I like this more than The Last of Us. Instead of going through the motions of adapting an already existing cinematic story that millions of us have already experienced numerous times, with Fallout they created something new. Even more, it's canonical with the games, so the events of this show will directly feed into future Fallout games.
Agreed. It's also a much harder thing to pull off since they were writing a new story and still had to recreate the known Fallout world for that story to exist in.
Imo this show surpassed the last us and I loved the last of us. This was 8 episodes of story progression.. Zero filler. Faithful to the games and has me re-engaging with the games after several years away. So happy that other people are enjoying it as much as I did and can't wait to see what's next.
As a long time fallout fan I had no hope for this show, I thought that there’s too much to cover for it to be satisfying. But they succeeded and deserves praise
I think Fallout has a leg up on Last of Us and pretty much every other video game adaption, that being that the show is canon to the games it's adapting.
I think Fallout tv show is better then Last of Us because it's an original story instead of just an adaptation. Everyone knows what's gonna happen in season 2 of last of us. No one knows what will happen in season 2 of the Fallout tv show
Amazon Prime right now looks like the best streaming service with top tier shows like Fallout, The Boys, Gen V, Invincible and Mr and Mrs Smith. They are on a roll at the moment and they have Jack Reacher, Road House and Saltburn plus next day delivery. They have S-Tiers shows, while other streamers struggle to have 2 great shows.
Fallout was a good example of the people who made it understanding the assignment. If you were a fan or new to the genre there was something for everyone to love.
Fallout 4, a game that came out nearly a decade ago, has increased its sales numbers by 7500%. Fallout 76, a game that released in very poor state and by all accounts was considered dead, had 1 million concurrent players a day ago. That's bonkers.
FO76 was continuously worked on. This show is a great vehicle to provide it new exposure and give it a second chance. Personally I already played FO76 a few years ago after it became great. I'm looking forward to FO4s NextGen update out today to jump back into that one
I liked The Last of Us show and I'd say it was very good but I came away slightly disappointed for two reasons. The first is that because they stuck so closely to the games narrative, there were very few surprises throughout the entire first season. The second is that because they stuck so closely to the games narrative, I can't help but compare it to the game - and the game is going to win that comparison every single time. Fallout, on the other hand, is telling its own story within the world of Fallout - so *everything* is a surprise, and while I can compare it with the games, the comparison isn't even close to 1:1 so I don't come away feeling disappointed by the adaptation - instead, I'm excited by it. I think the approach each show took was the *correct* approach for their respective IPs - but Fallout is the one that excites me more because I don't know how this story is going to unfold. I just wish more video game adaptations would take a similar approach (looking at you, Halo).
I completely agree. TLoU game was an amazing story experience, even if you compare it to movies, books, TV or any format. The TV show was simply an adaptation. It was a pretty good adaptation, but the game is the superior way of experiencing the story.
This was the most fun I've had watching a show in a long time. I'll take a second season of this over anything else that's come out in the last few years.
On reflection, I think I would argue that Fallout is the best video game adaptation to date, TLoU included. TLoU did an admirable job translating an abridged version of the video game to television, but Fallout pretty much perfectly translated the essence of the Fallout franchise into a completely new and immersive story. TLoU might score some extra points with people on the basis that it is a more contemplative drama, but Fallout successfully ticks so many boxes, including comedy, drama, and pure fun mayhem. They knocked it out of the park.
At the end I felt like Moldaver saying "we did it" felt like an homage to the creators ,the actors, everyone involved in bringing this to life. I just felt all of that at once and it hit me hard
Fallout has some of the deepest lore in all of media. Acting like it's not on the level of The Last of Us is just blasphemy. I actually think season 1 of Fallout was better than the first season of TLoU. Then, you get into the length of the two stories and Fallout absolutely obliterates it. Plus, Fallout isn't just some "fun game" its a fucked up and twisted story about the inevitability of war and the horror that humans are capable of. It has its wacky style and jokes, but deep down, it is a really dark game.
Finally! I was wondering what the Fallout TV Show had to do for John Campea gives spotlight in his show lol. In regarding Jonh's comment that is not in the same league as "The last of us" (TLU) well it is true because it is better :) More entertaining based in a new story in the video game world and brought old and new fans to the Fallout video games. TLU eat your heart out ;)
Video Game Adaptions have been great recently, especially with television. So here are all the recent video game adaptations for me ranked: 1. Twisted Metal 2. The Last of Us 3. Fallout 4. Super Mario 5. Sonic the Hedgehog 6. The Wicther 7. Five Nights at Freddy's 8. Uncharted
The synergy is there… there’s a report that Fallout 76 topped 1 million concurrent players at a time this week. All the Fallout games topped 5 million too. Not bad, considering the newest game is already several years old.
Jonathan Nolan took Fallout to CCXP23 in Brazil (Denis Villeneuve & Dune 2 were also there) interview in India. Ella Purnell won the Cannes Series Madame Figaro Rising Star Award in France . The hard work paid dividends ❤
Fallout is a phenomenal show and I would put it on the same level of The Last of Us. They are very different in terms of tone and narrative, but that doesn't mean one has to be better than the other. That's the kind of thinking that has bleak dramas winning Oscars most of the time, while incredible films in other genres go home empty handed.
@@jonfreeman9682 I LOVE the games. If you don't mind a little dated gameplay I recommend Fallout 3. If you want a more modern game try Fallout 4. If you want multiplayer play Fallout 76. New Vegas is also great, but 3 is most similar to the show.
I wasn’t expecting much out this show but Fallout was fantastic and was so happy they gave it a great story and cast was great. Amazon does very few great shows so was expecting mediocre but was still willing to watch it since I enjoy the games and they blew it out of the park with the original story. I hold it above The Last of Us since that series follows an already created storyline while this is an original story from scratch.
Loving it so far. Great characters and good premise. Never played any of the games so no expectations. Apple has another show called Silo which I enjoyed but this is way better. I like this more than last of us which is also good. Great story so far.
It's better then last of us. Last of us was just a copy/paste of the game, but with a big filler episode and rushed finale. Atleast fallout tells an original story.
I have been a Fallout fan since the first game back in 1997. My only reservation is how bloody it can be. If you can get past that, it is clearly a spectacular adaptation, and one of the best shows currently on TV.

I very good video game adaptation, equals more interest in the source material as well. The numbers for the games on Steam quadrupled. As well as the show doing very well. The game developers and game studios need to get involved with these shows more heavily as Fallout proved. It is a money maker when it is done right.
After watching the Last of Us my reaction was… well I don’t need to play the game now. After finishing Fallout my reaction was… oooh, I need to check out this series of games.

1, The show is respectful to lore. 2, the politics and morality are nuanced. 3, the diversity casting requirements aren't distracting in this universe, versus a Rings of Power.
At 2.5 billion minutes that works out to nearly 5.5 million viewers *if each watched all 8 episodes. **if my math is close lol Great series and I can't wait for season 2
2:50 2.5B minutes of streaming indicates that many viewers binged the whole series in just e few days. What tells us, that the viewers were amazed by the show so much, they needed to see how the story goes on. Many other shows I watched, I still perhaps saw two or three episodes per week, even if all episodes were coming out at once. Sometimes I even watched perhaps the first 15 minutes of an episode and the watched the rest the other day, depending on how much time I had and how much I liked the show. But here I just needed three days to watch them all. Luckily I had a weekend with no other distractions. Perhaps it‘s also due to the fact that I also played many of the Fallout games.
Fallout was a fantastic adaptation! Some gripes with some of the writing - mostly around Maximus - but that's all to do with character choices and nothing to do with the acting which was stellar.
Fallout was surprisingly a really good show. I've played none of the games. It also did what Silo on Apple TV could not do despite a similar premise. Fallout built an entire world inside the silo and outside. Silo struggled to really give us something to care about even inside the fallout shelter.
Fallout is a better adaptation than TLOU + it's it's own story other than just an adaptation of an already known story. For me it's easily better than TLOU.
It doesn’t surprise as it is one of the best streaming shows out there. I played the Fallout 3 game many years ago for 10 minutes and hated the game because I felt it was overhyped and never played a fallout game ever again. This show is so good it is making me want to give the game a try again as the show is so compelling. But only next gen graphics versions.
The world of fallout was ripe for an adaptation. Most folk who played the games im sure saw it. I only played New Vegas and 4 back then, but man its been such a fun show.

Fallout doesn't just "know what it is", it isn't ashamed of what it is. At no point does it feel like the cast and crew consider games a lesser form of media that the show needs to "improve" on.
I’ve watched Fallout 3 times through at this point. Not only is it a great video game adaptation, but the best new show in years. The Last of Us was incredible, but I still firmly believe Fallout was better.
I haven't been this enthralled since GoT season 3. For my money, this might be even better. I can't say enough about Goggins....the perspective of a character over 200 years old and somehow he not only nails it but elevates it
Baby Reindeer is great, but it’s also not a show people will repeat watch. I repeated a couple episodes of Fallout, because I went ahead of my fiance and didn’t mind rewatching two episodes to let her catch up.
@@majorlazor5058 Yeah, I binge watched Fallout in two days and have repeated a couple episodes now, plus gone on Steam and played the game. I just started Baby Reindeer and damn it is good so far but I can't imagine watching it more than once.
I think Fallout is a better show than The Last Of Us. TLOU was good (the game was better) but I wouldn't put it up there with Shogun or HOTD. Visually and writing-wise, I don't think it is on the same level of those shows.
Warcraft would have done better as a TV series though. The movie was great if you're a fan and know the lore but there was so much crammed into it and not explained well enough for many average viewers to follow what was going on. A TV series would have gave them more room for explaining things better for the average person that hasn't played the games.
I really don't agree with the hosts of this podcast. The Last of Us was a good zombie movie, but otherwise it doesn't stand above Fallout for story or production. Shogun is a great story about people in a historic form of government that ultimately fails. Fallout does both of those concepts too- but as background elements to a satirical story that resonates more with our modern day real life than Shogun or TLoU. So far, Fallout is my favorite series overall.
Last of Us was fun, especially for people like me who had never played the game. But now that I have seen gameplay, it is very much just a retelling of the story almost word for word from the video game (with a couple very major exceptions). Fallout is entirely fresh. Other than world concepts, there is nothing repeated from the games.
Variety only ranks the original shows from each streamer unlike Nielsen which also ranks acquired shows. Also Nielsen is always like a month behind while variety provides numbers for the previous week
Needs to be an Elder Scrolls series that spans not just Skyrim, but all of Tamriel. Seeing all nine provinces, the Imperial City, Dragons, Vampires, Werewolves, Warriors, Archers, Magic Casters, Daedric Princes, Dremora Lords, Rock Trolls, Giants and every other type of creature found throughout Tamriel in a Live Action adaptation would rival Game of Thrones if done right.
I like this more than The Last of Us. I’ve watched Fallout 3 times through at this point. Not only is it a great video game adaptation, but the best new show in years. The Last of Us was incredible, but I still firmly believe Fallout was better.
I haven't been this enthralled since GoT season 3. For my money, this might be even better. I can't say enough about Goggins....the perspective of a character over 200 years old and somehow he not only nails it but elevates it
Absolutely gem and I’m surprised you are just now speaking on this. Happy to hear your thoughts.
Tbf tho Baby Reindeer is a 7 ep show with 30 minute episodes so it probably would have less streaming time
Baby Reindeer is great, but it’s also not a show people will repeat watch.
Its really good and deserve be on top!!!!!!I'm like many waiting for season 2
Fallout and Xmen 97 are my shows of 2024
I liked this way more then the halo show or the last of us
I’m not surprised by those numbers at all. It’s Fallout
I think Fallout is a better show than The Last Of Us. TLOU was good (the game was better) but I wouldn't put it up there with Shogun or HOTD. Visually and writing-wise, I don't think it is on the same level of those shows.
I ended up binging the whole of Fallout in one Weekend!
Warcraft movie was pretty good.
The other thing is what a bone this has been for Bethesda fallout 5 player is up 7500% on Stream!
so you'd say fallout wants to set the world on fire?
Where are the numbers from?
It's more enjoyable than Last of Us.
Honestly... yeah i agree
Last of Us was fun, especially for people like me who had never played the game. But now that I have seen gameplay, it is very much just a retelling of the story almost word for word from the video game (with a couple very major exceptions). Fallout is entirely fresh. Other than world concepts, there is nothing repeated from the games.
I wonder how variety gets their numbers because its a lot different than the nielsen numbers
Variety only ranks the original shows from each streamer unlike Nielsen which also ranks acquired shows. Also Nielsen is always like a month behind while variety provides numbers for the previous week
Is not John going to talk about the best tv series in the past years : Shogun?
It’s better than those 3 he keeps referencing
I really hope with this success our God Todd makes a skyrim series maybe the story of the companions or the dark brotherhood or the dragonborn
The show was great 👍🏾
Still waiting for Resident Evil to break its curse as well🤞
The movies are great wym
