This is a fantastic video thank you! I struggled to understand the colour wheel, or appreciate just how useful it is! Tints of colour, warm colours, cool colours, colour complexity and adapting this to make it a bespoke experience, Im hooked now :O). Its a brilliant medium and product. Im so impressed by how comprehensive and visually appealing your explanation of this was. It was methodical but simplistic Ive watched it twice. I will also refer to it in future. Its saved me a fortune in guesswork and magnolia paint :O) Thanks for your hard work and gift for teaching.Look forward to more videos like this!
I've been watching for ages now you took me through the pandemic, and because of your teaching clarity, artistry and making all this work fun... I will be painting all my French flea market finds for our new/old home in France. Your tutorials have always been stellar but I learned so much from this one and feel so much more empowered to create my own colors and get creative with the colors I have. I wish you could take a picture of your demo today and sell it to us. You are truly unique and one of a kind, you've been a true gift. I'm retired and you've had a huge impact on this next chapter in my life! Thank you. In all my years on youtube this is the first comment I've ever left!
Oh wow, I feel truly honoured to have your first comment that has made this little painter a very happy boy and wishing you very well with your French furniture. I know it’s going to be gorgeous 😊😊😊😊😊
This was fun Jonathan. Wow, I counted sixty colors of which six you started with then added black and white to create shades and tones. I have yet to use chalk paint but after watching this particular video I want to go paint something and be adventurous. I watched you mix colors before for a challenge you were in and found that fun. This was even more fun. I do tie dye so I'm going to start experimenting with my colors and see what can be created mixing my own. have a great day!
I find it stunning that the mixed colors are so vibrant and not muddy. I've been struggling with complementing the wall color my wife picked to painting the furniture in our home to create the feel she wants. Ive now become the designer and custom builder of our furniture. Thanks Mark, You've made me her hero again!!!!!
This was a real masterclass Jonathon. I want a softish blush/pink that will play nicely with Coolabah and have been struggling to decide which red to use as a base. Your insight into the tints and tones has given me more confidence to play particularly with the more complex colours.
I absolutely love this tutorial!!! Amazing. I am quite a fanatic about the colors of blues. I live in the NE Panhandle of Florida in Panama City. We are not on the Gulf end of Panama City Beach but we are in town in a community called “The Cove”. We live on the St Andrew’s Bay. It is absolutely gorgeous here and we are still recovering from Hurricane Michael in 2018. The pandemic set us back a bit but we are moving forward. As I stated I love almost all blues but I use green very seldom unless it leans dark like a black. I adore pinks! And work a lot with blues, and pinks with brown. Usually accents of gold or silver. Watching you work with mixing colors I was absolutely impressed. Especially with the use of orange. (Of which I have none.). You have opened my eyes to see colors I never use become colors I have searched for; etc., coral. It is hard to find the right shade of coral. As I was watching and now dictating this message to you, I have no idea what all what was used or should be used to develop a shade of coral that is more on the reddish spectrum with pink undertones. I only found your RUclips channel this past week so I have a lot of watching to learn more of your gorgeous techniques and color combinations !! Thank you, John for sharing your knowledge and talent with us!!! Totally love your work!!!
This is brilliant. I think new capri pink, giverny and tilton will also a very good choice for primary colours, as they come closer to the true primary colours, magenta, cyan and yellow. Especially for those that would like to mix brighter purples, periwinkle and lavender shades. Also, you can get the most beautiful greens with yellow and a tiny touch of black. My favourites are the autumn and jewel tones, like mossy and golden greens, burgundy, petrol, emerald, gold, and warm neutrals, with hot pink and absinthe/arsenic green for a pop of colour. Colour mixing is so fun, thank you for reminding me! 🖤 I was about to order some samples, mostly greens and pinks, but I think I will go for primaries and a big pot of white instead. 🤩
You asked about if this changed our minds about which colour paint we buy next. Definitely, I will get some red, white & black. I lean towards the purples & teals. The last few you did were amazing
So creative and thank you for showing how to blend and create new colors. Gives me some confidence to try blending and creating new colors! Thank you Jonathan!!!! Love your videos, you are so so talented!!!
I’ve been trying to mix a colour to complement a wardrobe I have and have been struggling to get close to what I want without it being muddy. Your tutorial is great and I now know to mix blue, orange and white - it didn’t even occur to me to use those to get what I wanted! Thank you 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing! I've always been confused about the color circle and you made it pretty clear - motivated me to start practicing color mixing in a sketch book - thanks!!
This was extremely helpful! I was wondering what colors to begin with. The stockist suggested Old White, Scandinavian Pink & Country Grey. Now that I know how to mix the cool colors I like, I’ll buy those. I really want to try the new Coolabah Green!
Thank you Jonathan, I was one of the people that asked for an explanation of the Colour wheel. You have made is so easy to understand and I was amazed of how many different shades and colors you came up with. I am going to have a play on some sample boards to see what I come up with!! You really are a great teacher 😊
Great tutorial!! Thank you so much. I learned quite a lot. And, this will help cut down the cost of paint. I am definitely a warm color person, and that did not change. I found that I do like some of the warmer shades of gray. And I will always love blues!
You just made my day after a crappy time at work! Since your live video on Insta I was so looking forward to this tutorial and again just so much information. I did some mixing in the past but I really learned a lot tonight. Thank you!💚
Yes, I would always say mix a little bit more than you need or what you think you need so you don’t have that problem then whatever’s left over can be used in a different colour mix and so on 🙏🙏❤️
Love your videos. Can’t tell you that enough. I went and commented on an older video (one of the the first one I watched of yours) and I would love for you to have a look at it. Now… hummmm… which video was it? 😂 Thank you again for going over the color wheel with us! ❤
10:44 (Red/Yellow really goes pink rather than orange) *This is a result similar to what I get with Oils too.* I just buy a good Orange, it is necessary for my sky colors in some landscapes, I prefer they not be pink or wine, those just don't fit my desires with color nor the mood. 1:01:38 (Green/Yellow), then w/white
I don’t think I mentioned that I am remodeling our home in French or Country French with a coastal effect!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have all mahogany either antiques or almost. I would have already painted my furniture except I keep getting overwhelmed by what colors I should use. I do love Annie Sloan products and use them often. I also use some Dixie Belle and I love it!!

The last color was outstanding even if you thought an oops color! Excellent tutorial and very thorough. 🎉😊 thanks
As always, very educational. Thank you very much.
I love love the scary brights and had no idea they could make these gorgeous neutrals. This is a wonderful education Jonathan
It’s very clever isn’t it😊😊

Love Annie Sloan chalk paint, wanted to try others but have best results with hers
I have a lot of friends using Annie’s paint . Let them try mine and then sold. Have a great online order stockiest.
Love love love the way you’ve given such a detailed demonstration on color mixing! So calming and beautiful.❤

I’m so pleased it’s going to make you reach out of the box for some colour mixing and wishing you a very well for your next few projects 😊🙏😊
Jonathan this was so helpful ! I appreciate you . 💕💕
Very informative Thank you
I'm just at the point where mixing colors has occured to me...late bloomer...thank you for sharing your skill. I'm going to make a chart like this!
Is it great idea to create your own charge it really will help you when remembering what colours do you mix to create all of the other colours 😊
So creative and thank you for showing how to blend and create new colors. Gives me some confidence to try blending and creating new colors! Thank you Jonathan!!!! Love your videos, you are so so talented!!!
amazing.. back to basics. and what a learning experience. I need a soft pink had NO idea I could use green to create it. you are a miracle
Not sure that I’m the miracle, but the colours are most definitely the miracles😊😊😊
That was amazing, thank you for sharing your experience of colour 🎉
My pleasure thank you for watching and I hope this helps in the future when it comes to colour mixing x
I’ve been trying to mix a colour to complement a wardrobe I have and have been struggling to get close to what I want without it being muddy. Your tutorial is great and I now know to mix blue, orange and white - it didn’t even occur to me to use those to get what I wanted! Thank you 🙂
This was so helpful- I struggle with creating colours mostly for blending out decoupage papers- thank you
Absolutely, all my pleasure xx
That was super fun and extremely instructive. I tend to the warm mixes but I loved that last violety color you made
Yes, that was a wildcard really pretty of white red and blue
I love this tutorial! So clear how working methodically around the chart starting with the prime colors can really produce some beautiful colors!!
Thank you Jonathon have to finish watching later.
That will be my go to for help with color mixing mixing, thank you!
Beautiful colors. Inspiring!
Thank you so much for sharing! I've always been confused about the color circle and you made it pretty clear - motivated me to start practicing color mixing in a sketch book - thanks!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The colour mixing is wonderful & so helpful. I have been timid to try this & you just boosted my confidence to try.❤

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I think it has worked out well and I’m really pleased that it made sense quite a difficult thing to explain. 😊❤️
Great tutorial!! Thank you so much. I learned quite a lot. And, this will help cut down the cost of paint. I am definitely a warm color person, and that did not change. I found that I do like some of the warmer shades of gray. And I will always love blues!
I truly love the warm Grays and blues as well just don’t use them as often as I should ❤️🙏
That as fun. Def green for me !
I made a color wheel like this, back in 1988, in college. It is so much fun and zen to play with colors, creating a whole new pallette.
OMG Jonathan that was absolutely amazing, I am going to get those colours and make a few of the colours you made thank you so much for this tutorial
My pleasure, wishing you all of the very best with your colour mixing have fun 😊❤️🙏
This is so much fun!
You just made my day after a crappy time at work! Since your live video on Insta I was so looking forward to this tutorial and again just so much information.

You are the best!!! thank you💖👏
My biggest problem when mixing paint, I never make enough to finish my project , and cannot get the shade the same when using three or more colors.
Yes, I would always say mix a little bit more than you need or what you think you need so you don’t have that problem then whatever’s left over can be used in a different colour mix and so on 🙏🙏❤️
That does look like arles wow. I made butterscotch color with bar. orange and Arles and a bit of honfluer
That sounds like an amazing shade of colour ❤️❤️

I go pick up a project tomorrow that's going to be lemlem blends. I found a can of it at my stockist and been saving it.
Jonathan have you used rodmel on anything
Good question, I don’t think I have on its own, probably as a mix or an accent colour, but I can’t think to mind that I have done a whole piece
Hey, sorry I’m rubbish with my time zones, but if you look at the top of the screen it should say how long to go 😊😊😊
