I just saw saw a fledgling today.I just walked right past him heading out to work. He was hopping around, and stretching his tiny little wings. It was really cool.
I found one he was about 3 days old I’ve been taking care of him keeping hot bottle of water with heating pads to keep him warm. I have to grind food to help him eat since mom can’t throw it up. Yes I could probably take it to a place but I don’t think they take starlings. Also the baby is doing very well. Once he’s prepared to learn to fly I’ll bring him near his nest for a hour or so a day so he can watch other birds.
Just helped a ton. Had a bird nest in our gutter for Spring and decided to leave it alone until the birdies left the nest. Came out to the backyard this morning to see a fledgling around near the fence. Thought it was an injured bird until I put to and two together. Then I actually seen the 3rd fledging flap to the ground and the parents fluttering around them from time to time. Very beautiful to see.
Hello! I live in a suburb of San Antonio. I've had both robins (as pictured in this video) and mostly barn swallows on my property. There are 2 other stages of baby birds: Hatchling and juveniles. Hatchlings are 0-3 days old. The are almost completely bald, and their eyes are closed. If you found a hatchling, I doubt very seriously that it is still alive, due to the shock from falling out of the nest, and most likely from coming in contact with extreme temperatures (out of the nest and no feathers = most likely too cold; or if it fell on a patio, porch, or sidewalk--too hot or too wet). Nestlings are 3-12 days old, their eyes are open, they can make sound, and have pin feathers. Fledglings are approx. 2 weeks old and have down feathers. Contrary to what you said in your video, all birds can move around PLENTY. Trust me--they can walk, or at least crawl, etc. just fine in search of warmth & seclusion. Juveniles are older than fledglings (e.g., 3 weeks or more). While juveniles have already fledged, they still return to the nest to roost until migration. Juveniles can feed themselves, but still sometimes accept food from their parents. Juveniles are full-size, but lack the colors and hues of the feathers that adult birds have.
Yes, thank you! I agree with what you said here, I did not mention hatchlings since this was a what to do if you find a baby bird video, not a stages of young birds growth video, and as you mentioned you are not likely to find one alive. Same with juveniles, they are not normally mistaken for baby birds. I don't agree with what you said about them moving around though. If you were to find a nestling on the ground, it would pretty much just be flopping around or not moving at all. I never said they were incapable of moving around as they can make small movements, especially towards the end of the nestling period as they begin to become stronger. I specifically said in the video that fledglings are " able to hop or flutter around. They are also able to hold onto a branch by themselves." The being able to hold onto a branch and fluttering around, testing their wings is the main factor to help people not immersed in the bird world identify the stage. Also, the juveniles do not usually return to their nests to roost. A nest is more like a nursery for birds, used for incubating eggs and raising young, after the birds have fledged they do not return. Thank you for your comment! :)
The neighbors cat brought a live bluejay fledgling to my doorstep. I have NO clue where it came from and the closest wildlife rescue is over an hour and a half away. So, its up to me to try to save this little fella.
Found a fledgling last night(I didn’t know it was one at the time)a cat had it and I shooed the cat away and other cats were praying on it, he didn’t want to fly and he was breathing heavily and would flutter away if i got close, I kept it in a box overnight and took it to a nature center in the morning, they told me it was a fledgling and to put it back where I found it, so I put it down where I first found it and after about a minute it flew to the hood at my car looked at me one last time and flew away.
😮 they always tell us to put them back. That makes me mad. It doesn't take a university course to learn what food is needed for what bird, or any other care. If a flegling can't fly to a safe place then releasing it is a death sentence. A few feedings, for a few days strengthens them for better survival so they can fly to a safer place. Afterall, our Creator gave mankind the responsibility to car for earth and all living creatures on it.
Great video we have a nest of four baby robins that I have been in our backyard watching for sometime. Try to ensure it up in case one felll out. Today one of the four is just sitting on the branch and I know it was just a matter of time and now it’s in the backyard which is why I needed to watch your video to make sure I was doing the right thing. Thanks again.
I just took home a fletchling, i could not find the parents anywhere and i waited for a while i couldnt see anybirds or hear any apart from pigeons. Got anytips on looking after it? It still have some of the white fluffy baby feathers on it
I have 3 of them under my poach right now. So this is how I found ur channel. They look good. Mom and dad r close I see them watching them. There r some cats out here. So I’m trying to just keep watch and keep them away. My kitty doesn’t go outside so I know she won’t bother them
No choice but to keep nearly full feathered baby pushed 2 times from nest. Perhaps the runt since he was weak, but after third feeding much stronger with healthy poop. I play Swallow bird songs before feeding mealworms and soaked high protein cat food after squishing water off. Thanks for tips on raising. Hope he survives since all wildlife is in danger these days.
I'm thinking I found a runt also on my porch yesterday, he's fully feathered but very tiny. It can't fly at all and tries walking around but it's very clumsy lol. I brought it inside and have been caring for it, and it seems to be doing OK so far. I'm praying he will survive so I can release him once he can fly. I named it Jack.
I don’t know if you will react my comment, but there is a really really bad storm in Illinois and the mom left him and the nest nowhere to be found. I don’t know what to do with him.

I dont know what to do, I came back from practice then I found 3 baby birds that fell out of the nest and the nest is split in half there is one baby left in the nest, I put the baby’s in a nest and hung it nearby but the birds are barely moving and it’s a cold day Edit: they didn’t make it
I got a baby bird today and it's a nestling But i took it to my house feed it water and some Milk, i know now milk not very good but idk what to do and i can't locate a nest where the bird from and i can't leave him with new nest in the tree Bec.. RED Ants are eating him, he got blood in his lower beak HELP
Great video….Told me exactly what I needed to do with the little fledgling my dog found in the yard….3 didn’t make it….but this one did…Now I’m hoping mama bird comes back for this one, with its big pink mouth wide open….lol
I left a fledgling I found yesterday alone and it died within the hour. It never left that spot, wasn't injured, and parents still haven't come a day later. Screw you. It's nest was 10' away - it could have been saved so damn easy.
i founnd a fledgeling sparrow in a road filled with wild dogs and pet cats...had to bring it home before it became cat food...i am having a hard time feeding it
If it is a nestling that needs help, contact a local wildlife rehab. They will give you exact details, but you could use some other type of container or bin.
@@mastershifupr16 If the baby bird is mobile enough to follow the mother, most likely it is a fledgling and is supposed to be out of the nest and is just learning how to fly.

I found a baby bird in my yard today I picked it up gently and it was trying to chirp but it couldn’t so I thought it needed water so I gave him some water through my finger to his beak and then he started flapping around but couldn’t fly and then he got very still and died in my hand 😞
I found a fledgling at the back of my house out side and they are many stray and owned cats around my neighborhood roaming around , and this bird is just keep chirping at a trees and things in the air
I found a fledgling, it can’t hop but it has a lot of feathers and also can semi fly (maybe half a foot off the ground until going back down). I can’t release it around my house because there are MANY wild dogs and cats around my neighborhood. I actually have a large tree area that’s secluded behind my house (sort of a trail but there’s large areas of space where there are trees and kind of like a woody area). Can I release it there? I hope you get back to me soon because it’s outside in a box with a nest (one made from actual birds that I found on the ground abandoned ).
I think that releasing it there would be fine, it sounds like it has just left the nest and is working on finding how to do fly and move around, which can be difficult.
The best course of action is to contact a wildlife rehab. See what they have to say. If it is uninjured and you can see the nest, put it back in. If it is injured put it in a secure, dark, and quiet place to stress it as little as possible and take it to a wildlife rehab. Do not try to feed it and remember to always wear gloves when handling wildlife.
I just found a young baby bird unmobilized with his feathers developed. I put it in a box with a shirt to make it nest like. I couldn’t find its nest. It is refusing to move (unless I gently nudge it) or eat. Right now the nearest wild life rehabilitation center is 42 minutes away but closed. I’m worried the bird won’t make it through the night. It is warm and dark in my room. I’ve managed to get two very veryyy tiny pieces of very soft soaked dog food in its mouth. So far it is still very much alive but not moving still, or even opening it’s mouth. What do I do????
I would recommend contacting a wildlife rehabilitator, they can identify it and give it the proper care. It sounds like you have done everything right, although I wouldn't try and feed it.
I made a nestling a nest in the shade then waited all day for it’s mother last time and it died of dehydration/starvation. I cried all night wishing I tried to feed it early 😢 I just found another one with no nest in sight in the middle of the side walk… screw this I’m taking care of it this time.
I found a nestling that had fallen from 3rd floor nest, and put it on to a roof thinking parent will take it back to nest. But that did not happen. Instead, the crow took it. I wish i had taken it to home 😢
A few years ago, I found a baby Robin had fallen out of the nest which was located on a downspout under the eve of my house. He had a few fuzzy feathers on him, and a bunch of quills. Mama Robin was a few feet away hopping around on the ground and screeching bloody murder. Anyways, I put the baby back in the nest with it's brother. Maybe 10 minutes later, it fell out again. This went on over and over for maybe an hour and I put the baby back in the nest several times. The next day I went over to check on the birds and sadly, I found the dead baby on the ground. :-{
My father ended up bringing home a sparrow fledgling he found on the ground. He made me keep it in a small cage with metal wire bottoms and he didn't allow me to put anything soft for the bottom. He made me hang the cage with rope on our ceiling so basically the cage was hanging and swindling from time to time. We fed the fledgling with crushed hamster food. It died after a few days. ☹️
If it is a nestling that needs help, often feeding them can do more harm than good. Different species of birds often have very specific diets and getting the wrong food can cause problems. Also, improper feeding of nestling can sometimes cause food to become stuck.
Jus leave the bird let nature take its course if it didn't happen it wasn't meant to be you have no idea how many birds dont make it literally everything eats baby birds that's just how it works unfortunately 😂
It's funny that you think that You exist on a higher plane than nature, and the fact you think that the interference of a humans on these matters is separate from the fact That we are part of nature ourselves Leaves much room for personal growth on your end. What i'm getting at is what you would say. Interference is nothing but the natural order. Because you're part of nature, buddy.
@@miami410 that's pretty neat man nature will run its course like it's supposed to one bird doesn't make a difference in the world but if that's what you want to do with you're free time have fun with that guy it's a bird eat bird world out there something would have ate it eventually who are you to decide whether or not this bird was supposed to be some starving animals meal could have been the difference between life or death baby birds are a good source of vitamin b carbohydrates protein and occasionally mud but and bubble gut
I found a baby fledgling today while on a walk with my dog. At first I left it alone, but then returned, worried. I saw an unknown cat slowly coming towards it, some 10 meters away. Luckily I did not do like the video says, and moved into one of the neighbourhood bushes, where I saw other birds hiding. While it might struggle, it is better than being eaten by a cat
I found a fledgling just now outside my door. He freaked out when i first tried to grab him and he hid underneath a piece of outside furniture. after some inspecting, its clear his foot/leg is broken or lame. one foot is perfect, while the other one is curled up and immobile. His parents are nearby, watching. I put him in a box with some water and a crushed beetle. I will try my absolute best to leave him alone now bc when i leave my apartment, the parents fly away. unfortunately, they built their nest above concrete, so i bet its common for the fledglings to break a foot crash landing.
I just went to cover the nest a bit with a very lightweight polythene and made sure it didn't tiuched the nest cuz it was raining heavily but instead the two fledglings hopped out and started hopping in random i tried to keep them in nest but they hopped out again and I'm feeling extremely guilty now
I'm sorry but this was utterly useless to me. You did not explain anything about caring for a fledgling. Here is a video on how to fix a car: take it to the mechanic....
Not sure about this advice. There are plenty of people who have successfully rehabilitated their own nestlings and fledglings. I guess you have to be willing to commit to taking care of them. They say don’t handle too much or get too close because you can imprint the bird and will be difficult to release back into the wild.
Just the other day I had just driven away from home when I saw a sparrow flapping trying to escape a cat, managed to grab it, it was able to fly so after a rest and a drink we released it in the garden.

I found a nestling that had fallen from 3rd floor nest, and put it on to a roof thinking parent will take it back to nest. But that did not happen. Instead, the crow took it. I wish i had taken it to home 😢
And she’s I’ll now am taking care of her
A few years ago, I found a baby Robin had fallen out of the nest which was located on a downspout under the eve of my house. He had a few fuzzy feathers on him, and a bunch of quills. Mama Robin was a few feet away hopping around on the ground and screeching bloody murder. Anyways, I put the baby back in the nest with it's brother. Maybe 10 minutes later, it fell out again. This went on over and over for maybe an hour and I put the baby back in the nest several times. The next day I went over to check on the birds and sadly, I found the dead baby on the ground. :-{
You found a baby sparrow but the nest is in my roof
My father ended up bringing home a sparrow fledgling he found on the ground. He made me keep it in a small cage with metal wire bottoms and he didn't allow me to put anything soft for the bottom. He made me hang the cage with rope on our ceiling so basically the cage was hanging and swindling from time to time. We fed the fledgling with crushed hamster food.
It died after a few days. ☹️
Cardinals WILL abandon their nest if tampered with.
we left a fledgling overnight the parent didn’t come back
Me me and my friend we found a baby bird out of its nest and we saved it
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
My bird is eating food happly why you are saying that do not feed the birds ?
If it is a nestling that needs help, often feeding them can do more harm than good. Different species of birds often have very specific diets and getting the wrong food can cause problems. Also, improper feeding of nestling can sometimes cause food to become stuck.
I fed it some rice at night and found them dead in the morning 😢
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😍🥰💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Oh shoot! I took a fledgling! I will go put him back where I found him. I'm sorry
Good chance now adays with shortages of everything, you'll see more nestlings being tossed out of nests by parents.
Just found one. Glad I don't have to care for it.
I found a baby Bluejay. It fell out of a tree in my neighbors lawn and got attacked by ants.
😢😢
Why i hate ants
@@JyacinthezoeySenarlo-qs1bl that's life sadly
Stahhhhhp. 😭
Keep it
I found a fledgling just now outside my door. I will try my absolute best to leave him alone now bc when i leave my apartment, the parents fly away.
unfortunately, they built their nest above concrete, so i bet its common for the fledglings to break a foot crash landing.
not totally helpful. no information on how to help an injured fledgling which is what i came here for as there are no rehabbers near me
I just went to cover the nest a bit with a very lightweight polythene and made sure it didn't tiuched the nest cuz it was raining heavily but instead the two fledglings hopped out and started hopping in random i tried to keep them in nest but they hopped out again and I'm feeling extremely guilty now
I'm sorry but this was utterly useless to me. You did not explain anything about caring for a fledgling. Here is a video on how to fix a car: take it to the mechanic....
Me and my parents found this bird outside and decided to take it in because there’s no trees around me and it won’t stop tripping
The best thing to do is leave it as is, let nature rjn it's course. Unless people cut down their tree, in that case then intervene
i found a bird laying in the ground and maybe hes mom dropped him he had a red thing in his chest
I found today it's fledgling bat it cant fly so i took him and take care and hinever ate why?
Not sure about this advice. There are plenty of people who have successfully rehabilitated their own nestlings and fledglings. I guess you have to be willing to commit to taking care of them. They say don’t handle too much or get too close because you can imprint the bird and will be difficult to release back into the wild.
I found 2 nestlings couple days ago, didn't feed them, called rehabbers and got no response so that didn't work and they died over night 😢
I just found 2 baby birds in my basement. Should i just leave them there? They do look like fledglings.
Found a fledgling after the recent hurricane storms. Should I bring it back to the spot I found it or wait and find a wildlife rehab?
All these videos are completely useless, besides saying to take to someone else, you shouldnt even post videos that offer no useful information.
Just the other day I had just driven away from home when I saw a sparrow flapping trying to escape a cat, managed to grab it, it was able to fly so after a rest and a drink we released it in the garden.
I left it alone and a cat ate it
Thats what im scared of. We have a massive white cat that randomly goes around the neighborhood
Cruel thoughts
