I'd insist for those going solo as adults, don't ever set yourself up to work out of desperation. Might be obvious advice but one solution is to get a simple side-gig so you get some control back instead of falling & hoping for someone to save you. Pitfalls creep up on you & hit hard so learn from others if possible.
    Edit: Eng fix

Useful tip. Easier to build habits around good structure and stability

I just want to add that there are very good udemy, artstation etc. courses for specific things, characters etc. and they don't cost much while some being really, really good, so it's rarely a bad investment.

Nice! Definitely a lot of options affordable options out there. Making it accessible for everyone.
If you couple these resources with a supportive community and mentorship, then you're paving the way.

I went solo for about 2 years and then about 6 months ago decided to go for a Mentored paid course from an ex-blizzard Artist as I'm really interested in stylised characters (though still not sure how much demand there is for that in the UK).
I would definitely recommend going solo for a while just to make sure you actually like making 3D Art & to learn some programs like Z-Brush/Maya/Blender etc but then make the jump to paid course or university. My work as gotten a lot better since getting the feedback by a professional 3D Artist, I think it would have taken another couple of years to learn all the things I've learned from this course if I had just remained learning by myself.

Great advice. Time is expensive in this climate. If people can't go it alone... They won't make it in industry. 😢

If you only use courses where there is no instructor to watch over your work and give feedbacks (+no community), does it makes you a solo pather ? (such course are usually much cheaper than the one you are refering to; sub 50$ most of the time) This would be like watching video on youtube but in this case you paid to get the videos. Something else you forgot to mention is the possibility to pay for 1on1 coaching session with industry professionnals.

It's possible. Only issue is.. it's like driving in the dark.
Feedback, guidance and community is usually the thing that gets you there.
1 on 1 can also be very powerful. But obviously you have to pay for the premium service.

Best way is to give up game industry at all, the market is too saturated

Thinking that the market is saturated applies to everything really, except for bubbles that last 10 years like IT from 2005 to 2015.

I'm yet to see a Junior position for 3D character artist but all I see is senior opportunities....

@@SebaSantorotry to get a freelance/junior job nowadays, almost impossible, well, it is impossible, unless you take the $5-20 fiverr route, but at that time are you really a 3d artist or a slave?😂

    • @SebaSantoro
      @SebaSantoro 10 месяцев назад +2

@@Santanazation JR positions are typical of non-digital markets. In IT there are fewer and fewer JR positions as well, the mistake is to think that a company is like a patron. The reality is that you can get freelance experience and study enough to have a solid portfolio. It is the disadvantage of being in the historical moment with more information available, the bar is high and no one is going to pay anyone to learn the basics.

@@douka3993 It will be a matter of studying more about art, about technical issues, about niches and about how to sell your services. You will probably do it while you have another job, yes.
