Beyond the price, I absolutely love the size and feel of the standard Kindle, and the white color option is just really pretty. I switched from a 3rd gen paperwhite to the current basic around a year ago, and I don't really miss the extra resolution.
I'm gonna use the kindle paperwhite 2019 until the next huge upgrade. The bigger screen on the latest paperwhite is a great thing, but not enough to make me do the jump. I don't agree with the idea of buying new devices just for minor upgrades, if I did that I'd be constantly changing my stuff. Deciding to adhere to this principle helps to avoid FOMO too.
I got the upgrade from my husband for Christmas. The warm light and bigger screen is nice. But that's about it and it's nothing that's hands down needed. The wireless charging, in my opinion, sucks. I noticed when I used the wireless charging The battery drained in 3 days. When I charged it with the cord well I'm on week 5 with the battery.
Same here, although I must admit I do wish my Kindle had a warm light. Also, my Paperwhite can be quite slow when navigating - not sure if the new one has a bit of extra speed.
Yeah the same here Got the Paperwhite version 2018 and was tempted to buy the new one but with nothing really new to it I'm happy that I didn't bought it ....yet :p.

I had a Kindle fire tablet and I switched to just the basic Kindle and love it because it is so much lighter weight and easier to carry everywhere. Thank you for the video
This is the only review I’ve come across that mentions the warm light feature difference. That’s hugely important to me and sold my decision on which to go for. Thank you so much!
It’s like you read my mind! I’ve been thinking of buying Kindle because I find it a bit hassle of bringing two books during a vacation. This video is really helpful! Thank you so much!!! ☺️☺️☺️
Not just that but if you happen to find a book you wanna read while your on vacation you can buy it on your ereader instead of having to shove a book in your luggage.
This is an awesome review... No messing around, no junk, straight to the point and thereafter elaborated. Was so impressed with the format, I watched the entire video! Great job
I generally agree with you on the recommendations. But I would disagree with you on the Kindle Oasis. I have smaller hands, and I really appreciate the buttons on the Oasis. I love being able to hold it one-handed, and flip the pages back and forth with my thumb. And laying it bed, the buttons flip if you change which side you're reading on. Is it a bit high-priced? yes Would I prefer USB-C? yes. But the overall experience of actual use is my favorite (I had a Kindle Touch, and then a Kindle Paperwhite.)
@@laurab5013 You can put a pop socket on it. It works like charm! I prefer the oasis for the buttons and the light is better, oh and it´s made of aluminium
@@sarahlancheros pop socket doesn't work as well on the oasis because of the bump but on the regular kinde or even the signature it works great! I own Kindle Oasis and I have pretty big hands and I love using it.
I like the way he gave you what you wanted in the beginning of the video provided you with the upfront conclusion to save you time and still peaked your interest by keeping them short and simple yet still offers to go in depth throughout the video. Its as if he blended sales and videography.
I feel like other youtubers could benefit from this technique instead of peaking your interest and then pulling your leg and then giving you what you want at the end of the video after they gave a shoutout to the sponsor of the video , you can really learn to tell the difference between someone who provides value ( shout out marketing ) and someone who wants something from you.
Its such a simple and strategy , either you can give upfront and loose viewtime by giving them what they want first but compound overtime or you can be stingy and pull peoples legs for more view time in the short term. But imagine this you have two friends one who always asks for things and the other who just gives ; they may not give you things but just overall being around them improves your mood. These same rules apply to your favorite and not so favorite youtubers.
I had a hard time deciding between the regular base model Kindle and the 2021 Paperwhite but I ultimately decided to fork out a little more for the Paper white because I need that dark mode and warm display for night time reading. This is also my first ever Kindle and I hope this slight burn in wallet will encourage me to read more to make my purchase worth it haha Thanks for the awesome content! Can’t wait to get back to reading again!
The game changer with the oasis is you can put a pop socket or one of those phone strap thingies on the back of the button part and it is sooooooo much nicer to hold. When I had the regular paperwhite, I was constantly dropping it. The oasis was so worth it for me personally
@@woshijunfa bezel's not big enough. "Button part" certainly doesn't communicate this if you don't have it in front of you, OP's bad, but it's an inch wide. Screen real estate on "normal" kindle's are already frustratingly small, so to have to cover nearly an inch of it is unacceptable.
Was gonna order it somewhere else, but just because of the enormous positive impact Ali has on my life I bought it through the affiliate link straight away! Thanks Ali for making us all better humans!! 🙏
I got the standard 2021 Kindle on Monday 3/7/22 and totally awesome! I got it on a 1 day sale on Amazon so paid less than the $139.99. The screen is glorious!! I had the previous 2018 version and the screen alone is worth it with the extra size and warm light. Plus the kindle it is notice fully faster! 8 gigs is plenty of storage for me. I just download books. This was a great video! Very well done. I appreciate your time.
Agreed, except the price is now very close to the Paperwhite as well (in the US). Currently the price difference is just $10... Which makes the decision to go with the Paperwhite pretty easy. (Though with sales changing all the time, it always depends.)
youtubers often struggle to make vids longer like over 10mins due to ads (kinda?) which the actual content only worth 3 mins or sth Its really impressive that Ali speaks in ultra speed and the video still takes 13 mins long, loads of informative content :) true content creator
I got a Kindle Touch for my birthday in 2011. I've used it pretty much every day since and still going strong. I agree it's one of the best pieces of technology.
Kindle Paperwhite (not signature) is easily the best value proposition with all of the premium features one would actually use. The SE adds 3 features, all of which are comically unnecessary. Who thought increased storage and wireless charging were advantageous on a device that only needs charging once every few months, and which uses eBooks which struggle to fill even half of the standard edition with lower storage?
I'd like to know how you get a Kindle to last a few months on a charge. I have a regular Kindle and have to charge it about once every 4 days, which is frequent enough to leave me with some charging anxiety most of the time because I never know when it will die. I did have an old Kindle before the backlight and it did last a few weeks. I agree that the extra storage is useless unless you want to have many thousands of books downloaded at the same time or for some reason want to use the thing to play Audible which I can't imagine doing as your cellphone works more conveniently. I ordered the SE version partly because of the charging, but also the adjusting backlight, hopefully, in practice it works as well as my cellphone since I really use this feature on that device, and I don't use my regular Kindle in the dark because it is so bright.
@@robertvirnig638 Kindle Paperwhites have had incredible battery life for years. Even with heavy daily usage (several hours a day) I get at least 4 weeks. Is it possible that your previous Kindle just had a defective battery?
@@robertvirnig638 I have a kindle paper white. I have only charged mine two times since the beginning of January. I usually don’t use my brightness during the day if there is sunlight. At night I put my brightness up to 3 and the backlight brightness to a 7.

I liked how Ali briefly and at the same time comprehensively explains all that we need to know. I'm glad I chose the Kindle Signature Edition for my upgrade. My first Kindle was a PPW3. No regrets. 👍
I bought the new Kindle Paperwhite at the end of 2021 and I think it's great. The display is much larger compared to the old model and the battery lasts a really long time with my reading behavior. I also like that the new device has a USB-C port for charging.
It does get better than that... just read from a kindle. You can hold the kindle with one hand, you don't need a lamp to read at night, you can switch to dark-mode, you can hold it wih one hand, it's easy to change page and you can keep all your books in one device.
@@vidstige7516 plus, it's discreet, you can use it anywhere without people knowing what you're doing. You can travel with it, it reduces clutter/luggage by 100%. It makes reading much easier and more fun
Ali, you’re one of those people who inspire me to post my own youtube journey. I scaled to 6 figures in 2021! I was overthinking for so long but your videos really helped me to just get started, I’m never looking back!!! You deserve all the subs bro!! 💯

I personally vote for a kobo Clara, here in the UK. Here's why - it connects to overdrive/Libby, which gives access to borrow ebooks for free from my UK county library, directly to the e-reader over wifi. I saved so much money not buying every single book I want to read. Not every kobo model has the libby connection, nor does every public library give libby access, but for those models and libraries that support it, it is fantastic! Previously I used a Kindle Keyboard, which I loved for the side buttons. When that died, I went for a Kindle paperwhite but I found the bright white backlight jarring at nighttime and I also realised about the kobo-libby connection, so I sold it on and bought my kobo instead which has a warm white backlight. At the time of purchasing the kindle with a warm white backlight was so much more expensive. Also, I prefer not to use Amazon products, but that is my own choice.
I got the regular kindle for Christmas and I love it. The size and everything about it was perfect for me, except one thing. It is very hard to get dirt and dust out of the edges and I really hate that. But other than that, I love it!
I also got the regular kindle for Christmas, honestly it’s one of the best gifts I’ve received. I had been wanting to read more but don’t have space for new books, and physical copies also cost more, so the kindle has been amazing for me. With not having any distractions on the device, like notifications I’d get on my phone, I find I’m much more focused on the book I’m reading. I love my kindle!
Thanks, appreciated the TL;DR at the beginning. Made me appreciate that you won't waste time just for clickbait, and encouraged me to watch the entire video.
I have the Signature. It's my favorite Kindle I've ever had. Honestly, the reason I spent the extra $$ was for wireless charging. I have a Nomad Pro Mat in my bedroom so I just lay all my items on it whenever I need to charge. No worry about cables anymore.
If you’re on a budget I would really recommend getting a used kindle from ebay! The only reason I buy new tech is because with things like phones/laptop they tend to become slower and the battery capacity is worsened if you buy a used one. But you don’t notice this with a kindle because the battery lasts ages and it’s just a simple device in general. I bought a used kindle paperwhite 2018 last year for only £50 and it works perfectly. There are always plenty selling on eBay.
I searched eBay and honestly the old devices are just as expensive as the brand new ones unless you get a really old one but after shipping I might as well get the basic one new. All preference I guess 🤷♂️
@@calebwhite6173 really? The cheapest kindle you can get new is £70 but I see lots of previous generation paperwhites for £30-£50 whereas the current gen is £120 new. And I see lots of the current base kindle 2019 for as low as £25
I am a Kindle Paperwhite (2022) owner and it is definietly an upgade. I bought the 2018 version as well. Both worm light and a bigger screen in the 6.8’ version are a huge advantage. I love my Kindle.
Thanks for the great informative video. I’ve had the original kindle for years but not having a light was quite annoying. Over the years it has become somewhat slower, and randomly if I touched the side of the screen it would sometimes turn off. I’ve just ordered the new paperwhite. Not having to have the bedside lamp on will be a game changer 👍🏻
The only reason I want to update my kindle 4 to paperwhite is the light. The rest, I dont really mind. Latest kindle seems to still be slow and the only thing that makes it better than kindle 4 is that it is touch screen in my opinion.
Wow, I have no idea how this is the first video of yours that I've seen, but I can honestly say that this the BEST product review I've ever seen! Thank you so much for speaking so fast and just getting down to the straight up facts! Your personality is also great. Like many here, I agree that my Kindle is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. But it doesn’t just take the friction out of buying books-it also makes it really easy to borrow library books! If a book is available through my local library system, I can download it immediately. If all the copies are currently in use, I can put myself on the waitlist-and have it immediately download to my Kindle once my turn comes. And library books automatically return after the loan period is over-although you can send them back earlier if you want-so I never have to think about due dates or library hours ever again. Even better, my highlights are preserved if I re-borrow a book or decide to purchase my own copy. This has been a massive game changer for me, and I don’t think it gets talked about enough.
I completely agree! This is the main reason why I love my e-reader. I'm in the UK and when I looked into it, my local library did not interface with Amazon kindle ebook borrowing. Instead, my library offers ebooks via Libby/Overdrive. But - if you go for a Kobo Clara, which is similar to a paperwhite, then you can interface directly with that system. I really wish more people knew about this because it was a game changer for me too! I even sold my paperwhite to buy the kobo instead.
@@carolinestone4873 How frustrating that some libraries in the UK don’t offer this feature on Kindle-I didn’t realize that! I’m glad there are workarounds, though! And thanks for sharing your tip about the Kobo Clara.
I saw one video which I absolutely hated because 5 of the 10 min was an I to to kindles even though it was supposed to just educate viewers on which one was best for them. This dude nailed it. Detailed all the points on what was good and what was bad and even gave people their answer in the first minute. I still stayed to watch the whole thing and was glad.
Thanks a million. It has been one year already I wanted to buy Kindle with reasonable prices and reasonable quality. Your video has become very helpful.
Used to love my Kindle Paperwhite 3 before it got lost 😬 ended up getting a kindle oasis instead for the ergonomic design and honestly just for the novelty of owning a nicer device and no regrets, but I feel like for first time Kindle users a Paperwhite would be the most sensible choice
You had inspired me to buy a Kinle and I'm grateful because It totally changed my reading habit. Glad to see the update. I knew you were getting the new Kndle and the wireless charger!
I just bought a new Kindle Paperwhite because the batterie of my more than 6 years old Kindle Touch got quite weak. I'm not dissapointed by the new Paperwhite, but I also cannot really see a huge step forward. For normal books the higher resolution of the paperwhite display is not noticeable to me. The backlioght might be an advantage sometimes, my old Kindle touch did not have that. But since the normal Kindle nowadays also has backlight, thats no reason to spend more money for the Kindle Paperwhite. So the only advantage I see is that the Paperwhite is water resistant. I usually dont read in the rain or under the shower, but maybe it some day might come handy in the bath tub or in holidays at the pool. What I dont like too much about the new Paperwhite is the flat front. My old Kindle Touch has a has a protruding edge. This way you can easily feel where to hold it without touching the display and accidently changing pages. Another advantage is that the display doesnt get scratched when laying it on the display side.
My wife was an early Kindle adopter, back in the days when it had a keyboard and text-to-speech with a built-in speaker and admittedly rather robotic pronunciation. I made fun of her for months, saying what was wrong with "real" books, why do you have to be such a techno-geek and all. Then one day when she wasn't home I picked up her Kindle for the first and pressed a few buttons... It was a life-changing experience. Before she had returned to the house I had already placed my order with Amazon for a Kindle of my own. When people ask me "Is a Kindle is as good as a paper book?", I tell them it absolutely is *not!* It is enormously better by any measurable standard.
Still rocking my Kindle Voyage. The thing is an absolute tank. I’ve noticed some battery degradation for sure, but I don’t think it’ll be too hard to replace the battery when it gets to that point.
The fact that you went ahead and gave us the answer with in the first minute but most of us stayed and watched the whole video, is insane. Anyways thank you, now I know what to get.
I was literally thinking about updating my old Kindle, so this is comes at an awesome time. I had been procrastinating on doing my research to find the right one. Thanks, Ali.
I went with the signature because of the 32gbs storage, I’m planning to use this for myself and my kids, the larger screen and memory would really help, really appreciate the great review
I am a student who got a scolarship of ₹6000(76$). As an Indian, their is no need of waterproofing, and also their are some devices in our household with microusb charger, so I am going with the basic one. Thank you for this amazing video Ali!
Recently bought the new Kindle Paperwhite as an upgrade to the previous generation Paperwhite. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade, it's much faster and the night light is essential imo. But the best thing is the bigger screen, which is now much closer to the size of a real book page. This makes it way more immersive than the smaller screens
I liked the video especially for the exec summary and conclusion at the beginning of it. I watched it all, but this is really good to see mate. Be an example! Thanks!

Agreed. No rubber back, easy to hold one-handed on the train, great warm backlight, perfect weight balance. If you read a lot, I think the price is still justified.
I was in the market for a kindle, mainly for the highlighting option and linking to readwise! Found this recent video from Ali, from that purchased the Paperwhite Signature Edition! Hoping to stick to reading more consistently now!
The abstract at the very first made me subscribe to this channel. Thanks. Note, was intrigued and watched the full video till signature since oasis is out of my budget range :p
Highliting works well enough, but taking notes on the kindle is a ghastly experience. I have no idea how people actually do it, very crappy experience. The lack of syncing for notes and highlights with “documents”, that is, books that you acquire from outside of amazon, is a glaring and appalling omission. Still excellent gadgets, but these faults make a serious difference for workflow
I got the original Oasis because it has buttons, is super lightweight, I like the grip design, and had bluetooth before the others. I do wish they had infinite scroll on the kindles because I love it on the app. Nice to have the eink for long reading though.
Just bought a kindle paper white! Very excited about the upgrade (I have a really old kindle). While waiting for my kindle, I read The Love Hypothesis on my iPad. Sure, it was nice, but... not particularly nice? very heavy to read haha.
Thanks! I was looking into buying one because I am going to be traveling overseas for an extended period of time and still wanted to be able to read without overpacking multiple books. :)
Another great video Ali. I have started reading at night after years of not reading at all. All thanks to your previous videos. I’m now tempted to get a kindle. Have the original one but fell out of love with it. Love your video style and quality. Keep up the great work, we deserved success over the past few years. The prices have changed.
I have been debating between the Signature and the Oasis. Do you find the Oasis to be too slippery to use without a case?
@@laurab5013 You can put a pop socket on it. It works like charm! I prefer the oasis for the buttons and the light is better, oh and it´s made of aluminium
@@sarahlancheros Thank you! Good points.
@@sarahlancheros pop socket doesn't work as well on the oasis because of the bump but on the regular kinde or even the signature it works great!
I own Kindle Oasis and I have pretty big hands and I love using it.
@@aaronryder4008 I use mine on the big part of the oasis, behind the buttons and I love it ! I´m glad the signature works for you :)
i like that you get to the point quick , made me really want to watch the rest of the video , for your reasons got a thumbs up
I like the way he gave you what you wanted in the beginning of the video provided you with the upfront conclusion to save you time and still peaked your interest by keeping them short and simple yet still offers to go in depth throughout the video.
This is also my first ever Kindle and I hope this slight burn in wallet will encourage me to read more to make my purchase worth it haha
Thanks for the awesome content! Can’t wait to get back to reading again!

Hey! After 2 months, how do you feel about the purchase?
@@slimxshady6111 No regrets! Absolutely love it! Finished 3 books on it :)
What about the warm light? Do you use it a lot? Do you use warm light even with dark mode?
The game changer with the oasis is you can put a pop socket or one of those phone strap thingies on the back of the button part and it is sooooooo much nicer to hold. When I had the regular paperwhite, I was constantly dropping it. The oasis was so worth it for me personally
u can do that with a normal kindle...
Check out Strapsicle total game changer for me for all Kindles; I personally have the 2021 PW

Was gonna order it somewhere else, but just because of the enormous positive impact Ali has on my life I bought it through the affiliate link straight away! Thanks Ali for making us all better humans!! 🙏
Concise, precise, to the point. Liked the way you summed it up in the beginning, the reason I had to watch it till the end. Brilliant.
Mad respect for giving us the TL;DR right up front! I still stuck around for the whole video, which was great.
The newly launched Basic Kindle (2022) has 300 PPI and Type-C, so should be good enough for most people
Agreed, except the price is now very close to the Paperwhite as well (in the US). Currently the price difference is just $10... Which makes the decision to go with the Paperwhite pretty easy. (Though with sales changing all the time, it always depends.)
I swapped my paperwhite for the oasis and love it! Easier to hold with one hand, enjoy the buttons too.
youtubers often struggle to make vids longer like over 10mins due to ads (kinda?) which the actual content only worth 3 mins or sth
Its really impressive that Ali speaks in ultra speed and the video still takes 13 mins long, loads of informative content :) true content creator
For those who own the basic version, You can get dark mode but you have to manually edit each book and invert the colors in a program called Calibre

Oh damn thanks! gonna try this now!
@@robertvirnig638 Paperwhite model has 35 hours of battery, if you got that one it should last you more than 4 days, assuming of course you don’t read for like 11 hours everyday.
I don’t think there’s anything better than a tangible book but I do love the paperwhite kindle ☺️
It does get better than that... just read from a kindle. You can hold the kindle with one hand, you don't need a lamp to read at night, you can switch to dark-mode, you can hold it wih one hand, it's easy to change page and you can keep all your books in one device.

LOVE the conclusion at the beginning!! I still watched the rest, but awesome upfront approach!
May I ask what made you go Clara over Kindle?
I subscribed as soon as you were gracious enough to get to the point in one minute. It made me want to watch the whole video

I appreciate how quickly you gave us a run down, in the beginning and not the end. Liked, and subscribed. 😄
I have the same kindle, yes the dirt is anoying me to
@@andrea-kc5fr you have 4 GB or 8gb after the upgrade
Thanks, appreciated the TL;DR at the beginning. Made me appreciate that you won't waste time just for clickbait, and encouraged me to watch the entire video.
I have the Signature. It's my favorite Kindle I've ever had. Honestly, the reason I spent the extra $$ was for wireless charging. I have a Nomad Pro Mat in my bedroom so I just lay all my items on it whenever I need to charge. No worry about cables anymore.
I like the fact that you started spending a lot of effects and time in your recent videos which keeps us highly entertained and fun...
And I see lots of the current base kindle 2019 for as low as £25
This man understands how your supposed to script a video, hats off to you!
I actually really enjoy my kindle oasis, I like the physical buttons and extra grip, would get the upgraded version if/when it comes out.
I agree. I chose the Oasis even though it was more expensive BECAUSE of the buttons and extra grip.
I agree, the only reason I haven’t bought yet is cos I’m waiting on their upgrade which 🤞🏽 will be coming.
@@soolee8747yeah it’s annoying as hell that not all libraries use Libby, my choice of library which has amazing selection uses CloudLibrary 😮

I bought a kindle a few years ago. Now seeing that Kindle Paperwhite is waterproof blew my mind! I've always wanted that.
I got the original Oasis because it has buttons, is super lightweight, I like the grip design, and had bluetooth before the others. I do wish they had infinite scroll on the kindles because I love it on the app. Nice to have the eink for long reading though.
