I have two VTF-15H MK2 in the front corners and two VTF-TN1 in back corners. They sound fantastic. Went from PSA to HSU. I loved PSA. They hit hard but for some reason I could not blend them well in the system. HSU subs integrated well and sound so good with music and movies alike.
100% looking forward to measurements and your thoughts on this sub. AH's measurements show that the SPL/Distortion price/performance basically allows it to go toe-to-toe with JTR and Perlisten when multiple subs are used at reference levels or quieter. i.e. 4 VTF's = $5,200 giving you roughly +6db when non-colocated before room gain. This puts 1-meter peaks in free space up to 111db at 12.5hz with 20% distortion (according to CEA measurements). When you consider room gain and overall sound power as this sub is put into 2, 3, and 4pi situations, this sub is basically the cleanest and loudest at its price point especially when you consider using 4 of them. I mentioned JTR and Perlisten specifically for price/performance and listening at or below reference levels. You can buy 15 of the VTFs for the same cost of 2 Perlisten D215s and 3 VTFs for (basically) 1 JTR RS2. This raises SPL and distortion performance to be at least on par with JTR and Perlisten's offerings.
I wonder how it will compare to the new Klipsch 14 and 16 inch subs! I I’m sure pretty close considering the frequency range. The design is a bit different, but I can also see this being used with bookshelf speakers! Can’t wait till the full review!! ❤ I have always loved your content!!
Great sub for the money-- I have 4 12's stacked in the front and 2 15's in the rear. Budget sub, but it hits pretty hard. Dr hsu is a great man- spoke to him a few times to fix an issue we had- operator error- lol
Dr. Hsu is one of the nicest people I've met in the audio industry. Visited their HQ with my wife for a personal demo and left with a whole home theater system. Great people making great products at amazing prices.
I tried to buy Arendal speakers twice as an only parent to two college kids and I would save up the cash (twice) and when I went to purchase the price went up. I bought something else (Heco Aurora 1000s) and am very happy with them and the price actually decreased over this time.
Yes, it is on the large side. Very good price point - I hope it performs as well as it looks - Nice to have the option between ported or sealed too. Cheers!
Subs sound better off the ground. So that driver up high like that is a performance boost vs a conventional sub. I'd put it up even higher but that's a start.
@@Youthman - I am not sure if these were at the Axpona show ..but I believe I have a demo clip with the coaxial speakers HSU has ... I think you'b be really impressed. They are like a Mini JTR .. 8inch .. or MoFi source Point 8 style. Really cool stuff. Ask .. tell em I sent ya. .. lol
I wish other manufacturers would get on board with this form factor. I know SVS does the cylinders but I much prefer this approach. I would guess there are a lot of other people who find depth to be the most limiting dimension when it comes to placement. Coupled with the painted finish at the price make the TN1 extremely tempting in my case.
I have been a big Hsu Research fan myself. Have owned several of their VTF3's subwoofers over the past 2 decades. My only gripe is the BASH amps tend to fail rather quick and often.
Good looking sub, solid specs, and great warranty. I do wish if they’d quote extension they’d include an accompanying spl. That’s a general gripe, nonspecific to hsu.
When you said, … stand … bookshelves speakers… I immediately thought, first I need 3 of them, second, would some m&k s150, fit on top, and be a good match as LCR ? 😂 or JTR 110ht
Yes it’s incredibly stiff. I wouldn’t recommend punching it but certainly pushing on it isn’t going to change anything. I would, however, recommend doing that to a tweeter. 😉

I'm a huge fan of HSU Research. They're hard to beat for the price.
Tons of value!

Had mine for about 3 weeks now. It's powerful and sounds great!
HSU Research is the only brand of sub I will buy. Amazing subs for the money.
This subwofer is gorgeous!
I love the satin black finish. Super smooth, but definitely a fingerprint magnet.
@@Youthmando you think it would scratch easy with a cat?
HSU subs are the best bang for the buck out there.

Dr HSU is incredibly kind.
Can't wait for the review! I just received mine and haven't had a chance to fully set up.
Awesome! Congrats.
Love the form factor and wish more subs were like this

I couldn’t agree more! And I’ve only spoken to him via email.
First out of the gate. Been waiting months for a review of this subwoofer.

I love the flexibility of sealed or ported as well.
Looks like a beast.

Interesting.
@@Youthman well, it's my experience, at least. I started doing it about 10 years ago when I noticed it was so much smoother.
I’m curious to know if the surround of the woofer is foam or rubber?
Dr HSU is awesome. =)
Absolutely agree!

Appreciate the recommendation. I haven’t heard their speakers yet.
@Youthman ..I'll DM the link to my clip. can veiw at your leisure.

Great advice on placing a clothe on top ...if your planning to add a speaker the finish mars easy 😢 .
Looking forward to a future comparison review against their previous flagship model
Good looking sub, solid specs, and great warranty.

I agree that would be helpful. I’ll do some compression testing to see what they are capable of.
@@Youthman thanks. Always good info Michael.
Can you please give some examples when testing...how best to work the Q control?
Do you have a date when you'll release your actual test of the VTF-TN1?
The surround looks like it is foam just curious if it is.
What’s a good amp were can I
Purchase I have a set but no amp
Wonder if Dr. Hsu will come to MWAVE now that you're not involved. Hopefully so.
He might still. Who knows
Any downside to having it on its side? and comparison to a Perlisten R15?
Where are these manufactured and what type of labor are they using?
Good morning~Bravo, fantastic editing.
Was there ever a follow up to this? If so, I couldn’t find it. Looking to see how performance was compared to the previous model. Thanks!
I told Dr. HSU today that I will have the review published by next Friday.
@@YouthmanAwesome! Thank you! Keep up the great work!

Were you planning on a full review with measurements for this sub?
Yes

I think Hsu would definitely tell you to not put this sub on its side.

GJ marring the cone.
GJ?
If you mean good job marring the cone, hopefully you realize woofers move. 👍
@@Youthman deformed the center cap.
@@iamaboozerit ain't deformed. I have two VTF 3 Mk5's and I'm sure they use the exact driver. That center cap is hard plastic.

that sub is huge and i bet it hit's that would be a good sub to test some too short or e-40 on i bet it would be so loud it would shake the room.
Very nice Youthman👍😎 I can't wait for your test. Don't blow it, but give it you know that deep bass test. 😁🫨🤓
Oh I definitely want to see what she’s made of. 😎

When do you think you will be reviewing this. Thinking about trying a couple, would love to get your thoughts on it before I purchase them.
