Abandoned RAF Base INCREDIBLE DISCOVERY at RAF Aird Uig

- In this video, I discover something pretty amazing at a spooky abandoned RAF base. RAF Aird Uig, Scotland.
Earlier this year, during one of my many visits to the Outer Hebrides, I took time out to explore the spooky remains of an old RAF base on the Isle of Lewis. Nothing could have prepared me for what I found.
Whilst this sounds a little clickbaity, it isn't. I really did discover something quite extraordinary. I decided not to release the video before today for a very good reason. I don't want to spoil the surprise but it's important to read the disclaimer in the video.

I have created a blog that goes into a lot of the history associated with the ex-military base. I have included many fun facts too
Plus you can take a closer look at the many images I captured.
I hope you enjoy the video and feel free to leave a comment.

Gary i am on Harris and Lewis in two weeks time, i am goiing to have to go and take a look now... thats AMAZING...
You’ll love it 👍👍
Very exciting and eerie video you are a brave man Gary to walk around in that place all alone and to climb down the stairs that looked really scary!! but it is also good fun to visit such places and try to sense the history of the place.
Cheers Christian 👍👍
You find the coolest abandoned buildings. That was pretty cool Gary and what a find.
Thanks 👍
Wow, super video and blog. Thanks for that Gary!!
My pleasure 👍👍
Pretty cool Gary thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍👍
Superb Gary! Watched in the dark with headphones on and could feel the wind and creepiness! 👻👀
lol Awesome 👍👍
This video was very good, very scary walking inside the abandoned building and seeing the door opening and closing by itself.
👻👻👻 It was a cool place though 😁
Fantastic video, my type of vlog. What a wonderful place to visit & you managed it just in time.👍
Cheers Mark 👍👍
It also packed a Type 80 long range radar with extra motors to cope with the howling gales.
Oh cool 👍👍
12.35 Those curtains! I remember them!
An Alladins cave so good to see stuff that jogs the old memory.
Cheers Harry 👍👍
I would hardly visit such a place on my own, let alone descending ladders into the dark. My mind would play all kinds of tricks on me. But really an interesting video which I appreciate to watch from a distance 😊😅 … cheers.
LOL I know what you mean 😁😁
Well I was scared for you and glad when you left that first building. Lets get back to the safety of long exposures 🙂.
In a couple of weeks Brenda 😁😁 Nice to have a change now and again
The curtains 😅😂 ... yup we had those 🤦🏻♂️
:) I can still see them 😁😁
@GaryGough If buildings could tell stories. It must have been amazing looking around, and guess evoked a few memories. Great video Gary, cheers
Imagine wandering around in there, turning round and there's someone standing behind you. They wouldn't even get a chance to say hello and I'd be out one of those windows, screaming like a little girl, a huge cloud of dust behind me. 🤣
You and me both :)
That’s awesome crazy to see all the guitars left like that such a shame
Cheers 👍👍
Just occasionally they get it better! Welcome to the T shirt.
Drove past that place in 1979 -- then a lot of signes Keep Out :)
There's a nice cafe' just a bit further on from where you were. 😊
I had my breakfast there. Cracking little spot 👍👍
Love you, Gary, top bloke…haha was just going to make a comment about the place being looted since being posted on RUclips. Then saw the disclaimer. I knew you were smarter than that….I knew it!
That's why I didn't release the video straight away 👍👍
Hey Up Gary, Very interesting video. What a find. Glad you enjoyed it while you could. I'm no expert but those guitars particularly the Stagg ones are some of the least expensive on the market, generally aimed at beginners. A Hoard none the less. Just think of the amount of servicemen/women stationed there who never appreciated the beauty we all can see. As Ever, Thank You.
Cheers Gary. I wouldn't know a cheap one fom a decent one 😁😁
I once had engineering responsibility for Aird Uig, part of 81 SU.
Was hoping for a QRA F-4K still plugged in.............oh well lol
looks like someone has rob a music shop and stored it there lol
I know it's mental 👍👍
Gary was you scared to go down the stairs 🤭
Wow what a fantastic place.
It must have brought a lot of memories back when you were in the RAF.
All the guitar's,drum kit etc must have been worth a lot of money.
It makes you wonder why anyone would leave all that.
Look forward to the next one.
Memories indeed. Cheers Tim 👍👍
Hi Gary. I thought you should know that your 'incredible discovery' here is a private house that someone broke into shortly before this film was made. I've emailed you about this and the man who showed you around, who is not a resident of Aird Uig and is no longer in the village. I'm not going to say anything more about that here other than that the police are investigating the break in as well as two other thefts in Aird Uig that may be related. Your disclaimer is not true. The house is very much still there and the owner has been informed about the break in (it is now locked again, as it was before someone kicked the door in). The building featured in the first half of the video is also closed to the public. It's owned by Gallan Head Community Trust who have been working hard for years to make the former RAF base safe for visitors. The 'graffiti' you criticised is a set of drawings from a community art festival that took place five years ago while the building was temporarily open. I think everyone here would appreciate it if you take this video down. It's misleading on numerous levels.
I replied to your email 👍
were is the second one
Second one?
sorry gary i heard it wrong now i get it 😅
i hope whover got the tools off the shaddow board left tags for them 😅
lol Great memories indeed :)
Wish I hadn’t watched this straight before going to bed 🫣🫣
I have the same First Aid Box 10:24, It was given to me by a GPO Engineer/ Amateur Radio friend. Must be std Government issue!
It definitley is John 😁😁
We had those same curtains in our married quarters in Germany. (Army) lol
We did too :) I was at Gutersloh 😀😀
Great to see places like that as when we was kids there was a lot of old forts that we could get into and it was fabulous looking around them.
Hi Gary, the curtains you mentioned were exactly the same in the Army, I was posted to Gutersloh (West Germany in 1976) and the RAF camp was the other side of the town and we visited quite often as you guys had a bigger and better NAAFI than us!
Really enjoyed watching the video Gary, keep up the good work :-)
New one for me, I was stationed at RAF High Wycombe 1983-86 as liason between USAF and RAF
It was to me too :) Cheers 👍👍
Enjoyed that have visited Lewis in the past did not know of this place I,m ex RAF you seemed to have joined as I left in 79 the nearest I ever got to this sort of Camp was Bishops Court Cheers
Showing your age now :) Cheers 😀😀
There is something strange going on here if that was R.A.F stuff in a airbase, we paid for that lot and when you mentioned a Paul Gibson guitar wow! say no more...
Mental stuff huh? 😁😁
15:18 as I person who lives in a city a laughed when I saw this chicken
lol They were everywhere. Way more than I showed :)
Battle ship grey for me. Makes a nice shave now!
😁😁 Cheers Frank 👍👍
In my time in the Mob (British Army) every think was paint egg shell lol
