this song was written for Joni Mitchell... she’s the woman with flowers in her hair ... her song “California” is an amazing song
She's also the queen who plays guitar and cries and sings.
John Paul Jones on the mandolin. Jimmy on the guitar. No Bonham on this one. There’s nothing Led Zeppelin can’t do.
Truth!
Rap
Polka
To tell you the truth I think they go into an acoustic part of their con cert right after "Moby Dick" so Bonham can have a break.
@@donaldbrunner6250very interesting observation - Preeesh
you should catch the live version. It is magical watching them perform this imo. Of course I could watch Robert vocalize all day long.
This Zeppelin classic is a total CHILL song 🎵!!!! Both of you were feeling the Zeppelin vibe!!!!! Much more to discover in their musical catalog. Hope you guys are enjoying the holiday weekend. Keep rocking 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Back when I bought this album in 1973…when it first was released in cassette….the only good thing about this song was that the next song was…When The Levee Breaks….but the song started to grow on me….the same thing happened with the The Battle Of Evermore …it came before Stairway To Heaven…..on the same album…
This is such an underrated masterpiece!!! I remember listening to this song, Battle of Evermore & Baby I'm Gonna Leave You on the bus to school every morning & that's how I knew I loved Zeppelin! My top 3/4 LZ songs without question because of the story telling, the relaxing vibe & how different it is to other tracks
Nice bus tunes, lol! I remember hearing my first BOOTLEG Zep on the (high) school bus, lol! Dude named Chris had something from I think 1969 show ("Killing Floor/Lemon Song" I think) on cassette. Blew me away that such things even existed.
Battle of Evermore will always be my favorite!
“ To find a Queen without a king, they say she’s plays guitar, cries, and sings”. He’s speaking of Joni Mitchell, the “ Queen” of the Laurel Canyon singer/songwriter scene in LA circa 1970, and considered one of the best singer/songwriters of the past 60 years. Robert had a total crush (from afar) on her. Many did.
Robert, especially, really adored the “California sound” in music from 1965 or so into the early 70’s and totally related to the counter-culture movement centered there. Much more so than his band mates.
Yes, this is folk music, an homage to that time and place. JPJ ( the Swiss Army knife of musicians) on mandolin.
One of my all-time favorite songs from a legendary classic rock band with a tremendous catelogue. Always loved Zep doing a great ballad, and amongst the band's ballads, this is one of their very best, IMO.
Such a lovely song and then the track that follows will blow your minds. I remember hearing the album for the first time in 1971 and you just never knew what was coming.
I grew up with this band and they were the best ever. Period !
Yes I've always loved this light mellow song. I also love the placement of this song on the album just before my favorite song "When The Levee Breaks", the contrast between these two songs makes the already heavy blues Levee sound even heavier.
Zeppelin "Kashmir - Live at Celebration Day" is the bomb 💣
“ Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” is another acoustic masterpiece.
Well, it’s partly acoustic! 😉
@@helenespaulding7562 I meant to type “ Battle Of Evermore” but had too much red wine 🍷 ffs 🤦♂️.
Zeppelin IV is total fire from the first note to the last!
these guys haven't ever gotten credit for their song writing skills...it is an incredibly well written and composed song...thanks for reaction...love them
WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKs is one of a dozen songs in my lifetime in which you feel like a group is taking music to places that haven't been visited before, the next level. Looking forward to that one. my favorite.
No one can define their style. Unique And Robert P. is out if this world.
The GOATS...PERIOD🤷🏻♂️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
From the same album, another gorgeous,. hypnotic acoustic number is "Battle of Evermore." They used their only "guest vocalist" on it, a beautiful singer named Sandy Denny.
Saw Robert Plant on his 2018 tour and he did this song, one of the highlights, almost surreal.
You should always endeavor to listen to their live performances. The studio versions have perfect acoustics and mixing, but the live performances are all unique with solos that are never the same, showing the depth of their virtuosity
A MUST HEAR classic (& my favorite) Led Zeppelin "No Quarter" (Studio Version First)
Yes, John Paul Jones put down his bass and keyboards and plays mandolin alongside Jimmy on acoustic. Led Zeppelin is one part rock, one part Celtic Folk. Their albums all display the mantra of Jimmy Page of having light and dark on every album, Light and shade, as he calls it.
Thanks for doing my requested pick! I wanted you guys to hear the acoustic side of Zeppelin. They were capable of everything from very heavy to very light, very lustful to very loving! You’ve got a lot more to discover!
It was great! Thanks for the suggestion!
I think it's fair to say that there will never be a band that can compare to the stylings, talent, delivery and production of Led Zeppelin. I'm sure most Led Heads would agree 💯
Love this one! It's so lovely and tranquil and then it slips into those parts where it's about doubt and frustration and fear and determination. And then it feels so good when it comes back up to the happy place.
Free "All Right Now"...Nuff Said.
There is a cover of this by Heart on RUclips as well as several other Zeppelin songs. My favorite cover of LZ by Heart is probably "Battle Of Evermore" (and their Kennedy Center rendition of "Stairway To Heaven").
Arguably the greatest band ever....
Led Zeppelin The Rover!! My favorite Zep song…
Listen to it
On Led Zeppelin III there is a song called Bron-Y-Aur Stomp about Robert Plants dog Strider.Accoustic Masterpeice and and there are drums.
It was nice to hear a different type of LZ song. They were influenced by early American rock, blues, folk and jazz musicians. Many of the LZ songs are a fusion of these types of music, especially blues rock. I'm looking forward to the live Stairway to Heaven reaction. I don't know if this helps, but I heard many song reactors say if they pause a song a certain number of times and give comments, there are no copyright infringements.
A couple other mellow Led Zeppelin songs are, "Rain Song" and "Thank You".
theres a zeppelin song for every occasion the best part about the band to me such a vast catalog of different sounds
Really you just need to listen to this entire album Led Zeppelin IV. Its a masterpiece and on any short list for greatest album ever created. Every song front to back is a classic in rock history.
Robert Plant lost his son - wrote ALL OF MY LOVE - dedicated to his son - beautiful good song.
As you continue to explore LZ’s catalogue you’ll see it covers multiple music genres…
If someone asks me how old I am I reply I was in high school when led zeppelin was a band and leave it at that . These guys had the keys to the kingdom in the '70's .
i would just burst crying at 3:08, somehow that bit hits me like a train, always
When the levee breaks, hey hey what can I do, good times bad times . Some great songs
They did it ALL!! Try their live acoustic sets!!
I love their diversity
Yeah much better than the "diversity " of today
Thank You and Since I've Been Loving You showcases their versatility and talent.... try one of those:) Love seeing a younger generation appreciating the iconic songs of Led Zepplin:)
Kind of song you listen to while driving in a convertible with the top down, along a nice scenic drive
They did it all.
There's a great live version of this from a show in 1975 at Earls Court. Seen many reactors do it. Zeppelin always did an acoustic set during their 3 hour plus live shows. It gave Bonham a break. You will want to check out the live version of "In My Time of Dying" from that same Earls Court show.
Led Zeppelin - Dazed and Confused ...... an incredible rollercoaster song
Led Zeppelin - Since Ive been loving you ...... one of the most emotional
Another slower song of theirs is Thank You. The girl "with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair" is Joni Mitchell. She has a beautiful voice. You should check her out.
Thank you!!!! I have been listening to this great song for 50 years and now the lyrics make sense.
Love this
Hammer of the Gods !
Greatest most musicaly diverse band ever
One of my favorites, great live.
They would perform acoustic songs in the middle of their concerts, while sitting on stools…… just how you imagined this around a campfire. Please check out this song live.
Awesome choice !!
Please check out "Boogie With Stu", it'll make you feel like dancing 😊
✌️❤️🇨🇦
why wouldn't you want to watch this LIVE, it's spectacular and Jimmy is smoking hot.
Great reaction guys! So many different sounds from one band.
Same old story you guys have to watch the live version to fully enjoy this song. 👍🔥
Thank you. Love it. Great Led Zeppelin song is THANK YOU. It's a very lovely love song. These are 50 yr old songs. Timeless.
Timbuk 3 "Life Is Hard" (Official Music Video A MUST!!)
One of their best!
one of my all-time favorite led zep songs.
Rock gods, they where the biggest thing on the planet in their say, the live version of this is great .
Beautiful song ❤
The G.O.AT.S!
HEY PHIL, HI SAM! 😊 SO THIS ZEPPELIN SONG WAS INSPIRED BY ( JONI MITCHELL ) CALIFORNIA, WHICH COMES OFF OF HER 71 EPIC ALBUM ( BLUE ) GIVE A LISTEN TO JONI, MOST WOMEN WIND UP LOVINGGGG HER VOICE AMONG OTHER THINGS BUT ALSO HER WRITINGS ON HER SONGS, SHE LITERALLY WORD PAINTS 😊 ENJOY YOU GUYS!
You should've done the live version.
Percussion was made by the guitar. You can imagine drums behind it but don’t really need them or hear them. Geniuses
A couple of my favorite songs of theirs are D’yer Mak’er and Bron-y-aur Stomp. I like them because they’re hey are a little different sound from Led Zeppelin’s normal stuff.
It’s a guitar but there may be a mandolin playing also, I am pretty sure - listen to Robert Plant singing nowadays with Alison Krauss - yes, good ear! I checked the video and there is a mandolin pairing with the guitar
You will never predict what sound you’ll get or, where Zeppelin is going. Just enjoy the ride!
10 Albums and not 1 song sounds the same.
“The Rain Song” is one of the most beautiful song y’all will hear.
“All of my Love” y’all will get the 80’s Zeppelin. Most important, Plant wrote the song in tribute to his 4 yrs old son that passed from a virus in the 70’s.
Both are musical masterpieces!
The 1975 Earl's Court acoustic set is a must listen! The song does reference the earthquake they experienced *mountains in the canyon start to tremble and shake, as the children of the sun begin to wake* Also *Seems like the wrath of the gods* line! They were, as others have mentioned, paying tribute to Joni Mitchell! Jimmy and Robert crushed on her, but it may have been more in awe of her talent, fame, and charisma she sent out to the world during this time! She once praised LZ for being the only male stars of the time with the courage to admit they enjoyed her music!
Probably one of the only songs of theirs where Bonzo gets to go to the green room to sip on a few beverages .
In my Top 3 Zeppelin songs…… ❤️🔥🎸
Should have done the live version you could have seen the band perform
They do an excellent live version of this song at Earl's Court 1975.
The genius of Zeppelin..
Add You Shook Me to your Led Zeppelin future listen to list.
Great led zeppelin 4 album ...kinda greatest hits
You should also react to "Battle of Evermore" by Led Zep!
Beautiful piece 🤘❤️ try to find the woman thats never been born. 😮
Back then California was a wonderful beautiful place for free spirit minded people Not so much anymore.
Others have also said it here, "Battle of Evermore"
Definitely some psychedelic rock from greatest band from the 70’s
LZ crushing on Joni Mitchell...
My beloved JPJ non mandolin Jimmy acoustic and Robert's vocals no Bonzo here and its still good as hell, this song is about Joni Mitchell so i heard
Down By The Seaside, also nice.
The rain song is super melodic from Madison Square Garden
If y’all haven’t done the rain song yet , it’s definitely a must!!!!
back then i would of went to California to be with Joni Mitchell in a New York minute!
I second that motion. The live version is incredible and you get to see the 3 without the drums. Bonzo was silent.
What you may not know is that the The drummer in this performance is the sun Of their original drummer who died. So his baby got to play for them. obviously heart is always amazing, Ann and nancy wilson wilson have always been phenomenal. You should venture into the heart song book, It will blow your mind.
A haunting melody, & if one listens closely, one can hear Robert Plant trying to effect an American accent. Thanks for your reaction.
🤘🤘
Robert Plant is one of the top three rock singers of all time. His vocal and dynamic range is unmatched. I don't think there's anything or any genre he can't sing. When the Levee Breaks is an amazing song and I've heard some say it's their magnum opus and not Stairway. I disagree, but Levee is right there with it. The thing about LZ is that you can pick pretty much any song from any album and become a fan immediately.
I think the band feels Kashmir is their greatest track. At least Robert feels so. I adore Levee and Kashmir
@@helenespaulding7562 Both great of course, but it's definitely Achille's Last Stand that's tops for me. An absolutely relentless, monster of a song! OMG, those drums!! My second fave is Battle Of Evermore. Followed by Kashmir, then No Quarter and finally Stairway. They're my Top 5.
Most underrated - Carouselambra. Such a crying shame that Robert's voice was criminally buried so deep in the mix. Musically, it has an amazing, at times almost proggy feel to it. I'd give anything to hear a re-mixed version of that one with the vocals much more upfront.
@@paulr1193 Bonzo s drumming on Achilles is otherworldly. Very few otber drummers would be able to match him. The live version at z Knebworth just gobsmacked me. Battle of Evermore is another favorite. Probably , 50 years ago, my favorite, as I loved folk music. Over the years I’ve grown to e joy others more, but it’s still top ten. Also love Hearts covers of it.
nice! check out some live versions of zeppelin .Do stairway to heaven live Madison Square gardens and Since Ive been loving you Live MSG. and you can even find this song live if you look around.Youll get into rabbit hole you can get out of.If you think you can handle it do MSG Gardens Dazed and Confused Live..Jimmy goes on one of the most epic guitar Solos in the history of music.its about 20 minutes long but worth it.
I must say, the zep songs I gravitate toward are in this vein. Battle of evermore, the rain song. Not to say I dont like other songs, these just have a lovely vibe to them... also, for more of a folk vibe there is bron-y-aur stomp
LZ has quite a few folk songs. I suggest you check out The Rain Song (studio version)
Yall need some zeppelin drum solo. Moby Dick. You guys will love it
George Harrison of the Beatles told Zeppelin they couldn't do ballads so Jimmy and Robert wrote 'The Rain Song', as great a ballad as any the Beatles wrote. If you like this softer side you MUST listen to 'The Rain Song", it has a full orchestration much better than this song even. There's also a great video to it from their concert film; The Song Remains the Same' With Robert riding mighty steeds through medieval castles to rescue a beautiful maiden from the evil men with swords, although it's difficult to find.
Unbelievable performance!!!
George Harrison can't have listened to any Zeppelin albums then. They did ballads before The Rain Song.
👍👍👍👍👍
