Coneheads, egg stacks and anteater attacks: The reign of a termite queen - Barbara L. Thorne
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 сен 2024
- Take a look inside the conehead termite colony as a queen begins her reign as one of the longest living insects in the animal kingdom.
--
A single determined termite braves countless threats to participate in the only flight of her lifetime. She evades the onslaught of predators as she lands, flips off her wings, secretes pheromones, and attracts a mate. But she's not alone. Unlike most termite species, conehead termite colonies can have multiple queens and kings. Barbara L. Thorne details the reign and duties of termite royalty.

I love how the narration was done with enthusiasm, it was so enjoyable to listen during the video
It fits the stop animation style that feels kind of old. Narration was often spoken like this back then
Major props. *And they get busy*
Agreed!
It makes me wanna be a termite lmao

"The nest sustained some damage, but the royals remain undisturbed"
That hit hard somehow. Just like in the human world...
The workers lose a lot of their purchasing power to inflation, many suffering the human equivalent of the worker termites being lost, by becoming homeless from the rent increases intentionally left out of the CPI, living in the husks of their cars, in the communities they once built, but the billionaire royals barely notice that everything is 60 % more expensive, since their massive hordes have grown by more than the inflation percentage, and the tax-free loans they live off always remain on tap, at special affordable interest rates
almost as if human society needs to change
For what it’s worth, colony species are a bit different. Worker classes don’t have the ability to reproduce on their own, so the only way to pass on their genes is to do everything they can to protect the royals, so protecting the Queen for them is as important as protecting your own child.
I felt that too...
ikr!
I bow down to the narrator being so funny and enthusiastic, making the informative lesson become even more enjoyable!
Bow down to your queen. Or should I say OUR queen.
Hello it work let me recommend you to Dr Ijebor who help me with my sugar infection him can cure all kind of infection, and him cure all kind of disease and him keep to his worlds also work for a lot of country...

Love the stop motion animation on this one. It has a lovely charm that no other animation can match.
I know right! It's so satisfying to watch
Only TED-ED could make a video about termite colonies and have it as informative, charming, and clever as the rest of their content.
Are you saying that termites are boring?
The narration was amazing i felt like a kid listening to a story
I can't express how much I love this video! The animation, narration, and information was all spectacular! You've got to make more entomology related videos in this style!
I had no idea that a termite queen could live for 20 years!
Never old enough to drink in the US, I'm afraid.
Queen ants can live for 30
20 years is still on the low end for termite lifespan. They have a max lifespan of 50 years
I applaud the narrator for making this soooo funny.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the effort that went into animating this?

The stopmotion animation coupled with the narration is really a perfect match! I feel like a kindergartner listening to a story by my teacher❤️
I can't imagine how much effort this animation took... Incredible work!
Wonderful video!
The animation is a great mix of stop motion with real and artificial elements. The narrator is beautifully enthusiastic which makes the video enjoyable to watch.
Good job TED 😉
Stop motion animation in this video is amazing!

Termites have such incredible biology! It’s incredible how something so small can go through such a dramatic change and create an empire of invertebrates!
The narration and the animation were amazing!!!!! I loved this soo much! Thanks!
My new favorite animation style from TedEd!

I love how some topics on this video are very disturbing but the voice over makes it better
Wow the animation is beautiful
it just came out 💀
This reminds me of the James and the Giant Peach animation. So much work must have gone into this short video.
This is sooooo well made,
Very informative. Termites are the only colony insect with a king and a queen.

I'm tired of praising the animation styles of TED-Ed (but I'll continue to praise though)...
I demand a movie about termites with this animation.
Might be X rated with all the “business” the royals get up to 😅
i love the stuffed anteater toy in the animation/stop motion!! it looks so much cuter
The enthusiastic narration and novel real-world and animation blend was splendid to watch.
This video is really informative and fun to watch. Our house has been suffering from termite infestation and it's really really annoying because we don't know how to get rid of them. By watching this video,at least we know this might last some 19 more agonizing years ..

Hi what a pretty picture you've on your profile! Just decided to stop by and say Hi!! I hope my compliment is appreciated 😊
It's currently 11:11 in my time so... Long live ted ed
I hate termites as they ate my roof, but this video sparks joy.
i love how the start is so funny. really brings vibe to the video
I wish I had the energy of the narrator when I wake up...
i can't believe that someone made the life of termites such a funny story.
AYYY PANAMANIAN HERE
my family and some people I know call them "bichos de lluvia" because they come out during the first rains of the season! a bit annoying because they might fall on you while trying to sleep dhdjdjf my cat likes to eat them though
I was once outside after having rained and some of those got into my hair and then walked around.. Not a nice experience
Ted-Ed might simply be the next home school.

I want that narrator to narrate my life day to day. I'm sure she could make anything sound interesting
Wow this kind of education videos are my favorites
Fun fact, there are also conehead termites that eat humus and lichens instead of wood!
The former's humus diet is basically soil, not to be confused with the more delicious (to us) hummus.
The latter, lichen eaters, may forage in the open with long convoys hundreds of metres long - soldiers guarding the sides whilst workers run in the middle in search for pastures of lichen to graze on like cows like in this video ruclips.net/video/lZNn5gTL0yQ/видео.html , though I have personally encountered columns at least 3 times as wide.
I misread hummus as humans 🤦♂️
Humus or hummus? Humus is soil, hummus is delicious

I had a termite infestation! Took significant time to remove all the rotten wood and replaced it with granite and new fresh wood ! I hate termites ! So much damage and so expensive to repair !
Only a few species are considered pests
Excellent animation and narration!
