David....I'm not one to post messages too much on any sort of "forum" but I couldn't keep quiet any longer. You have, by far, the best guitar related content on RUclips. I'm sure I'm not alone with that opinion. I really look forward to EVERY new video, no matter what type of music. There is always something of interest in each and every video. Lastly, I would love if you covered some of your own "David Brewster" released material (ie: your favorite riffs, licks, etc from your own music). How 'bout "Within A Dream" or "Diablerie"...? Well...already can't wait until the next video!
Yup could not agree more. Been following him for over 2 years and decided to take out a patron subscription partly because of the tabs but mainly to give a bit back . My playing has come on no end since he began putting out material . Sometimes I wish he put a bit less out to give me more time to work with it. The problem is that every piece of content is a winner . He also seems so bloody likeable as well as talented.
@@paulmarchman5024 I especially like the weird lead/riff in Napoleon Bonepart 1&2. That thing where he bends the G up a step to hit the same note on the B? Weird so good! Always descending. Reh Reh Reh….Reh Reh Reh….
Love the "Gang"! Excellent stuff. Is there anything you can't play? Best lessons on RUclips by far. The variety of bands and styles is simply amazing. You've got me checking RUclips everyday for new material. I am definitely a fan. Keep it coming. How about some Humble Pie? Thanks again Mr.Brewster
I just dove into their first album a couple of months ago. I love Collage, and see it as the clear forerunner to The Confessor, another one of my favorite Walsh tunes!
Funny! I’m in the middle of watching Devils Rejects, as I type and James Gang is on the soundtrack! …And your notification popped up with this! …I swear, we’re in a simulation! …I like your channel, dude. You’re way underrated!
I recall as a kid in Junior Highschool watching Zechariah. lol, I'm showing my age. I have only now discovered this RUclips channel - a great channel. Very entertaining and informative. How could I not subscribe!
Thanks Dave. Love when you slap me in the face with history. Not to mention the knowledge you throw in a 25 min video. You have taught me so much over the past year. Cant thank you enough.
Getting back into Bolin I picked up a two album, single-disc CD of the two James Gang albums he was on. He wrote almost everything on them and sings two numbers. A couple of the tracks, "Got No Time for Trouble," and "Red Skies," come from Bolin's band "Energy," which didn't put out an album, but did make a demo. He was a total force and those albums are a delight to me. Classic '70s rock, but enduring.
Awesome episode. I first heard the James Gang back in the early 70’s and those funky rhythms and riffs have influenced my guitar playing ever since. My favourite tracks are from the live at Carnegie Hall album. It would be great if you could continue series with an episode on Stop and Your Going to Need Me from that album. Another favourite is Ya Dig which leads into Stop from the first greatest hits album. Thanks again for these classics…
Country Joe playing to the Township, while his roadies sneak around the back of the Bank to rob it! What a crack up! Saw it the Drive-In in Melbourne Australia when it was released! Led me to a lifetime of listening to Joe!
THANKS FOR SHARING THESE CHORD EXPLANATIONS. I ALIVE JUST 12 MILES EAST OF CLEVELAND AND KNOW AND HAVE HEARD MANY OF THE GUITARISTS WHO ARE WELL LOVED. A FEW YEARS BACK NOW (2018) ONE OF THE EARLY MEMBERS OF JAMES GANG PASSED AWAY, GLENN SCHWARTZ WHO AS I UNDERSTAND WAS TH EORIGINAL GUITARIST, YET NOT WELL KNOWN FOR THE MANY GREATS OF JOE WALSH'S ERA. THIRDS IS MY FAVORITE ALBUM, THEN THE LIVE ALLBUM. THE ONE SONG THAT STICKS OUT FRONT IN MY MIND FROM TOMMY BOLIN'S TIME WAS "MUST BE LOVE". I AM GOING TO LISTEN TO THE MIAMI ALBUM, ALTHOUGH I APPRECIATE YOUR SPEAKING HIGHLY OF "HEAD ABOE THE WATER". IT IS A SWEET SONG, AND REMINDS ME OF HOW THE BAND EXPLORED VAROIUS STYLES. WHAT ABOUT THIS GUY? Domenic Troiano w/ The James Gang. LISTENED TO, "The Wear And The Tear On My Mind", WHICH IS ANOTHER GREAT SONG THAT DOMENIC PLAYED GUITAT AND ALSO VOCAL. THANKS AGAIN.
I got a looper pedal because of your last video. …Slayer it was, right? I wish you’d explain what you’re doing a little bit more for the rookies but love hearing you play, man. 🤘
Joe Walsh! Man one of the Greats! I remember those songs once upon a kid's summer ! '"Funk#49 "& "Walk away" we're always on the radio! I always loved Joe Walsh! Great pick David!
Glad you showed me the correct way of playing Collage! I played it in 72 in Junior High in standard tuning with variations of E minor the went to A then G back to A minor ! Joe's voice was awesome in that song! Would like to see how you play other James Gang songs from Yer Album Fred,Stop, Blue bird Etc.
I loved the James Gang. Joe had some great songs and was an innovative player in his day. Thanks so much for putting those songs and riffs under the microscope. Ok, quick Joe Walsh story. My cousin is a pretty big music executive and he once was introduced to Joe, and Joe says, "Hi! I am what's left of Joe Walsh!" I guess that was a not so subtle way of acknowledging what Joe had done to his body during those serious party days.
Head Above Water reminds of Tommy's song Wild Dogs. The acoustic number at the end just oozes fertility for so many things: But one song that could have borrowed from it is that New Jersey John Bongiovanni cowboy song. Descending part reminds of a part in Dwight Twilley's I'm On Fire as well. That Part: I remember the feelin' that I could be free Now I know it could never, never be me
Love the James Gang saw them in Buffalo New York they were the mid slot on Black Sabbath sabbath bloody sabbath tour Tommy Bolin on guitar. They were phenomenal.
AWESOME video as always!!! I can't believe you name dropped the ZACARIAH movie! That movie was "repackaged" and advertised like crazy on my local TV station here in San Jose CA around the mid 80's as a Don Johnson starring vehicle. He had just been featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine due to his newly found MIAMI VICE fame so I guess the powers that be blew the dust off that old western and showed it several times over the summer of 1985. You have my utmost respect for having watched the whole thing.......I couldn't do it. 🤣🤣😆😆😜😜
Ok Dave ……. I see you in a James Gang Tribute band OR a resurgence of their music 🙏🏼👍🕺. Holy heck I need to dust off my vinyl (again) …. Thank You Sir 🙏🏼🎵🎵🎵
David - you’re the man!! James Gang The Bomber showed me how heavy Walsh was prior to Barnstorm. Was wondering if you could do Chordplay of The Yardbirds (Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page) think that would be one hell of a video. Thanks. You’re the best, thank you for what you do!!
Hi, Patrick Culley wrote the words to Collage. "Green for the eyes" is a reference to his girlfriend, Mary. Mary is the girl who sang "Midnight Man". Small world huh?
18:13 - 18:18 I can really hear the tone of your Les Paul in that D chord riff - man , nice growl and thick mid range (at least to my ears) . You should do a video sometime just jamming out to a loud higher watt amp setup and let that guitar sing - I'd love to hear that!
The Bomber.. i gotta say that song had balls of steel in 1970 compared to a lot of other hard rock at the time. If Joe had brought these pile drivin riffs over to the Eagles, Frey and co. Wouldve cried home to their mommies
Oh and I play the bomber with cowboy chords until the e at the end, E major twice to G major once to D major once to E major twice to E power chord slide, try it.
You want a movie starring a musician that makes no sense? Neil Young "Paradox" on Netflix. I watched it twice. The only thing that makes any sense is that it ends.
I prefer the Joe Walsh version of James Gang but I did buy an LP 'Straight Shooter' which was right after Joe W. left and before Tommy Bolin. I'm not a big Bolin fan, he wasted his talent on a needle!
James Gang ...with Joe....Kicks major butt...thanks bro

Excellent David! Please do a Chords of Budgie, Tony Bourge had some great licks and they should have been more widely recognized back in their day.

Excellency lesson. I actually saw James Gang live when I was about 16. I learned a couple of things about Funk #49. Cool!
I just dove into their first album a couple of months ago. I love Collage, and see it as the clear forerunner to The Confessor, another one of my favorite Walsh tunes!
Ah my 80s remenicient late night channel......love Joe and the Gang....thanks Sir!!
Best funk 49 I've seen yet. If you listen to Joe he really hardly ever does it twice the same. He's really just jammin. Well done dude!

Zachariah was my first taste of James Gang (saw it on TV when I was 9 or so), but it was the Bang! album that really grabbed me...
My now favourite guitar channel thanks David for all the great content so many artists to me to investigate now.
I've been watching this channel since the beginning, and love the history commentary in each video. Don't ever change that, Thanks B 🐓!
I just found this video and really dig it. I just subscribed and look forward to seeing the rest of your channel. Thanks.
Sir, you’re right hand is a gift from God. Hallelujah! Thanks for the rockin’ videos :)
Thank you so much man. This is so much fun to play! I love it.
I'm a huge Walsh and James Gang fan. These albums seem to get overlooked but they are great. Awesome lesson, thanks David!
Im trying to remember when (if) you have played acoustic ! Love it. Thanks Dave. You throw so much knowledge on us. Thank you.

James Gang/Joe Walsh!!!!! Thanks, David!!!!

Thanks for all the inside information on James Gang. Some great playing you did there, too. Great feel. That stuff is difficult to play right.

The Brewstmeister is back with a bunch of badass brilliant bangers!

Good stuff, DB! Btw- Try chicken pickin the lick on Funk #49. There’s a YT video where Joe discusses how he does it. 🎸🖖🏻
Was hoping to hear you play The Bomber in its entirety. Maybe next time. Los Lobotomies (Steve Lukather) did a killer version on the album Candyman.
David. Please do some bill nelson from modern music or sunburst finish
I think Skynyrd borrowed a little from head above water ?
Love your channel! Killer playing and thanks for doing the homework for us! Haha
What amp do you use?
Terrific video. And just a nod to Domenic Troiano as Joe's replacement. Another fantastic guitarist.
Oh man . . . For a second there I was hoping and praying for Alexis or Standing in the Rain, I'll settle for for The Devil is Singing Our Song though!
Collage has some very strong Wanted Dead or Alive vibes or vice versa
I'm really craving for a Bruce Bouillet licks because he has some licks.
The Bomber.. i gotta say that song had balls of steel in 1970 compared to a lot of other hard rock at the time. If Joe had brought these pile drivin riffs over to the Eagles, Frey and co. Wouldve cried home to their mommies
Elvin Jones (RIP) is a totally unique Jazz drummer!!!!
It was a hit
What setting and effects do you use to get the Joe Walsh sound?
Oh and I play the bomber with cowboy chords until the e at the end, E major twice to G major once to D major once to E major twice to E power chord slide, try it.
I think it's A instead of G. I'm not playing so.
I have the same t-shirt from the Who.
Glenn Schwartz.. awesome manic guitarist
What’s that opening jam?
Where are you broadcasting from, brother?
💥
Do one about Glenn Schwartz !
15:26 Dear Prudence...
Subbed because you like Joe. Joe was my first guitar hero when I was 7. He was way better than his contemporary, Jimmy Page, who outright sucked.
To his question…….Joe Walsh WAS James Gang!
Elvin Jones story is pretty funny.
You need the chords of Chad,my chords
You can't be done because Dunn's in California!
I could hang out with you man, wanna grab a beer :)
