Would love to see you and momma sue do a catch & cook video on these shell daddy’s one day!! Love your videos sir, you’re such an inspiration to all fisherman & don’t even realize how much! Thank you Thank you Thank you!
Glad to hear that you have quit smoking, I have been quit for 17 years now. Tried to get my younger brother to quit years ago, he died 2 years ago of lung cancer that spread to his pancreas and liver. You take care, really enjoy your vids and hope to see many more.
I’m really amazed that the fish are not stealing your bait. I will definitely try hooking the worm your way. Your films are outstanding keep up what you are doing. I watch a lot of fishing shows yours are at the top.
Thank you for the video's Richard! Being frozen up here in middle TN this week hasn't allowed me to get out to fish. Been a sad time but your videos help ease the pain. Anytime you want to come wade some new creeks you're welcome and it would be my privilege! Thank you for the video. God bless you!
Richard you are the lite line specialist!! How did you keep from catching sauger? They are always hanging out at the dam. Keep making us in the know 🎣🎣😁🙏🏻
Hey Richard Gene, I have watched you for 2-4 years now and I have reconnected with an old childhood friend and we fish a-lot together and watch your videos and laugh out Butts off Woo Woo. I am so Proud to hear that you quit smoking. We all Love You and Mamma Sue and your videos. I/We want you around for many years to come. Hang in there Buddy. Keep on Quitting Buddy, You can Do It. Thanks !!
Hello Richard Gean, hope mama Sue is doing well. You mentioned about those guys watching through the monitor at the dam well I can imagine it now one of those guys names probably Earl the other name Wilbur Wilbur got them long nose hair too. They probably seen you coming up through there and said oh Lord Wilbur here he is again you let them keep watching you you keep catching keep producing and we’ll keep watching lol. Take care buddy.
Richard, thank you for another great video. I have watched several of your videos about catching panfish and enjoyed them all. I am located in the UK and became fascinated by the idea of catching panfish in the early 1960s, when I was around nine or ten years old and I had already been fishing for a couple of years. Always keen to learn more, I found a book about fishing in the local library. I now understand it must have been published in the US. It has a lot of information about how to catch panfish, which I did my best to put into practice. Despite my best efforts, I caught no panfish, although I did catch some decent perch up to around a pound in weight. It was another year or so before I realised that. my lack of panfish success was down to the fact that they don't exist in the UK.... As Homer Simpson might say, "Doh!".
Watching you fish, Richard brings me back to fishing with my father. I sure do miss him, and I hope you live to be 100+. Long live Richard Gene the Fishing Machine! ❤
I remember the last time I used 2lb line lol. I had been reading "pro crappie tips" and read that I needed to use smaller line to potentially hook up on big slab crappie. That the larger smarter fish might be seeing my line... So I did and I hooked one of the biggest crappie I've ever seen and instead of netting her I tried to hoist her up onto the dock I was fishing on. The line snapped and I felt like throwing up. I truly think that fish would have easily went 3.5lbs and broke the lake record I was fishing at. I learned a hard lesson that day lol.
Thats why i went back to the basics Richard. I use the rig you use an caught tons of fish. I caught sun fish catfish smallies and large mouth bass on big nightcrawlers. Also, ive used a 6 inch leader size 1 hook. Then a slip bobber with spit shots. Size 2/0 or 3/0 offset superline hooks with 1/32 oz bullet weights. Then id put a delta red crayfish with trophy bass by procure and caught nice bass. A 1/4 oz tear drop weight size 3/0 circle hook on a drop shot work a dropshot or dead stick it and caught bass. A 1/32 oz or 1/16 crappie jig with a grub worm with procure trophy bass caught big largemouth bass or big smallies. Then a burkley chopo, a wakebait or kvd splash an a shallow diving suspending jerkbait and caught bass and pickerel 😊
❤ Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. My wife and I love watching your channel and learning from you. But we would LOVE to see Mama Sue fishing with you more often. We have successfully lowered the water level in every lake we fish in, using your techniques. Please take care and stay safe Richard, and please give Mama Sue a great BIG Hug and a kiss from Vicki Sue and Me.! "TIGHT LINES" ..!
Richard, you always have good content and advice for us thanks for the videos you have helped many fisherman. Been watching for years appreciate all the tips, tricks and knowledge. Thanks!!
Man it’s cold here in NC too. But we have a warm front coming in next week. I’m hoping to hit the river for a couple of days and catch whatever hits my hook!! Wooooo!!
I've been fishing crawlers for 55 years now! Bouncing whole crawlers for Steelhead on the Feather River in California....My Mom enjoyed eating bluegills... she'd fry em and eat the crispy tails like potato chips! My ex wife caught a 5 1/2 pound bluegill on a rapala minnow once... almost as big as a basketball! On a Berkeley Stinger Rod on Lake Perris Riverside California 1985
After seeing about 50 of your videos and I love them all. But I'm not going to lie when I started watching you I thought you had A.D.D 😂 and now me and my wife are saying WOOOO all the time as we are fishing 🎣. Just keep loving the Lord and fishing too because it's GOOOOOOD furrr you ❤ Love you brother and GOD BLESS
Congratulations on quitting smoking cigarettes!!! I quit last February, we will get to catch alot more fish now!!! Im talkin bout Woooooooooooooo!!! You da man Richard!!!
My belief is that as you mentioned that they like the murky water in winter is because the murky water holds heat better when the sun is out and also warms up alot faster
Richard, 7:35 mark: Muddy water absorbs the sunlight more, and the water tends to be warmer in muddy water, than clear water. That would be my guess. I guess the mud holds the heat better than gin clear water.
Hey Brother Richard, I've heard you mention the drag system on the Daiwa Fuego2000-2500 not working as well as you might like. This particular reel has felt drag washers that can be replaced with carbon fiber discs. Cold weather will cause the drag grease to thicken and the felts will be harder and stickier too. Order a bag of the carbon fiber discs and lighter drag grease to replace the factory stuff. when properly assembled, you should be able to hold the reel up by the line and adjust drag to the point where the weight of the reel will smoothly and slowly allow the reel to lower under its own weight. Super tune the drag system for that light weight line. A fellow fisherman in North Alabama. Micky C
Thank you, Richard for another great video. Really appreciate all the tips and knowledge you share with us. You've proven that the lite lines can catch fish, but man 2lb is scary. Probably because I don't have or use a rod as lite as your using. Gotta get one and try that line again. It is a lot more sport and fun to use lighter tackle. God bless ya'll and stay safe on your travels to these fishing spots. 👍👍
Great video 👍 We're catching them like that up here now, through the ice. For some reason fish through the ice, the meat is denser and tastier. We call them bluegills. The larger ones we refer to them as bullgills. Ounce for ounce, nothing fights like a gill. They do a fine job on a dinner plate as well.
There is a big pond at the city park in Russellville AL. And it’s a mossy / grassy pond. It houses some tater headed shell crackers. The miss causes the water to get clear clear, and in spring you can see the beds rooted out in the grass, you can throw a worm 🪱 in that bed and you’ll catch some tater heads I mean! They’re packed in that pond
Big 👍🏻Richard. Bluegill and shell crackers are one of my favourites also . But I think yellow perch is my all time favourite. Then blugill and shell crackers followed next third is walleye. Have you ever had yellow perch ??
Hey man, I was just watching Fishing with Nordbye, and he talking about fishing by the dam to for Shellcrackers. Even said y'all should do a video together! Old man Gene
Richard, They prefer the dirtier water bc it holds more heat on cold days. And maybe the fish aren’t following the murky water, just those fish are more inclined to eat and react vs the same species in 5-10 degree colder water that day. Just my opinion. Thanks for the terrific videos
I agree with you..I'm sure you thought it later currant and moving makes them strike faster even with dark water.they have to act fast.😮(this is a response to a comment)
Would love to see you and momma sue do a catch & cook video on these shell daddy’s one day!! Love your videos sir, you’re such an inspiration to all fisherman & don’t even realize how much! Thank you Thank you Thank you!

You da man Richard!!!
My favorite type of fishing and I agree that they are very good eating!
Richard, I see your treating your adrillagon sickness with fishing. A lot of us have that sickness but rarely get the proper treatment.
Give and it will be given unto you..Bless you brother!
My belief is that as you mentioned that they like the murky water in winter is because the murky water holds heat better when the sun is out and also warms up alot faster
Ready to go fishing. This cold weather stinks. Maybe Thursday and Friday.
Enjoyed this one Richard Gene… I’d like to learn more about that light rod and reel combo.

Caught them spawning in Lilly pads spawning. They had the pads shaking. We got some giants. Best time ever fishing.
At 15:57, That was an unexpected 'twist'.
That was fun, nice fish, Richard you make everything so easy.👍
I always love your videos and the fact that you don't use live scope .
