    I am almost completely certain that the 1964 nickel you pulled is simply just a proof and unfortunately not a SMS. While both do share some similarities, the main difference is in the fields of each. Proofs will be very reflective almost mirror like and SMS coins will not be reflective at all and appear more "Satin". Hope this helps but either way, still a crazy find especially for circulated rolls!! 👍

    Send the 64 nickel to PCGS to be graded. Then you will know for sure.

    That is a thick rim... keep it

  • @keymbord
    @keymbord Месяц назад +3

    I think the 1964 is a proof coin. The rim is thick on proof coins, and they also have strong details

    • @liamhuffman1896
      @liamhuffman1896 Месяц назад +1

      it would have a proof finish if it was a proof, that one has weird sharp details, but then doesn't have a proof look

    • @keymbord
      @keymbord Месяц назад +1

      @@liamhuffman1896 You can see some mirror finish in the video. It's just well circulated

    • @liamhuffman1896
      @liamhuffman1896 Месяц назад +1

      @@keymbord that's why he thinks it could be a special mint coin because it doesn't have a complete "mirror finish" on it. Also, the rim is a lot like a proof, but I think he can tell that it's not just a basic 60's proof, because it doesn't have that exact finish. That's why he think it could be a special coin from a special, rare mint set.

    • @troodon1096
      @troodon1096 Месяц назад +1

      Not impossible, I have seen some circulated proofs that still have sharp details but lost all or most of the mirror finish, and 1964 proofs were minted in Philadelphia (they would start minting proofs in San Francisco in 1968). Not seeing any wear though as you would expect if it had circulated enough to lose its mirroring, but... 1964 proofs didn't have quite as strong mirroring as you'd see in later proofs, so still a possibility this is a proof. Not sure if this is 1. a proof, 2. an SMS, or 3. just a really good condition business strike. Strongly suspect it's a slightly circulated proof is my vote, like... 90% sure. Might be worth sending to a TPG to be sure.

    Just finished a nickel hunt last night, result from one box worth:
    13 pre-1960 nickels, including 3 I needed for my set: 1939-D, 1940-S, and 1951-S
    2 Canadian, 1992 and 1998
    1 Buffalo: 1934-D
    about a dozen 2005 American bison nickels (been saving these but might stop soon as I have nearly 4 rolls worth lol)
    Still feels worth doing! Out of 6 boxes have found 2 silver (both 1943-P), 3 2009-D, 3 Buffalo (1925, 1934-D, 1936; the 1936 is in amazing shape and even has some luster left), 4 Canadian (1988, 2 1992, 1998); weirdest find was a nickel with a sticker on it that says "Buy 1 entree, receive 1 at 50% off, Country Buffet Restaurant, Support Salida Middle School expires 5/31/10" (obverse is covered with the sticker but can tell from the reverse this nickel is not older than 2006 and based on the sticker probably not newer than 2010). Was able to fill a Jefferson nickel album with every date and mintmark from 1960-2023 and found quite a few from the 1940s and 1950s and even a few from the 1930s.

    You got two 1941 Phil coins in this batch. Is it just my imagination or is the date on the first one shown out of alignment as compared to the second that was near the end of the video. I stop motioned them as best I could and it looks weird.

    Hard to tell Dave on the 64 nickel there but it definitely is much thicker.
    Probably half a gram heavier maybe?
