@peterpetersbng Thanks for your comments. I agree that the Q20 with Charlie Hall's EFTP patches gives an excellent sound, but I think the TVS3 has the edge. I actually messed up the sound of the TVS3 on this video by using the compressor incorrectly, but I'll do better on my next version. Thanks again and all the best for the New Year! Cheers, James
Hi Dave, Thanks for taking the time to watch my video. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I took a look at your site and I have to say that I really enjoyed both your instrumentals and vocals. Very nice indeed! Best regards, James
Hello James, Great performance of a lovely classic from The Shadows ,you have some very nice stuf in your home studio. Well done my friend. Regards, Arie
Hi Bob, Thanks for watching and posting your encouraging comments. You own fingers appear to work very well on the fretboard. Keep up the great work! Best regards, James
Hi Gary, Thanks for stopping by to check out my video. Yes, I love playing the music of The Shadows and I'm glad you enjoyed listening. All the best, James
Hello James, great playing my friend!! a very happy enjoyable performance! i can see that you enjoy playing music by the Shadows!!. All The Best to you, Gary.
Hi Stewart, Thanks for your kind words! Atlantis one of my favourites too, although I probably say that about a lot of these lovely old Shadows numbers. Cheers, James

Hi Stewart, Yes, this tune is one of my favourites too and I'm glad you enjoyed my rendition. I know you already checked out my rendition of Theme for Young Lovers. Thanks for your great comments! Cheers, James
Thank you for the informations. Here in Brazil it is very expensive and I can not afford it. I appreciate your executions. You're an excellent guitarist. Hug.

Well played! My favourite Shadows' tune of all time. I remember my frustration that it didn't get to #1 in the charts in 1963. I think Frank Ifield kept it off the top spot.
Hi Brian, Thanks for your kind comments. This is one of my older videos, but I'm glad you liked it. Yes, it's a shame that Atlantis didn't make the #1 spot. However, according to Wikipedia, the tune stayed in the charts for 17 weeks, which is no mean feat in itself. Thanks again! Cheers, James

Albert Forest Bonjour Albert, Merci pour vos aimables commentaires. Je me suis connecté directement à la guitare le compresseur et ensuite dans l'écho et l'amplificateur. Salutations amicales, James
Dear James came across your interpretation of Atlantis I have worked out almost all of the tune after many many hours oh joy but worth it in the end only thing is can you help me with the last section at the end where Hank plays it appears to be sort of chords and then finnishes on the high notes as I cannot work this part out. Regards Paul.
Hi Paul, Thanks for your kind comments. This is one of my older videos and I have not played the tune for a while. I'll have to revisit it and see how I played the outro section. Regards, James
Hi James Another good cover. Concerning the sound of this one the use of compression tends to generate a small 'cloc' at the beginning of each note, depending on attack time. This is particularly sensible on medium notes and does not happen in the original, probably because of the different compression systems they where using. You can easily eliminate these peaks/clocs by adding a limiter after the compressor. Moreover it will allow you to put a bit more compression, which could help at increasing the sustain further. PS: You were not using 'strong' equalization in 2011 ?
Hi Christian, Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and to post your comments. Those hints will be useful when I redo Atlantis. At the time I made this video, I knew very little about compression, equalization and other aspects of sound production. The sound was very much improved on my next videos, Peace Pipe & Wonderful Land, as I learned more about processing and effects. Best regards, James
I fully agree James. I noticed some improvements in your recent videos (which in no way means that previous ones where bad !). However, if you look at mine, you will notice the same thing, which is normal. I restarted playing guitar only a few years ago, after 40 years of total inaction. And when I listen to what I was producing 3 or 4 years ago, I am horrified! This Shadows sound quest requires years of work before obtaining decent results. I am very happy to have discovered your channel and to see that one can approach That Sound with different equipment/technics. My own system is 100% based on software (real time VST plugins in a laptop) when yours is seemingly hardware based. Cheers - Christian
bonsoir james, j'aimerai que vous m'interprétiez "bilitis" que je compare votre "son" au mien ,s'il fait parti de votre répertoire bien sur. merci et bonne soirée amitiés albert
Hi Bob, Thanks for the great comments and interesting question. Personally, I have settled on using D'Addario EXL115W strings (11-49 with a wound 3rd). The question of what strings Hank used in the early days has been the subject of much debate. I am led to believe that Stratocasters of that era came equipped with heavy gauge round wound strings (like 12-52) and Hank probably used what was already on the guitar at the time it was shipped to the UK. For more info, you could check out the following resources: Here is an excellent and well-researched video by Paul Rossiter of TV Specialty Products: ruclips.net/video/eS9S6R2bOkc/видео.html A great discussion on this topic can be found on Charlie Hall's forum: charliehall.proboards.com/thread/13900/flat-tape-wound-strings
@@GoldenStreetMusic Hi James. Just picked this up. Am I correct in saying that Joe Brown was the first guitarist in this country to remove the third wound string and put a steel one in place so he could bend the note. A tip he got from Eddie Cochran (My main man.) That's what Joe said in interviews I have seen. Hope you are keeping well my friend take care in the rat race out there.
@@old65rocker Hello Mike! Thanks for the question. I read the same thing in Andy Babiuk's book "Beatles Gear", namely that Joe Brown got the tip from Eddie Cochran, who used a plain second string in place of the third string so that he could bend it more effectively. There are less expensive options than the TVS3 but you can find more info on the TVS website at tvsspecialtyproducts.com. Hope this info helps. Cheers, James
