegetables or chicken or fish or dairy. I lost weight more than ever dimpl7 by not eating more than 12 carbohydrates grams during a meal. No more than a spoon of rice, no more than a spoon dessert no more than cheese cracker size of bread. And lots of almond and coconut flour home made replacement of store bought bread. Coconut or almond flour pancakes, Flatbread, muffins and keto cheesecake and flan. I never felt hungry or had cravings. It's just a bit of time in the kitchen.

Agree that no "cereals" are really good to eat because of plant based ingredients and too many carbs.
"Pure Sweet" brand of white powdered stevia is great.
About 1/2 heaping teaspoon for a gallon of tea or coffee.
Lost 40# in one year with it and mylong itme high blood pressure is now normal.

SugarMD thank you for directing me to this video I'm definetly on the right track and Im sticking to my stevia in the raw and the stevia plant When I first started my journey to healthy eating 2007 was not easy trying to figure it all out. I love these vids. Also since my taste buds have changed I'm using much less stevia than in the pass.I went from 2007 using 4 to 5 packets now if I use it 1 package taste sweet enough in my hot tea. I use the plant also mostly at home and in my purse goes a packet or two incase I stop to get a hot tea. The good thing about my taste buds changing, food taste much better to me now When I use fresh organic berries to make tea I don't use stevia because the fruit water is very sweet even more so 😊 than using the stevia. I do enjoy your vids and what a blessing for all the free information you send our way. I sure appreciate it Thank u much smile 😊 🙂

There have been benefits to severely curtailing my intake of sucrose, but, as you suggest, my blood sugar is a little bit higher than it should be. I have been taking your Super Berberine supplement, and that has produced improvements in my numbers.

Thank you Dr.for this video previously and I wanted to test myself with Sucralose and Stevia.
The ingredients in the Sucralose:Dextrose, Maltodextrin, Sucralose 1.5%. I used 5 sachets one hour before before breaking the fast. I checked with 3 different meters: freestyle, Acuckeck instant, contour plus. My blood sugar didn't even move by one point.
Still I was doubtful I tested on another fasting day. Same.
However I am wary about any changes to gut bacteria. I only use one or two tablets per day. I don't eat any bakery product's-sweetened or unswtened.
Thank you for this video. It is better to be cautious.
