My new Phoenix….when I picked it up it had dd26 motor support and the steering stops to match my boat!! Did that as a thank you for purchasing through them!!! That’s a dealer that treats you right!
I still prefer engine to trailer. Not a big issue to put it back in the truck because I always check my plugs before launch… and when I walk back up to get in the truck I just put the toter in the toolbox …transom saver and motor toter👍
@@peterdevit3523 This is the very question I keep asking . How does this reduce the stress on a transom . ?? I mean use the mega lock on the stock engine same thing right ?? Short of using the old style that you push against the trailer these are not transom savers .
You were right about the guy at DD26. I've never seen this style of transom saver, I have the old model that goes from the trailer to the motor. I couldn't find a video or photos explaining/showing how it works. You, and the DD26 web page have people waiving it in the air telling me it is wonderful. The DD26 is a great option but if you are slightly more value oriented like me, go with the RMP option. Just as good a transom saver for the V8 Pro XS. The steering clips that come with it are trash though. I just use the TH Marine Steer Stop. The RMP + TH will save you $80 on the transom saver and $85 on the steering stops. Just my opinion for Pro XS outboards.
No thank you! Id still rather have the old tried and true transom saver. It comes down to the question of whether I want to transfer load to the lower part of my transom or do I want to transfer load away from the transom to the trailer. I chose the latter.
With the size of these transoms today and the material they are made of you could hang 4 outboards off of the back of them and they'd be fine. No need for the old gear anymore in our opinion
Best or most convenient? An old school transom saver stick is by far going to be the BEST for protecting a transom due to taking away the pivot point/stress. DD26 might be best in its class, but it's not going to provide the best protection. Basic physics.
Call Dave at DD26 and let him give you the run down on the actual physics in play. We thought the same exact thing as you until seeing some high speed footage of the old school stick vs the DD26 of a rig going down the road. We plan on making a video in the future on this.
Only appears that way. A trailer induces a lot of shock stress into an engine. And the larger the jackplate, the more a traditional jackplate will cause the gearcase to wedge away from from the hull. We've ran v6 engines on very lightweight racing hulls for decades. 20ft hulls, some are sub 500lbs with v6 engines on 12" plates. Hulls 30 yrs old and not a gel crack yet. If a hull can't handle a rip across the lake, or worse yet getting big throttle in a trimmed position while putting on the trailer then it won't handle the road. The math, physics have been applied to this, checked with dial indicators. Regular transom savers are minimal help at best, and can be harmful.

I'm sorry, guys. I know I'll get some flak, but that will not protect your transom. All the DD26 does is support the motor. Even with it installed, it will not relieve motion or pressure on the transom. The first aluminum product he presented is the best one.

From what I’ve always read, stern drives don’t need support because the trim systems are heavy duty and the drive is the only thing it is supporting unlike an outboard.
Are steering stops necessary? If there's proper hydraulic pressure, it seems they're unnecessary. You may not respond to this since it's an older video. But it'd be much appreciated.

Be glad to help analyze the dynamics here, you also need to understand what the brace on the trailer your roller ball is on can handle. In my case I would do more damage to motor/transom and trailer with the old style than using the DD26. Be a great physics problem to analyze forces.

The motor acts as a big lever that torques the transom as you're going down the road. Hitting potholes exacerbates this. The DD26 supports the motor in a position that has far more support, reducing the mechanical advantage that the motor has as it exerts force upon your transom when bouncing while trailering.
