I've noticed when we get heavy rain 🌧 here in Nashville the Shellcracker school up shallow and close to the bank Richard!!! A couple videos back on my RUclips channel I was catching BIG Shellcracker about a foot off the bank in high water conditions

Those fish are beautiful and big big big. Don't see them in Ohio like that. We may see 6" fish an occasional 7. God blesses you with knowledge, ability and great fishing areas. Great video.

We call em chinquapin in North Louisiana but wherever you catch em or whatever you call em it's fun defined. I've caught 2 plus pounders on Lake D'Arbonne here in the past.
We grew up catching and eating shell crackers and blue gills! Now that I'm grown I usually filet them. If my dad was alive he'd kick my butt for not cooking them whole!😅

I take those with a tiny red wiggler or a tiny slice of corn. Like a half a kernel I fill up the cooler. Just a drop of garlic.

My river looks good this week. It is tempting to set-up for bank fishing but I will use my kayak in those areas I came across. It is near a

I use a size 10 hook w 10 LB test & catch plenty of panfish to use for Flathead bait. I catch them a lot smaller.

Sure wish wildlife and parks would focus more, a lot more, on stocking redear in the smaller, state lakes (and reservoirs too) here in the middle of our country,,, and STOP with the wipers.
The latter ruined the big gills population in a small lake close to me.
Sad.
Brother I don't know how you manage to see that super light line. I struggle with 4 lb trying to tie knots. I need readers for that usually. Very nice redears. We don't have but a scant few around these parts. It's all bluegills and pumpkinseeds here.
I have those jigs in black and olive green. Fish seem to hit them extra hard. I got them from Temu real cheap.

I catch too many bass/channel cats when I'm fishing for bluegil, perch, crappie. Usually with the same fishing rod. So I use 6# mono. I couldn't imagine using 2# test.
