Nate, I just wanted to thank you for all the time and effort you put into making these tutorials. The production value is professional and top notch. There is so much detail and attention to explaining timing, what fingers to use, the chord pattern. I especially like how you match the words of the song to the chords and the rhythm and timing and right hand - left hand patterns. You make it easy to learn and very accessible. I am so glad I bought your piano course.

I really appreciate these piano tutorials! I grew up surrounded by The Beatles even though I hadn't realized, mainly through music in commercials and watching earlier seasons of Thomas & Friends not knowing that the man that was speaking was Ringo himself. My freshman year of high school we played music from The Beatles and over the years they've grown on me as a band. Their music has inspired me to learn bass and piano, as well as start learning music theory with songs I know. These tutorials are really helpful for both learning the piano with songs I know and getting to understand some of the things I don't notice when listening. For example, I had no idea "Hey Jude" had measures of 2/4 sprinkled in it as they just felt natural with the song. Thank you so much for providing these tutorials for all to learn!
Just as a side thing for anyone reading this comment or really even this far in, I would like to talk about a personal connection to the group and a bit about their inspiration for me. I will note now that this is a more personal story about my connection to a song and growth as a musician so don't feel like you have to read it. (if you wanna know the story but don't want to read it all there's a TL:DR at the bottom.)
George is my favorite of the 4, and as of commenting this it is Feb. 22, making it 3 days until his birthday. Part of my journey to learning music theory and concepts was actually a challenge to transcribe a song for me and my friends to play, and I chose to do "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". It's my personal favorite song, and I have a strong connection with the lyrics as well as the song as whole as it resembles an important time for both me and George. Sure people will probably say "Something" or "Here Comes The Sun" were some of his best works with the band, but personally, I think his work with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was the best. It was when he fully showed off what he could do as a songwriter, and definitely led to his contributions on Abbey Road.
I first heard the song when I was going through a tough time in my life, and the lyrics really spoke to me. I nearly had to pause the song to cry because it felt like George was singing to me in hopes of comforting me. Now when I hear the song, it serves as a reminder to me that things that happen have their reasons.
I haven't always been the "quiet kid", in fact I used to talk to my teachers as if they were my best friends. Going into 8th grade though, I just went silent. I don't know why I did or how it came to that, but I started to live my life as a background character. All my seats were in the back corners so I wasn't really the focal point of anyone. I started to make friends in band as the years went on and most of my closest friends today are the fellow musicians I've met. When I first started to like The Beatles, George quickly stood out to me. I had heard him be described as "The Quiet Beatle" and I felt an inspiration by that. I had something in common with one of my favorite musicians. When I heard "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" it led me to also realize that even if he was the quiet one in the group (getting only a fraction of what Lennon and McCartney put out) he still knew his stuff, and when he did write songs, he wrote them well. I finally came out of my shell and started to improve my skill and confidence with music, and even started to write songs of my own, and I owe it all to George.
I want to thank George Harrison mainly as he was the leading cause in my growth as a musician, as well as helping me grow as a person. I'd also like to thank the group as a whole for releasing their beautiful and life changing songs that still take the world by storm after 60 years. Lastly, I would like to thank you Piano with Nate. Your videos have made great sources of study and are especially nice to learn from while I work on things other than music.
Sorry this comment is so freakishly large lol. I mainly just wanted to write a thank you but I got distracted and felt like I could use the chance to share my story and connection with the band.
TL:DR I grew as a musician and person, and learned to love the beautiful music of George Harrison and The Beatles thanks to "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
Oh, and one more thing since the season is right, Happy Birthday George! I'm sure that many wish you were still here to see the day.

I can’t tell you how geeked I am to find this video. A guitarist friend of mine gifted me with a Yamaha keyboard that he wasn’t using and it has (among MANY others) the perfect piano patch for this song. I should point out that I’m at the Neanderthal stage of learning keys but I always wanted to learn Paul’s style as closely as possible when learning Hey Jude. And you’ve got it ALL here. The proper key, all the little inflections he uses, the correct voicings, and you explain everything VERY well so that it’s not overwhelming to novices and still retains the critical elements that pros would want to nail in order to play it well. I love that you encourage people not to get too regimented in the execution of inversions, and that you obviously know that it’s cool to add one’s own style every now and then. I’ll be rewinding the hell outta this lesson, guaranteed! Thank you, sir!

Hi! Let me think about this...the best I can say right now is it just naturally happens with time, especially within a given song, you start to get muscle memory for how far to move your hands and fingers at different moments simply through repetition

Hi. Hey, just curious why you dropped the C in the C7sus4? I see you do play it in the bass part but wondering why you dropped w/ the right hand. Thx!

Hi! Simple answer is, I don't hear the high C in the chord on the beatles recording. It's very common to not play the root in right hand chord voicings since it is redundant if the left hand is playing it...doing so can thin out the chord so it has a less "dense" sound, or simply make it easier for the fingers to play.

Thanks Nate! I haven't been playing all that long and my personality tends to be very rules based but every now and then someone reminds me that using your instincts/personal touches, etc is more than acceptable! Thx again! @@PianowithNate
