Have to factor in cost for tranny/shift linkage.. Fuel upgrades (injectors/fuel pump etc.) Hondata and tune.. Also if your not doing all the work yourself then the cost of labor to have someone else do it.. Might be a good idea to add another $500+ on top of the overall cost for miscellaneous items or fabrication.. Great video though.. Keep rocking.. 💯👌
My civic went from stock gsr turbo, to piston and rod turbo with no issues, to a b18a bottom end, gsr head lsvtec, golden eagle sleeved 84mm build, 854whp 519tq. It's gone 2 seasons zero issues and it's still together in my car now waiting to come to life again when I finish up the engines new setup. One and done is what I say, sleeves/css, good pistons and rods, good clearances and good tune.
AWD is another one of those not-worth-it things, now. When you could get all the stuff cheap it was a good upgrade. Now the costs outweigh the benefits.
I know this video is old, but for anyone watching in 2024 VTEC is your best bet for all motor, if you're going to boost then you don't need VTEC , in fact some people say it makes tuning a lot easier if you don't have it.
I just got my first car, 1999 Civic coupe. It’s the dream build, in the future I want to k20/24 swap and turbo!! Goal is 450-500 hp on low boost for daily driving
My stock sleeve GSR block with rods and pistons made 600hp no issues, I think that crack ringland is build error and a bone stock turbo civic with a b series won’t compare to a built one, so it’s worth it to build
First build the engine properly get a good engine builder 2nd get a good tuner someone who knows what they are working with both motors make great power on a budget if it’s done right and I’ve been following you for a while man and that lsv was iffy
The car probs hooks better with the wavetrac LSD setup it has now compared to the open diff trans you were using with the LS Vtec engine. It probably would have been faster down the quarter with the old engine but we'll never know i guess. Glad its running good for you now tho.
I want to know itemized what all is included in that $6xxx value. Good civic shells around here are $1000.......wuat other than wheels and tires which weren't added in that price costs $5600ish???
I have a b20b that i purchased for $400 ans spent 500 on turbo kit, $1000 on ecu and hondata s300 v3, 1000cc injectors $300,4 bar map $100, and tuned at 14psi and i dyno'd 387hp @ 335tq 🤯
I have any Eg with a built ls vtec it's making about 430 to the tire This is my first turbo front wheel drive car this thing feel squirrely in the ass end what do you recommend for suspension?
Get your alignment checked for sure.. and if you don't care about cornering then unhook the rear sway bar... You won't see one on an sfwd car for a reason
Don't have shallow pockets or ull be buying everything over(motor wise) 5k it blows 😑 then another 5... that's 10k. Numbers don't lie u know. Nice build man!
@@boosted_john just got the block back from css. Running a 66 borg. Wisco pistons, tuff rods, 2200cc injectors, full bc head. Twin disc clutch. If you have any advice lay it on me. Can always use knowledge
@@onlysends vtec will get you there without putting so much strain on that LS engine engine..you will see how hard it will be to make 700whp on a non vtec engine
I feel like you spent a lot of unnecessary money in the 1st motor. I personally would set a realistic goal OR budget. If your current motor can get there build it that will always be the cheapest option. I agree VTEC isn't needed ,but it does help. I have a CRX with a b16a2 since I have the motor I threw Nippon Racing v2 Pistons and scat rods at it bc my goal is 400-450whp. Sounds like we have similar money in our builds but I got VTEC bc it came with the car. Before this I was going to build be D16z6 with YCP Pistons and Rods and get the same power lol. Basically with Hondas if you want 400-450WHP use whatever motor you have (almost) and set aside $2k (roughly). if you own a Honda and want more than 500WHP , throw budget out of the window and have fun. Obviously there are one offs (typically every car people reference off RUclips) but just a decent rule of thumb
I paid 900 for my eg coupe n got a 4door integra with a real type r for 1500😁 i ran a 13.5 after just dropped in my eg and hit the track but now I have alot more done now. I'm from south jersey

Hey man I love your videos I've been in supporter for a long time but you have to admit you're tuning must be wrong or you must be doing something wrong there's no way you're only getting 350 with that setup you have I hope you find out the problem.
I got a prelude that I have about 12,000 into still looks like shit but it has a fully built H22a Euro R with 100 shot and I have a turbo kit just sitting in my basement from the last motor that blew up 3 times
VTEC is only worth it on NA builds. I’m in the process of spending too much money on a B16A right now so The struggle is real. I’m too far into it to stop but I would have to say that building a Honda at all is not worth it anymore. It used to be cheaper than the GM 8-cylinder builds but now it’s not.
Stock K block costs as much as his built motor set up. And its only worth it for the lower end torque. The b18 isnt limiting itself so you can make just as much power as a K + turbo. His turbo should have only been good for 400ish otherwise he wasnt pushing it for drivability issues. Most guys run slicks ect when at 400hp in a honda, he isnt
TLDR: Yes its worth it. It exists for areason Not TLDR: No. As anybody who knows anything about VTEC knows: Vtec just happens to be a bigger cam. So you can have the equivalent of the VTEC cam with a cam swap. Yes, better bottom end, then better top end. but for simplicity sake, more oil pressure, reliability and cost, sometimes (mainly for non street applications where power is everything) more power due to less rotational mass and complication in the head, less things to fail. im a bit drunk so correct me if anything is wrong
Ls/b20 vtec is never a good idea, eventually they all fail and dont hold up very well. If honda thought it was a good idea, they woulda done it to begin with. Just my experience. Either do full vtec engine or do full non vtec and stsy within its limits. A non vtec bottom end just isnt meant to rev like vtec bottom ends
Do you think building a VTEC engine is worth it?
I was gonna do a K24 bottom end with my K20 top end with turbo.
Yea i think it is. Why turbo a non vtec when you have vtec motors just imo
I hate seeing non vtec turbo waste of money
@@mrhatchyK24 idk I have a F22b non vtec turbo only 7lbs in my EK Hatch & it pulls hard. Good torque
