When you include this many players your Jazz Band becomes a Concert Band. Select the best 4 trumpets, 4 saxes, 4 trombones, and a rhythm section and things will improve dramatically.
@@OfCatsAndWomen thanks! Our teacher wasn't sure if we could make it for the Christmas concert. We did it! He says we are the best group he ever had since a long time ;)
They accept everyone into the group as there is no music degree program so they don't audition. So to avoid disappointment and encourage everyone to enjoy playing as a hobby, they let everyone play when they play in spaces large enough to allow it. This makes way for a very happy band and a wall of sound, thanks for your concern though, but honestly, they're doing just great! Even played at The Royal Albert Hall this month!
@@jogjog7317 we are well aware that big band pieces are meant for one per part don't worry! And that's all good and well, but as I've just said, they let everyone in the band play when the space allows it, which is a great thing to do! So it'd be so cruel to force some people not to play because 'it's meant for fewer instruments' as I'm sure you'd agree! Why not try and go to one of their many sold out gigs that they put on throughout the year and air your concerns there?
Martha O'Sullivan But wouldn’t having people know that they can be kicked off if they’re not up to par encourage people to practice and strive to be better? If you know that no matter how much practice you put into the instrument, you’ll never get kicked from the band, so you won’t practice, whereas if you know that if you don’t practice then someone will take your spot, then you’ll practice and try to be better. I could be wrong, everyone here could have the greatest work ethic ever imagined, but that’s just my thoughts.

Maybe if you asked everyone to play quieter, it would sound better. It sounds nice, but loud right now.
You're all in university but I play this and I'm only in pre school fucksake guys

Martha O'Sullivan that's good and all but this particular piece is meant for a smaller amount of instruments

@@jogjog7317 I agree, I prefer it to be played with no instruments
