The key to growing your hair out is forgetting you are growing it out. If you exert every single ounce of energy to get every inch, the whole journey will take A LOT LONGER!!!
I've tried growing my hair out like three times and let me tell you, the biggest thing for me is just getting a trim when you're tempted to chop it off. The trim makes it feel and look so much better and that's just the encouragement I need to keep going
I realize this is a channel designed for men's hair but I enjoy it as I learn alot about the science of caring for hair. FYI- I have fine, medium length, abundant, wavy/with some curly hair sections. Also like men that wear long hair.
Definitely good to know these things, as no one tends to talk much or teach about it. I'm a victim of buying 'all in one' shampoo & conditioners that claim to be cheap and best, but apparently they are so bad that it causes problems, because you are supposed to at least shampoo and condition separately and as needed. I do think they should have smaller amounts as well because when you find a product you like, you only really have to try it 1 to 3 times to see whether it's good or not; rather than be stuck with some bottle of junkthat cost liek 10 to 30$ you used a few times and don't like to use. Reality is clearly, that not knowing how bad it works, and trying to simplify things that should work separately, tends to cause more problems.
CurlyHairBro here I can confess to def seeing your hair and saying hell I want that. Now I realize it's going to take a long time to grow. So I just let it grow naturally and let it be.
Let's face the facts guys. As someone who's hair is now around 14 inches long from the scalp... My awkward phase lasted for about and close to a year. It's all about how patient you can be. The best thing I did was use caffeine shampoo which did work for the first few months of my hair growth... For the first few months.
@@mosab88m yeah! Sorry it took me so long. This is just what worked for me. I took Nature made extra strength (I didn't know they were extra strength) along with a One A Day vitamin which already has biotin in it. I was trying to get a nice beard ready for a competition and I took two biotin vitamins and a One A Day for 3 months. I can definitely say it worked for me. I can't say if it'll work for everyone lol

I'm currently 7 months in and let me tell you all somthing. Im not using any products that will speed up your hair grwoth the secret of growing out your hair 100% naturaly is just let it grow and be aware it might take some time. Also drinking water and such helpes a lot And use the right shampoo for your hair style myne is 50% mixed with stylish and wavy And for that a daily shampoo is highly recommeneded( not 100% strip based like 60% strip base is good!)
@@alicodm5120 True true. And not only that your hai will be damaged durning the proces and People dont say let it grow naturaly as you can and besides that your scalp will be damaged as well if you use to much of those products
Two questions: when you say your hair "style" is half wavy and half "stylish", what exactly do you mean by that? If you're talking about hair types, "stylish" isn't a hair type. Are you saying half of your hair gets he y styling products put into it? The other question: how are you determining how much "strip base" is in your shampoo? How are you distinguishing between (for example) 100% and 60%?
@@naughtmeinam4603 to awsner your 2 questions first off my hair style is mixed and second the strip base from the shampoo i'm using is good and it dosn't strip all off my hair oil

Great video! Love to see science used! I had my hair cut in mid May from waist length to neck length and in the few short weeks following it's grown about 3-4 inches. My secret has always been to wash my scalp, not my hair, since the scalp is the root of healthy hair and only wash once a week or as needed. Shampoo used to wash the scalp flows through the hair during rinsing and removes an appropriate amount of dirt and oil without completely stripping the hair. I never wash the hair itself. I use a light amount of conditioner as needed and brush once a day just to style and remove shed hair.
Keep going man I am at month 9/10 and it’s worfit man but unfortunately my hairline is suffering but if you all good keep going man I love long hair so I’ll firm it lol

I'm Indian so we naturally have thick wavy/curly hair. My hair has lost a little density because I went through a continuous period of stress for 7 months. I think that had to do something with it i'm not sure. There isn't a night and day difference between my hair now and what it was back then, but whenever I go through stress it thins a little. It will grow back, i've just been using texturizing products to give it more volume and fuller look till it grows back. Do you think because of my stress period my hair lost a little density? My hair is about to touch my shoulders.
Another great video Trav. It's surprising guys how your attitude towards your hair has to change in order to grow it out, it's almost as if you have to stop "thinking like a short haired guy", and become more attentive to the processes required to nurture the growth of your Mane. Once you relax into it, it becomes surprisingly easy..., just follow Travs advice, and you'll be onto a winner!
I have a problem regarding shampooing, the thing is that since my hair is so frizzy by nature, I use an oil based pomade to style it so it looks appropriate and presentable, the oil feels really conditioning and softens my hair and also gives some hold and texture. But this also means that I have to shampoo it everyday to get rid of the product. I don't think my hair feels brittle or broken, but I also don't like having to wash it everyday, but since my hair is so thick and frizzy I feel that a styling product is necessary. At least I use a moisturizing shampoo that is meant to use daily according to the brand, and I also use davines conditioner that is meant for coarse and frizzy hair, and also with my oil based pomade, maybe these 3 factors are why my hair is still soft even if i shampoo it everyday?
Great content as always Trav! Do you have any tips for swimmer's hair? We are in contact with chlorine every day for several hours and I have noticed that this damages the hair. Do you have any advice regarding the type of Shampoo/Conditioner and something to apply before entering the pool? Cheers from Italy 🇮🇹
I took biotin , it made me feel awful . I'm now 12 months in and nearly there with a full bun . I started from an undercut as most do so just waiting for my sides to grow. Never used conditioner and wash it with shampoo twice a week , the only thing I ever use in my hair is a good quality sea salt spray. Great video as always. Also, thank you! You was one of my inspirations when I first started my journey.
Actually, when I was around teen, shampooing everyday with head and shoulders grew my hair quite fast. I dont know if thats just me. And then I saw that shampooing is actually bad if done everyday, so I tried that. But then I started to flake/dandruff. So I went again with shampooing everyday to remove that dandruff.
I've made the mistake of always using a leave in conditioner in between wash days wondering why my hair had so much product buildup and flakes now I know. Thank you Trav you really are a lot of help.

I grew out my hair for the first time in grade 8 (I cut it after two years) and it was no problem I did t even feel like cutting during the awkward stage. And I think why is because when I was in the awkward stage I just accept that I look like crap and I was in 8th grade so I just did not care what I looked and by the time I got to 10th grade I looked amazing.

I have really thick coarse hair. But for the first time I've been growing it out. The top is probably 7inches now. I cut the sides not long ago so now the sides need to grow to length also. I wish it wasn't dry and coarse tho. When I shampoo it afro's out which sucks. I hope it gets long enough tho so I can Ponytail it.
I got a little trim a couple of days ago and my hair feels and looks a lot better and more healthy. Before the trim my hair would constantly get tangled. Love the vid Trav your hair looks great as always
I grew my hair for 1 years starting the summer before my senior year and I loved it but I realized it was so damaged and I wanted to dye it bit I would have to color strip it first. So I cut it all off in May 2020 and by 2021 I was in the fluffy awkward phase but by 2022 I am where I was 4 years in the first time and it's much healthier cause I've been taking care of it. It's crazy how some basic things worked so well like keeping moisture in by braiding it in the winter cause I moved from the wet California coast to the dry north dakota winters. And man has it helped doing even basic hair health. My only problem now is the top of my hair isn't as curly as the back and the sides caus ei have to have it tied back so often.
I understand the theory of over shampooing/conditioning, but what if you use products in your hair to style it, daily or almost daily? Do you still recommend to not shampoo that often?
You deserve wayyyyyy more subscribers. Keep it up you have probably the best channel for content on long hair guys. Could you do more videos talking about how to do hair and masculine styles? Mines getting to that man bun stage
My determatologist , and i am female, when i had lost my hair, due to covid, dr told me to use coconut oil and He put me on Vitamin D and Biotin, and it worked for me, i had mine buzzed cut, to stop the fallout, and that is what he told me to do. Coconut oil for me was a god send, mine grows faster than most peoples do any how, and i do not use conditioner cause i use coconut oil, and my hair is very very dry, and i only wash it once a week. oml i cant believe anyone would wash their hair every day, no way, once a week thats it, dont need it with the coconut oil on my scalp, as you age, like me, my hair has always been so dry, and since my hair is grey, i can get away with it!
Hey, so I have my hair to about my shoulders, with some layers and It’s shorter in some spots, I like having long hair but I find myself always wearing hats, and the hair is usually in my face because of how my hair lays, god forbid It’s windy that day, should I let all of it grow to a similar length to avoid hair in my face or is this permanent?
So I use a little product everyday like a cream pomade to help control my top knot/ bun. So now i run into product build up , so i condition everyday , and shampoo every 3 days. What routine do you rec for someone who uses pomade products? Plz help brotha!

I don't know why I'm watching this, I'm bald
Hey man I am losing hair on my temples I will look into vitamin D and Biotin
dude thank you. i have been watching your videos lately and has helped me very much. underrated channel, definitely subscribing
Hopefully you read my comments but you should also do a video on benefits and cons of protective hair styles
i use a wide tooth comb to brush my hair, if i have too , but i never ever use a brush on my hair, iuse my fingers to get knots out if i have them
Hey, so I have my hair to about my shoulders, with some layers and It’s shorter in some spots, I like having long hair but I find myself always wearing hats, and the hair is usually in my face because of how my hair lays, god forbid It’s windy that day, should I let all of it grow to a similar length to avoid hair in my face or is this permanent?
I just have a problem. Whenever I try to grow my hair out, the problem is that my sides get poofy. I don’t know what to do.
So I use a little product everyday like a cream pomade to help control my top knot/ bun. So now i run into product build up , so i condition everyday , and shampoo every 3 days. What routine do you rec for someone who uses pomade products? Plz help brotha!
Good video, Trav.
I have a request for video.
I have recently started using minoxidil, and it requires a clean scalp each time before the application. So I have started shampooing my scalp daily cause I wunna maximize absorbance.
I know this isn't your domain, however I'd appreciate a guide how to optimally apply minoxidil and clean it. 🙏
i am growing my hair out too, but the ends are getting dried or frizzy any tips?
Put some argan oil on the ends of your hair and brush it through slowly to spread it. Avoid the scalp though
@@TravWhiteStyle thanx man👍
@@mutahharmohsin5662 You might be due for a trim, you should check to see if you have any spilt ends and go from there. And if you don't need a trim and your hair is just dry follow Trav's tip.
@@sadieadler4383 yeah,i need a trim but again after 3-4 months they again become frizzy at the ends.
@@mutahharmohsin5662 You need a light trim every 3-4 months then.
Can you make a video about reducing volume for curly hair ? If not making a collab with a curl specialist. Even a girl
Why would you wanna do that? Volume is what gives curly hair and what makes curly hair so special. The reality is that you can never have too much volume please embrace it.
@@sadieadler4383 I have too much volume and I want to reduce it.
@@izkmky2811 Well we can trade places then because I want the most voluptuous hair in the universe and you can have my flat dull hair.
@@sadieadler4383 take my algerian curly hair. Too much volume
Very inspiring starting my second Journey.
Im thinking of starting to grow my hair and these are some good tips
Don't forget about that 50/50
Edit: Talking about diet, watching your diet would be good instructions in itself
If you work in an environment that makes your hair smell like cooking, or cigarette smoke. I’m a in-home caregiver and I’m in different peoples homes so I get into different situations that make my hair smell. And I’m waiting to wash my hair less. Any advice on what I can do. Of course I can’t change my job lol.
Give yourself 6 months before deciding on a style. I’ve grown my hair out 4/5 times in my life and from experience is to wait until the 6 month mark. By then you’ll have enough weight and be able to do something with it. 👍🏼
I had my first trim in 8 months the other day, the goal is full man bun
Thumbs up for pronouncing all those chemicals in one go without messing up. The grin after was great. XD
My hair gets dry very easily - how many times a week do you reckon I should wash it? I went to the doctor and asked if it was dandruff or Seborrheic dermatitis but they simply said it was just dry scalp. Any recommendations?
Don’t use shampoo with sulphites use mild shampoo. Don’t wash it everyday it’s unnecessary
Your the best hair guy on youtube.
I rinse my hair with water daily and uae Shampoo once every 2 to 3 weeks and that is it.
Hi Trav! Just now I was playing Monster Energy Supercross 4, and your intro music started playing and I immediately thought of you! I love you man! ❤️
I heard that wet hair should not be brushed because it is weakened. Is there any truth to it? I am a curly guy.

Hey Trav! What do you think of the "No-poo method"?
I took biotin every day and all of my hair came in thicker but the rate of growth was pretty similar.
I've read that b vitamin supplements can cause breakouts from other people's experiences and that's why I've been hesitant on trying biotin. Is this the case for you?
@@sadieadler4383 no acne for me but ive heard of this
@@sadieadler4383 it depends. So like he said if you're eating healthy and getting those vitamins from your food you won't need it. If you do need to take it only have 250 MGS a day or every other day. It'll take time but it really does work. If you take the 10,000 or higher you'll most likely break out
My hair is about 1-1.5 inch long and my goal is to grow it. Should I tie it up daily guys?
We seem to have a similar hair type. What shampoo and conditioner do you tend to use on a regular basis? Too many options for me to land on a single one for myself.
Dude, if your the fella in the profile pic then you have an insanely nice flow. Props 🤙🏻
Does fish oil supplements help ??
Respect to you Trav.
You're an inspiration.

I hope you make more videos about face shapes and what beard/hair type suits best.
Just can't figure out my face shape type 😅
I know these videos are a dime a dozen... but man did I need this upload to keep me on track
My bangs are constantly in my face
I still don’t know my hair type not really. I got the pdf when you first released it and watched the video. Yet I still get confused.
Can I just go to a hair stylist and ask them. Or would they not know?
Hi I've been growing my hair for a little.while but it's mainly my scalp and back of head growing not really the sides that we'll
Here most of people notice hair shedding when they grow long
Here’s a tip grow a bit nail and clean it properly before you gently rub on your scalp believe me guys this actually works may your 6-20hair falls which is usual but your hair strength increase
My hair is curly and I’ve been in the awkward stage for what feels like forever. I literally just need like an inch more for it to be perfect.
Is it safe to use Argan Oil daily? And can I use it on dry curly hair on the days where i do not wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner? I only wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner 3x a week and the other 4 days I do not wash my hair
Hey buddy big fan of you from India. hey plz make a video on curly hair guys how to maintain and some growing tips does and don't,this will help alot
Used to have looooonng thick hair but over the last 5 years I've been doing like a pirate style and the last 2 years i've shaved my sides and dread the hair on top and I do it so often that my hair is very fine and doesn't grow so fast as it used to. Something that i just accepted so I'll have to shave it all eventually.
Love ur content, very educational. There's this product I've been wondering of purchasing called Nioxin, claiming it can help reduce thinning hair. Would u recommend this product?
It’s decent. I’ve used it. I believe it has parabens though. Do your research and see if you’re ok with parabens
What do I do if I have dandruff and sweat a lot like go to the gym how do I not shampoo every day if I don’t my dandruff comes back
I am currently growing my hair. Bc of a condition i have (dermatitis seborrhoeica) i don't use conditioners or any other thing in my hair to not create buildups, and shampoo it every other day bc it gets really oily still for some reason... I would like to be able to take those two days that my hair does not get that greasy but idk what to do...it's not too bad but it's not good either, one day is perfectly fine, second day i maaaybe need to use dry shampoo if i have to go somewhere and want to look clean
Most self explanatory but they all make sense at least
