What impresses me the most is despite the speed and agility of the mech units, they still have the feeling of mass and momentum without feeling either "floaty" or "sluggish". A subtle but absolutely impressive achievement by the animators and artists to hit that sweet spot, imo.
Agreed. We also haven't seen too much gameplay of a really heavy-style tank mech. Betting that will feel really substantial compared to these lighter, boost-focused mechs we're seeing right now (makes sense to showcase those early on, makes the action more frantic and flashy).
It'll really come down to the customization and controls. Traditionally you could spec out a really lightweight scout AC or a beefy tank AC that moved at a fraction of the top speed.
What speed? It's slow AF.
@@benjaminbeltran7004 mean sure it’s not AC:FA but I think most can agree that AC:FA while fun was also too fast at times.
@@salmon3669minecraft If you were built quick enough you could outrun the lockon despite being in someone's sights the entire time. It was too fast for its own good, in some ways >.>

You saying this will only perpetuate the cycle!! 😄 Nice video, got me interested in a game I had no intention of buying. Gameplay looks way slicker than I expected from mech combat.
lol it worked so well for a moment I thought that sound came from the gamplay
I swear the 'most replayed' section is always just the spot the audio peaks the highest on every video.
@@AvenirRacing actually I don't think it has anything to do with the audio, rather that it shows where in the timeline that the most people have clicked on.
THE FUCKING PIPESS
For people that are confused why I'll occasionally draw comparisons to Souls:
a) My audience consists almost exclusively of "souls" fans
b) From Software developed the "souls" games, AND Armored Core
I thought it was obvious but these things make the souls comparisons extremely relevant. I'm not saying Souls invented these mechanics..I'm just drawing an extremely relevant comparison 🤷♂️
🏖
Wheres my dodge-roll at Vaati?? :P
I understand that, but you also have to understand /acknowledge that you have many subscriber's under you (majority newcomers) Which means you have high responsibility to make sure you educate em well/right. Just be more careful on what or how you phrase stuff. Now and days people always be thinking soulsborne invented everything when they see certain similarity in their games or from others.
"I thought it was obvious but these things make the souls comparisons extremely relevant."
You expect far too much from RUclips comment sections...
@@wassnsoun I mean, he could have the courtesy, responsibility is a strong word for a RUclips video, he's not obligated to do anything. I'd argue people have the responsibility to not take everything they see at face value and do some research on their own.
The animation details on how the mech moves are insane, the puffs of smoke after boosting, the dust and small brace before landing, the sparks trailing as th set boost along the ground, it’s incredible.
At what looks like 60fps, too. I can't wait to see how absolutely stunning the MOONLIGHT and the Karasawa look with these next-gen particles, after seeing how the energy sword has changed.
It's so fucking good, I'm so hyped for this, I really hope we see a bit of a mecha revitalization come out of this!!

The fact that you were able to analyze and memorize this much about the HUD during a live demo is extremely impressive. Mad props.
came back just to see the HUD and he really nailed it
Love this, the hard lock and soft lock both being their made me happier, I was a little mad at first about the soft lock being gone but yeah being able to change it up as needed would be great. Another thing I wanted to call out was the gates thing has been a thing in AC2 and 3 where you sometimes have to wait at a gate while it's being "hacked" or "getting clearance" or some other shit indicating it's loading the next scene in missions
scan function was in V Verdict day, the swords always had both hands, and 3 had moonlight which had special fire control systems for dual moonlight but you had to unlock it through some special thing like it was a mission you had to complete a specific way.
It doesn't seem like you can change it as needed. Like it seems like it's basically required. Honestly doesn't seem necessary to be in the game. My personal opinion

This looks like such a satisfying power fantasy once you git gud. The aesthetic is also giving me NieR Automata vibes
That boss made me think of Nier: Automata before I made any Souls association.
I mean... LOOK at that thing!
I made an AC that could complete entire missions with out touching the ground. To get it to fly permanently i used a calculator to figured out how much power it used and with the auxiliary booster part on i would slowly gain power. Only 2 leg's were power efficient enough and say goodbye to energy weapons.
I did something similar in ac3 for an arena missile only build.
This looks so polished and fun. I cannot believe fromsoft is banging out the tunes like this. We need to keep rewarding quality businesses with no predatory bullshit going on behind the scenes.
Yes, I really hope people support this game.
Meanwhile over at Blizzard: “So we canceled the main PvE content for Overwatch 2, but now you can buy a $15 PvE mission pack that you can only play as four select characters.”
FromSoft is probably one of the few AAA game developers left that take every project with care and creativity while delivering a polished amazing product always.
@@Osama-KIN_TMZ01 they blew up thanks to a game that while unfinished was still given so much thought and care to. Glad to see they stuck to their roots.
@@freshlymemed5680 I don't think so, while DS was its first big title, I don't think it necessarily put FromSoft on the big lights. I think the company truly went next level once Miyazaki became CEO after DS2 and later representive director in 2016. You can literally see the company completely shift in the way it interacted with its community and how it presented its projects and name brand. Then of course it truly blew up with Bloodborne, Sekiro and obviously Elden Ring.
the melee combat looks like it's got a lot of feel to it. that's an improvement from basically every mech game ever.
So you have never play armored core, your words indicate you are an idiot if not.
I LOVED melee combat in ZOE2. However Im not sure how much of it is nostalgia goggles.
Seeing the melee weapons having multi-hit animations is a definite improvements compared where previous AC games pretty much had it as a dash melee. I’m curious to see how it looks like dual wielding melee weapons, hopefully that’s still a feature here.
@@chronozorus no, you're right, those games were awesome. i think it depends on what you personally put in the "mech game" column and what you put in the "games with mechs in them" column. But yeah, if you're not too anal about the genre restrictions, there's tons of cool mech themed games that excel at all sorts of stuff.
@@migultantamco heck yeah. i looking forward to see how they bridge the gap between heavy feeling mechs and highly controllable, immersive melee combat. i mean, if anyone can do it well, it's From.

Vaati, I gotta give you credit. You are one of the very few youtubers who is a soulsbourne content creator who actually put time into the AC series so you can make really good analysis vids. That takes dedication (especially with buying the physical games Bless🙏🏾). I wish more RUclipsrs actually just played an AC game before making content
yep sick of seeing youtubers abd comments saying "oh this wil mean there will be secrets to fibd in the maps now" ..... the first ps1 game literally had AC parts thst can only be found by exploring the map 😂 they clearly never played
I really want to play this game now
Really? most soulsborne youtubers I've watched have gone into AC long before the announcement and even the Kings Field games.
I agree. I wish Vaati would actually put time and play AC and maybe then he will realise that the close combat in AC6 is improved DxM combat which itself was improved classic AC combat. It even has the same animation and arcade-ish feeling. Very unlike Soul's more precise and tight melee feel. This is the direction that we were expecting AC close combat to take had souls franchise not happened.
The bosses though are definitely souls inspired.
@Karl with a K I'll never forget how realistic I thought AC1 looked. Shit was almost scary lmao
This gives me incredible hope for this new entry in the series and I absolutely cannot wait to play it when it's ready. Thank you for the breakdown and recreation of the HUD to help get an idea of what it looks like.
Your videos got me even more exciting about the game! We respect your work on the videos especially the last one, which had over one hour of content, ngl i've been watching it for multiple days 😆 and im gonna try to complete some older Armored Core games!
Hi Vatti, just want to show my respect as it's not an easy work to play through all the old AC games and prepare to carry what you did in souls to AC series. As a huge fan of AC, I really appreciate to have you spreading the fun of this series.
i would've never gotten in to armoured core if it wasn't for vatti ( i love for answer and last raven )
I think the using all 4 triggers for firing all 4 weapons at once can be very interesting. It's basically like the game saying: If you want to use all the available ordnance at once, you need to sacrifice mobility! But instead of forcing it with some some of "debuff" it's a physical limitation on the player, which can be overcome with experience and skill. Not sure how that would work on PC though.
I imagine like with all the Souls games PC players will primarily be using a controller anyway.
Probably pressing a combination of keys like alt F4
@@Assassin5671000 Nah man. Throw your weapons on mouse buttons, you can do all four weapons with one hand.
We had that set-up in Phantom Crash and S.L.A.I. Loading up four miniguns for 32 barrels of death was quite fun I'm told... I went with chainguns instead because they were much easier to find in shops.
What's great about Steam is we can change the controls with a custom configuration if we don't like the default ones

Speedruns for this game are gonna be a treat to watch
I'm really excited to watch Dist's streams of this.
That and the absolutely busted builds people will make.
I love that they’ve made a new armoured core. It’s so nostalgic for me.
Going down to Video Ezy or Blockbuster on a Friday night and borrowing them over the weekend. Spending hours making my mech look super cool and naming my build ‘The Wasp’ with its black and yellow theme.
Eventually I’d buy my own copy. Good times! Excited to play in this world again.
it looks like there's added depth for blades and melee, which is a very nice thing to see.
Those AC animations look so slick. Just the biped landing on the ground after a jump is sending shivers down my spine.
I hope they returned the SEALION style hover legs. I want to see how they would animate a fully antigravity-based movement scheme with this... Well, what looks like basically infinite budget for the art team. I always loved those things, as terrible as their weight cap was, so seeing them with realistic gyroscopic motion as they move around would be a dream come true.
@@FelisImpurrator I haven't seen any sign of float legs as of yet - but they would be a welcome addition. I've been missing them since their last appearance in Last Raven.
@@A-0602 Absolutely. I've always had a thing for high tech options aesthetically and mechanically, so a lightweight energy weapons/hoverleg EO core with a powerful reactor would be my first choice given the chance. Wonder if there's a tuning mechanic like the classics, and if there's a reactor that's strong enough to fuel all that and the good old Karasawa/Moonlight...
@@FelisImpurrator I am giddy with anticipation. More than anything - I just want to explore the limits of what is possible in the garage.
@@A-0602 Oh, absolutely. I can't wait for the tuning - they always struck this perfect balance between sim and arcade for people who aren't into learning engineering notation just to tweak performance, but need more granularity.
Oh, and just checked the trailer in 4K. I believe they teased the hover leg in about a second of footage. It could be a tank leg, but hover legs tend to have more of a narrow, tall footprint like this one, or a spindly one, while tanks tend to be wider. So given the future setting and the presence of plasma rockets, I feel like I'm going to be eating great when this comes out.
As a "newer" Fromsoft fan, I've never had the chance to play the original armored core games, but this looks genuinely amazing and I can't wait to sink many hours into it.
as a Hardcore one, I can tell that I am as excited as you are !
This one looks by far to be the cleanest and smoothest with all the animations and combat.
I remember old ones give more the impression to play a tank on 2 feets rather than piloting a mech :').
But as the game progressed over the years I can see even today they conserved this Mechanical way of movement and not be a japanese anime mech that are ultra nervous, while making it more enjoyable to play and master.

The game play looks pretty engaging, but I have to admit I'm slightly bothered by how oddly weightless these mechs appear in motion. Especially when the armor cores are in flight. Little additions like subtle screen rattling, motion blur, and particles effects could make a big difference in making the game play feel more immersive. Hopefully visual additions like that are added later in the game's development.
@@Saru-yr3qk Bro.. Were your eyes open during the video? Did you not see the short maneuver thrusters for every little turn? The big fuck off explosion when you boost, the blurring and exhaust trail? @@ted7728 No, other companies that maintain their talent and leadership do the same. FromSoft will experience a similar "downfall" when everyone who cares is gone and the reputation they left behind is used to sell mediocre games.

@@KnightofLondorhard disagree
@@KnightofLondor I'd say it was more of a step to the side. It was their first truly open world game, which we all knew had to happen at some point. There were definitely some growing pains and some things that weren't as polished in comparison to Sekiro and Bloodborne, but that's to be expected due to how huge the scope was in comparison to all their previous projects. I'd argue it made up for it with the exploration aspect. But I do generally prefer the old approach of a metroidvania esque world of linear paths connected to each other at various points.
@@battleangel4833 I'd say we're in the clear on that while Miyazaki is still president, so ten more years? Also it's not like other companies haven't survived losing OG talent and continued to make banger after banger. Just look at Nintendo. The people who made Ocarina of Time are not the same people that made Tears of the Kingdom. As someone that works in a management position for a large company I'd say a lot of long-term success and sustainability comes down to company culture and policy, as boring as that is.
Talent is always going to come and go, the question is how does the company find and retain new talent of a comparable skill level? How does it train those new people? How much freedom does it give directors and creative heads? How much oversight is there and of what kind? How willing is it to take risks? What happens when a game does way better or way worse than predicted? Does either scenario completely change how the company operates and what it's plans are moving forward?
It’s a rare occasion to watch a video by someone with so much passion. I never played any of the AC games but I am pumped for this one, mostly due to this video. Great work 🙂
Same, my first look at the series was his last video, I probably won’t play the older ones, but I’ll get 6 for sure.
This feels like what From wanted to accomplish in the Arms Fort boss battles from ACFA & onward, and now they have the know-how and platform to make it happen. I'm really liking the direction they're taking with AC6, and hope they also still retain AC vs AC boss battles too.
I love how much more flair and flourish there is in this series now. The laser blades actually have some care put in for these combo animations. More use of color and light. And a lot more Impact in combat, from both player and enemy

Very excited for an armored core it’s been so long! Only thing I would like to see is a bit more sense of scale. Even though you are in a mech it all looks quite small. I hope they do some good angles in cinematic that make it feel large
This truly looks like the Armored Core they always wanted to make but where restricted by either budget or hardware. This looks incredible
u must be blind game looks like turd but then again very few animals actually play miyazaki trash
I wanna say mostly budget. Until the souls borne games popped off FromSoft was largely unknown. DS1/2/3 all have clear moments where you can tell the budget ran out and they had to salvage their work.
@@s_t_r_a_y_e_dSame with Bloodborne and Elden Ring. It often seems FS get a little too ambitious based on their time frame. It’s also why the DLCs are generally so good, they actually get extra time to work on and perfect areas that were *supposed* to be in the base game.
Edit: and the fact that they’re still better than a majority of triple a studios pumping out hot garbage every year makes me seriously consider what we could have had if AC and the Soulsborne games were given the time to perfect themselves.

I didn't know what to expect with Armored Core, but oh shit, I might actually like this. It indeed remind me of souls games in the way it moves.
I was instantly like "bit of both" aswell. While previously the enemies were usually other mechs instead of really big bosses it does really fit into the Armored Core universe to have megacorps and the like want to build the biggest strongest mech they can. I am liking the advancements they implemented such that you seem to be able to actually push mechs around which for the ones I played wasnt a thing. Gives more meaning to the mass stat!
Yeah, you can always tell from the older games they really wanted giant bosses, and they put them in when they could, but it was just not easy to do well back then. Like the giant monster thing in the end of AC1. It was just a scaled up AC with regular animations. You can tell the devs really wanted to give it its own moves and physics that sold us on its mass, but were technically limited.

Well, yeah. See 4A with the Arms Forts. Much prefer this implementation (generally) as the Arms Forts, while theoretically interesting, mostly were boring fights that you occasionally randomly too huge damage from outside your FoV.
Still reserving judgement for the full game, but the more I see of it, it seems to be Armored Core with the lessons we learned from making other games, which is generally a good thing. AC has never been a series with rigid formula anyway.
@@Phoboskomboa i remember 3 big bosses in AC3. Not in SL though.

The amount of effort put into this video, breaking down details and even made the mock up UI based on what you saw. You are the best!
now just gotta wait 2 more months
this is just amazing
The second build that the player used to finish off the mini boss and challenge the main boss with reminds me of Zone of the Enders, and the boss itself reminds me of Nier Automata. I can also clearly see the souls influence and lessons they've learned with the Soulsborne series.
I could not be more excited.
The art style gave me Nier vobes a little bit too
ZoE was a wicked game...one of the few games I bothered to play more than once after finishing it
That was my first thought. ZOE indeed.
We can only hope we'll get some zone of enders legs with a proper CockPit
Edit: Also that Nier comparision feels more apt for the boss than souls to me. Maybe it's just because of the contrast of how fast you're moving, but the slow speed and way more obviously deliberate movements seem way more inline with the huge bosses in Automata than souls. Might also just be because it's a mechanical design though, so it's movements seem less fluid.
It didn't show this explicitly but when he changed from Silver to Orange the weathering was reduced or nonexistent. I think we can now display whether or not our character is battle worn or fresh. Before you had to use decals for dirt and markings
Yeah you may be able to use a cleanliness slider. Real cool, especially for the mecha painters out there that like that sort of thing. That or maybe your AC starts scenarios fresh and accrues dirt/grime/marring as you go through the level.
I'm frothing in anticipation for an armored core. I love your videos by the way. Top tier information and details.
This was awesome, I can't wait, I've been wanting to play Armored Core on PC for a very, very long time, and now I finally get that chance. Thanks for the tons of details you provided.
This game looks absolutely incredible, and i'm incredibly excited for it
already pre ordered mine. we have 70 something days left!
I’ve never even been a bit interested in this game or it’s series, and that was ignorant on my part. I decided to just watch this and see what it was about and omg I’ve been missing out
@@MiuTakigawai knownit looks good but please stop pre-ordering, for most companies, pre-ordering just gets people to buy shitty games for 10 bucks extra. its a shitty practice that only exists for extra income and is rarely used to make the gamr better. In the older armored cores. The heads had different voices and coupled with the radar could change your lock methods, multilocks and stuff
Actually hated how in 2, your head determined the voice for your computer. Would've wished that was an option done separately from the mech customization like in ACV.
wasn't that tied to the FCS while the head determined how far it could utilize the lock on before it reach the FCS limit? something like the FCS could theoretically scan up until 500m ahead but your head could only go as far as 250m
i've forgotten about the voice though
Cool video. First time I've seen your channel. You did a great job
just watched the long AC video legit didnt know I would watch in complete but it was so entertaining to hear
Whether it's medieval fantasy or sci fi mech battles, Vaati can cover anything and make it interesting and engaging in a way no other RUclipsr can
Vaati is like the Internet Historian of games imo
It does help a lot that his favorite topic for content its FromSoftware's work..which I believe will be remembered as the some of the best game developers of the decade..But yeah..he does have a talent for content creation!
I know you're just trying to complement the guy, but that statement is really dumb. There's probably hundreds of youtubers who can make boring topics engaging. I'm willing to bet you know at least 2 more if you really think about it.

I'm in love with the impact sounds for missiles and the melee hits
Oh man that melee hit sound. *mwah* chefs kiss I love it
Love it how I can clearly recognise older AC parts, like the arms or back mounted energy cannon, that I definitly saw in Last Raven. I guess it will be easier for veterans to get used to the customisation and gameplay.
Can't wait to go back to one of the games from my childhood! Thanks Vaati for this video.
Recreating the UI was a nice touch, really well made and very informative.
Most enemies other than AC were incredibly simple and static in the previous titles, making it feel like a sandbox game. Seems like VI has improve onto that and make it more engaging.
The normals in iv just standing and shooting like nothing
There was an extreme contrast, at least toward the end of the PS2 era, between normal enemies and enemy ACs. Normal enemies were pathetic, trivial, and sluggish, but boss Cores were hyper-aggressive, ludicrously fast, and could wipe you so quickly that - at least by Last Raven - building defenses rather than prioritizing speed and offense was functionally meaningless.
Now it seems like normal enemies are actually a meaningful threat with complex behaviors and variety, while bosses have been slowed down and made more mechanics-oriented like the Souls games... With corresponding boosts to our tech variety. Things like the shield and its pseudoparry, the expanded dual lock-on system, staggers... Seems like AC is finally getting to be as complex in mission as it is in the build screen. And whatever machine this is on, it's running at a buttery smooth framerate.
@@FelisImpurratorthis is probably running on PC. Armored Core games have historically used a different engine branch of Dantelion rather than what the Soulsborne games used: said branch is much more technically competent(and given how long AC6’s dev cycle has been, it makes sense)
@@abeeocta2599 They actually react to you now and even attempt to dodge the missiles instead of just mindlessly walking/skating into walls
@@crimson-foxtwitch2581 If the PC performance is this flawless and consistent from min spec up, this is going to blow minds. I sure hope so, because AC looks like a joy to play at high framerates.
On the topic of having enemy blips on the radar, now I *really* miss Zone of the Enders. That game put rings around your mech to show enemies and incoming projectiles, indicating both compass direction and elevation because the rings tilted to show height. It wasn't super practical, but it *was* super badass.
I think you’re the first person here that’s mentioned zone of the Enders that I’m actually convinced *played* zone of the Enders. Because yeah the radar ring system would fit amazingly here
This looks incredible!
I hope you don't need to have played the previous 5 games to understand it, looks promising
You don't
This one is a world reboot so you're fine!
if anything the last two AC vids vaati made made me want to try the older games
no you have to play the previous 15 or I will sadly have to gatekeep you I'm very sorry but that's just the way it is
The previous games would usually reboot the world between gens. 99% they're doing that with this one.
This video is very well formatted and executed. Thank you for that, Vaati.
ok

Fantastic recreation of the HUD. Goddamn that was spot on.
Hi Vaati, I'm loveing your work and I would like to see a new anything soon!
It said toggle display with the Y button at the bottom on the status screen. That was usually the prompt in other AC games to show extended statistical information. I believe it's safe to say there will be a lot more info available on parts.
yaaaay i was so concerned about this. everything else just feels like it's one of the best mecha games ever made
i just finished the last armored core video and i'm blown away by the level of detail of the environment, i knew that the game would look good, but i'm didn't expect to look that good.
Hey Vaatvidya! Love your voice work for Zagreus in Hades
I am SO looking forward to this.
As someone who grew up with AC this is looking like a phenomenal modernization of the franchise. I felt a hard lock on system of some sort was inevitable but honestly I'm not worried. Can already see us blasting around out of lock only to quickly engage lock-on, unleash on an enemy, yeet them into a wall and then disengage to rush out and towards another target. VERY EXCITED to play and for a whole new generation of pilots to fall in love with Armored Core.
Yeah I'm not too worried about the hard lock on state. Its just good and familiar design at this point, and I'm willing to bet you can still lose lock to quicker enemies like enemy ACs.
As someone who is not an AC veteran but has played DS3 and ER aplenty, I think the soft lock-on will enable fighting bosses of scale without making the camera a hassle
I recall seeing in earlier footage that quick turn is still a thing. It's likely hard lock reduces your angles of movement, so soft-lock is probably still mandatory for evasive maneuvers.
I also think that in response, positioning and movement will play an even bigger role than before in your accuracy.
Also, melee is going to be a lot stronger now with this tracking. So we might see more melee builds which is good for variety.
Agreed. As much as I love old lock on system for armored core, dear god was it a pain in the ass trying to lock onto an enemy ac that was flying above bellow sideways and inside you at mach 10. I still remember the horrific days of fighting the man with 9 balls in the first armored core...
A carry over from Dark Souls 2. I think it's a welcome addition.
That cylindrical, puck shaped enemy seems to be some sort of a chest mimic. What leads me to believe that is that the player approaches it as if attempting to open it or inspect it but is surprised after it starts moving.
it looks like one of those drones from star wars
Makes sense because it drops into place as if it could be a supply drop. I feel like Vaati would have touched up on that though since he saw the actual supply drone get used
So there's definitely gonna be a poison swamp
Armored core fans may be upset but if this is a souls like then I can finally call the entire series: “Soulkiro Corden Borne”
I haven’t been excited for a new game in a while this is looking fun
I'm a little sad there are less part categories,
but I hope that means they added more parts to every other category to give us more fine tuning options.
I think It kinda makes sense all in all. Even enthusiasts rarely "upgrade" the standard radiator in a car.
Yep. They have made it homogeneous like they did with Elden Ring. I knew it.
@@kopaxson5202they supplement cooling when they add systems that are new heat sources though. Oil cooler, intercooler etc...
@@kopaxson5202 Yeah but even the weapons?
I mean, with their playerbase much larger thanks to the success of Souls, it was inevitable that they would dumb down AC to avoid overwhelming newcomers :/

i just want to say how cool it is that you recreated the HUD for us, thank you!
I am stoked for the part where you stagger them, and instead of just getting a critical, thats where execution starts (well, it also was in play to even get them staggered in the first place). The fact that you have to think about what cooldowns to save while still figuring out how to stagger them (part of strategizing and putting together your weapons and mech) and then whale with what you got and even have stuff to keep them in that vulnerable state reminds me so much of nioh's gameplay flow, your build and your resources to get them vulnerable in the first place and then execute on it with finesse, I love to see FROM doing a take on this kind of thing.
I was hoping that hangers and inside parts would make a return, but I am really happy to see back units and extensions make a return. Hopefully the Arena will make a return too.
I'm very interested to see some of the heavyweight parts. Maybe we'll see some as we get closer to the release date.
Overall I'm very excited about a new Armored Core!
I like the more "solid" feel of the combats here, each attack got more weight in it and matters, AC combats used to be fairly chaotic as you and enemies just kinda shoot all over the place.
