I am a Southern Californian . This song is a total “ Laurel canyon “ vibe . Very mellow , very groovy scene in the late 60’s , early 70’s.
This song is magical. I can see my teenage self sitting on the floor in the living room listening to this album and picking the needle up to play this song again and again.
Definitely not a filler! One of the very best Zepp songs!
This was 1 of zeppelin's best songs by far. Definitely not a filler song. Probably 1 of the best acoustic songs of all time.
I finally moved to Cali at 51. With my husband. Built a nice place. Together. I’ll never ever regret it
Such a beautiful song. It’s like the calm before the storm of When the Levee Breaks.
The calm between the first two songs and the Levee.
If I had to pick one band to listen to going forward it would probably be Led Zeppelin 👍
I definitely wouldn't consider this song "filler" since it would become an integral part of their acoustic set in concert. This song was inspired primarily by famed Canadian singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell, who, some say both Robert and Jimmy had a bit of a crush on. The lyric "they say she plays guitar and cries and sings" is directly about Joni. When played live, after that lyric, Robert might say "Joni" or "Oh she sings" and sometimes in other performances, he says "and she comes from Canada" or other telling remarks. She was known for using a variety of open tunings on her guitar; a concept also often employed by Jimmy Page, including on this very song. This song is also a bit of an homage to California in general (LA specifically) because California was the first place in the States Zep hit big. They even reference an earthquake ("mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake") that Jimmy had experienced one time when he was in LA to mix their Led Zeppelin IV album.
As much as I love LZ. They have one filler. Hats off to Roy Harper. God awful. Should have put Hey Hey What can I Do on the album
@@josephlinnell9855 I disagree on Roy Harper, I like it. It sounds like old time, Depression-era, dustbowl music; something you can barely hear because maybe the radio station signal isn't strong enough so it keeps fading in and out. It would have been nice to have HHWCID on an album properly, but at least we have it.
@@josephlinnell9855noooo! Hats off to Roy Harper MUST be heard out loud with the best sound system. Roberts voice is amazing. I respect your view but entirely disagree
I think this fully expresses Robert’s range. Such a beautiful song as it shows off his vocal strength and restraint, and ability to go from his upper to lower range, softness to hard edged tone. What a showcase for his greatness.
I love the acoustic guitar and that mandolin played by Bassist and keyboard man John Paul Jones. That man can play anything. His mandolin in this song, is the perfect companion to Jimmy Pages's acoustic guitar. This song is just so relaxing and laid back.
Especially with the double dropped D tuning. Perfect with the mandolin.
I will a,ways love this song. I’m 73. Oh I’m sure you’ve heard this song.
This is not a filler. Fantastic song. Zep had a lot of variety. Thanks for going through the albums!
No filler at all on that album!
Yeah, this is prob one of my top few favorites of theirs! No filler!
Filler just doesn't apply to Zep, period❗️
@@klasseact6663 I agree 99% but #3 qualifies with some of side 2. That's it though, killer. Not filler!
Hell no, it’s not filler! This is a STRONG track and still gets regular rotation on classic rock radio today..
A flower child song if I ever heard one.
Loved the Dukes of Hazzard remark! LOL!
Many Led Zeppelin fans' introduction to the band was through this song. My sister, a fan of folk music in the 70's, fell into the LZ rabbit hole after hearing this on FM radio. Their diverse catalogue draws a diverse fan base.
One of his greatest recorded vocal performances...
"Someone told me there's a girl out there, with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair." Robert Plant said he was talking about (the Great) Joni Mitchell.
This is my go to song when l'm stressing out...l just put on my headphones, close my eyes and breathe. By the end of the song, my heart rate is back to normal!🤗
One of my favs. LZ. Geeeeeezz it’s a perfect love song don’t get up
heard this song a million times...never ceases to amaze me how awesome this band was
At this time Zeppelin were doing all they could to stay strapped into the tumultuous rollercoaster of success they were having. They knew there were a phenomenon, but couldn't quite believe it themselves.
Can never go wrong getting the
led out✌️
One of my favorite bands in high school! Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd!!! All I ever listened to, Stereo blaring till my mom made me turn it down.
It's just a beautiful song but still showing thier talents with the complicated chord transitions.... They have to give you a breath between the heavy pounding tunes, like an appetizer between entrees!!💯😎
When the Levee Breaks is one of my favs of all music
Absolutely my favorite Led Zeppelin song ❤
Great song, great reaction--glad you were able to post it. The effortless, melodious, restrained power of Plant's vocal is like a V8 idling. ❤
All the best.
Love, love this song and Plants voice sounds so beautiful in it!
I just love Zeppelin
And Robert’s current album is his second-work with Grammy Winning, Queen of Bluegrass, Allison Krauss. Amazing!
This song always puts a smile on my face, just a beautiful tune and is a great break from the heaviness before and after. Thanks for enjoying as we have for half a century. Enjoy Houses of the Holy next, they expanded their horizons once again and came up with another classic album. Time has been kind to that album. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
My favorite song from Zeppelins
LZ showing the world that bangers can be whatever they want them to be, even w/o Bonzo. Great song.
Can't wait for Physical Graffiti
This live was fabulous!
You guys know your stuff.....yeah Jimmy is playing a Mandolin....and Paul is an acoustic guitar and Banjo.....great reactions!!!!!
Thank you sir!! Have a great weekend!!
Can’t wait for y’all to hit traveling riverside blues !!!
Yay....made it thru! The live 1975 Earls Court version of this is well worth a reaction. Joni Mitchell tribute. TY gentlemen.
Top tier Zepp song!!!
Love your reactions. You get great suggestions from your subs! My favorite Zeppelin songs are not the rockers that they are so well known for. This song is another example of John Paul Jones's influence.
my very 1st album ever is next wooot!!!
Man, what a song and intro to when the levee Breaks!!!!
Zeppelin would have an acoustic jam in the middle of there live set . love what you guys are doing here top reactions , so much better when the listener knows the mechanics of what there listening to . hope you do some more Zappa and early genesis . keep up the good work lads,. all my best to you and yours from Liverpool
What an outstanding album. Thanks for playing!
One of my all time. Wuvy s.
Led Zeppelin takes multiple listens…especially the next album. They have subtleties underneath the sometimes bombastic sounds. One needs to listen carefully.
They are impossible to imitate and cover. Their music is full of colors and shapes as Robert describes as a prism.
Untill a few years ago i only thought this was just another amazing and beautifull song Led Zeppelin put out for us... You know, whats the big deal... But. it is in fact a gem of a song: beautifull acoustic, classic guitars, beautifull melodies, beautifull vocals, talking about beautifull girls: now my second favorite out of this fenomenal album
Please watch this live at Earls Court, 1975 I think. 🎶Its so good to see them just sitting in chairs at the edge of the stage...Robert singing, Jimmy on the acoustic and John Paul on the mandolin💜🎶
Once again, PLEASE react to the studio version of STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, which you have so far omitted. It's NOTHING like the live version. In fact, the studio version is probably the finest rock song ever laid down on vinyl, and is #3 on Rolling Stones top rock songs ever. Please don't miss it. Thanks so much to you guys. I'm a 74 year old white woman who saw Zeppelin in concert in March 1970 (Led Zeppelin 2 tour where they previewed Since I've Been Loving You. I love them to this day.
21 years ago I went and saw Robert plant open for the who. It was the tour that John Entwistle (bassist for the who) died just before the tour started. Anyhow. I went to see RP and this song was a religious experience. Just beautiful.
There's no better. 👍❤🤙
New Band Suggestion for your Channel: *The Electric Light Orchestra.* Also known as *ELO* (say each letter like, NFL, NBA, CEO, FBI, etc., it's not, "E-low"). Don't let the word "orchestra" fool you into thinking this is stuffy old music. ELO was one of the biggest rock/pop bands of the '70s. In fact, during their 15-year career, they had more combined Top 40 Hits between the US and UK than *any other band in the word in that same span!* To get you started, I suggest their iconic 1975 hit, *"Evil Woman",* I guarantee you will love it! Use the studio version from the '75 album, Face The Music (it's got a photo of an electric chair on the cover).
For me the rolling rhythm of the Mandolin throughout envisions the wagon train rolling along, pots and pans swinging side to side, and the outro is the wagons rolling into the distance, heading west. 🙃
This is one of their best efforts in my opinion. I bought a mandolin after hearing this song.
Gorgeous song❤️🎶❤️
Think they undersold that song, IMO one of the best on the album.
Straight up one of Zeps most beautiful songs...
Another song off this album that didn't particularly strike me when it was released, but over time it's become one of my favorite Zep tunes. Great reaction on this whole btw guys. You two are the best reaction channel on youtube. Hope you do some Boston, Aerosmith, Beatles if they'll let you, etc
Jimmy page was the top studio musician side man whatever you wanna call it in England at that time him and John Paul Jones were both studio musicians they work together and at that time friends that’s a whole Nother story. together. They were talking about forming their own band. Jimmy has been with the Yardbirds and so forth, John Paul Jones told Jimmy I know a singer let’s go check him out they went to the club and they saw and they saw Robert Plant. Jimmy kept asking John Paul Jones while they watched Robert on stage he kept asking why isn’t this guy famous already? He was beside himself wondering why this guy Robert Plant was not already famous so Jimmy said he’s got to be our singer and the drummer isn’t so bad either and that was Bonham so they came together and the rest is history
I'm back like a vertebrae.. this motherfuker hits home
I was excited for y’all to here JPJ on mandolin.
“Ride a white mare at the foots steps of dawn” the genius of Plants writing.
Such a lovely LZ song. Thanks so much guys for posting this one. Nice, chill way to start the weekend!🦋
This is one of my top 4 of maybe 21 of LZ songs.
A great 2' longer version is on the live album How The West Was Won LA Forum 1970 or the video Earl's Court 1975. I love LZ's song variety specially on the 4 first album..
PS on the remastered album is additionally a mandolin-guitar version.
"How the West Was Won": "Going to California" performed / recorded June 27, 1972 at Long Beach Arena (California)
"BBC Sessions": "Going to California" performed / recorded April 1, 1971 at Paris Theatre (London)
@@cazgerald9471 Thank you and sorry, remembered it wrong. The BBC session 1971 is short but really great.
Earlier while listening I found a 9:46-broadcast-version Osaka 1971, need to hear it a few more times, maybe too long to enjoy long term. Have fun with all kind of good music!!!
Guys you are gonna dig Houses of the Holy. Between it and physical graffiti you get the full range of what these guys could do. I look forward to taking that ride with you
Great song. Change of pace but one of my favorites
love your work gentlemen....always a pleasure to turn on my comp...lay down with headphones on and watch your reactions. comments made by true music lovers. keep it up ...and most of all....thank you
Love this..in my top 10 Zep songs..❤
Yesssss. I've been waiting for this one. You guys are awesome
Great Channel Guys, hope you review more Zeppelin my favourite album of theres "Physical Graffiti" is a must if you find the time, all the best from the UK
Check the acoustic set of 1975 at Earls Court. Going to California That's the Way and Bron yr Stomp. Shows the absolute diversity of this band. God Bless. Love your reactions
Retired in Markham Ontario Canada listening to the Zeppelin and the bros sweating in 80 degree sunshine, probably gonna snow next week😅
Thanks for rocking with us. Have a great weekend!!
When you hear a song no many times as the years go by. Years abd years go by and your heart still tells your brain you’re ok. Thsts me
Can't always comment, or sign in, but I always go back an smash the like later... Cause, like this one, you always got it right.
We appreciate you
so classy and cali. Thanks
James Gang. Funk 49. 1970🔥🎶🔥
...just love it!✌
Song was inspired by Joni Mitchell, a giant singer songwriter talent. Not a filler. Joni did lots of folkish stuff, moved more towards jazz. She worked w/ Wayne Shorter, Pat Methany, jazz giants in mid to late 70's, after an already classic legendary run of album. Check her out, Amelia, Blue (the song, and the whole album, definition of classic album), River, Help Me, ... countless others. She's a monumental talent, influenced lots of folks including Page & Plant.
One of my favorite songs from them❤
Glad you caught those mysterious chords on the back half of the chorus
And I still live our Royals. 23 starting out pretty good
Great reaction as always fellas. Much appreciated 🙏
🔥💪👍,hits hard
my fave off the album, John Paul.
The sea can be red and the sky can be gray in CA and you don’t have to be high. Just nature
Laa and Chee. This is a beautiful musical composition. That’s it….
Do Joni Mitchell with Pat Metheny and Jaco Pastorius (and others) live singing In France They Kiss on Main Street…from the Shadows and Light album. Joni is who LZ was singing about in Going to California.
❤
From the beginning Jimmy Page wanted the band to be light and heavy. And they pulled it off well. It's why he instantly loved the name Led Zeppelin when someone joke, "Your band will go over like a lead Zeppelin" (Paraphrase). Oh, it was Keith Moon who said that.
They chose to spell "Lead" as "Led" because they figured most Americans would pronounce it as Leed. Lol ... They were right of course.
All the Riffs or chords come from old welsh English rhythms, the Appalachian accent and bluegrass come from Irish and welsh dialect
Life. A z king without a queen.
One of the songs you will miss Bonham on.
I’m sorry for the extremely long comment. This song makes every playlist I make. “Tryin’ to find a woman who’s never, never, never been born” is probably one of my favorite lyrics. I grew up in a small town. Moved to another small town. Married at 17 (pregnant and in the Deep South…you can’t be having a baby out of wedlock or you’ll be an embarrassment). Turns out he was an abusive individual after our first born. Long story short, got out after 11 years and P.T.S.D. Blasting Elton Johns song “I’m Still Standing” in vehicle with the windows down after the judge said divorce granted and never once checked my rearview mirror! I had never been out of the South. Meaning Florida-NC. I literally stayed locked in the house until he made it home, it was terrible. I met my now husband who has brought my life so much “magic” per say, with adventures that I never would have experienced. Those lyrics hit because I was a woman who had never been “born”. I found myself after 33 years of my life (I’ll be 34 soon) and not truly having my mother to lean on. She died when I was 17. I learned to love myself. Learned to forgive, genuinely, but never forget. Learned to be the woman I always needed when I was growing up. It was one of the greatest “rebirths” I’ve ever experienced. Life is one hell of a roller coaster but I’m thankful to be here. I hope y’all are having a great week! -Amber
You have to do Kashmir.....you wont be disappointed. I promise
Which album is that on?
We’ve been getting so many requests for this that we might have to jump ahead and do it.
@@AirplayBeats No! So close! Stay in sequence! lol. Physical Graffiti is a life-changing album.
@@tektoniks_architects Completely agree!
@@AirplayBeats Physical Graffiti....you're almost there! Stay on course! :)
Song is about Joni MItchell
Traveling riverside blues.
LMFAO - Uncle Jesse on the porch
I don’t wanna change the subject because I love Led Zeppelin but I’ve been switching through your channel and I noticed there is no Frank Zappa. It’s a giant wormhole but insanely satisfying. Your channel is totally the place for Zappa. Love everything you are doing
“Watch out.” 👈😉
Da bomb❤❤❤
