Last time I grew my hair out was to try out the man bun undercut. It was an easy goal since it didn't require that much commitment to grow to the "bun length". I always kept my hair short, so it was intriguing to see what would happen. I didn't know about proper hair care though, so I washed my hair every day, conditioned it too and used unnecessary products to style it. When I reached that "bun length", I was losing hair like crazy. One pass though it with a comb and there was tons of hair, and I also noticed it started thinking on my head too. So I cut it with size 1 again. Not long after I started wondering what long hair would be like again, so I started researching, and your videos helped me a lot. I started washing twice a week, sometimes once (depends on how dirty it gets because of gym, job etc.), started using higher quality shampoo, conditioner and coconut oil. So far I'm 5 months in and it looks so much better than last time (also because I left out the undercut, so far I'm letting it all grow), I see much less hair in my combs and it feels good too. So I just wanted to say thank you, your videos motivated me to keep with it and dedicate some time to learn about myself and my hair.

So, I used to wash my hair pretty much everyday for my entire life (I'm now 27) because nobody ever told me that that is not how you're supposed to wash when you're in the shower. I used to have nice, smooth, pretty straight hair which would fall down the sides of my head. Now, however, my hair is extremely frizzy, especially in humid conditions. I reckon I have type 2c low-porosity hair from the information I've gathered. Now, I started growing out my hair almost a year ago and I have about 7 inches worth of hair on my head, wavy towards the roots and more curly towards the ends. Until recently I never really paid much attention to hair care, but I figured maybe I can ake it easier to manage if I use the right products and the right routine. At the moment, after doing a fair bit of research and some converesations with hairdresser's, I currently shampoo once a week, usually in the evening after some kind of sport activity. I use conditioner in the shower every day, either pureology for damaged hair or l'oreal coconut extraordinary oil mask. I dab my hair a bit and add in a home made salt spray, then towel dry my hair a bit paying attention to not scrub, and just dab and scrunch. Then I add a smidge of 100% natural coconut oil from the supermarket and use my fingers to spread through from root to end. Sometimes I use a boar bristle brush but I've heard it may damage my hair, especially when damp. Then I just let it air dry. I think I'm getting fairly decent results but still my hair tends to kind of just sit there and not fall down the sides, and I reckon I could still improve y routine somewhat. Any tips?

This is awesome. So easy to over-complicate hair-care with even 1 uncommon option (like dyeing/lightening - way too many steps in addition to regular ones). And the more you damage or customize your hair, that much harder it gets to manage it. Here's some useful general hair-care information, in addition to this video's: - Straight/wavy: coconut oil is awesome, and generally cheap. You can have a shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask with it (untested). 3 times the protection (giggity). You can even cook with it (assuming it's coconut oil ONLY, not a hair-care product with it included)! - Any type: wash less often (as reviewed in this video). Regardless of hair type, don't make any extreme/sudden changes (except healthy ones, like better ingredients), to allow your body to adjust to them. - Any type: still want to shower everyday, but not ruin your hair? Use some sort of shower cap. Not sure, but there are specific hairsprays/products for those who sweat/produce too much scalp/hair oil - which you could use under the shower cap (as per instructions). - Fine/high-porosity: use coconut oil-based leave-in conditioner (as per bottle's and video's instructions). - Use a silk or silk-like pillowcase. It helps keep hair shaped smoothly and optimal. They're cheap on Amazon.

I've been doing it all wrong it seems. I have oily/combination, thin, fine hair & not sure about going 2 or 3 days without washing it. But, I'm going to try this weekend and use the techniques I just learned. I haven't had my hair cut in 15 or 16 months due to Covid. Going next weekend to get it shaped up without real length taken off. The PDF is great BTW. Thanks for the video.
Hey , I really like your videos and find them really helpful for my current situation :) Could you do one video about hair brushing ? When it’s more necessary and when not? Because I have fine hair for example and by brushing the hair I get the feeling that they get more greasy and that I lose more hair. For which hit types it’s better to brush more/less often? Would be really helpful and interesting to know , love your content 👍🏻
I like fresh smelling hair. I can't imagine waiting 2 or 3 days to wash it. I also don't want to drag dirt and pollen and smells my hair absorbs and oil onto my pillow. That's a great way to aggrevate your allergies and any skin conditions - especially acne and blackheads. Also, most partners will appreciate a daily wash and clean smelling hair. This no wash thing seems to be a weird fad. My hair is semi coarse and wavy and oily at the scalp. I use a gentle shampoo. I massage the shampoo into the scalp to clean and stimulate it but I stay away from the ends and just let the shampoo rinse out through them. Then i put a natural conditioner with coconut and other oils on the ends and allow it to penetrate for a minute before rinsing. It seems to work for me. And I get zero tangles and no breaking. I also sometimes rinse with cold water. It's good for your skin too. This guy has fine hair so he has to baby it. His routine apparently works for him since his hair always looks nice and he clearly works hard at it. And it helps to be handsome. Lol It's important to tune your hair care routine to your hair and scalp and lifestyle and health considerations (and significant other). There's no one size fits all. I hate to say it, but the best thing to do across the board is stay away from the blow dryer. It damages your hair at any setting except cold and then what's the point. I let mine air dry. Then just as it's almost dry, i gently brush it against the style. Then 10-15 minutes later gradually brush it back into my final style. That gives it volume and shape. It's easy. It just takes an hour.
i think most of the people that say don’t shampoo everyday still use a cowashing conditioner daily and throughly clean and rinse the hair with cold water. the conditioner and hair oil sprays make the hair smell nice
I like to shampoo twice a week. On Monday I use Biolage then on Friday I use tea tree shampoo. After showering I put coconut oil. Then in the morning I put leave-conditioner for during the day.
I busted up, at the Voice Changer!!! I ❤️ it! Your video, about Hair Type, that's the One, that helped me determine how to care for mine. It's my Ends, from using a Blow Dryer for years! I just placed my Order!
Trav I haven't seen you talk about different brands of conditioner on your channel. I seem to use so much, so I'm using cheap stuff (Dove). Wondering what you recommend. I have very similar hair to you, just not that long (yet!) Please do a video about conditioner types/ingredients/brands!
Use a shower filter too like Sprite or Aqua Bliss from Amazon.. they remove excess chlorine and chemicals in your water, they are better for your skin too.
I stopped the video to comment. English is not my mother language and when it comes you to suggest items to put on our hair and to put their picture on the right side, that just confuses my mind. (Do not misunderstand my intention on speaking directly. I am trying to be simple en efficient in my comment) Also in some of your videos I heard you saying something like “use no products and see the best result” which is the main ideology of my hair growing in 3 years. When I first hear that from you and saw your amazing researches in your videos that was the day I told myself that we men are actually good people in our hearts. What I am trying to tell is that I support scientific researches but I am also a true lover of natural beauty. I would love to see more videos about growing hair in the most clean and natural way and supported by efficient scientific researches. I will now continue watching ty Trav.

Only shampooing 2 to 3 times a week is no problem when your not sweating 8 to 10 hours out of the day, I had to start shampooing much more often when I started working at my normal job again having to exposing my hair to the elements a good portion of the day.
I am West Asian and my hair starts to get oily the night after washing my hair, and on the second day it looks like my hair is clumping together. It smells like oil too, drives me nuts.
Man your videos have been a lifesaver. Thank you so much for all the research and help you provide the community. Any ideas for a good shampoo for more oily hair?
Trav whats your thoughts on scalp brushes? Do you use them as part of your hair wash routine? Or would you only use one for short to medium hair and the longer it gets just stick to fingers/hands?
I have hair down to the middle of back (used to be down to my ass) and I have been using Shea Moisture Restore and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner since 2019. I recently changed to Pete and Pedro's volumizing shampoo and Peppermint Shampoo and conditiioner. Both have made my hair better and it's a lot softer! I also have tried their other products but this is the one that definitely works for me
When you say wash 2-3 times a week do you mean with just shampoo and conditioner but other days just water and no products or on the other days don’t even water wash?
He made a video that water also damges your hair... So you must not wash or rinse your hair with water. Only wash it if you are gonna apply the shampoo and conditioner
Hello, Trav. I'm 25y old female. I ve highly porous, dry, thin, brittle, wavy hair. My scalp is very dry as well and I ve tiny-particle dandruff. I used to color my hair as well, since I have premature graying (14y). For two years I performed massaging my scalp with fingertips every day, shampooing and conditioning with ogx products, applying castor oil and black seed oil masks. After such a routine, my hair quality was tolerable and I was able to comb my hair. But then, I moved to another country and stopped performing all of this. I had to cut my hair very short. Why is it so difficult to get long healthy hair? Its so time and money consuming to get normal hair.
Thank you for this video. I have a very similar type of hair as you and i've been strugling for years to find the right products for my hair. Love these videos. 👍
Ive had long hair since covid started and was wondering why it seems like im losong so much hair when i brush and wash. I usally only wash it one or twice a weeks because of all the frizz. I bought some formulate, all in one milk oil and a b&b curling cream. I have very similar hair type to yours so finger crossed this fixes all the issues ive been having.
I'm an every day washer, basically because I sweat a lot. I have type 1 and 2a, fine, dense, with high porosity, oily scalp and dry ends. How do I keep my hair fresh and smelling good, on the days I don't wash? And how do I keep it from getting all over the place while sleeping (I twist and turn a lot).
Travis, you're full of great information. Thank you. Question: in your opinion is it ok to put a little bit of conditioner (a good hydrating one) in your dry hair, style it as though it were product? It makes my hair silky and compliant but I don't want to inadvertently trash my hair.
@@TravWhiteStyle hmmm no, come to think of it. I have leave in stuff but conditioner feels so nice and soft. Plus I have this notion that if I just condition for a looong, long time, it's good for me -right? Lol
Just downloaded formulate and bought my set from your link thanks to you. I have long hair that I grew for about 2 years now and I have had trouble getting my hair balanced and always ends up frizzy which I hate.
My biggest problem with growing my hair is that it bunches up like I'm a mix of 2 b and 3a and I'm coming from a high fade so I know its not gunna grow evenly but I hope these videos will help
I have a question about applying coconut oil before shampooing: Do I need to apply it right before the wash or is it possible to do it like 6 hours before and then wash it? Thanks very much for the video :)
Everybody talking about the awkward stage. What that even mean.I hadn't experienced nothing like awkward while'st growing out my hair.I just let it grow.
I have a very hard time not to wash my hair everyday. Physical job (not in dirt or something, but sweaty), gym, Minoxidil... I tend to geht oily hair somewhat fast and this seems or at least looks pronounced since I grew my hair out...
So I have a question here. On days where you're not washing your hair, do you use conditioner or are you not supposed to do anything at all with it in the shower?
Is getting hair wet in the shower, but not using shampoo and conditioner still considered a wash? Trying to figure out if just getting it wet could strip the oils.
I workout 5 days a week and feel that I need to shampoo after each workout. Is this ok? Should I still try to only shampoo 3-4 days a week? Can I clean my hair and scalp after a workout without shampooing? I feel like my hair is dry and I wonder if it's because of shampooing too frequently but I feel like my hair is too oily and dirty if I don't shampoo after a workout. I do use conditioner all the time as well as a light leave in conditioner.
So my question is when I try to go 3 to 4 days with out washing my hair I still like to get it wet when I have a shower or bath, plus I think it helps me to style it better or rest my hair. Is this a right or the wrong thing to do? As some times mainly on day 4 it starts to feel greasy.
What if I choose to condition my hair on the days I wash it . Meaning conditioning my hair every other day .I'm I'm thinking about using sulfate free shampoo once a week . Does that sound cool ?
I have very thick hair and I have time to use my hair straightener. I have to it kills my hair so I need a product that will put nutrients in my hair but also help. Grow it and not kill it. No I do use cooking coconut oil on my hair. Wants to twice a week and I leave it in for 4 hours and then I wash my hair out. What should I use to make it better
I am currently using the Old spice thickening shampoo/ conditioner combo lol... Any feedback if it’s good or if there’s a better thickening combo out there ??
I don’t know if you will respond to this because this video is a couple months old, but what I usually do is first cycle my hair with conditioner, then shampoo, then conditioner again. I plan in the future to use the coconut oil product you suggested as a pre-wash protector and use my normal cycle; would that be wrong or should I use your pre-wash, shampoo, and conditioner cycle? Also, my hair is very similar to yours where it’s fine, slightly wavy, and medium porosity, but my skin/scalp is on the slightly dry side.
Man this company is so dope! I have such a hard time finding shampoos that fit me, but unfortunately i live in canada and they don't ship out the US, i'm pissed...
but I have problem I need to wash my fine hair without any volume every other day (if I want to go between people, because it gets oily quite quickly) but rest of my hair feels dry and it breaks quite easily, also when I apply hair oil I get oily hair even faster...so what can I do with it? 🙄
Pls help me, in the last weeks I used shampoo for dandruff oil hair, but now it seems too dry, and my hair becomes apparently dirty very soon than before... Is it normal?
Hello, Thank you so much for all the info, I’ve found it to be extremely helpful. I’m just confused about something, I have a naturally oily scalp and dry ends. Once I’ve shampooed and conditioned my hair, do I first of all comb out all the tangles when it’s completely wet? Then add in the leave in product once hair is damp? I believe you mentioned to let my hair type air dry naturally? Also shall I apply a grape seed oil to the dry ends? Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi Trav! Can you make a video about ingredients in conditioner since most of your videos talk about shampoo😀 Is it okay to use a drugstore conditioner with a non sulfate shampoo? (I have a high porosity hair) Thanks!!
Is really the nape of your neck the most oily? Because when I touch my scalp on the top of my head my fingertips get oily but not on the napr. Also, I washed my hair yesterday, is there anyone else that gets oily fingers by touching their scalp?
So my hair is almost totally covering my ears, but not quite long enough to tie up. I don't care how it looks right now with quarantine, but in the morning its a complete tangled mess. My hair is fine and slightly receding at the temples, so I want to avoid unnecessary combing and brushing. What's a good way to keep things controlled at night until it's long enough to tie back?
when you say wash do you mean like with shampoo? or with water? because I take a shower all the time. but shampoo every 2 to 3 days and I notice my hair is super dry.
I REALLY HOPE SOMEONE READS THIS. I was at a store and they had Tree mint shampoo at a supermarket, but it's a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. is this ok? or is separate products preferred?

3. How to dry your hair or style your hair after shower?
4. How to maintain it every night and every morning until next session of shampoo and condition?
Thanks In advance.
Lol Cobain is my hair inspiration😅 i love his grungy care free style!
Love that you have a recap by the end of the vid. Very comprehensive. I'm a woman but i love you hair vids!
Hey , I really like your videos and find them really helpful for my current situation :)
Could you do one video about hair brushing ? When it’s more necessary and when not?
Because I have fine hair for example and by brushing the hair I get the feeling that they get more greasy and that I lose more hair. For which hit types it’s better to brush more/less often?
Would be really helpful and interesting to know , love your content 👍🏻
Love the voice crack counter. 😂😂😂
I can’t even differentiate his normal voice to cracked voice- or maybe it’s just me.

Hey Trav, what is the difference between hydration and moisturizing shampoo? and which is better for dry scalp? Will hydration help at all?
Thank you Hair Jesus, now I understand better in taking care of my hair.
*wHeEze*
Oh daaaaaaang, learning about the blow drier is a big game changer 😳
can you make a video on "How to do keratin treatment at home" ?
Trav I haven't seen you talk about different brands of conditioner on your channel. I seem to use so much, so I'm using cheap stuff (Dove). Wondering what you recommend. I have very similar hair to you, just not that long (yet!) Please do a video about conditioner types/ingredients/brands!
Use a shower filter too like Sprite or Aqua Bliss from Amazon.. they remove excess chlorine and chemicals in your water, they are better for your skin too.
Curly haired people can use a defuser attachment on the hairdryer to dry their hair.
Thanks for introducing me to Formulate. I'm excited to give it a try. I think the customization option (especially the scent) is pretty amazing.
I stopped the video to comment. English is not my mother language and when it comes you to suggest items to put on our hair and to put their picture on the right side, that just confuses my mind. (Do not misunderstand my intention on speaking directly. I am trying to be simple en efficient in my comment)
Also in some of your videos I heard you saying something like “use no products and see the best result” which is the main ideology of my hair growing in 3 years.
I shampoo once in less than 2 weeks. in between, I use fresh aloe vera and apply it on my hair every 3 or 4 days.
I just started to follow you about half a year ago, and WOAW! You are the best! Already learn so much from you! I'm growing out my hair as well, haven't had long hair since I was 12! 🙈 I have tried for many years, but doing to people's comments and some conservative parents it never happened.. But doing to your videos I'm on my way! Almost long enough to make my first small man bun! Keep up the great work all the way from Denmark! 🇩🇰
Only shampooing 2 to 3 times a week is no problem when your not sweating 8 to 10 hours out of the day, I had to start shampooing much more often when I started working at my normal job again having to exposing my hair to the elements a good portion of the day.
Keep it going bro, you're gonna be huge!
I get collagen and biotin shampoo ! It works great, it has added some much-needed volume !
I am West Asian and my hair starts to get oily the night after washing my hair, and on the second day it looks like my hair is clumping together. It smells like oil too, drives me nuts.
Same I’m Asian too and that’s my problem
Trav recommends a clarifying shampoo and luke-warm water for oilier hair.
@@milfnaevis1480 that can’t be right surely !!! I need to wash everyday man wtf
I wish you went over combination hair types
Trav that PDF about hair types is awesome.
I was gonna cut my hair but after coming across your channel I decided to keep the hair flowin
Loved this video and the sponser. You are so genuine with us man. 💪💥
Hey man what do you think about a double cleanse so like you wash your hair 2 times with shampoo or isnt that necesarry?
Ive had long hair since covid started and was wondering why it seems like im losong so much hair when i brush and wash. I usally only wash it one or twice a weeks because of all the frizz. I bought some formulate, all in one milk oil and a b&b curling cream. I have very similar hair type to yours so finger crossed this fixes all the issues ive been having.
Im italian so my hair is genetically greasy as hell and everyone tells me to just shampoo less, so hearing another solution is good to hear
Hey trav coule you please recommend me some book for the wholesome knowledge of hair?or maybe any source from where you got all these information
Have you tried a lightweight leave in conditioner?
@@TravWhiteStyle hmmm no, come to think of it. I have leave in stuff but conditioner feels so nice and soft. Plus I have this notion that if I just condition for a looong, long time, it's good for me -right? Lol
Just downloaded formulate and bought my set from your link thanks to you. I have long hair that I grew for about 2 years now and I have had trouble getting my hair balanced and always ends up frizzy which I hate.
what's your opinion on formulate now you've used it?
Wow, ur videos are perfect!!! Congratulations! I’ve learned a lot by watching them!
I have completely damaged hair ..what should i do?
What if you go the gym every day, find after a work out my head gets irritated with sweat.
My biggest problem with growing my hair is that it bunches up like I'm a mix of 2 b and 3a and I'm coming from a high fade so I know its not gunna grow evenly but I hope these videos will help
Pls make a video on how to remove hair products after keeping at the end of the day
I have a question about applying coconut oil before shampooing: Do I need to apply it right before the wash or is it possible to do it like 6 hours before and then wash it?
Thanks very much for the video :)
I usually apply 20-30 min before shampoo
This guy deserves more subscribers
Everybody talking about the awkward stage. What that even mean.I hadn't experienced nothing like awkward while'st growing out my hair.I just let it grow.
I have a very hard time not to wash my hair everyday. Physical job (not in dirt or something, but sweaty), gym, Minoxidil... I tend to geht oily hair somewhat fast and this seems or at least looks pronounced since I grew my hair out...
So I have a question here. On days where you're not washing your hair, do you use conditioner or are you not supposed to do anything at all with it in the shower?
i have the same question did you find the answer to it?
@@nauman.3035 no i did not
Is getting hair wet in the shower, but not using shampoo and conditioner still considered a wash? Trying to figure out if just getting it wet could strip the oils.
hey did u find the answer to your question cuz i have the same confusion
Thank you for the vids! Qq, on no wash days do you wear a shower cap and not wet it?
i have the same question did you find the answer to it?
Hey man your video motivate me at ackward stage when I'm confused should I grow or not
Great video with a lot of info for every single hair type. Thank you!
Awesome video! It answered all my questions, thank you so much Trav ^_^
I am currently using the Old spice thickening shampoo/ conditioner combo lol... Any feedback if it’s good or if there’s a better thickening combo out there ??
It is safe to wash hair 3x a week and applying coconut oil daily ?
I don’t know if you will respond to this because this video is a couple months old, but what I usually do is first cycle my hair with conditioner, then shampoo, then conditioner again. I plan in the future to use the coconut oil product you suggested as a pre-wash protector and use my normal cycle; would that be wrong or should I use your pre-wash, shampoo, and conditioner cycle? Also, my hair is very similar to yours where it’s fine, slightly wavy, and medium porosity, but my skin/scalp is on the slightly dry side.
So if you have curly hair or a perm, I can air dry? How much water should I get out of my hair before letting it air dry?
ok, how did you know I'm growing my hair cause I'm a nirvana fan?
Great vid as always. Also, yesterday's Q&A session on Facebook was very informative. Thanks for that. 🙏
My pleasure bro!
Trav, what kind of hair dryer should I look for if my hair is thinning?
Pls help me, in the last weeks I used shampoo for dandruff oil hair, but now it seems too dry, and my hair becomes apparently dirty very soon than before... Is it normal?
Hello,
Thank you so much for all the info, I’ve found it to be extremely helpful. Any help would be much appreciated!
on the days we dont wash your hair should we use a shower cap or still use water but just not shampoo and conditioner?
Do you wash more when you use hair products like wax?
I’m totally bald why am I watching this. Also you’re scary good looking. 👀
😂😂😂😂
Hi Trav!
Can you make a video about ingredients in conditioner since most of your videos talk about shampoo😀 Is it okay to use a drugstore conditioner with a non sulfate shampoo? (I have a high porosity hair)
Thanks!!
Is really the nape of your neck the most oily? Because when I touch my scalp on the top of my head my fingertips get oily but not on the napr. Also, I washed my hair yesterday, is there anyone else that gets oily fingers by touching their scalp?
I'm about to get the buzzer out. This is too much I had a cow lick that ruined my day yesterday lol
Just bought the ogx biotin and collagen shampoo and conditioner, hope it helps, would you recommend, and thanks for the last reply
Do we put coconut oil in the hair only before a shower where we use shampoo or before every shower?
im sorry, i dont use shampoo, one time max per week, shoukd i stop showering, but i get sweat after working iut, what shoukd i do,
So what do you do the days you dont wash it? if it has that head smell ? perfume? oils? whaaaat!?
when you say wash do you mean like with shampoo? or with water? because I take a shower all the time. but shampoo every 2 to 3 days and I notice my hair is super dry.
A pity Formulate is not available in France 😢
I REALLY HOPE SOMEONE READS THIS. I was at a store and they had Tree mint shampoo at a supermarket, but it's a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. is this ok? or is separate products preferred?
