The entire LP is one of the greatest hard rock albums that exist, a "desert island" album for me. Ritchie said in an interview he wished the bass volume was higher and he wished he could remaster it. Cozy Powells iconic drums really stand out, like that intro to Stargazer.
appreciate all of your vids... saves me hours of listening over and over to figure out the small intricacies of these different groups. it finally gets me playing them correctly instead of close enough....
Just went to listen to Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, and in the comments found someone whose dad bought them that cassette in the 90's when they wanted to learn guitar, and said they still didn't feel like they were as good as they wanted to be. So I gave you a raving review as a guitar instructor (one of my two favorites) and to check out this video in particular. Thanks for all you Dave! ^-^
Thank you for doing this overview of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Ritchie is all too often overlooked in the pantheon of the Guitar God Greats. Lots of others get more press, but not many had his level of technique, improvisation skills and melodicism. He is a one off.
Loved Rainbow … saw them live several times from 82-84 … actually got an autograph from him and a picture with him during the straight between the eyes tour … I think it was Frank Marino, Triumph, and Rainbow on the bill in Norman, OK … and then met him and the rest of Deep Purple on the reunion tour in Wichita, KS … we actually stayed at the same hotel … he was pretty reserved but cordial in person … love the lesson and the trip down memory lane … 😎
Thanks for your lessons man. Love to watch you & learn. I’ve been putting in a lot of time, enough to start moving up quickly. Much appreciated my friend
ThanX a lot Dave. Great, wonderful lesson which guves us a spotlight over few sublties and genius touch from the Master. I hope to see soon another episode with exciting licks from Ritchie following the old previous about Deep Purple Mk II 1972. Kepp on with your great work Dave!! Your Channel is one of the best (if not the best) ... no doubt!!
Thanks Dave! A teen from the 70’s I got to see them in 78 or 79. He wasn’t a big influence on me but after that show, I changed my ways! He was so clean and articulate I swear I could hear every note and chord instead of just loudness. He was the 1st to teach me the importance of dynamics vs I need to turn up🤣 Best damn channel out there Dave🤘
Your always doing this David! You always get the best riffs & ideas from so many players! It also just happens to be most of my favorite players too! Another home run for the Brewski !!
I have watched alot of content of Ritchie, and i have noticed that he has a good sense of humor, he is a complex person, and to a certain extent he is misunderstood. A funny asshole he is.
It's ridiculous how many classic riffs Ritchie was able to pull out of that same little 3rd fret box. Speed King, Smoke, Highway Star, Silver Mtn, Long Live Rock & Roll. I know there's others I'm forgetting. You could do a whole lesson on just those!
Hey Dave, thanks so much for this episode! I've been a huge rainbow-fan since the 80ies. Fantastic songs and band, despite of all these changes. Kill the king, Since you been gone, Death ally driver, ... You could go on and on.
Wow! And now, only a few hours later, 'Since You've Been Gone' has popped up in another video, the only Rainbow song I'd really known so far - and it turns out it's not even a Rainbow original but a cover of a Russ Ballard song! 😳 😄
Agreed! And yet somehow he seems to be able to combine being a genius with being a little bit of a massive Bell-End at the same time! .. Now that is genius! ... Um, hang on.... Err..uh. etc etc
Love the channel. Good ear on the hybrid picking stuff, been jamming man in a silver mountain riff nonstop after watching this. I just made 666 likes🤘🏼
Always awesome lessons David! Ritchie Blackmore has always been a great player, for Deep Purple and Rainbow! I've always heard that he was kind of an ass too lol! 😎🎸
I got the impression that he has his anxieties. Check out the video on the making of Smoke on the Water in the version to support the victims of the big earthquake in Armenia.
Killer lesson. Great job learning all those parts. And great playing. I really like Ritchie's playing. I thought he and Dio made a great team. And I remember a giant billboard of Straight Between the Eyes on a local record store wall. Also of course the cover for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Some kinda magic going on there.
The '95 and '75 versions of "still I'm sad" are really different. The amped up live versions from the mid-late 70s are still the best. I remember as a young 7th grader who had no knowledge that alternate tunings or capos even existed...A 440 was ape law in my world... trying to to figure out "rainbow eyes" and just being completely flummoxed. Same thing happened to me as a kid trying to play Aerosmith "no more no more" in standard tuning just going....w..t..f??? Haha
So true. Back in 70's there were only lame piano transcriptions. I often wonder how anyone figured out these songs. I recall struggling for years to play the intro to the Rain song, never knew until years later that Zep or Stones had alternate tunings. Young people today are lucky to have videos, tab and smart guys as teachers here like David Brewster's channel!
Rainbow (and Blackmore) rules! You could easily do a part 2 etc. Kill the King. Stargazer, Gates of Babylon.
Rising, a top 10 Rock and Roll album.
The birth of Power Metal.

Seriously, who gives this a thumbs down??? Excellent vid!!!
Drummer?😂
Accordion player 😂
Ian Gillan probably (I'M JOKING!)

Ritchie Blackmore got me started playing guitar. Deep Purple Made In Japan. AWEsome record.
Ritchie's the man.
Agree 100%. Highway Star and Smoke on the Water just peels the freaking paint off the wall at full volume on that live album.
First riff absolute classic Ritchie Blackmore.....love it....:-)
Just when I thought you couldn't get any cooler, you post some Rainbow! Hell yeah!
Their live album Catch the Rainbow is my all time favorite. Thanks Dave.

Ritchie is a genius! 🔥
Ritchie Blackmore sure can make a strat rock

Fascinating to watch and learn. Thank you.
Killer lesson as usual. Another legend. Thanks!
Excellent video! Spot on. I like the way you present and explain the songs. Cheers, M.
Thank you again Dave. Mr. Blackmore is a powerful unique musician . You just did him justice. Part two will be greatly appreciated.
Deep Purple 2. Brilliant!

Another good one,thanks David 🍺🍺🍺😉🤘
Come on David! I'm still getting used to the last brain melting lesson. 🤯
Great lesson 👍 thank you sir.
Richie's a wizard now I think 😉

Thank you. Ritchies playing on Machine Head got me started on guitar.

Excellent thanks. Must revisit some of those partial chords in rainbow eyes!

All night long is a great tune too, w Graham Bonnet on vocals. Ritchie said at this point he wanted to make money so wrote radio friendly tunes.
I love it, David!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!
Just one thing 👍great playing David
That was kick a$$! 🎸
My favorite Rainbow album is "Rising".
Every song off this album is great but my favorite one to play is "A Light in the Black"
Love it!
hits me straight between the eyes when she open's fire...
10:35 - interesting that it sounds like "Sharp Dressed Man" but I've never heard Gibbons talk about Deep Purple, Rainbow or Blackmore (?)
Love the channel. Good ear on the hybrid picking stuff, been jamming man in a silver mountain riff nonstop after watching this. I just made 666 likes🤘🏼

The Live version (On Stage) from "Catch the Rainbow" is phenomena and way better than the Studio version.

How about a futute episode of Tony Iommi and his "interludes" / segues / instrumentals that are fingerpicked?.....just a thought
Maybe you could look into Popa Chubby for a three for all......love the lessons. Best guitar teacher i ever had
Yeeeaah booii… !
Before the rainbow 🌈 got saturated with- THE WOKE! We want our rainbow back!
Lol yep!
Richie is badass
When do we hear the Late Night Lessons of David Brewster?.....
Probably my first real guitar Hero.
This is real rock guitar - no tapping bullshit!
