I have been using Aveda products for almost 15 years. I started using Reuzel based off of a new Barber suggestion last year but switched back to Aveda. After watching this Video i decided to try the Kevin Murphy and I have to say after working a 10 hour shift, the kevin murphy does hold up better. Love the videos, thanks !
I own Apothecary and Lockhart's, both are very similar. Lockhart's will give a bit more texture and more matte finish. Apothecary will give a tiny bit of a natural shine and a touch less volume
I own both and I have to use so much of the aveda clay to get any hold. My only problem with tough rides is the gritty feeling you get from the DE. Reminds me of the quick sand but a lot better. I prefer the thickening paste from aveda ironically cause I have super thick hair. sorry for the rant. AMAZING CONTENT AS ALWAYS

@f it’s pretty impressive. From packaging to quality. It is super smooth and goes in effortlessly. That being said, it has a wet consistency of sorts. If you prefer clays that are stiffer and have more wax content this won’t be your jam. It’s nothing like Rough Rider that’s for sure. Longer hair (6+ inches) might struggle a bit but using it as a pre and post styler will likely work.
Rough Rider is my fav clay of all time. So happy it won this battle. I love Aveda as a brand too, but the hold of the clay is just not enough for my unruly Asian hair

But when i DID have it the scent is definitely very sweet like caramel and could either be a hit or miss with many people due to how strong it is. The performance was great it held my hair in place if you use the correct amount for the amount of hair you have but if you accidentally use more than necessary your hair will start to feel like there's grains of sand in it. I'll most likely buy it again but first I'm gonna try night rider this time.

Other than that, I mainly got it for hold, and it does seem to do the job since my hair is somewhat thin and not very cooperative. So this may just be the product I’m looking for and will definitely continue using for a while!

There are at least 3 reformulations with KM Rough Rider, and they are quite different from each other. The first one is the one that has no hold/shine points on the package. The one with the toughest breakdown, highest hold, driest and actually has a matte shine; The second one is the one Robin is using, it has 3,4 oz on the package. It is easier to scoop out, has less hold, more oily, less drying with more shine; The third one has 3,5 oz on the package. The oiliest one with even more shine and has the weakest hold. I personally hate this version. I heard there is a 4th one and it has improved from the last one, haven't tried it though.
Hi, i like the rough rider for everything except 1 single thing which bother me very much...i dont mind the oiliness but this product is too hard to wash out...i used a total of 3 different shampoo over 5 times wash, 2 times conditioner to just get it 80% off my hair, btw i only used a fingertip amount. I spent at least 20mins scrubbing my hair for just trying to get it out of my hair. I like the rough rider for the volume for the easy application, however the hold is not as gd as i thought it would be but still acceptable as i need to keep combing my sides as it keep falls out..but the process of getting it out of my hair is too tedious..any suggestions on how to get it out more quickly?
Honestly, after trying to get into Aveda and getting discriminated against for my educational background, I'm not too excited to try their products any time soon.

I've also passed entrance exams for college, and been accepted into colleges. As someone who's been interested in getting into the cosmetology world, I decided to apply to Aveda. I live in Minnesota (U.S.A), and their headquarters is here in Blaine. The Aveda Institute is in Minneapolis, one of the Twin Cities. Unfortunately, it seems they're biased against homeschoolers. They'll say they have plenty of people with that educational background making it in the school, but I find that difficult to believe considering the challenge they presented me. Long story short, they gave me the runaround for at least a month or two after I did the initial tour. Couldn't tell me (or my mother) what documentation they wanted specifically, and in the paper they provide they ask for a list of three things (which I had: graduated high school, diploma, transcript). I provided those, and no one has gotten back to me for a week or two by now after the time spent with calls, texts, and emails. Before that their compliance officer asked for "what you have on homeschooling"... Which is nothing, because it's filed with the school district and we can't provide anything unless they specify... Which they couldn't. That leads me to believe they're either rather inept or making it difficult intentionally. The HSLDA, our homeschooling defense organization documents a particularly worse case than mine with an even more qualified example. I want to love Aveda! The school is magnificent, I've always wanted to try their products, and they're considered among the elite when it comes to learning cosmo. Yet my experience - and that of others - disheartens me and I wish more people were aware of the issue. They have no right to ask for more documentation than Harvard or Yale, and my communications with Aveda have been poor and problematic.

Morrocanoil gives a better dry gritty texture with insane separation in my opinion, and just washes out easier with water
