How about a carry where no individual item is over $50. That way your not restricted by an overall price. And it's a little more realistic. It's easier to build a EDC up $50 at a time.
trevor francis Agreed! That is how most people gather their EDC, one piece at a time.
Seconded
This is actually a really great idea. I dig it.
I third this idea!!
Trevor Francis:
•Best Damn Idea/Best Damn EDC
Missing a prybar? What about a Gerber Shard or Swiss Tech 6 or 9-in-1 to fill in, very inexpensive, but come in handy. Less than $6 each. The Shard works better than my small Griffin. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
True! I didn’t like the Shard at first, but I managed to get it on my orbit key and it’s really grown on me as a pry tool!
I recommend and edc a shard as well
I would say a $200-250 challenge for the next one.
you could carry a gerber/leatherman multitool as your knife and retain a lot of the tools youre missing out on in these budget carries
I will say that for some of us $100 is your “real” everyday carry. There is some really cool stuff out there, but not in our budget. I have had to gear down or make some of my own stuff. You could buy a piece of metal stock and build or make your own pry bar.
DOOHICKEY KEY TOOL
By NITE IZE was all you needed for around $4.00
I agree with you
Jeremy Siers told me to check your channel out. Glad he did great job very well done!
These Timex Expedition watches are now $44, they have gone up in price, Thanks and Cheers!
Jon
That’s the standard pricing. It just so happened to be on sale when I shot this, which is why I tried so hard to include it.
I had that watch and I freaking loved it. Unfortunately, after about a year and a half, it started losing about 5 minutes a month. I tried changing batteries but it didn't help. Undoubtedly, I got a lemon because I dont think I've seen anyone else complain about that
get a gerber shard and put it on your keys, it’s a little flat head pry tool with a bottle opener
The parker pen might be sticking due to the front hole is not thru. I got the same issue after i dropped my pen. But after fixing the hole it clicked fine. Best is to just use the refill and insert it from the front and wiggle it abit. Really like to see how you mod the parker.
Speaking of cheap & good, I found the horseshoe clamp you mentioned for keys at HD for @ $9, but then I found these (see pic) rectangular spring-lock 'rings' 2 for @ $3. Working pretty well so far!
My current EDC is a cutjack, duct tape wallet, cheap watch with a custom Paracord band, and a phone. I can guarantee your $100 stuff is a lot better of an EDC than mine. I am about to update with my new elementum, leather wallet, and soon to be some flashlight that is undecided. Still will probably be under $100 though.
Streamlight or olight . I have carried streamlight since 2016.
@@aaronmcclain1279 I went with Rovyvon, it's really good.
When beginning the challenges take with you a micro notes Poka pens, and write down every time you find you are short a tool. One off's could be combined, multiple incidents evokes the need of a tool. A good Gerber shard does all you need for prying... Should
I think you should redo $100 challenge with adding pry bar to the list of items. Plenty of cheap simple pry tools on Amazon. No need to carry it for longer then a week.
I think you could have thrown a shard in there somewhere and had your pry bar. Its totally underrated.
Dollar Store One Day Carry Challenge. Im not sure if its doable, but what do you have to lose?
I have a very similar watch (to avoid messing up my dressy looking eco drive at work) and it’s so much louder than the ecodrive
You dont ever need a tool to open a beer bottle, just an edge and your palm with the old college smack
Can we get a review of that citizen?
Hey, I wear the Citizen Chronograph too! I have it on a classic Twist-o-flex band, which reminds me of the 1960s NASA astronauts when they were Earth-bound
Maybe you should do the same challenges but with the things you need in your normal day, or trying to get them for under 50 or 100 dollars. that would be interesting to see.
I am loving my Outdoor Edge utility knife multi tool, only $11
If you need a cheap prybar, include the Gerber shard in your challenge.
You could always add something like s doohickey or shard. Or as you said a cadet.
Think about the Kershaw Clash Serrated (1605ST) knife. It is under $30 normally on Amazon. Been my EDC knife for a year now and I am really impressed with it. Also, do you really need a prybar in your pocket. Maybe just keep access to it in a car or camera case.
Everything is gunmetal now... so you've done some personalization. Nice!👍
I giggled about the early look at the watch's light up.
Can You share a bit more how to customize the pen?? I would like to do it in the home conditions, but I've neved done it and I have no idea what and how...
Thx in advance :)
Nice flex at the beginning showing us the most expensive edc.
What pry tool is that?? Looks really nice!
In my mind the answer is simple. Keep tools for work gear with work gear. You are not every day carrying your cameras, etc. Have drivers or pry bars with your gear for a few weeks.
I rarely go anywhere without my work bag and cameras.
@@BestDamnEDC but they are not considered your personal edc...a pry bar in your gear is for work and will not be on your person at all times. That is totally fair. Lots of guys and gals head to work with edc, but arrive at a job site and use tools specific to their work. You would be logically able to do the same.
Shoulda picked up a cheap kershaw or gerber pry just to get you through 😂
A sharp knife is a safer knife to use. How about a few lessons on how to keep blades sharp (or does everyone else just buy a new knife when they want a sharp blade)?🤪
You should do a $200 EDC.
if you can fit 10 in your 100, the gerber shard is not bad.
How does the knife he has here compare to an Ontario Rat-2
Maybe just your carry with budget items for the next one? Don’t sacrifice essential gear for these challenges, I get anxiety just from leaving even my usual backup items. (Is that weird?)
dude, what did you do to that gear, especially the pen to make it look like that? I wanna do that to all my stainless carry
I know it's an old vid so he probably won't answer, if anyone knows I would be grateful
cheers, subbed for moths now
I saw flashes of TICK TICK TICK near the end.
Just doping by to warn about you lens/sensor at 4:40 you can se é some sort of particle on the screen
Awssome vídeo btw
Your edc is what you need to carry for you thats all. If you need a pry bar carry a pry bar bro.
God. I love this channel 💪🏻
Gerber shard
Can you do a vid on pry tools/ pocket multitools?
Still want my stickers brah! I bought from carry commission and you said you would send out some!
Any second thoughts on the cadet as an option?
I have a truck flashlight but with a phone light i dont need or have an edc light.
Bro.. you can open a bottle with practically anything. It blows my mind that bottle openers are a thing.
I wish i could find a light like the olight s1 with out the magnet
Victorinox spartan or tinker. Budget edc champions.
Ruub I love the Tinker “Small”. Great size/utility ratio.
@@chriscon8463 it sure is a pocket and budget friendly usefull edc item
should have gotten a gerber shard
what are your thoughs on the booker plus wild cat?
I'm tryna get that bigideadesigns 3 in 1 ti pen that switches from ball point to roller to fountain pen 😍😍but its like 200 dollars
Great video. Hello from Durham. Can you link to where you found the G2 type refills for the Parker Jotter? Thanks.
I bought some from Big Idea Design. But they are on Amazon. amzn.to/2KQG3Kx
@@BestDamnEDC Cool, thank you!
get a cheap pry bar if you need it!
Did you mod your pen in this carry?
How about we trade! I hate black ink, wish more pens came standard with blue. I have a pile of Fisher space pen inserts that they came with because I wanted blue.
You could of carried a pry bar for free, just put a bevel on a piece of scrap steel. I always have spare off cuts of spring steel lying around from making knives. I can sell you spring steel hand made pry bars for $10+
Did I hear you say 150 bucks for a utility knife? WOW
If you get a chance check out the Travelambo wallet on Amazon, I bought one a few months back an totally love this wallet. If I remember correctly it was like $11.00 bucks. Love it
I would have thought that a Swiss Army knife wood be a no-brainer..... I guess it would be to me
Oh, I thought about it. But I don't like carrying one without an organizer of some sort. I HATE a SAK floating around in my pocket.
Why not put a Classic SD on your key ring? The file would make a light-duty prybar.
I keep a “Manager” on my key ring. It’s just a little thicker than a “Classic”, but also adds a Phillips screwdriver, bottle opener, & pen. Great utility!
Those watch names are a killer...lol
What that? You’re going to have a giveaway for this $100 EDC?
A Gerber artifact is a cheap pry bar
If your on a budget... Flashlight and watch is on your phone. You don’t need a belt clip key chain.
Wallet: $10 Leather/elastic/whatever
Knife: $40 leatherman Free T2 (which has more tools, and will last a lifetime)
Pen: $15 fisher space pen (refillable, lasts a long time)
$35 left over.
I’m sorry I’m a big baby when it comes to the dark. So the most expensive thing I’ll pay for is probably the lighting situation.
well tbh if you dont get all of your crucial carry items within the budget than you are not being true to the challenge. Plenty of $5-$10 prybars you could have used
$7 Gerber Mullet would have solved your problem
Name this knife!!!!!🙏
If you carry a coin you got a pry tool to unscrew a camera.
I’d like my name back Taylor.
For good budget pry tools made in the USA check out Rogan tools USA.
2:29
Can't you just use a coin to remove the tripod plate?
I never have cash or change on me.
@@BestDamnEDC ah but what if you looked at it a different way? If you had any budget leftover you could have added a nickel or a quarter as one of your edc items and used it exclusively for your tripod
Let me rephrase. I HATE carrying change.
Hey.. Mind if I join y'all?
Next is $ 200
Agreed....blue ink is shit
I dont know why you would want to carry so many expensive items. To me thats making you a bit of a target and is really going to hurt if you lose any of them.
Let’s be real, Nobody is using a flashlight 🔦
Makes you wonder how the human race evolved without all this invaluable 'personal carry'...
I like your videos for the most part but it drives me crazy that you don’t get to the point I grind my teeth just so I can get through the video sorry had to vent
This is going to get a little weird... takes off belt 😂😂😂
Google algorithm probably demonetized his video.
Pry tool...kershuffle
Flat head...kershuffle
Bottle opener...kershuffle
Hotel...trivago
That steel tho...
I think it’s more of the knife scraping your hand as you try to reach past it. You could carry it in pocket to get past that. But I like a carrying my knife clipped to my pocket. Cheaper steels are super east y to put an edge on and a lot of people don’t use there knife that often for it to make it a big deal.
Can you do an episode on good EDC gear/carry strategies for folks who work having to wear more professional dress (ie slacks, leather belt, etc) because there's a significantly different experience when it comes to the way it looks on the body and the organization with the goal of a more professional/office appearance.
I would say you can still keep within the budget but have gear you need, like a cheaper pry tool. It doesn’t make sense to carry gear to fit someone else’s day even if it’s within budget or fits a snappy acronym.
I would suggest this for budget pry tool I find myself using it at many times and cost 3.70
The DoohiKey by Nite Ize
?
@@cinos78579 Doohicky is the name of the prybar. Though I am not positive that's how it's spelled. Its made by Nite Ize. Not a bad little prybar honestly. The Gerber Shard is thicker tho, seems more durable.
I break up EDC into three categories of gear--
First Line Gear: What's in your pocket?
Second Line Gear: Goes in an EDC Bag, be it a sling pack, backpack, laptop case, brief case, man purse or what have you.
Third Line Gear: What goes in your trunk. Mechanics tools, air compressor, first aid kits, road side emergency kits, etc...
The tools that you need such as a prybar, that aren't part of what you're replacing in these challenges, I'd say to move them to second line gear... Plus, it gives you an excuse to do a video on EDC bags. Lol.
B-roll sequence in the begging was on point! Some sweeet transitions in there. 👍🏻
Thanks dude! I can't take the credit for that. Haha
Sorry, I can't find a way to post a pic...
I love this series. It shows what you can get on a budget and what not to get! Keep up the good work. Maybe do a video for the best $50 knife, flash light wallet, prybar etc.... split them up and see what combo you can come up with after you let the best I. Each category for $50 or under and then carry that edc for a week
I love your videos man, and I know you mentioned this in a past video that your going to continue doing it but I just wanted to throw it out there that ... I feel like there is WAY too much story time and not enough focus on the gear sometimes.
Bought my first Spyderco today, found a resilience at Walmart for $25!! Been spidy flicking all day
How tf
Bought my first ZT Hinderer s35vn blade, G10 scales. :p
Its seams crazy to have over about a thousand dollars in pocket items.. Thats not including the phone or a gun
wow. in poland this edc is ~135$ not a good deal
Co to był za nóż?
I get it man. I love my current setup and wouldn't trade it for anything. But what if that is all people can afford?
I got a nitecore tip 2017 version in green aluminum to match my 940
In regards to your worry about the stuff you were "missing" in your EDC that you carried for a few days for a shoot (or whatever the situation):
Don't forget what EDC stands for.
If you choose to carry a few extra items one day because of your plans/circumstances on that day, it doesn't effect your edc because, by definition, those items are things you carry with you every day.
Items you carry occasionally, when needed, aren't necessarily EDC.
All that to say, don't worry about it. 😂 You didn't break any "rules" and the experiment is still valid and truthful.
I love the the budget builds!!
The ZAK tool has been a part of my EDC since your initial video. Absolutely love it. Similar set up to yours but my car keys are on a magnetic qd from the main loop.
Same here. I picked one up after the original video. I've carried my keys on a carabiner for years, the zak is a much better solution, even with a leather belt. I did notice the same problem he mentioned with it roughing up my belt, but that was a quick fix, just wrapped the section that contacts the belt with some electrical tape.
Eric Lee I had been unable to find a key solution that I liked so they were just in my pocket until recently. Was never a fan of carabiners or dangler loops or the HK style clips. I haven’t seen an easier way to get to my keys with my hands full or groceries than the ZAK tool.
Good idea, make the gear work for you. I haven’t had that issue because both my belts are thick nylon gun belts.
You sort of recommended the Timex watch some time ago. And since I didn't have a watch in my EDC back then, I looked around and got stuck with an all black 40 mm Expedition Scout. Paid about what you did and just got a black metal wrist band on it, can't beat it. Love the lighting it has. And with my two kids, I hardly ever have a dead silent room, so I never hear it ticking anyway. Best EDC purchase I made for a long time!
