30 some odd years ago I was at the bank and an old lady brought in several rolls of half dollars. Her husband had passed-away and she was getting rid of the coins by bringing them to the bank. I told her she should bring these to a coin dealer, but she didn't want to deal with it. I was in line right behind her and took like six rolls from the teller. Every single roll was ALL silver coins.

@@kwilliams3225 this stuff happens more than you might think. I did advise her what to do instead but she didn't want to deal with it. I figured it would be better for me to have it than the bank.

Just talked to my mom she real old now and asked if she had coins she said yeah but she not taking the time to look thru it Dat I will have to do that.
My grandmother always told me to save a dollar a day. I never did. She, however lived to be 94. After her death she left a surprise. I am now 76, and remember her always giving my parents minerature Christmas trees made of branches filled with tied on Silver dollars. Upon her death they removed her feather bed uncovering a horde of 3 pound coffee cans filled with silver dollars. Not a few, but neatly stacked 3 cans high and six feet long and 5 feet wide. My dad's comment? "Surprised the floor held".
That is PHENOMENAL.

The only other time I saw this Sort of thing was a episode of Rob finds treasure. He was Still at the bank in his car, When he took a peek at a half dollar box he picked up.
Most of the rolls in that box were silver halves. Incredible Hunt and congratulations Dave.

Love it. Hearing the silver clinking like that in years. I traveled with the Carnival for 4 years and I bought them for face value. A collectors dream! Great finds!!!
I recall in the early 70's a friend of the family was an operator of heavy equipment. Prior to demo old houses, he'd search the area with a metal detector. He showed us blue mason jars of silver dollars he'd found. That got me interested in metal detection.
The only thing I found with mine were screws I'd lost while working on my 73 Challenger.
Must’ve been hard to contain the excitement when you were reunited with some of those long lost screws 😂

I've heard that before the JFK half came out, the half was a commonly-circulating coin, used daily in change. That's why the Walkers are so worn. However, tossing around those BU '64s and clanking them together harms their value.
Congrats on an epic box. A total of 23.38 oz. of sliver in the 2nd box, which is just a few cents shy of $500 at today's price.
I would have thought the OP would have done the math for us as to the value... in silver, and for some of those 1964 90% the range of their potential collector value?
Anyone who hunts rolls knows of all the slow disappointing days. And every once in a while, it hits like lightning !! Great Job Dave

James, I went thru a spell of 17 boxes in a roll without silver, so when you finally see a silver in that next box, it's a thing of beauty! Got my best box coming up soon!
Dave, I believe this vid. About 3 years ago, I had a box of dimes that produced 98 silver dimes: 65- Mercs, 33-Rosies.
I did a coin roll hunt of 2 yellow boxes about 5 years ago, it was my first hunt and I ended up getting 134 silvers out of them. I've been trying since for more. I probably will never have another like it. I just wish I would have gotten more boxes at that time.

When I was a kid, I had a HUGE collection. As in bigger than most adults ever have.
My kid sister got into the collection and grabbed the unsorted coins out and took them to church and dumped them in the collection plate. I saw what the coins were, and was trying to pull them out.
Imagine me taking money out of the plate while it is going by.
My dad eventually got with the preacher and just traded the plate of change for a "donation" lol

Holy **** bro! That is just mental, almost as much Silver in those two boxes as my entire silver stack 😂. Amazing to watch and thanks for sharing! I just wish we could do coin roll hunting here in NZ, even if it was just pennys or something, sadly all our currently circulating coins are just 1990 and newer clad and have almost no well known errors or varietys sadly. I agree with you Dave. I hunt 3,000$ in halves every week from my bank. I've gone several weeks with no silver and then a box with an occasional Benji or 64 Kennedy. I was finding almost weekly 40% halves but they are drying up as well. My best was 22 silvers in one pick . And one week I picked up $380 in customer wrapped that were filled with silver Canadian, pre 1968. That was my craziest find! I have as much fun as you do....I only search halves and quarters.

Awesome find! I totally believe this find. My best number is 64, but 52 were 40s, so the oz count was nowhere close. Best roll I ever found was hand rolled and was 18 Walkers. A guy died and his wife rolled it up and got $10 for it at the bank. That was 6 oz in one roll!

The contents of that second box was much like most of the boxes my dad and I were opening in the mid to late 70s. We opened every Saturday morning for years and finally cashed out for almost $40, 000 when silver reached close to $50 per ounce. I wonder, what the latest date you found in that second box. It could have been sitting around for many years.

Dude awesome finds ....I bought a $500 quarter box from the the bank and in it was a whole roll of 1999-2018 silver proof state quarters 90 percent and a whole roll of 2019 .999 silver quarters state parks and San Antonio mission and war in the pacific

I love collecting coins so from your influence I went to the bank and got only $100 of quarter rolls and found 5 W quarters and a couple doubled die, under the microscope. Thanks to you I actually acted on what I’ve been wanting to do, no silver obviously but it was only $100 but it was a great experience! Plan on doin it again!
Picked up a box not one silver but was super heavy on bicentennial and nifc still sorting coins but this is epic. Never thought to weigh them. Thanks Dave

Pretty sure the Google algorythm sent you to me. I've been trying to figure out what to do with a wad of rolled coins my late husband left me. Watching you, I now know better than to just take everything to the bank or to a coin dealer. I can safely deposit the face value coins and rescue the silvers for another use. Thank you.

I am very new to coin collecting. I wasn't sure until now how to tell silver half dollars from others. Thanks for making this video.
Back at the end of the 60s my brother worked nights. Our thieving cousin came over and boosted some silver quarters from his coin collection and went down to the gas station on the corner to buy cigarettes. When my mother found out she went to the gs and made the owner give them back. Mom was a momma bear!

My son and I have been watching a lot of roll searching videos so he decided to use his savings to purchase some rolls from our bank. He asked the teller if they had any 50 cent rolls and they had just 6 rolls and no boxes. Took them home and opened them and were amazed. Ended the hunt with 41 40%ers and 2 1964's! On top of that, one of the clad ones had a strike through error and one of the 40%ers has a clear doubling on the I and B in LIBERTY that I can't find any information on. So needless to say, he and I are hooked now. 😄

I been wanting to coin roll hunt for awhile...now that I'm retired, I'm heading to the bank tomorrow. Thanks for inspiring me.
Years ago I worked at a bank. A lady came through my line, middle age she had a cigar box. The cigar box was old and caught my eye. When I open the cigar box. It was field with the rolled dimes. There were some loose change in there 6 silver Benjamin, 50 Cent pieces, All in all every roll of dimes were mercury dimes at the end of my shift I bought that whole box! Almost 20 years later, I still have every one of those mercury dimes!
That was epic! Amazing find!!! Out of all these coins, what would you guess you would get if you sold them?

So COOL!! I was working in a convenience store and a guy came in and gave 4 rolls of dimes for gas, they were all filled with silver dimes!! I almost fainted!! :)

great find - I've enjoyed asking banks for rolls in the past - I just tend to treat them with a little more care
some were grade worthy and could bring in even more than melt value

Man! What a haul! My first time ever doing this (because I came across your channel and didn't know this was a thing) I found nineteen 40% coins and two 90% coins. I've gone through several boxes since and haven't found much of anything. I'm moving in a couple of weeks and one of the first things I'm doing is hitting up a bank or two for some boxes of halves.
