Just watched this movie for the first time the other night on Netflix and I’m 26. Can’t believe it’s the first I’m seeing but this movie was absolutely hilarious. Movies like this will never be made again.
I'm watching it RIGHT NOW Bob! I was born in this era btw and yea movies like this were SOLID freakin' GOOD! You just have to keep searching in the past for the GEMS!
It’s an absolute staple. Nothing comes close to this quality. Nancy dowd was brilliant. It really captures the era too. Steel mills were shutting down. Money drying up. Small rural towns gradually became ghost towns as people went back to the big cities.
Strother Martin played the vile prison Warden in the film COOL HAND LUKE with Paul Newman. He certainly had some varied roles in his film career. I wonder if Paul suggested him for his spineless role in SLAP SHOT?
George Roy Hill put Elton John's Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word in the movie that was perfectly timed to convey the loneliness and struggle of minor league life for both the players and their wives.
@@waynejohanson1083 You are correct sir! And I know it isn't necessarily a hockey movie, but running scared with Paul walker, the hockey rink scene.. ...Idk I just randomly thought of that...
@@seraffimospang9239 That’s a great scene, those pucks looked like they hurt like hell when Walker’s getting tortured. _Running Scared_ is a hardcore action classic too. Only other scene that comes close to that in terms of hockey brutality (aside from _Slap Shot_ in general of course) is in _Goon_ when Seann William Scott uses his face to stop a goal and gets slammed with a puck right in the cheek in slow motion.
The way the Hansen’s skate at their targets with this blank stare gets me every time. Like imagine you watch these guy triple team your buddy in the corner then they turn and start power skating at you with that face😂😂😂😂
Man, good job on the video.! The best part of this movie, is when the Hansen's show up at their hotel... And dump toys out of their suitcases.. lol iconic

Newman said he loved making this movie and playing the part. He got so into the character that a month after filming he was apparently still walk-in round the house dropping f bomb language like Reg Dunlop until his wife Joanne told him to cool it (he didn’t even know he was doing it he liked it so much).
The guy who played Screaming Buffalo was a real hockey player that had been retired for some time and when he went in to the boards when he brought Johnny down and he hit his ass, he went back to the hotel and was icing his groin down and pounding beers.
Great marketing move of Sonny James. Now it's his type of music sounds like my type of music. Got to check out the whole album. Signing off, Slayer Nation, Talking Heads Nation, Pink Floyd Nation, Radiohead Nation, Beatles Nation guy

The Movie is 46 years old!
I'm From Broome County NY. Where parts of slapshot was filmed along with Jamestown Pa, Syracuse and Utica NY
history is long and often loops back on itself. the day may come when movies like this are made again
The boys and I would like you to have this as a memento - it's a Chiefs key ring, can't buy these in stores.
Ladies and gentlemen look at that!

"I tried to capture the spirit of the thing".

Just as Dickie Dunn would be wont to do in his coverage of the Chiefs in the Charlestown Times-Herald, I believe.
