My dad loved the Centurion, he wasn't to keen on its replacement, the Chieftain, mind you he did his driver training in a Sherman. He also served in Aden, and the Suez crisis. 1st Royal tank regiment 1953 to 1977. Sadly lost him in 2005.

      My condolences.
My uncle served in Aden, SBS. My dad was in the 7th Hussars, Centurion driver, then commander then TA instructor. He did training in, iirc, Fireflies, Churchills etc too. I think they still used Dingos and Bren Gun Carriers as well. Back then one knew who the enemy was! Unlike nowadays.

I'm really sorry to hear that your father passed away but also my father died too 5 years ago so it would be nice that could be in good company up there. My Italian father was a good story teller regarding history and he was involved with the Italian army and spoke good English. Yep, I miss my father too, both had an interesting life. Hope I didn't bore you...

@Michael Pearce hello, nice to hear that you have been living in Grumolo delle Abadesse years ago. I don't remember this town but I have been many times around that area including Asiago, I had a pretty girlfriend there, and I loved Padua as well. Actually I live 30 km from Florence, not a bad place surrounded by lovely hills full of vineyards! You should come back someday in Italy and see your friends and enjoy trekking and eating at some trattoria drinking some wine. Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹 👍

Awesome MBT, even in GW1 it served as a bunker buster, sand didn't affect it whilst Abrams ground to a halt (due to sand ingress)! My dad was a Centurion driver then commander and TA instructor.
The Isrealis used them to good effect, iirc, in The Valley of Tears (Yom Kippur War). Their 7th Armoured Brigade - funnily enough my dad served in what was 7th Armoured (Desert Rats) when it had been rolled into the 7th Hussars in the 1950s.

A CenturionTank was tested in outback South Australia using an atomic bomb at Maralinga and it withstood the blast , only the paintwork was blasted off, the internals were like brand new. The engine only stopped after it ran out of fuel. Later the same tank served in Vietnam with the Australian army.

There are sources to get the 1/16 L7 gun for conversion as we do it for the T-55 to tiran. Can't post the links for it here, I can send you the link to get one via other means. We are designing and 3d printing the addon ERA via resin printing.

The Centurion mbt was in British service for 3 decades. quite a few were deployed to trouble spots around the Empire and were finished in desert camouflage. several deployed to Kuwait when Iraq first started sabre-rattling in 1960 ( at a time UK was withdrawing from Gulf colonies. ) .. Australians used Cent's in Vietnam also. being 1/16 scale there's prob not that many parts or modification kits around so somewhat limited unless scratch-building parts. The Korean War versions look pretty good though. with a bit of weathering etc, the overall green would look fine.

Nice Tank Andy, I have one inbound to build on my channel and will be sticking with the original British paint job, as for the IDF Sho't they did for a short while use stock Mk III's but quickly upgraded them in both main gun and drive train, so in theory if you did an IDF tank it would not be a Sho't but just an IDF Centurion MK III from the late 60's. good luck with the build!!

Much of the plastic is ABS, not polystyrene, so it isn't directly comparable to a display kit in the same scale (ABS usually has some quantity of fiber in it, making it stronger, but also more difficult to push into very small crevices in the mold. That's why it's used on a lot of auto interior trim). I can see why they made the compromises they did.
ETA: This was only meant to offer a different perspective and possible explanation. I wasn't trying to be argumentative.

@@paulfrantizek102 Agreed. Every kit is a balance of engineering & economic compromises. These days though there's a lot less expectation upon the modeller to improv', which is either a good or bad thing, depending on one's perspective.

@@paulfrantizek102 so ABS can not be moulded to a high degree? Course it can, like the original comment said detail is Missing at this scale, it's toy like, that's why modellers go with 35th and many many don't add extra detail.

Great video! Depending on what you want to do with it, it would be the easiest to upgrade into a Sho't (meteor) as it basically is the same version of tank. However they were fitted with 50.cals and a mesh stowage bin on the back of the turret. The afv club shot kal (1967) can be used as inspiration 😁

Im holding out for Tamiya to replace their old West German Leopard A4, with either an Australian AS1 a Canadian C1 or a Dutch Leopard 1, and given the full option treatment as well.

Has to be the British version you do. BTW I assume you have to buy a radio control box (the thing with the control levers etc lol) separate to this kit?

@tacfoley Oh well, its not for me then, far too expensive. I prefer normal static models at 1/16 scale. I am building the 1/16 Das Werk Stug III at the moment. That was only £105, far cheaper lol.

@tacfoley Cheapest I a have seen in UK is £1085 from Jadlam Models. Plus you have to buy a transmitter too if you don't have one.
