Well done mate. simple clear and to the point. I was on the verge of spending £200 to replace my leaking mixer tap. I then watched your video, and thought that's my issue and I can do that. Removed the valve then located the correct replacement as there are several variations in size. I then put it all back together as per your video, and Now have a non leaking tap. Top Man.....
A pleasure to be of service 😀
now THAT is a precision piece of information that I needed. Simple clear and now gives me the confidence to do the job. [as an electronics engineer, I have no fear of electrics jobs, but water scares me!]
I'm not a trained plumber....
Maybe not but your vid is x10 easier and clearer than someone who is...
Thank you! I enjoy making these videos, just wish I wasn't home schooling or I'd make more.
Word to the wise, there are different size tap cartridges, take out old one and measure up before ordering, most sites selling these tap cartridges will also display size and spline counts.
If you have ring spanners then use a ring spanner that fits, lot easier than an adjustable,
Also you may find just a good clean of the ceramic discs may stop the leak . its simple to do. No tools needed for the cleaning
Bit of silicone greese for lubbing the ceramic discs if you have it,
Take tap cartridge from the tap, on a clean work surface take the cartridge apart by first removing the circlip on the stem with the splines, should be able to push it of, don't lose it, next at the bottom of cartridge remove the colored washer, use fingers should come away easily.
Before proceeding look in through the bottom and take a pic as the disc needs replacing the same way.
Gentle and slowly push on the stem and the ceramic disc will fall out, you donot need to completely remove the stem,
Examine the disc surfaces, if there are any scratches on the discs then you need new replacement cartridges
Hopefully the surfaces will look unscathed, with warm soapy water and sponge or tea towel clean both discs, careful not to scratch the sufaces, you are ready to reassemble the cartridge.
At this stage if you have any silicone grease a dab on the surface of the disc will help but you may get away without it.
So resemble is reverse of taking it a part, take cartridge body, grip the stem and pull it up firmly, the reccess for the circlip will be visible, re attach circlip.
Turn cartridge upside down, looking in side at it you ill notice 2 groves, on the disc you will notice the discs have 2 small bits that will sit in the groves of the cartridge, the first disc should have a slot on 1 side which will locate on a raises bar on the bottom of the stem, if you have some silicone grease apply a little on the remain disc, making sure you have it the right way round, line it up with the internal groves in the cartridge, now reinstall the bottom seal press in firmly to seat it properly.
Check it works fine then reinstall at test,
7 out of 10 times a good clean will stop minor dripping
I cannot thank you enough... At a time that I really needed this, I stumbled across this video and cancelled the plumber scheduled tomorrow @ £120.... I have bought and fitted this for a grand total of £15
No worries,glad I could help!
Very helpful. It took two doses of different descalers and a ring spanner to get the valve to budge. I went to a plumber's merchant who had a box full of different types and we found the nearest fit. Works fine.
Thats great, well done, glad the video gave you the confidence to do that 👍
Nice, precise, simple.
No masive elaborate unnecessary talk through 👍
Thanks Nigel, thats what I was aiming for!
Excellent information in a short and smart way. Thank you so much.
Glad you found it useful!
Great demo. Clear and easy to understand
This simple tip saved me a plumber’s visit during the lockdown. All I needed was a bread knife! The leak had been going on for months!
I an going to bring out more straight forward videos along these lines. If you have any suggestions let me know.
Brilliant! Glad it helped you out!
Short & to the point 👌🏾
Thanks for this video. It helped me fix my leaking tap. Instead of replacing the cartridge I took it out and soaked it in some descaler for 1/2 hour and replaced - works like new now. Also with my style of tap (that looks similar to yours)there was a small round cover on the base which needed to be plucked off to reach the Allen bolt to remove the tap cover.
OK, glad you got it sorted and good to know about the descaler!
Thank you for that, I had some descaler it worked for me too.
Greeting from Albania and Kosovo.
Tonight i am going to fix my mixer tap.
Thank for your video. RUclips have made life easier and have made the world together.
🇦🇱👍🇽🇰
Many thanks - simple clear and to the point. I really appreciate your time. Cheers
Well done mate! Very simple to follow through. :)
Thanks... you've made this job look so easy. Had a leaking tap for months. If only I'd have known!!! 👍
Brilliant, glad I could help!
Great info, well presented. Just what I needed. 👍
Some older houses do not have isolators. Draining down the system for a couple of valves is a longer job but do-able.
Yep agreed, draining down is a pain but doable. Maybe once you've drained down, fit isolation valves for future use.
Great video. Simple and helpful. Thanks
No problem
Clear concise and precise, thanks a lot!
No problem, glad you liked it!
Thanks very much for the demo.
Great video, many thanks.
thanks very much, excellent video.
Very good clip, extremely helpful.
Really useful video - thanks! Note, knowing which replacement valve to get can be hard as there are slight variations available (Screwfix have about 4) even if it is a bit longer or shorter than your current one it will still work.
Thank you , thank you ,thank you had no clue how to get to the valve until I saw you video x
Hey Catherine, no worries, glad it helped 😊
Excellent, and so clearly described.
Thank you!
Aaaahhhhh. Lifesaver. I hadn't even realised the cylinder screwed out to reveal the Allan key slot. Kitchen tap has been loose forever. 5 minute fix. Hardest part was finding the right Allan key. Thanks so much. Every day is school day.
Tony, thats great, glad it helped you out!
Marvelous. Thank you very much undeed.
WOW I found the excellent video.
Thanks ur video help me a lot
Simple when you know how. Thanks for your video.
Can't get the handle rod out. Any ideas?
+geoff ward WD40 and wrap a bit of rubber around it... then gently use mole grips to loosen it... the rubber should protect the handle and help grip it
great one many thanks!!
Great help, thanks. 😁
Simple, easy ro follow instructions. nice one
Glad you found it useful!
Excellent video. Thank you :)
No problem, hope it helped!
Solved the problem and nice and easy to follow. Thanks very much

Thanks simple and helpful
Amazing so simple n clear. Thanks
No problem, hope it helped!
Great help. Thank you very much👍
No worries 👍
Good video, managed to do all in the vid before watching. However, when I unscrewed the cylinder to get at the grub screw a little black rubber washer appeared and I don't know where to put it when I reassembled the tap . Now the cylinder and the housing keeps coming loose after a few days use. You didn't show that bit in your video. Any advice?
Hi where do I get the valve from please? The video was very helpful so thank you for uploading it. Much appreciated.
thank you so much - made it look manageable!
No problem, glad I could help!
Thanks for your help . You’re a legend.
No problem, glad I could help!
Informative and useful. Thanks
No worries, thanks for watching!
hi nice video .
But my tap has just one lever that controls hot and cold and my leak is coming from the bottom of the tap where it meets the basin .What should I do please .I find that no video highlights this type of leak but just leaks higher up the tap etc
cheers
Very helpful. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've had a quote for dripping tap of £100 lol Gonna do this myself 👍👍
You make it look so easy !
Just make sure the water is off and you can take your time doing it.
Wait til when you turn on the water you find the valve leaks, so it needs replacing. When you try to isolate the supply at the stopcock you find its seized solid.
Hadn't realised it was that easy. Many thanks
No problem, yep its pretty straightforward, just make sure you get the right replacement cartridge.
I did the bathroom sink which was almost the same. Couldn't figure how to get the taps off in the kitchen sink. Once I find the right Allen key I will give it a go. So helpful. Being on pension not always possible to employ a tradesman for something that looks so easy. Great that people like you make these tips available. Many thanks
Hey David, no problem, you've just made my day!
Perfect.. Just what I needed and it worked great.. 👌👍
Happy I could help!
Great well presented video! Just as an over thought - how to identify which tap is dripping as both use the same outlet pipe? Thanks again 🙂
Thank you soo much for this!! Good video
No problem, glad you liked it!

No worries, glad it helped!
Easy fix - thanks!

Thank you very much. Good video. Simple to follow and exactly what I needed.
No problem, glad you found it useful!
Awesome video. Have the same tap and helped me allot
Glad the video helped you out!
Hi thank you for this video, reckon you just saved us over £100!!!!
Cool, glad I could help!
Thanks boss, got the same tap, hopefully I can apply the same method.
Good luck with it, just be gentle removing and putting the valve back in as its fairly easy to strip the thread.
Hi I need to fix a dripping tap identical to this what are the replacement cartridges called what model no etc
cheers that's all I needed thanks
No problem, glad it helped!
Hi I have same mixture in my sink the I m having is top bit falls off everytime the water pressure goes
what size box spanner do i need? is there a standard size?
What is the pin call from which you opened the tap?
Great Information.
Thank you 😊
How to order the valve?
This is great help to me as my tap is leaking.
How to find out Hot or cold is dripping?
Tks a lot.
Thanks, very concice clear explanation
You are welcome!
Good job
Well done thanks sir
Thank you!
THANKS A LOT ! GOD BLESS ! :)
Watched your video, got the valve out with a bit of grunt, it was well secured in there. Found a replacement ready to order then put the original back in....and it's stopped leaking! Well....at least I know which one it is if it starts again.....
Yep, its pretty clear if you follow the steps. Hopefully all is dry and not leaking now. 👍
Brilliant thank you :-) 👏
No worries, glad it helped!
Thank you
Good video I have these sorts of taps and after removing the grub screws I cannot get the taps off to replace the new cylinder's.
Exactly same problem. Reluctant to use brute force.
THANK YOU!!
No worries, glad you found it useful!
Your a legend bro
Thanks man! 👍
Thanks clear and concise, just one point, rather than replace whole cartridge wouldn’t it be easier to take off old washer at end of cartridge and put new one on? I imagine it would be a lot cheaper and you could do as you did for cartridge and take old washer along to plumbing suppliers to get new one the right size.
Yep, thats another way if doing it!
This video just saved me a £100. I struggled to find a replacement core for my tap but did learn to strip it down. Sprayed the interior and ceramic with limes cake remover. Put it all back together and the dripping tap stopped
Hey Kevin, thats brilliant 👏 more videos coming in the New Year. Any suggestions of DIY jobs for videos I'd love to hear them!
Great video. Is the left hand one (hot) a left hand thread...mines not budging at all.
The hot one will be the same screw thread as the cold. But the hot one will be more affected by the water... so probably needs descaling.
very good !
Thank you!
Can you post link to that valve you bought, as i am looking for one that looks like the same sink. Got all the tools via your link, but would be good to know where to buy this valve also
David, I cant I am afraid. I took the valve to my local plumb store and they matched it up for me. There are quite a few variations of the valve and so you could waste a lot of time and money trying to match it online.
Hope that helps.
Thank you 👍🏻
No worries 👍
Where did buy the replacement valve fittings from?
What size did you use?
Thanks,M
Hey Mike,
I just took the valve to my local plumbing merchant, they matched it for me.
Great help thanks. I have the same tap and removed leavers and the grub screws but how do you remove the chrome shrouds over the valves? Your video glossed over that bit! Are they just corroded with lime scale? Any tips? Thanks.
I suspect your ones are corroded on, mine just slipped off.
Did you have any joy getting them off? I have the same problem 🤷♀️
Did you manage to get your taps off? I have the same problem here, I’ve removed grub screw but they won’t slide off even with a whack or wedging the screwdriver to prise them off.
@@DjNemes1s No the housing cracked. Good video though and I learned my lesson - greasing the new tap valve cover to hopefully prevent future corrosion.
A great little video, 1 question, are the valves a standard size as in 1 size fits all. Many thanks in anticipation of your response.
Hey Debbie,
I am afraid they come in a lot of different sizes, best take the one you have into your local plumbing merchants to see if they can match it.
Hope that helps!
Richard
@@fix-make Will do. Many thanks for your reply and time.
Plumbing projects are my least favorite diy. Typically involve multiple trips to the hardware store. That being said I wouldn't dream of paying someone to do them for me.
I enjoy your channel and videos, keep on keeping on.
Hey Wayne, thanks for the support. Will keep on with the videos once my three children go back to school ( another week!)
The Wood Daddy how can I tell which side it is that needs changing?
Pn
@@olatomif9746 isolate one tap at a time. Whichever one stops dripping is the one you need to change. Failing that, check the temperature of the dripping water
mines not a grub screw when I remove the upright on the handle
When changing both valves on mixer taps do you need 2 different valves
I am not able to take off the handles on my taps to put in new ceramic valves. It has a small hole under the badge cover for a small allen key but have tried but allen key will not hold and turn just loose any ideas how to remove the tap handles.
You could try a different allen key, some of them are really soft and so round off really quickly.
My tap is very similar but I don't seem to be able to get the handle off. It comes apart in the same way but I can't find anywhere to put an allen key or a screwdriver
Hmm, thats tricky without being able to see it, does it just unscrew?
Yes the problem being there are many valve types. When it's out you will need to find a plumbers merchant with a correct valve.
Good video. How did you unscrew the handle?
My handle was fairly loose already
How do you know which side is dripping?! Also on mine the valves are recessed, you can't get to them with an adjustable spanner.
Can you switch off one at a time underneath the sink? If you can then you can hopefully see which one is causing the leak. If the valves are recessed you are going to need a socket set to get them out.
I have one issue. I am struggling to pull the cover out and can’t reach the cartridge. What shall do? Thank you.
Not all taps are made the same, maybe a little WD40 will help work them out.... just be gentle. The water deposits can make things clog up.
