"Silly Love Songs" is a song by the British-American rock band Wings that was written by Paul and Linda McCartney. The song first appeared in March 1976 on the album Wings at the Speed of Sound, then it was released as a single backed with "Cook of the House" on 1 April in the US, and 30 April in the UK. The song, which features disco overtones, was written in response to John Lennon and music critics accusing McCartney of predominantly writing "silly love songs" and "sentimental slush".[1]
The song was McCartney's 27th number one as a songwriter; the all-time record for the most number one hits achieved by a songwriter.[n 1] With this song, McCartney became the first person to have a year-end No. 1 song as a member of two distinct acts. McCartney previously hit No. 1 in the year-end Billboard chart as a member of the Beatles with "I Want to Hold Your Hand" in 1964 and "Hey Jude" in 1968.[2][3]
"Silly Love Songs" has since appeared on multiple McCartney greatest hits compilations, including Wings Greatest and All the Best!. The song has also appeared on the "Hits" section of the compilation album Wingspan: Hits and History. Despite its popularity, McCartney has not performed the song live since the dissolution of Wings.
The lyrics say it all. I don't know what it is about silly love songs, but I'm all for them. And I really like that Paul isn't shy about using the bass on this song.
I remember when this song came out my mother used to listen to this song in the car back in the seventies empress I was just a kid memories
Haha my mom used to sing this song to me at night
Chile we loved this song in the hood
This song brings back so many memories. I was 12 years old when it came out my little brother just turned 3 we use to sing it together. The family love too watch us. Looking back it was the beginning of my music career.. My whole family was musicians. Just came naturally.
So cool
"Silly Love Songs" was a gigantic hit back when. It topped the charts at number one and went on to become the song of 1976. I heard it on the radio so often back then that I can still hear it playing in my head whenever I want to -- that bass line, the melody, those harmonies, the disco strings, the horn riffs. Even so, new things stand out to me when I listen to it now, like Linda McCartney's voice on the "I love you" counter melodies which add a touch of bittersweetness to the song all these decades later.
Oh wow‼
As a kid, I thought the more I sang this song I would magically just have vocals one day. Didn't happen🥴. Absolutely will always love this song!💗
😭😭love this!
@@EmpressReacts In my Sandy to Rizzo voice, " You making fun of me Emp"😉🤣
Another #1 song penned by the legendary Paul McCartney. I believe this song was a retort to former Beatle bandmate John Lennon’s implication that Paul “only wrote silly love songs”. Very catchy song with McCartney’s prominent and melodic bass playing. Those were Paul’s children you saw in the audience. Great choice and reaction! ❤️🔥🔥✨
Maybe just critics in general. Some of Lennon's favorite McCartney songs were love ditties. (Listen to Lennon's Oh Yoko also) This is just a very witty song, where Paul wins the argument.
@@chrisjamieson3452 John did say that.
🤣best revenge
If I have not said it before I love a silly sappy love song😊. Makes me smile.
🔥🔥
like the singing interlude.
I Still Hear this Song Often on the Radio. What a Classic! So Well put Together. One of My Favorite Paul McCartney & Wings Song. My Other Favorite is "Live and Let Die."
Silly Love Songs helped turn Sir Paul into the richest performer on the planet. Worth approximately 1.3 billion today I believe.
Empress likes good dance music. I think she might enjoy McCartney's Coming Up. Official music video.
Wow ‼
Excited to see you do this!
This song is a parody by the way. Former Beatles' partner John Lennon RIP was roasting Paul for making "silly love songs", so he decided to make a song named Silly Love Songs to prove that people actually want to listen to that type of songs and indeed it was a huge hit...
🤣🤣best revenge
I know a HARDCORE jazz musician that said there's no such thing as a good pop song or artist. It took me 30 seconds and a few names until I mentioned Wings and he had to eat his words 😁
🤣🤣got em
One of his best Empress!💙
🔥🔥🔥

Forget The Rules...you got it!
Check out another great song by Paul McCartney & Wings called " Band On The Run "

I am so excited this didn't go to YT jail. Cant wait for part 2. Yes Sasha and I are attempting a new trend of giving you the original song, and then a song that sampled it. We have our November songs already picked, but if there are some suggestions out there Sasha and I would be willing to consider them. I honestly didn't think about the MJ connection when I picked this. I'm glad it got 10's.
Definitely 🔥🔥and yes I'm enjoying this 😎
looovvveee your reactions empress , put a smile on my face , great song choice too !!!
thank u!!!
You could squeeze sunshine out of a turd! Keep bringing it, it's right on the money, you've got a musical moxie and a trained ear and you're special ingredient is just in time
wow thank u!
I first heard this tune when it first came out, lol. Thought the same as you, what's wrong with silly love songs. No doubt the first tunes were them, lol. Anyway, great to see the younger generations appreciate good music I grew up with.
🔥🔥🔥
Funny...the VERY beginning of this song sounds like a monster in chains slowly walking up to a window or something....hahaha...while slowly dragging the other leg
🤣what
💖 The first time I heard this song wasn’t the original version. I always loved The Beatles, but I grew up with Wings being maligned by adults around me, because it’s a post-Beatles project and especially male fans would show their “loyalty” to The Beatles by hating everything after… I grew to realise a lot of that was chauvinism because of the increased roles that Yoko Ono and Linda had in John and Paul’s lives, but I was a kid I didn’t know any better (and it doesn’t explain how much I loved The Girl Is Mine and Say Say Say. But I guess that’s just my childhood adoration of MJ✨)…
SO the first time I heard this song was the opening lines that Ewan McGregor sings with the most heart-stopping sincerity in Baz Luhrmann’s wonderfully bizarre post modern masterpiece Moulin Rouge! He sings it to Nicole Kidman in their falling-in-love scene, breaking through her cynicism with his medley of classic love songs, and ultimately winning her over. I met Ewan once when I was storyboarding on his film Son Of A Gun… He has the most incredible flirty energy with both women and men and everyone in between. That wicked grin kills me… Celtic mega-babe ❤️🔥
Gotta look this Ewan guy up 👀👀and wow that was very chauvinistic
@@EmpressReacts Aw you’re such a lil bebe not knowing about Ewan… and yet such an 80 year old woman in a young girls body for stanning Bette Davis and the gang 🤩😂 If you want to start with a couple of super charming Ewan movies, watch Down With Love (homage to the classic Rock and Doris comedies) and Moulin Rouge! … Then dive into some sexy dark Ewan with Shallow Grave and The Pillow Book, then some 70s bi glam Ewan with Velvet Goldmine, then magic realist Ewan in Big Fish and of COURSE the career-making-era-defining 90s classic darkly funny heroin struggle movie Trainspotting
They are my esteemed recommendations (but his career is vast)
I really actually opened my ears to the Beatles and Wings and Lennon when I was like..mid-twenties. All I knew of the Beatles was the same 3 simple songs they played on the radio that gave me headaches. haha But then I listened to their other songs and wow, that was a cool couple months. I had zero nostalgia so all I can say is great music will always be great and when people say new music isn't as good..well they're not just basing that on nostalgia. haha
Most people end up loving the Beatles at some point in their lives. Some bands and songs just gotta hit you at the right moment of maturity or mood in your life to be fully appreciated! You gotta check out Lennon's beef song/video he had with Paul called "How do you sleep". It's incredible.
Interesting ‼
Love u2 Empress
😘
In the 60s, 70s and (most of) the 80s no one ever thought about being recorded in public. So whatever video you get from that time is real reactions, people didn't know how to bullshit like now.
💗💥 1976
Interestingly, Paul struck gold in the US with this - while back home the punk revolution and a kind of triviality in the British mindset actually robbed him of a bigger domestic hit. It does stand the test of time nonetheless.
oh wow!!!
Good evning Empress!
Hey hey

Hello Empress!
I found your channel most recently.I listen a lot to reaction videos generally, although i`m more into rock,
I just like your kind of presenting the music, your sing-a-longs etc. -put me in a good mood every time.
Try to listen to something you`re not familiar with?Check out Rammstein ,a 6-man rock band from Germany.
They exist since 1994 and never changed any members.By the way I´m from Germany, too, but this is not the reason I recommend them.
They are actually the only German band that I love. You`ll find tons of videos on youtube. They sing in German but you can enjoy
them just for the vibes.Listen to Du hast (Live in Paris),for example, and you know what I mean.
Well,just a suggestion,keep on the good work!
Greetings,Rainer
wow thank u!!!
