Interesting… but I think this vid is missing a key part of the story. Some might be here thinking, “Well why do the workers need to eat the Queen if the whole colony is going to die with her? Thing is that’s not the case necessarily. Unlike ants, Termite queens can do Pathogenesis to lay a cloned version of herself, and also males don’t die- they become kings. So the king can mate with the queen’s clone to make backup versions of herself already supplied with the same sperm. Some species probably also have backup plans for the king, like bringing them in from outside. So the colony itself could potentially be immortal, living well beyond the life of one queen.
The king termites are even visible in this video's footage. Those are the long ones without the big heads like that of guards that stay in close proximity to the queen termite.
Very nice video and information. I see like a larva with it's nest. Which looks like a gourd seed. Moving in wall and roof also. Some days it stay in a fix position. What is it ?
I didn't realise the Queen was so big, it's huge. Imagine being constantly pregnant, your gonna need a lot of Diapers! 😲 Lol, didn't get paid any overtime. 🤣
One thing not mentioned here that makes them different to other eusocial insects is that their colonies have kings, who form the colony with the queen and the two mate for life, both living together and producing countless offspring for as long as 40 years
Sometime when I feel particularly ambitious, I might consider taking an infested stump or log, and carefully tearing it apart to find the queen, adding to my insect collection (of some 10K specimens, of mostly bees and wasps).
Yes. They actually did. They’re recycling her fluids as nutrients as she expires naturally . 😅 thus the licking takes a whole new purpose. Mannerism to Cannibalism 😂
I'm so proud to european in this moment. You may wonder why, it's because we don't build shitty wood an paper houses but we use stones, concrete and bricks, it look like the 3 pigs story...
Before you call them the pinnacle of vile, remember that male termites do not die after mating like in some eusocial insects, but instead they form what is known as a termite king, the presence of which is necessary to start a colony- termite kings and termite queens find one another, and then they settle down and build their colony. In the early days, they will work together to manage the colony. Colonies will not mind other colonies starting nearby, you often get generations of colonies in one area. I personally think that's kinda wholesome. Also their queens can live for up to 50 years in some cases and the lifespans of the kings is kinda long too- and as far as we know, their life after the early stages of the colony consists of fertilising eggs, taking a walk, and fertilising more eggs. Termite eggs will not hatch unfertilised, the king is necessary for reproduction. They are also the only other animal to build in the same way as we do, and in fact if you consider scale their building prowess is even greater than ours.
They already discovered bacteria that digest plastic. It wouldn't be too hard to believe that they will inhabit another organism's gut and those organisms will start eating plastic.
I gotta say that the way the Termite Queen's abdomen pulsates and wriggles is one of the creepiest things I have seen in my life.

A mans flesh is his own, his water belongs to the tribe.
Whats that squeaking sound? Its attacking my anxiety..
I didn't realise the Queen was so big, it's huge.
Imagine being constantly pregnant, your gonna need a lot of Diapers! 😲
Lol, didn't get paid any overtime. 🤣
Hey, don't call a lady huge!
The benevolent queen is voluptuous 😌
@@raysilvern It's 12:15 uk time, I've been working hard all week.
I promise I'll look up your fancy words in the morning, until then Toodle loo! 😂👍
Why does she need diapers if her termits can eat that sh...t 🤔
@@raysilvern so true. Obese is way more accurate
One thing not mentioned here that makes them different to other eusocial insects is that their colonies have kings, who form the colony with the queen and the two mate for life, both living together and producing countless offspring for as long as 40 years
They're not silent, I can hear them chewing at night 🤷🏽♂️
❤❤❤I enjoy watching this video from Gardening with kirk
No problem of termites here since we build house with bricks and concrete
Thanks for that! You must have read my mind, just wanted I wanted to watch with my breakfast.
Sometime when I feel particularly ambitious, I might consider taking an infested stump or log, and carefully tearing it apart to find the queen, adding to my insect collection (of some 10K specimens, of mostly bees and wasps).
How is a new queen born?
She can make own genetical copy. De facto she is immortal (they have no mind, they are preprogrammed biological machines, so this term is correct).
It is more the reproduction slave than the queen -.-
I wonder why the queen's abdomen is so active.
It seems like a sci-fi horror movie😁
Wooden house 🏠 exist.
Termites: this is free real estate
What happens after they kill her. Could of at least enlightened us. New queen arises? They all eventually die? Meh
Was this spider at 3:20 meant to be here?
Didn't answer the title question. Upnext you're complaining about adblock users.
Yes. They actually did. They’re recycling her fluids as nutrients as she expires naturally . 😅 thus the licking takes a whole new purpose. Mannerism to Cannibalism 😂
Ummm…. Yes they did. Did you even watch the video?
0:00 omg are they having like a ritual 🥲
Notably, the termite queen is one of the founding members of the colony. The termite king stays with her.
Is that a death spiral at the beginning of this video ?
I'm so proud to european in this moment. You may wonder why, it's because we don't build shitty wood an paper houses but we use stones, concrete and bricks, it look like the 3 pigs story...
THese insects almost broken down my grandfather's gate.
3:21 is that spider on his shoulder ?..
Termites in a nutshell:
“Hey, mom just laid her last ever egg”
“So what?”
“We eat her”
“You sick bastard….I like that”
Actually there are 2nd species of termites that species feed on mushroom that they farm
imagine dont know more than 90% of termite species eat spore
The continuous labour pain of the queen
Nice informative video
There is a species of termite that blows itself up to defend the nest. Nature's own suicide bombers.
I've seen termites outside and the termites have seen my brick house.
the subtitles lol
"It all comes back to poop here."
I LOL'd
love the commentary
Termites love to eat wood. Their favorite type of wood is lana wood.
Wooden house: *Exists*
Termite: Free meal!
My skin is crawling when watching the queen’s body 😭
Now I see part of the inspo for Zenomorph queen design.
Maybe one day there will be an insect which main-food is plastics.
They already discovered bacteria that digest plastic. It wouldn't be too hard to believe that they will inhabit another organism's gut and those organisms will start eating plastic.
