I live close to that parkway bridge , it is so nice up here. People take care of each other unlike anywhere else. Your name is your reputation. A handshake or a nod is as good as any contract . Jesus keep us safe and continue to bless the people of Allegheny County. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
A company my father worked for, Blythe Brother's Construction Co., built much of the parkway and as a child he would take me up to the mountains to watch the big machinery work.
Very interesting. I had no idea exactly how the Blue Ridge Parkway came to fruition. I understood it gave much needed employment. It had a beautiful outcome no matter what the beginning. Enjoyment for thousands.
What a wonderful video!! I love those mountains & the Blue Ridge Parkway!! I dream of one day moving back to those mountains. As the saying goes, "You can take the girl from the mountains but you can't take the mountains from the girl!"
The grist mills along the Parkway and elsewhere did NOT make flour. They ground corn into corn meal for local farmers and residents Flour is made from wheat.
I'm blessed to live only 10 miles from the blue ridge parkway at the NC VA border. Iv been riding the parkway for years. Truly greatful our Govt funded that project
I grew up in Watauga and Ashe Cos? Right next the the Parkway! I love it alto I have a fear of heights! Been to Alleganey many times! Love that part of the Parkway! My dad and other relatives helped build it at times! Proud of that!❤️😀🇺🇸🌏
I always love the story behind the story. Thank you for sharing. My Mama's people all lived in Asheville, Arden area. We went there every other weekend when i was growing up. We used to go to Sliding Rock too. So many beautiful memories in those Mountains.
It always bothered me that the milepost numbering runs in the "wrong" direction. Surveying conventions are that surveys run from West to East and from South to North. Not only is the BRP numbered opposite of this , but also Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park and the Appalachian Trail.
Every stone was drawn by draftsmen and carved to 1/4" tolerance with no two the same size. In fact, every bridge, ditch, drain, and roadway was designed and drafted to exact details.

Tennessee got a lot of rivers and dams built around the power plants so they didn’t get cheated out.

The house we lived in on 231 marker, was sold to my Mom and Dad by a woman whose Father actually came from Italy to do stone work on the Parkway.
How cool is that? Love it.

Are used to live in Swannanoawhere and the Blue Ridge Parkway was 2.3 miles from my front door and I drove it every single morning.
My grandpa helped the italian stone masons at the hwy 18 overpass and others. He said he kept their supplies ready and helped.
I was born and raised in these hills. We call brem, brim..Just thought I would mention that bit of information.
My home
Mine too
I think it only be fare to go the other way and do a pice on the Virginia side also.
I'm finally back home. Took awhile but I'm home.
I just came back home also.
Skipping North Carolina would’ve been dumb. Some of the best views in the gaps are in North Carolina.
