Flanker is so beautiful, my favorite plane of the patch! Phantom and Flanker is a decent comparison, because at 20% fuel and below the Flanker becomes absolutely goated in a dogfight, much like the F4E does at low fuel. At low speeds almost nothing will hang with it in those conditions. Oh and the SPO-15 signal strength and other missing functions have been reported, so we may see it in a upcoming patch.
The SU-27 flight performance is completely different if you play with Full Real Controls. Compared to RB where the mouse cursor flies the plane for you, the flight performance is night-day of difference. Still, the plane is REALLY sensitive to fuel load + armament. I noticed the SU-27 has an empty weight of 16,000Kg, 30:00 of fuel weighs 6,000Kg, and a full weapon load with 4xR-73 + 6xR-27 weighs 2,500 Kg. I agree with the fact that doing BVR should be your main priority in the Flanker, to get rid of your heavier weapons and burn some fuel before considering dogfighting someone.
I really wish that they would bring back RB EC. I like the looks of the game mode that you're playing in the sim with big maps, smaller scale fights, and no nametags, but I'd like to play it with 3rd person camera and RB controls. Anyway, I want to comment on the R-73 and the AIM-9M and how they match up. IMO the AIM-9M is the best fox-2 for both RB and SIM but for different reasons. Regarding flare resistance, the two missiles are different in terms of the techniques that they use to achieve resistance against flares. The R-73 adopts a field of view tightening technique to reduce the likelihood that the seeker will ever even see any distractions. The effectiveness of this technique diminishes with range to the target. IMO, for side and rear aspect attacks within ~1.5km the R-73 is practically the kiss of death and is extremely difficult to flare since the seeker is unlikely to even see the flares since it is just that laser focused on their engine. But beyond that range is it is about as easy to defeat as an AIM-9L. The other advantage of the R-37 is its thrust vectoring capabilities which allow it to make high off boresight attacks when combined with the HMD. These traits combined arguably make the R-73 the superior missile in a dogfight at those fisticuff ranges. The 9M makes use of a seeker-blinding technique. The missile is capable of detecting flares or other confusing heat sources. When it detects flares, it stops tracking heat sources and swaps over to using inertial navigation to stay on the intercept course with its target's last known heading. This persists until the extra heat sources have left the missile's field of view, and then it returns to thermal tracking. The takeaway form this is that the missile is practically immune to being "accidentally" flared in situations where the opponent's attention is elsewhere and they're just periodically dropping flares to cover their ass. The way to defeat a 9M is to continuously deploy flares to force the missile to stay in inertial guidance mode and then simultaneously make a hard turn so that you escape from the inertial guidance mode's last known heading. While doing this is costly in terms of flare count, it is easy to defeat a 9M if you know it's coming. As I'm sure that you noticed, the operative words are IF YOU KNOW IT'S COMING. Which brings us back to why the 9M is overall the best Fox2 in RB and sim. In sim it is the best because the missile is invisible. You don't know that it's coming so you don't know when to employ anti-9M countermeasures. You just have to guess when the opponent is shooting and pray that you guessed correctly. In RB's overcrowded shoebox maps, everyone just hugs the ground and dives into the furball. There are planes and missiles everywhere. Everyone is deploying flares periodically to cover their ass. There are just too many things going on to keep track of everything. The 9M user just needs to dive into the furball and vibe-check half the team. Where most other missiles would be accidentally flared by flares that were periodically deployed or deployed to defeat third party threats, the 9M ignores those flares and reacquires its target. In order to survive the target needs to identify the threat of the incoming 9M and drop what he's doing to employ anti-9M techniques. So in RB it catches people by surprise because of information overload, and in SB it catches people by surprise because it's INVISIBLE. I really hope that they tone down mulipathing to realistic values at some point. I've been told that it shouldn't be disrupting attacks unless planes are literally hugging the dirt at altitudes as low as 20-30m. Removing that safety blanket would kill the furball. People wouldn't be able to consistently hug the terrain with that level of precision and it would make rolling hills as effective as the mountains that you're fighting over. It would force people to spread out and stand off at ranges where there is room to employ notching and cranking against the radar guided missiles. I'm hopeful that the Fox-3 update might come alongside a huge multipath nerf since otherwise I fear that the Fox-3's might be dead on arrival since they'll falter just the same as Fox-1's against the current multipathing.
R and ER models were developed in parallel, for different jets. The R-27R was planned for the MiG-29, and the R-27ER for the Su-27. Development began in 1974, and testing began in 1979. Serial production of the R-27R began in 1987, the R-27ER in 1990. The AIM-120 was developed in 1979, testing began in 1984, and it was put into service in 1991. So technically it is possible to pretend that the battles are taking place in 1990.
The R-27 was accepted into service in 1983 and AIM-120 was accepted into service in 1991. And about the RWR, the Russian one did not show the exact distance between you and the target but it shows signal strength which can be converted into range so you know if the target is close or far away. And also the SU-27 and Mig-29 have bad flight models and are underperforming, these planes are one of the most manuverable planes in the game, yet their flight model sucks because of gajin.
Could you share your keybind layout? I havent played WT in sim mode, but this looks almost as detailed as DCS low fidelity planes (working hud and dials, all the acm modes, etc). Would love to fly some "new" jets that dcs doesnt have, but setting up the keybinds seem as daunting as when I started dcs
I don’t think the issue is people don’t like flight sims. It’s more the equipment you need and the time investment for it to be worth it. Playing air sims without a HOTAS is just not great. It’s better to just play the more arcade version with controller or M&K for most people without it
I really liked Su-27 before FOX-3. Dogfights feel different with it. But the main problem were always fighting with 3-4 enemies at the same time. Some people don't differ high maneuverability from high AOA. The first let's you dogfight with multiple enemies if you manage to save your speed. But high AOA only allows you to make a hard pull for sudden R-73 attack and you remain without speed vs a few more enemies who already run after you from the nearest field. The situation hasn't changed much since FOX-3 were added, but now your Su-27 fights being outnumbered, has bad RWR, weak radar and has no R-77. I can't see a single reason for it to be 13.3 in sim mode. I'd love to play it again. But now in current conditions.
I would agree with if you, if in the gamw radar wasnt affected by the ground. Everyone in sims this days hugs the ground for dear life, making BVR impossible.
Hey man im new to your videos but this was great information for me, because i was having a slightly tough time dogfighting in it, do u use a hotas or VR, and if so, how do u move your camera and still fly the plane so perfectly at the same time
Good plane and yes I believe I saw somewhere that the FM isn’t finished which I’m not surprised. From playing it I DO NOT take 10 missiles. 10 is just too heavy and i take 30 mins. The radar right now feed just like the MiG 29A radar just with 5 extra KM track range. I know the N001 radar is supposed to be better than the n015 (MiG 29A). For some reason they nerfed the radar in the ground. The flankers (su27 and j11) RWR is bugged. For some reason if a second target launches a fox 1 on you I’ve seen it doesn’t give a launch notif. Haven’t see this issue on allied jets but mainly on the Flanker.
@@ser43_OLDC I wouldn't say that the Su-27 is heavily nerfed compared to reality. The only thing that sticks out strongly is the rather odd behavior of the aircraft at stall speeds. It seems that this is not an airplane with a lifting fuselage, but a delta. The Su-27 should not dump so much speed in a stable turn, and should be more responsive at speeds around 250-400 km/h. Other than that, the flight model is fine. What the Su-27 is really crippled is her electronics. Radar should be able to detect hot fighter-type targets in HDN mode at a distance of 80-100 km, not 60 km. RWR is not as informative as in reality, there is no distance detector to the source of radiation of radio waves. Also datalink does not work (in reality, for example, it was possible to guide R-27 missiles with the help of AWACS or ground radars, or with the help of radars of wingmen). The built-in jamming system does not work (the MiG-29SMT also lacks it, although it's the main feature of later Soviet fighters).
War thunder sim is in a weird spot. War thunder is mostly for non sim players. Most sim players play DCS or IL2. Realistically, the people who play wt sim are those who can't put in either the time, effort, or money into a more realistic sim like DCS. war thunder sim doesnt get view for 2 reasons, one is like you said, not many sim players, the other is that its actually cheaper to get into dcs if youre interested in jets, which is also a better sim. always makes me happy to see a russian player actually play their plane right, too many give up and assume they have to do something the plane isnt good at. as someone who plays dcs, where the r27er is used into amraams, i wonder what gaijin will try to do to give the russians their same fighting chance. personally i think amraam vs er is fair, but not if the numbers in the game work out like this, with americans outnumbering the other factions by the max allowable amount at all times.

Still dont know where is the fun in flying in ARB...you just point and the aircraft do all the job fir you... basically no need of situational awareness and 30 secs battles...i had a friend that is the game 10 years ,has top tier with swe,us and ru and didnt even knew that WT had IFF...ARB is at a point where doesnt even miss the aircraft capabilities...i see no difference from arcade rlly...
I think is great in dogfight instead, i only fly it in sim ,and i always have so much fun ,tell you what ,if the pilot is skilled enough the plane can give hard time even to gripen in dogfights
Agree with what you say and especially annoyed with the issue that radar missiles have when it comes to hit low flying targets. I think gaijin should really address the problem, for SIm at the very least. I also agree withe verything you say about USA dominance at higher tiers and the need to incentivice players to try out other nations.I would spam this video everywhere, personally. You summed up everything important.
i dont know bro the flanker can fight alot of things given the right circumcstances, its all about when you're gonna switch SAS off and do a cobra on somone to launch an r73 at his ass, works wonders
Fun fact, if you’ll turn SAS off and won’t touch elevators at all then this plane will be circling while maintaining its rate speed = 650-700kmh(rate speed in this game for the flanker) I found it very cool and funny
You also need to consider that they dropped the F-16 in like 3/4 of the nations and the Russian jets in what in the other 1/4 of them(not exact but just a round idea) Gaijin flooded the nations with the F-16 that patch for sure so what did Gaijin think would happen. Gaijin thinks but doesn't think the whole thing threw and that's why we have so many problems in WT. Russia should have an advantage they have the 2nd longest AAM in the world beside China taking 1st but War Thunder hasn't reached this far yet. For sure they will start busting out other Russian AAM that will out distance the American Sparrow at some point but this ERA of WT this is what they give us players to work with and Russia takes the cake on visual range dog fighting for AAM for sure but again like said in SIM that's a different story. So Gaijin is going to do what they do and that's the business of making money first and trying to please its customers with what can profit them first and for the Air to Air stuff they will put in the least amount of what they can to try to balance it but again money talks. This is just a game all this stuff really isn't what it real is like IRL and tey will make it to there standards not real life. But some good points made in this video nice work and points made👍
you should NOT dogfight in su27 if you low skill player, as in any play. If you know what you doing, you will win in su27 all jets, grippen is only plane (and mb F16), who could win you in a dogfight
Well, top tier NATO team rn basically looks like that - 30% f-15s, 30% gripens and 40% f-16s, so you have a little chance to win against f-15(only if he’ll make a mistake) and no chances against f-16 and gripen(and that’s very confusing but gripen with its 0.9TWR at the lowest fuel and without any missiles but basically ~0.7-0.8 TWR with min fuel and 6 missiles somehow outrates su-27, f-15 and f-16C in both vertical and horizontal rate fights)
@@СергейНикольский-я2цBro, just don’t put yourself into a situation where you have to dogfight. If you lose in a su27 to a f15 I’m sorry but that’s 100% a major skill issue and even in a dogfight it’s not that hard to win lol and outside of a dogfight you dominate the f15 at literally everything in a air rub match. The gripes and f16c however might beat you in a dogfight but all you have to do is not be stupid and engage them in some kind of energy fight where they excel and use your missiles and team

Hope you show us some gripen gameplay in sim
Hey what software do you use to produce your videos
OBS studio to record and VideoPad Pro for editing
How is this guy turning at Mach 1.2 and not blacking out, but I pull a 7g turn at 800kph and my pilot immediately blacks out
Gotta rank up the pilot, done ranked my pilot to 75, he prolly has an aced pilot
I agree entirely. I rinsed a SU-27 today with a STOCK F-15A in Air Sim today. With an Xbox controller. I’m new to Air Sim AND the F-15A 😂
How do I Turn on those HMD circles in SIM? They don't appear for me, makes it hard to get locks in HMD
They should appear automatically when you turn on a ir missile. However you can get to hmd mode by cycling through the ACM modes.
@@ccclll987 it doesn't appear at all
@@brick466are you using ultra low quality
Should i bring 20min or 30min fuel for air rb in the flanker?
full fuel
Still dont know where is the fun in flying in ARB...you just point and the aircraft do all the job fir you... basically no need of situational awareness and 30 secs battles...i had a friend that is the game 10 years ,has top tier with swe,us and ru and didnt even knew that WT had IFF...ARB is at a point where doesnt even miss the aircraft capabilities...i see no difference from arcade rlly...
ARB is indeed a shit hole but at least it gives more reward than AAB, and I tried sim but there's a small issue, I'm playing France.
@@Epic_candle oof baguete is horrible until you get to top tier in SB
Could you not kill me next time

please play dcs... its a bfm monster!
Me and my a10 hardly fly over 100m from the ground on any map😈
Honestly a shame you don’t have as many subs as toastman because he’s genuinely annoying to watch - the amount he moans is unreal 😂
Goof stuff keep pumping. How you like f15
Working on the F15J right now 🤫
I think is great in dogfight instead, i only fly it in sim ,and i always have so much fun ,tell you what ,if the pilot is skilled enough the plane can give hard time even to gripen in dogfights
No.
I agree mate... Flight sims the best...
I'm really tired of losing every Sim Battles match because the teams are always heavily stacked for the US team.
i dont know bro the flanker can fight alot of things given the right circumcstances, its all about when you're gonna switch SAS off and do a cobra on somone to launch an r73 at his ass, works wonders
