Absolutely killer! We’ve waited too long for this beauty, & now we have it. The stock version is sure to please as well. Awesome job on your kit reviews. I can’t wait for your review on the MPC ‘78 Dodge pickup. Hopefully, Round2 gives us several versions.... short bed fleetside, 4 wheel drive, & earlier versions like the ‘73-‘77!
Loved the show, Always loved the way that special effects people made this car sound like it was a manual gear drive and yet it was an automatic drive. Had the slotted craiger's on my ss chevy.
I really Iike your high resolution close-up of the small parts! You also cover ALL the parts in the kit so there's nothing left in question. GREAT review! My only "want" for this kit would have been a set of stock wheel covers so the car could be built showroom stock. Thanks for another great review!
I love the proportions of the car, they are very accurate and I love how it's jacked up at the back and has fat tyres at the rear too. So much better than the Greenlight model.
This series of Ford 351 was the “Cleveland”. Big block with those valve covers. The “Windsor” was a small block same as the 289 and 302 engines visually.
I like watching your videos your good at what you do I have got a lot of ideas from watching your videos I'm a model builder myself. Keep up the good work my friend thank you
Cool I just got one looking forward to building it. One video I saw they said the instructions had you putting in the manifold I think it is, in backwards I'll check on that.
wow take me back, ran into David soil at a motorcycle race, in Riverside California, to bad that he and his friends got chased off by fans. Kinney Roberts won that day. good race. cool review. thanks for taking me back.
Thanks for the review Chris, I'll be getting one of these imported soon, I was never a real fan of the show but I always thought the car looked awesome. nice detailed review as always thanks mate.
Have built this kit and it's a nice car when finished. The only gripe is those stripe decals. Mine wouldn't fit properly to the extent that the right stripe now has a tiny hairline split in it regardless of how much setting solution I used
Man, I used to watch Starsky and Hutch as a kid. I remember there was a local Ford dealer that had a Torino painted like the show's car when it was popular. Don't know if it was a Ford package or just something the dealer did on their own. I think I might have to pick this up.
Chris on the Funky Sudpendiom Mounts ? I'm building 2 of these kits right Now. BTW 2 as TV Series Star w Added Details. And a Torino ,Elite/LTD. Styling Conversion. Anyway I took my Duspendion pieces with me into "ACE Hardware," to their Dpting Fisplsy board to get Springs dame diameter as those annoying posts You buy these Springs individually... They'll be longer tgan needed so you cut them with Side Dykes to Same length as your posts cut away you'll want to use needle nose pliers to touch up curl end after cutting but results are Awesome
Watched this show back in the day and happy there coming out with this kit. Good kit review Chris! Now if you'll excuse me I'm going out to get this kit. LOL.
I'm old enough to remember the car and the TV show, WCIX 6 usually had Starsky & Hutch in a block of action/cop shows way back in the day along with Berretta and the Barney Miller Show. Very good review!
That would be a good idea. However, not all air shocks had springs around them. So it's really your choice. I don't have a clue as to which type or types were used .
Just picked it up for $7.50 at hobby lobby. Like you said was worth it at that price for the wheels and tires. Though I think it’ll end up being a rat rod.
I just ordered two of these kits, from Model Roundup, and I’m only going to be using the wheel backs and the tires from it. I’m going to toss the rest of the kit.
Cool review. None of the model companies have tire lettering embossed on their tires anymore because of the royalties they have to pay to Goodyear, Firestone, etc. Which sucks because the decal tire lettering lacks realism. Still, a very nicely done kit. I'll have to get me a couple.
+Pvmntpndr66 Many of the AMT, MPC, Lindberg, Polar Lights kits and such put out by Round2 have tire lettering. They either will have molded in lettering or they will be pad printed which looks amazing and has tiny details. They have parts packs as well with period correct tires for Firestone, Goodyear, etc. Check them out. Revell/Monogram do not, as they do not want to pay the license fees you mentioned.
+hpiguy's Workshop ..I think AMT and those produced by Round2 are using the original molds for their tires because it's cheaper than retooling new molds. However I could be wrong.Lol
lol, Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas) was Snoop b4 Snoop was. Generally I'd say, we Brits loved this show, I believe David Soul (Ken) still lives in here. Man, you should see some of the UK comedy stuff he's done over here... crazy. Love your reviews, sir (very elloquent) Also... 3 attachment points for one of the wing mirrors!?!? lol, bonkers
Well, I'll surely be devoting a Hobby Lobby coupon to this one! Great review! Nice array of decals. I wouldn't build as the S&H Torino. But would use those wheels. Now why they have an air ride system in there I don't know. But I'd have to remove it. Looking at those front lower control arms, they're definitely showing the mount, so it will look odd when they're gone. The bags don't look good to me either. So they gotta go. I'm hoping someone has the story as to why they are there. Maybe it was one of those Hoppin' Hydro kits. I don't know. But it certainly won't stop me from buying the kit. Thanks for the precise look inside the box!
I had heard that some of the cars they used in the show, they had a 351 modified in them, those engines had a little more “Get up and go “ than the Windsor! I had a 76 galaxie 500xl that had the Windsor in it and My brother had a 77 cougar with the Modified in it, and he could smoke that Galaxie!!
Probably, those cool old shows sure kept the studio mechanics busy. And how come shows no longer have the cool helicopter stunts and chases any more like all the 70s and 80s shows did?
hpiguys Workshop - man ain’t that the truth, they sure as hell don’t make shows like they used to, do they?!?!?! Hell I can’t remember half the shows i used to watch from late 60’s through the 80’s, those were the days though!!! Now I’m just a wore out old man! Lmao!
I'm not a fan of the show or the Ben Stiller parody, but that is a pretty nice looking kit for the money and I do like Fords from that era. I may get one. Thanks for sharing. You've convinced me to buy another kit! :)
Chris Excellent kit early instructions had Manifikd Error Revell later corrected. "Squad Rod" wheels n Tires would give better build ditto if Spec edition 32 5 window Windsor engine swapped in. It s got good detail n enhancing what's there will bring it dynamite. Im working hidlgh detail build now on this
I would like to add a few things to your review which because of your"tender age" you probably don't know. First, those"big pins" on the suspension aren't pins. Those are what was known as air shocks. They were suppose to improve ride and handling. They also could raise or lower the suspension. The air bags were a blackish rubber color. Something else, these were a special order car from your local Ford dealer. They all had the white stripe. Colors I remember are ,red, orange, yellow with black interior and a olive green with a tan interior. You are correct about the heater. I would not attach it until after you check fit on the assembled engine. Reason being was that the big Ford engines were too big for the available space. I knew someone who brought one when they first came out. He always laughed about having it. He was a mechanic with his own sho. You see if you wanted to do a tuneup or change the plug wires or plugs, you could only do that by pulling the engine halfway out of the compartment !!! LMAO !!! I. should also point out you are correct that the back of the front bench seat is an ashtray. I also noticed that there is one on each side of the rear seat sidewalls. It's the small square. The instrument panel decal was optional, otherwise it is the interior color. One of my frat brothers had the green version. it's dash was body color and not the tan of the seats. Back in the day, I think o remember that this car was a kit from AMT or MPC who also had Huffy Bear's pimp mobile. I can't remember if it was a Monte Carlo or a Cadallic. All I remember is the chrome parts were gold plated. I enjoyed your review and I hope this is a bit of help to those who build it.
I know the cars in the show had air suspension shocks, hi-jackers maybe, to raise the rear end up for clearance from those big rear tyres. I don't think the front suspension had them though. Might be best to wrap some wire round the front pins to replicate coil springs?

I wasn't a fan of the show, but I do recognize the car after watching a few episodes during its run on TV. I found the movie to be rather dumb. I'm just starting on this kit and from what I see, it is a nice kit. It's not perfect and it does have its flaws, but the alternative would be a resin kit and that body doesn't seem to be accurate, plus you'll need a donor kit for the chassis and engine. I'm glad I got this one instead!
Revell made the white stripe decal wrong!! Check out pics of the Torino online...you'll see the stripe comes to a point at the body line on the rear quarter panel. If you want accuracy, you'll have to make your own decal.
I've been working on putting this model together for about a month now. I'm about ready to pull my hair out and take it to someone else to finish. The entire step 1 is to put the whole engine together and 90% of that had to be painted. The directions have the numbers for the two manifolds switched. And the directions mistakenly have the alternator numbered as 19 when it shouldn't be numbered at all. Directions have the water pump numbered as 14 when it should be 19. This is just sloppy directions. I can't get any of the stickers to stay on no matter what I do, they just fall off. I've been having to glue them on. And then they tear. So many parts are supposed to be black when the car is done so why not just put those parts on the black tree? They are on the red tree and you have to paint them black. This shouldn't be this hard to put together. I put the wheels and tires together and put them on the chassis and they are wobbly like they are ready to fall off. I'm only on step 6 out of 16 steps. I really want to finish step 6 and then put it all back in the box to take a break from it. The red doesn't match the color of the car and all the red body parts will have to be painted just like everything else. Can you tell I'm frustrated? Is this normal for Revell models?
