Thanks for this vlog. I know someone who as a child (about 7y/o) took a train ride from Florida to Chicago alone. He was befriended by someone on the train who looked out for him and played games with him to keep him amused. As an adult his parents told him it had been Boris Karlov! My friend said he was the sweetest, kindest, nicest person ever. So glad to see his beautiful home.
Thanks for sharing your heartwarming story, Aileen ! I am not surprised, as the late great Mr Karloff was known as one of Hollywood's most gentlest and kindest men offscreen ! Bless his heart !
Jordan, that nice home @ 3:53 in your vlog belongs to Jennifer Love Hewitt and her family - they also own the home across the street - i lived in that area in the early 90's - beautiful home and a very nice family, many Halloween nights Jennifer would be there with her mom passing out candy for all the kids - that whole block gave out the BIGGEST candy bars to the kids and had plenty of scary decorations on their lawns
It would be nice to travel back in time to meet these great legends. To witness the day they were discovered and were asked to act the character/s that would define them.
Boris Karloff appeared in the stage production of "Arsenic and Old Lace" on Broadway, and was a huge hit in his role. But when the movie was filmed he was still in the Broadway production and didn't want to desert the cast to act in the movie, so Raymond Massey played the role in the movie.
Frankenstein monster was my favorite with Boris Karloff. The Wolfman with Lon Chaney Jr. was also one of my favorite monster movies because you can sense the compassion of both characters thru their inner struggles to communicate their feelings. Very special method acting shown by both actors. Enjoy the fact that Boris Karloff lived in Toluca Lake and that he comes from such a refined background and was so kind and down to earth as well as being a loving father to Sarah and other children who needed attention as well. ❤️🌹Also the Ferndell Park brought memories of my first date with my soon to be husband also while in a church picnic. We hiked all the way to the Griffith Park Observatory. Fond memories indeed. Thank you Jordan & Jah. ❤️🙏🏻🌈
Oh Jordan, to know you are a Christian warms my heart!!!! I thought you may have been one! This vlog was fabulous! I adore Boris Karlov and feel that today he, along with my other favorite ghouls are forgotton! No one will ever take his place, along with beloved Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Bela, Lon, and ALL the greats, Thanks for taking me here! I actually feel like I am there.
Thank you thank you THANK YOU!! Love Boris!!! Got a chance to meet his daughter and her husband in the 1990s. They were both very nice. Yes her father was a very nice quiet man. I truly believe he was meant to be Frankenstein. Love those old movies and even though he was consider a monster in the movie. I always felt sorry for him. There is nothing like the classics!!! Peace to you!!!
I lived in Toluca Lake! Used to see Mike Mazurki walking his dog, nice man. My dad would get his hair cut by Bob Hopes Barber. Bob put a Nativity Scene in huge tree so it could be seen over the wall surrounding his house. I had ballet class at Natalie Claire's Ballet studio. I lived in Coeur d' Alene in Lakeside Apts! Amazing video! Thank you!
I love Boris. He was a classy man. I loved Arsenic & Old Lace. I was a childwho'd visit my grandfather just to watch these classic films. These monsters were so sympathetic
Didn't know Boris Karloff's history, very interesting! I've seen his Frankenstein movies, it used to be a tradition to watch them on Halloween eve. And of coarse The Grinch Who Stole Christmas is still a Christmas time tradition at our house.
How right you are ! I am so glad that the retro TV network "MeTV" has been showing episodes of "Thriller" again on Sunday nights. I've recorded a few of them on my DVR and greatly enjoyed watching them. I'm a huge fan of the late great Mr Karloff and he was the perfect host for the series ! THANKS for your comment !! :-)
What a name for a star of horror films, Boris Karloff also worked as a lumberjack here in Canada & from what I have read drove a beer delivery truck in LA. He was not afraid of hard work, a lesson for us all. Even the band Black Sabbath took their name from a movie he did called of course Black Sabbath. Jordan your vids are really great, thanks very much and please keep them coming.
I was happy to see that little glimpse of church in this video. It's always a good day when we realize we need more Jesus in our lives! Great episode, Jordan, I really enjoyed it!!!
The white house to the left of Karloff's home was the home of Bella Lugosi-- that's right, Dracula! Hard to believe they lived side by side, but Universal and Warner Bros. are both walking distance from this location, so this entire neighborhood is a who's who of old Hollywood and current stars. Justin Bieber lives a few doors down and rents for $60,000 per month. To the right of the Karloff home was the house of W.C. Fields. These homes all sit on Toluca Lake-- an actual Lake that almost no one in Los Angeles knows about and only people who live on the lake (34 homes) have access. W.C. Fields was known for having a guy row him around the lake while he drank martinis. On this same street a few houses down is an English tudor home where Bette Davis lived. The house Jordan stands in front of with the dumpster is a Paul Williams designed home built for the founder of the Bob's Big Boy franchise. Jordan also walks past a house that was used as the primary residence for Myrna Loy and Shirley Temple in The Bachelor and The Bobbysoxer-- also starring Cary Grant. Numerous scenes take place in front of the house-- it looks exactly the same today.
What a great vlog, Jordan! I’m a big fan of the old Universal classic monster movies and have seen most of them. My husband and I went to a Famous Monsters festival back in the mid-1990’s and saw quite a few of the old stars from horror/sci-fi movies. It was a lot of fun. I loved getting a glimpse of your church. Mine is also located in the Valley. Thanks for all you do for us. You are so appreciated!
I love the Boris Karloff movies. My Twin Sister and I used to stay up on the weekends when we were kids and watch all the old black and white movies on the late, late show.
I met Fred Gwynne in the 70's at the Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford, Ct. My high school helped with a fundraiser for the Shakespeare and Fred took part in the performance there with Liv Ulman and Ron Palillo to name a few. Fred had gone to college with my English teacher so we met him before the show.. He was so nice to us kids.
Jordan I know you may not read this but I want to thank you for this vlog on Boris, he really was a sweet gentleman to everyone especially children. He also played several roles in the mummy scary there too! What a gentle man, thanks again, I just recently found you, I am a 72 year old Nana and am trying to catch up on the vlogs...I don't always agree with everyone and I won't apolize for that. Thanks again, on ward!
Love this very informative vlog on Boris Karloff. Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Lon Chaney and Boris were the great horror actors!!! Loved seeing precious Jah 😍😎. Thank you sooooo much😊
👋🏻 Jah 🐾🐾🐾🐾 interesting story on an old-time Hollywood actor I didn't know he did the voice of the Grinch Wow 😮 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 arsenic and old lace is one of my favorite black and white movies! & Rebecca with Laurence Olivier & Joan Fontaine another favorite black & white movie. Thanks, Jordan 🦁

Greetings Jordan. Just finished watching this episode and know for a fact that one of the Canadian cities that Boris lived in while he spent time in Canada is Prince Albert Saskatchewan. One of its radio stations were talking about him last week, and how he used to be in a play group in that city. Apparently Boris stayed in Prince Albert for awhile, then left before moving back to Prince Albert for another brief stay before permanently moving away to greener pastures down south. What a remarkable career. And human being. -Jerry
Another brilliant Vlog thanks Jordan !!! After growing up watching these it’s nice to see where they lived and their life background . Thanks for the walk it’s was most refreshing 👍🏻💙🎥🎬🦁😎🐶👍🏻
Rudolph Valentino filmed a fight scene on the Ferndell trail in the grotto area. Saw the movie not long ago and recognized the trail. And, the bench that used to be there was in the scene.
Glad U R getting church back in your life .I loved Boris Karloff I’m sure U know he was a very generous person but never told about his generosity .I found out on THIS IS YOUR LIFE love your vlogs THANK U
Just happened upon your vlog. You have a great enthusiasm for what you do young man. Interesting background information delivered with a true interest. You're charm is infectious. Had to subscribe. Cheers.
Unless stipulated otherwise in their contracts I think they get their prior agreed fee to quite simply do filming until the project is finished ...could be 18days or 18weeks, but the same money ...
Top vlog Jordan I like any of your videos that I see at the start as so far I have enjoyed them all. I remember a lot of old horror films from my childhood and Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi were my favourites.
I should have mentioned that after Boris Karloff did live in Almer Ontario doing farm work he eventually moved to western Canada British Columbia and Edmunton and then the United States. The gentleman certainly had an interesting life. I'm sorry I never had a chance to just sit and talk with him about his early years. I'm sure he could share some fascinating stories about his travels.
You are so knowledgeable and such a positive person - your videos are a major highlight. I just subscribed and will go through your library of videos. Thank you! I was born in California but life in New York so your videos help me feel that nostalgia.
