My beans are coming in fast now. I’ve been picking daily, usually get a handful daily. And yay! I pick when the size of my pointer finger. But some get away and are really big. I’ve canned up 6pints so far. Our weather here in Michigan (Zone 6b), is changing…Fall is in the air. The nights have been cool now and days warm…beautiful days!! Everything is coming in now. My tomatoes are huge and juicy too….I’m loving it…
I mention snapping my green beans in the video. I've heard some people call that "Chitting". Do you have a different term that you use? 3 different videos watched and still no one can answer the main question: HOW DO YOU PICK THEM??!!! do u break the stem? Pull the bean from its attachment point? Snap the bean itself???
Honestly... I don't remember! I used up the last of the seed someone gave me. I just checked my seed stash and I don't have the package any more. I THINK they were some sort of a blue lake bush bean. But I'm not really sure. You might check out a green bean I tried this year that I really like. It is called Strike beans. I got them at MIGardener. They are a shorter variety and the maturity date was fairly short. I really liked them. They produced very well for me. The ones in this video got so big and unruly! haha, I should have trellised them better.
Informative. Thank you!
My 1st year planting beans. I'm glad i came across your video.
Thanks for posting.
You are welcome!
I’ll be picking my friends beans next week while they are away… thx for the tips 💜
very very helpful
Glad it helped. Enjoy your beans!

Yup pull the bean from where it is attached. There will be a tiny stem on the end of the bean that used to be attached to the main plant.
What variety is that? I’m trying to plan my garden based on canning and North Idaho weather 🥴

Do you cook your green beans before giving to the chickens?
I don't. But you could. There would be nothing wrong with cooking first.
