This has always been my favourite Revell kit, I love the real car and this kit is just a joy to build. I've built two GTs over the years and I have a Promodeler GT and an earlier Cobra in the stash. Unfortunately they have the incorrect parts but that really doesn't bother me so much. Great video Raoul.
I swear every time I start a new kit you upload a video of the same, or similar vehicle. I'm doing the pro Modeler kit right now... had to get the GT added to the collection. Keep up the great work my friend

Great kit review! Love the Cyclone conversion. I wish they would build a stock kit of it. I'll have to look into doing that trick since I have one of those Cyclone kits. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent info! I’ve picked up 3 new ones and I have 2 red gt pro modelers. Excellent information on using chassis & engine compartment for the mercury. That might make building one possible for me. Also, I have found both old cobra kits /(red & yellow) and the green gt kit as well. I wasn’t thinking I’d pick them up, but now I see I really gotta grab them @35 each.👍👍
Glad it was helpful! Funny but I originally only wanted to build the GT kit bash as shown but never did that one. Then I just didn't care much about the Cobra kit but at the time I could find them everywhere. So, I wanted to paint that Grabber Green and grabbed that kit. I really enjoyed building it!
Very good comparison of these kits. I really love the Cobra kit and would build it that way. However, the GT model is a great car too. Like you, i have always liked the hidden headlights and the long tail light. I really appreciate your in depth review.
Thanks for highlighting these kits. Great job on both cars. I have a hard time relating "real" modeling with sloppy worn out molds and ill fitting parts. U.S. model companies need to take a close look at Japanese model companies. I really hate that the U.S. companies look at the bottom line and not the quality although lately they are doing better.
Thanks! It's funny but that comment about "real modeling". Many modelers have different ideas on what that actually means. It all comes down to the skills of the actual modeler. A very nicely engineered kit that all the builder has to do is paint and glue it. Some say that is not modeling. But what is modeling? That builder can do amazing things weathering, painting, dusting, wireing. Those are skills too even though the builder didn't have to modify the kit and correct flaws on surfaces, make parts fit that just won't right out of the box or even kit bash 2-3 kits to make one subject. Other builders can make a model of something from scratch.
I love this kit Love the blue I bought 3 of them when they were first discontinued I wish revell would have also made the mercury and rancho versions since they already had a chassis to start with

Every time someone starts to talk about skill levels, I'm taken back to one of my first models, when i was in second grade. A Lindenburg P.T. boat, with electric motors. You actually had to put the motor together, wind the copper wires and magnets and all. What skill level is that?? I wouldn't try it even now! 😂
Thanks. I have been toying with the idea of spacing the videos out somemore. When I launched 2 on Saturday and spaced them 30 minutes apart the first video always fell behind the second in performance. Now doing one at 7 and the other at noon seems to help. Moving one to Sunday seemed to help. Instead of teasers that don't seem to do much. I have launched an occasional extra video like this and it helps the channel. Obviously, the more videos the better the channel does. I just don't want to put up random videos. Like throwing crap at a wall and seeing what sticks.
Great video especially the Cyclone conversion hope to see more on it as you finish it.. I just retired after 40 plus years in a Ford Dealership and was the only one allowed to work on one customers 429 SCJ Drag Pack Torino. My owned a 70 Cyclone Spoiler with a 429 C6 automatic..
Excellent comparison! These kits are so good! And I appreciate the Cyclone Spoiler info. I have been collecting all the parts to build one or two of them and what you've done tells me how to go about it. I actually owned both a 70 Cobra (429 SCJ with 4 speed) and a 70 Spoiler (429 CJ 4 speed) and plan on replicating both cars.
I used to own a 1970 Torino GT. The real 1:1 scale version. 351 Cleveland, bucket seats, console mounted shifter for the auto trans. Wish I still had that car. It even had the copper-bronze paint job!
Super cool! You know these cars are right up my alley. In 1:1, I have a '70 Torino Brougham formal roof that has the completely flat hood and hideaways. The plan is to swap those with my '70 Torino GT. So, I can put a $haker setup into that hood, and the GT hood goes on the Brougham. And the hideaways will go on the GT, but with electric motors instead of the vacuum setup. Trivia: Hideaway cars have a unique headlight switch that has several ports built into it that act as valving for the hoses involved. Lots of guys that rescued hidden headlights out of the junkyard did not know to snag those switches. Ouch. Not sure if they are reproduced, but I have some NOS ones. Two Cougars and the Spoiler give me a total of four flapper-light cars.
Cool. Both of my station wagons, 1970 and 1971 Plymouth Sport Suburban's, are real Hide-A-Way headlight cars. They use electric motors shared with the 70-72 Chargers as well as special wireing and circuit breaker/relay module. The motors fetch $600 or more in great condition. That combo relay is a few hundred as well. Reproductions were available at one time for $150 but have been discontinued! My parts car was missing both! My driver had a shorted module. I had figured out how to rewire it to use a modern 30 amp relay and a 30 amp breaker! It's not factory but works great. I had two motors, got them both rebuilt at $250 each about 10 years ago. They have limit switches in them that burn up then trash the plastic gear inside.
I had my own auto alarm/stereo biz for 35 years and I used to used linear actuators on custom rods to open trunk lids and hidden compartments and such. My old supplier is no longer, so I need to research current actuators and take it from there. West Coast Cougar rebuilds the OEM vacuum units, so it "might" be possible to find the seals to do that. We shall see. The headlight switches I mentioned before are indeed now being repro'd, so we'll see. Fun stuff!! @@TheMuscleCarModeler
I’ve built quite a few ‘70 Torino GT’s and have used them to “correct” the MPC Cyclone kit . My first one, the DonnieAllison Cyclone I used the AMT ‘69 Torino ... yes wrong interior/dash , but looks good on the shelf . I’ve two more Cyclone conversions one in CalipsoCorral the other will be GrabberBlue . I turned on ‘70 GT into a convertible , came out really nice ... trying to build one into a Ranchero too
Nice. I have been tempted to get a resin 70 Ranchero from Gerry Chevalier. How was the GT convertible? I have a resin 71 GT convertible from Missing Link. It is smaller and is meant for the 69 Torino as a donor.
Great video!, i totally forgot that the torino chassis fits under the 70/71 cyclones and i have a number of the Torinos with the incorrect body that i can use.Did you use a panel scriber or the back of an X-acto knife to remove the engine compartment?.
Since Revell Germany took over entirely and switched to the 5 tier parts count system their skill levels make no sense. Lol. You’ve got old snap kits that are skill level 4 for instance. Crazy. I’ve never built any of these Torino’s but they look like fun builds. I love the hidden headlight look personally. Really great review. It was cool to see all the differences and similarities. Hello...Just want to know you did a VERY great kits boths of them...but I like to let you know Revell forgot the put the front bench seat and they regular steering wheel to build the TWISTER versions...I see it here on RUclips when the Twister came out from the factory they only put a regular bench seat with a regular steering wheel back in the 70's....I seen it in the factory on RUclips....im doing that one right now with i just change the seat and the steering wheel and also I'm building the Mustang Mach-1 Twister too boths at the sametimes...I just waiting for my Calypso coral and my Grabber orange paint...I just want to let you know about that....keep doing great work
Thanks for the info. I found out some of this after I built these. I like to know the details but I don’t stress about them much. So I probably won’t go back and rebuild them. But if a Shaker hood and scoop become available in scale for the 70 Mach 1, I may do another!

Morning Raoul, Chris here…… I have the green GT kit & I want to use the rear louvers, shaker & shaker hood from the new Torino Cobra kit on my GT. I’m guessing the parts fit without any issue(s)…….before I buy the Cobra kit, will the parts fit? I imagine they would since the tooling is the same with the exception of a few new tooled parts…… thanks

No it doesn't. Lots of work to make it fit. It's too wide in the back and the windshield curve isn't even close. The front of the hood gets too narrow and is a bit longer as well.
Raoul, Chris again…… almost forgot, if I wanted to swap the Cobra engine into the GT kit so I can achieve the shaker scoop & shaker hood, I imagine that is a seamless swap too…….. is that correct??? Thanks
Yes. The engine is the same and only the air cleaner and shaker parts are different. You won’t have a problem. Others have said that it is hard to get the shaker to line up with the hole in the hood. I didn’t have that issue on both of my builds. I believe that only happens when the chassis or the engine are not glued in the correct locations.
I don't understand why do you put glossy clearcoat on those 60' and 70' cars. I'm 62 and remember that the cars then, did not have the so glossy shinny ones. And here in canada, nothing sell under $50 canadian
That is something I like to think about from time to time. Which 429 is the better motor? In stock trim as issued by Ford, The Boss 429 had trouble outrunning a 428SCJ Mach1 in the same year. It couldn't do it off the line! Just like the 426 Hemi vs 440 6pack! The 429SCJ was just as fast as the 428SCJ but was in heaver cars! The Boss 429 was designed as an all out race engine. So, with mods it was a lot faster. But so were the 428 and 429SCJs plus the SCJ's were cheaper to build than the exotic Boss 429. But race tuned Boss 429s and even 426 Hemi's were not very street able. All out drag motors made lots of power but overheated if driven for long periods of time.
I don’t make them and I really don’t know of any currently made. Missing Link Resin did do one like 20 years ago. It was a 71 Torino GT conv but did not use the new Revell kit. I believe it used the AMT 69 Cobra as a donor.
That is a trick question. They are from the original issues that were more stock, but the kits had some nascar decals and parts. Then they were reissued as more nascar racer and no stock hood and some other parts.

Wow! I remember building the visible V8 engine with my dad's help. It had the electric motor and switch to spin the crankshaft.

Thanks. Yes, I slowly scribed the inner fenders away with the razor. Just at an angle to give me the most mounting surface possible.
