George’s reaction reminded me of Howard’s reaction to finding out about his wife’s second pregnancy. Sure he was more calm, but some of the words were the same, lol

The one thing that annoyed me was Mary wasn’t mad at the fact Georgie lied about his age to an older woman and got someone pregnant but that she is worried what her church group is gonna think about it. So just narcissistic of her, not worrying how her teenage son is gonna raise a child or what is the repercussions of her teenage son having sex with an older woman like is she gonna get in trouble.
Today in 2024 Mandy would go to jail and obligated to register herself as a sex offender for sleeping with an underaged person! This was in the late 80s so it wasn’t a big deal back then
I can somehow understand when the girl is underage and the guy is older but here Georgie is 17 and not too far from 18 plus he's the one who lie to her so if someone can explained to me why was it so bad (i mean the town reaction from my perspective was excessive) especially if at the end both of them decided to take responsability by marrying each other. If someone know more about this social impact can he/she explain it to me pls?
I understand that this is a serious problem in the show, but I hope if I ever find myself in Georgies position my parents react similar to how George and Mary do. A reaction like that would ease the tension.
