adding "furniture" didn't help. it's cute to us, but birds don't use furniture. in fact, loose objects in the nest can cause babies to get trapped underneath and die. she was removing the furniture, not as a "burglar", but because he basically put a bunch of dangerous trash in her potential nesting spot he definitely didn't need to paint it, they were showing interest and just needed time to adjust to the spot. nest boxes should only be treated with nontoxic, weather-resistant coating if necessary - buy decent wood and you shouldn't need to do that either. plain wood is fine, they don't care about the color. even if they did, plain wood is the same as the wood inside of a tree after all, where they'd naturally nest anyway
It is a great design for the bird house. It has prooved its worth already. In an open nest, there would possibly be only 2 chicks left by now. I wish much success in the future. I look forward to the time they fledge. Greetings from Dimboola, in Victoria, Australia.

Nest scraping is a good sign a nest will be built. It is how they scent mark the box claiming it within their territory. The odd movements the female made is called the snake display. It is meant to scare competition or predators from entering the nest box. This is a perfect designed nest box for tits, you can make the entry way slightly smaller to keep larger species of birds from entering the box. The course fur, preferably deer hair, is used to weave the edges of the nest cup and to keep the moss packed down. The female will loosen the course hair as the chicks grow to make the nest cup deeper. She will keep working on the design after she has laid all the eggs and has started the incubation process. Also a fun fact since the female lays so many eggs, it requires more calcium than is in her entire skeleton to produce a full clutch of eggs.
Songbirds are adorable. 😊 Great video. 👍 However the roof of the house should have spikes, to prevent predators from crawling on top and entering through the hole.
Long-Term mating animals, they understand relationships. Because they have to survive everyday together. Although certain species of this bird have about a 50% divorce rate. Yeah if people wanted to be good parents to their kids and good lovers to their partners. Learn about animal relationships. I mean red foxes are better fathers than mine was.
The bird house needs to be deeper and the hole higher. And perhaps a wooden awning above the hole entrance, to make it more difficult for large predators to enter. (You know..) So they can't reach her or the babies..
I love this video it’s so cool how they made a nest and defend against predators It’s just really fun to watch the birds and it’s also educational for me because I didn’t know some of the stuff they do in this video I can’t wait to watch them grow!
Anthropomorphism went wrong. Birds don't sit for afternoon tea or sleep in bed. You could have made the nest to blend in better with the environment. But this worked, and the video is awesome.
Don't forget that great tits are also predators! Just look at the huge amount of animals (insects, mostly) that they are feeding their chicks. They may not be raptors, but they are still predators.
They remove the poop and dispose of it. It's all part of cleanliness in the nest, if the chicks pooped in the nest like an adult bird they'd all quickly die.
Grass is a type of plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass is usually the color/colour ‘green’. Grasses are monocotyledon herbaceous plants. The grasses include the "grass" of the family Poaceae. This family is also called Gramineae. The family also include some of the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae).[1] These three families are not closely related but all of them belong to clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a common life-style. The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others. Many grasses are short, but some grasses can grow very tall, such as Bamboo. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places and make grasslands, including areas which are very arid or cold. There are several other plants that look similar to grass and are referred to as such, but are not members of the grass family. These plants include rushes, reeds, papyrus and water chestnut. Seagrass is a monocot in the order Alismatales. Grasses are an important food for many animals, such as deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows. This is a part of why the plants are successful. Without grass, soil may wash away into rivers (erosion)
Might be best to make a deeper house with more distance between the door and floor. In over videos I've seen people rework their birdhouses because larger birds could fit in their head and neck and grab the chicks, and housecats could also reach in with their arms.
The house 🏠 should deeper, so the predator could cannot reach deeply down for the chicks, and the hole entrance should be covered with the square metal so the predator can not broke and widen the entrance Please human try to avoid any more stress for the mother birds 🐦
Construct a cylindrical box for the nest and install two external cameras with infrared capabilities to capture high-quality video. It's wonderful to observe nature and the affection that birds display.
I had a bird nest too and they were thriving but When the chicks got fur the mom and dad never came back probably because a cat or other predator got them both so the chicks died too sadly😢
About that creature I don’t know it’s it’s probably a crow sense. The beak is shaped as a black Crowes or black, so yeah, but I like your videos they’re good.😊❤
It is good to include a small shelf on the inside of the “door” hole of bird houses, one that stretches about half of the floor space. That gives the young a place to hide if a predator attempts to reach in, and yes….crows are omnivores and will eat baby birds from other species. Also, don’t put a landing stick outside the opening to the house…..the birds don’t need it and almost never use it, but predators can use it as a place to hold on while raiding the nest.
What size is the hole in the bird house? I have two nests under my porch roof. Every year we see small birds fly back and forth, then sometimes hear the chirping from their hatchlings. But then a big black bird flies through and out, taking a bird with them. I want to build a bird box they can use to have babies without the big black birds taking their young’uns. I want to custom build the houses to fit under the eaves.
Well it Kinda makes sense that she is putting out the furnituri becuease she needs to have space în the Best but the Babys were so cutee and the mom is so proctective❤
Who was breaking into the house?
Idk
Me
Definitely looks like a crow beak to me!
@@StillOofing1😂 jerk!
raven or some type of corvid
i think the smell of the wood and paint made it uneasy for the birds to settle initially. After all the whole build was homemade.
Birds have no sense of smell
They actually do! It may be not as good as for dogs and cats, but they are able to smell
Paint fumes can easily kill birds
Let’s hope Ukrainian birds are immune to paint fumes or else this bird house series will be pretty short-lived 😳

Good idea
the fact that those birds relationship is better than my mom and dads ever worse is crazy.

That beak certainly looked very corvid, so it likely was a crow or magpie.
2:25 so cute… my heart is melting
So cute I love how the mama kept the eggs safe
The new bird couple went house hunting for them to find a place to raise their family. This is their story about their experiences.
How long does it takes to return birds back after you paint the box inside ?
