I am now doing what I love instead of listening to people who told me I was incapable. I just wanted you to know that even if no one else sees your message you have changed my life at least. oh and I'm doing this very walk in a few weeks
Hope your achilles recovery is going well, it's a runner's curse! I've been recovering from back and knee problems for 18 months, but finally things are coming good... so good to return to the world of the active. I Agree Abbie is wonderfully motivating. Best of luck, Ian
Bringing back lots of memories. My late grandad was from round that area and talked about the railway. We went up the hills just south of Loch Lochy and saw golden eagles. Nice, especially the wild raspberries.
56:05 - You sound like Henry Thoreau musing in Walden "I was suddenly sensible of such sweet and beneficent society in Nature, in. the very pattering of the drops, and in every sound and sight around my house, an infinite and unaccountable friendliness all at once like an atmosphere sustaining me, as made the fancied advantages of human neighborhood insignificant, and I have never thought of them since. Every little pine needle expanded and swelled with sympathy and befriended me. I was so distinctly made aware of the presence of something kindred to me, even in scenes which we are accustomed to call wild and dreary, and also that the nearest of blood to me and humanest was not a person nor a villager, that I thought no place could ever be strange to me again." Love it!
Abbie, this was very inspiring for me, going through a rough time in life and being locked in with the Coronavirus...longing to be free in the wilds of Scotland. I’m going to choose joy, thank you so much! Brian, Loughborough.
I live in wales and under lockdown. your videos are helping me cope with it. I am I my 70s now and your love of life really keeps me sane. god bless you and thankyou
I just discovered your channel today while at home ill. I watched your video on the Highland way and the Great Glen way... and you are my new hero. You are articulate, artistic and strong. I aspire to be more like you. I need to start on my health journey and I'm going to incorporate more walking and these video's are inspiration.
@@elizabethford7263 Proofreading is necessary to express your exact feelings/thoughts. And I agree with you: Abbie is inspiring & I have shared her with family & friends. Great vibrant Health to you Elizabeth!
I've come to the conclusion that anyone giving this - or any of Abbie's videos a thumbs down can be summed up in one word... 'envy'. They must yearn to experience her vitality, enthusiasm, magnetism, her determination to overcome mental health issues and, finally, her infectious smile!!
I thought it was 13mins long when i first put it on to watch, wasn't til I was around 30mins into it that i realised it was 1hour38mins. Completely captivating, great video as always Abbie and great motivation for my West Highland Way trip tomorrow.
New to your channel. Have watched a few of your hikes now. It's really inspired me to get off my duff, and start hiking more. Crippled with pain, I sort of gave up on that part of my life. Your journeys have inspired me to start getting out there again. I can't do the kind of hiking you do...not yet anyway, but I am getting out. Where I live here in Canada, there is no shortage of trails and nature. Getting back out into nature has really boosted my spirit. My body may still be in pain, but my soul is healing
The great glen way is second to your lovely smile, I’m going to travel both walks soon am in Aberdeen and have been thinking about it all year ,, definitely now thanks again 🙏🇬🇧🏴
It has been a pleasure walking with you on part of your journey. Such beauty is just outside most peoples doors If you want to find it Well done Abbie. One Love to ALL.
So inspiring ~ I’m going to start walking everyday and build up the distance so that by end of you I can do multi day hikes like you do. I love nature but just need to improve my fitness a bit more to fully focus immerse like you do. Well done on inspiring so many to get back outside
Abbie - you’re a true inspiration! I follow several vloggers, and yours is my absolute favourite. If I’m having a bad day, or can’t sleep, yours is my go-to site! It’s the next best thing to being in the wild! Thank you! x
Some of the views were spectacular, your enthusiasm as always infectious, but what struck me most about this video Abbie is the quiet wisdom you gave us on this one. The choice in every moment to truly open our eyes and to see. To take joy in the beauty to be found everywhere around us. It is far too easy to get caught up in the destination and to lose sight of the pleasure of the journey itself. Great stuff. Stay safe and stay wild :-)
Beautiful video Miss Barnes, thanks for sharing it with us. I was able to visit Edinburg for four days, but couldn't go see Loch Ness. It's so lovely, and glad you filmed it so nicely so I could get a glimpse!
Just subscribed yesterday after '100 miles along the West Highland Way' popped up as a suggestion, and then this appears today - brilliant and thank you! :)
Beautiful Abbie.. I hiked the GGW when it first opened. Unfortunately I was wearing 3 season hiking boots and the flat terrain wreaked havoc with my feet and knees. I should have worn trail runners! The new trail was touted as a great introduction to a first-time LDW. But I disagree, as I found the GGW to be monotonous, and could put off any aspirant backpackers. The Speyside Way I preferred, as well as the West Highland Way. Just MHO! ⛺🎄🎅
Hey Abbie, I really enjoyed the film and glad it was a good experience for you. The UK offers some really unique walking experiences. Thanks for all the work that goes into things like this and for sharing. Cheers from Arkansas.

Try the Cape Wrath trail. Now that is a real adventure. However your video is grand. Your cheery disposition and enthusiasm is lifting and entertaining. BTW I'm a Scotsman who knows the country very well.
Abbie, another great travel narrative from you. Thank you such for bringing alive all the 79 miles of Glen Way. Another trail that will go into my must walk trails. Great work and god bless you. Albert Khoo, Malaysia.
Abbie, your videos are as good as any on TV and better than most. So well shot and edited. I’m glad they are often longish like this. Short ones end just as I’m really enjoying them lol. Stay wild, lovely sweet gentle lady.
Abbie, you've inspired me to do a through hike and after much deliberation I have decided I'm going to do the Great Glen Way. I am also now watching this video for the 4th time. Thank you for being the amazing person you are.
Hello Abbie, from Virginia, next to the Appalachian Trail. Your Intro in my first of your videos [the West Highland Way] and this one, has inspired me to share just the Intro with family & friends! Then I continued on "with you" along the Great Glen Way, then@ Meter: 8:46, noticing it is nearly noon, I decided, I better change out of PJs, get dressed, Gear Up & go out to our forest for another explore-adventure. Carry on Abbie, Happy Trails...
What a wonderful video. If that gets just one "new" person out there to put on some hiking boots and get moving, then you've done a great job. Somehow, however, I suspect rather more than just one will be tempted to take the plunge.
Just happened upon this by accident. I’m so glad I did, great video, great commentary, thank you for making the effort to share it with us. Great stuff, keep em coming.
This was a great watch , ive done the whw many times on the bike and not really appreciating whats around me , your knowledge of the flowers and the land and the beaming smile just inspires. Thankyou
It is gets better than wild raspberries if you're lucky - it's wild raspberries, wild blueberries and wild strawberries in one spot, at once. It's brain-melting nice. Thanks for another fun and beautiful clip Abbie
Brilliant! What a wonderful walk Abbie. My 72 year old legs could easily keep up with you this time. I was captivated by the water, the big skies and those huge lochs. The Canal and its towpath were great to walk along.. Thank you for taking me along. Your film and commentary were fabulous and the historical facts amazing.
Nice one. We paddled the Caledonian Canal in open canoes way back in 1994 or so. We met horrendous waves on Loch Ness, not aided by the bow waves set up by a ship! Your video brought it all back, thank you :)
Absolutely inspirational. I just watched both journeys in Scotland back to back, and loved every minute. Very insightful commentary too. Thank you for sharing.
Well, I came looking for video of the Great Glen Way to understand what was ridable on thin tires as I plan my 3rd John o Groats to Lands End journey (and not on the busy roads this time). After 90 minutes I didn't care anything about the surface and that's because I got lost and mesmerised by the great journey and story telling. Thank you Abbie, what a Journey.
The Great Glen Way was my last hike before the covid pandemic hit. What a privilege, what a beautiful walk. The memories and pictures from my walk helped me to to navigate through those 2 years of pandemic talk. Thank you Abbie for making me re-lived those wonderful memories. Scotland is a very special place. Definitely going back!!
