Another ex drummer here. I don't think a lot of non-drummers will fully comprehend the technical difficulty of playing that groove correctly. I think he modified the hi-hat pattern (more emphasis on the downbeat, less on the upbeat) but I don't think he made it any easier for himself. I played this song with my band in the early '80s. No comment on whether I played it correctly. 😂
as a drum teacher ive seen kids with natural talent like that, i myself did it for my first exam back in the day but its all rythm imo the combo's and the fills arn't that hard tbh. But its so very important to time it right or you fck up the entire song because the timing is so important not just for the flow but for the sound aswell. as drummers we were ment to be the beat maker the rythm nothing else but barracuda showed that drummers are even more important

So many drummers on RUclips flailing around with their sticks, executing fills & cool grooves etc. but unable to match this guy's precision.Believe me, I know what that's about, lol 😐. But this is for me what actual professionalism looks like behind a drum kit. And that's why Sugarfoot Moffett is one of my all-time favorites. Not even a huge MJ fan but I could watch & listen to Sugarfoot play all day. MJ and Heart were clearly worlds apart in genre and I have no idea who Jacquez's influences are but for some reason this comparison came to mind.
Mallory's the Princess of Rock Guitar. Good performances all around - Heart's a very tough act to follow, one of the top ten vocalists and one of the top ten guitarists, but the kids nailed it. It's amazing that they can take a group of kids, most of whom won't have played together until a couple weeks before, and be better than 90% of professional bands.
This original riff is the product of much experimentation in the early '70s. Jimmy Page and a few others were the instigators. So great that the music is still getting traction 50 years later.
Mallory's smile at the end says it all. Everyone is really good, but Jacquez and Mallory are absolute standouts. Also a word for the professional quality of the filming and directing of the video.
Agreed, she has just the right amount of "roughness" in her voice. The other girl, while she performs great , has to "soft" a voice for this song for my liking .

Very few vocalists can match Ann Wilson in her prime, Pat Benetar and Beth Hart and of course Grace Slick being exceptions, as Wilson has amazing range and amazing strength. A lot of very successful female vocalists could not match Daniella's and Memphis' performances here, they just have different strengths.

Back in the day, yes, now, age has that penalty, heard them a couple months ago, tired, short stroke vocals, put these kids in across the board, a good feeling to see the young ones with the energy to make it live.

You'll need to check out the precedent-setting all-girl rock band "Fanny." I only saw them perform live once, at the Troubadour, so long ago. They were smokin' hot! All grannies now. Also check out Zepperella, a serious Led Zep tribute band touring now.
Mallory gets some awesome sounds out of that guitar. Some are subtle, some are not. And she knows which sounds should be subtle and which ones should not. That howl and vibrato that she gets out of the harmonics is awesome, I love it!
Mallory has come into being since I saw her the last time. She's made a very good guitarist and I'm impressed with how much she's improved. She doesn't appear to be as shy as she was when she was first playing in these videos. With experience comes confidence. Rock on, Mallory!

Normally I don't like covers but after discovering these videos about 6-7 months ago the School of Rock is so amazing. They try to keep their covers as close to the originals. This song originally came out in 1977 during my youth. You all did great. I hope Ann & Nancy Wilson have seen and heard this. These kids are so amazing.

The drummer did do a great job except the bass drum was wrong but it was close. It's not an easy beat to do throughout the song.

Awesome groove and feel. They really were in the pocket. Sound was great too. Drummer played like a pro. Very important to have an awesome drummer for this song. The whole band was awesome.
